| ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਲਾਏ ਸੋਈ ਬੂਝੈ ਭਉ ਭਰਮੁ ਸਰੀਰਹੁ ਜਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੭॥ |
| jis no laaeae soee boojhai bho bharam sareerahu jaaee hae ||7|| |
| He alone understands, whom the Lord joins with Himself. Fear and doubt are taken away from his body. ||7|| |

| ਆਪੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਆਪੇ ਦੇਵੈ ॥ |
| aapae guramukh aapae dhaevai || |
| He Himself is the Gurmukh, and He Himself bestows His blessings. |
 |
| ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੈ ॥ |
| sachai sabadh sathigur saevai || |
| Through the True Word of the Shabad, serve the True Guru. |
 |
| ਜਰਾ ਜਮੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਜੋਹਿ ਨ ਸਾਕੈ ਸਾਚੇ ਸਿਉ ਬਣਿ ਆਈ ਹੇ ॥੮॥ |
| jaraa jam this johi n saakai saachae sio ban aaee hae ||8|| |
| Old age and death cannot even touch one who is in harmony with the True Lord. ||8|| |

| ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਅਗਨਿ ਜਲੈ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥ |
| thrisanaa agan jalai sansaaraa || |
| The world is burning up in the fire of desire. |
 |
| ਜਲਿ ਜਲਿ ਖਪੈ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਵਿਕਾਰਾ ॥ |
| jal jal khapai bahuth vikaaraa || |
| It burns and burns, and is destroyed in all its corruption. |
 |
| ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਠਉਰ ਨ ਪਾਏ ਕਬਹੂ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬੂਝ ਬੁਝਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੯॥ |
| manamukh thour n paaeae kabehoo sathigur boojh bujhaaee hae ||9|| |
| The self-willed manmukh finds no place of rest anywhere. The True Guru has imparted this understanding. ||9|| |

| ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਨਿ ਸੇ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ॥ |
| sathigur saevan sae vaddabhaagee || |
| Those who serve the True Guru are very fortunate. |
 |
| ਸਾਚੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਦਾ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੀ ॥ |
| saachai naam sadhaa liv laagee || |
| They remain lovingly focused on the True Name forever. |
 |
| ਅੰਤਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਵਿਆ ਨਿਹਕੇਵਲੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਸਬਦਿ ਬੁਝਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੦॥ |
| anthar naam raviaa nihakaeval thrisanaa sabadh bujhaaee hae ||10|| |
| The Immaculate Naam, the Name of the Lord, permeates the nucleus of their inner being; through the Shabad, their desires are quenched. ||10|| |

| ਸਚਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਸਚੀ ਹੈ ਬਾਣੀ ॥ |
| sachaa sabadh sachee hai baanee || |
| True is the Word of the Shabad, and True is the Bani of His Word. |

| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਿਰਲੈ ਕਿਨੈ ਪਛਾਣੀ ॥ |
| guramukh viralai kinai pashhaanee || |
| How rare is that Gurmukh who realizes this. |
 |
| ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਤੇ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਆਵਣੁ ਜਾਣੁ ਰਹਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੧॥ |
| sachae sabadh rathae bairaagee aavan jaan rehaaee hae ||11|| |
| Those who are imbued with the True Shabad are detached. Their comings and goings in reincarnation are ended. ||11|| |

| ਸਬਦੁ ਬੁਝੈ ਸੋ ਮੈਲੁ ਚੁਕਾਏ ॥ |
| sabadh bujhai so mail chukaaeae || |
| One who realizes the Shabad is cleansed of impurities. |
 |
| ਨਿਰਮਲ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਏ ॥ |
| niramal naam vasai man aaeae || |
| The Immaculate Naam abides within his mind. |
 |
| ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਅਪਣਾ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਜਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੨॥ |
| sathigur apanaa sadh hee saevehi houmai vichahu jaaee hae ||12|| |
| He serves his True Guru forever, and egotism is eradicated from within. ||12|| |
 |
| ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਬੂਝੈ ਤਾ ਦਰੁ ਸੂਝੈ ॥ |
| gur thae boojhai thaa dhar soojhai || |
| If one comes to understand, through the Guru, then he comes to know the Lord's Door. |
 |
| ਨਾਮ ਵਿਹੂਣਾ ਕਥਿ ਕਥਿ ਲੂਝੈ ॥ |
| naam vihoonaa kathh kathh loojhai || |
| But without the Naam, one babbles and argues in vain. |
 |
| ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਕੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਭੂਖ ਗਵਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੩॥ |
| sathigur saevae kee vaddiaaee thrisanaa bhookh gavaaee hae ||13|| |
| The glory of serving the True Guru is that it eradicates hunger and thirst. ||13|| |
 |
| ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਤਾ ਬੂਝੈ ॥ |
| aapae aap milai thaa boojhai || |
| When the Lord unites them with Himself, then they come to understand. |
 |
| ਗਿਆਨ ਵਿਹੂਣਾ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਸੂਝੈ ॥ |
| giaan vihoonaa kishhoo n soojhai || |
| Without spiritual wisdom, they understand nothing at all. |
 |
| ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਸਦਾ ਮਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਬਦਿ ਵਜਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੪॥ |
| gur kee dhaath sadhaa man anthar baanee sabadh vajaaee hae ||14|| |
| One whose mind is filled with the Guru's gift forever - his inner being resounds with the Shabad, and the Word of the Guru's Bani. ||14|| |

| ਜੋ ਧੁਰਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਸੁ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਇਆ ॥ |
| jo dhhur likhiaa s karam kamaaeiaa || |
| He acts according to his pre-ordained destiny. |
 |
| ਕੋਇ ਨ ਮੇਟੈ ਧੁਰਿ ਫੁਰਮਾਇਆ ॥ |
| koe n maettai dhhur furamaaeiaa || |
| No one can erase the Command of the Primal Lord. |
 |
| ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਹਿ ਤਿਨ ਹੀ ਵਾਸਾ ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਧੁਰਿ ਲਿਖਿ ਪਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੫॥ |
| sathasangath mehi thin hee vaasaa jin ko dhhur likh paaee hae ||15|| |
| They alone dwell in the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, who have such pre-ordained destiny. ||15|| |

| ਅਪਣੀ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਸੋ ਪਾਏ ॥ |
| apanee nadhar karae so paaeae || |
| He alone finds the Lord, unto whom He grants His Grace. |
 |
| ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਤਾੜੀ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਏ ॥ |
| sachai sabadh thaarree chith laaeae || |
| He links his consciousness to the deep meditative state of the True Shabad. |
 |
| ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸੁ ਕਹੈ ਬੇਨੰਤੀ ਭੀਖਿਆ ਨਾਮੁ ਦਰਿ ਪਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੬॥੧॥ |
| naanak dhaas kehai baenanthee bheekhiaa naam dhar paaee hae ||16||1|| |
| Nanak, Your slave, offers this humble prayer; I stand at Your Door, begging for Your Name. ||16||1|| |

| How rare is that person, who as Gurmukh, understands this. |

| ਏਕੋ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਭ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਹੇ ॥੧॥ |
| eaeko rav rehiaa sabh anthar this bin avar n koee hae ||1|| |
| The One Lord is permeating and pervading, deep within the nucleus of all. Without Him, there is no other at all. ||1|| |

| ਗਿਆਨੀ ਧਿਆਨੀ ਆਖਿ ਸੁਣਾਏ ॥ |
| giaanee dhhiaanee aakh sunaaeae || |
| The spiritual teachers and meditators proclaim this. |
 |
| ਸਭਨਾ ਰਿਜਕੁ ਸਮਾਹੇ ਆਪੇ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਹੋਰ ਨ ਹੋਈ ਹੇ ॥੨॥ |
| sabhanaa rijak samaahae aapae keemath hor n hoee hae ||2|| |
| He Himself nourishes all; no one else can estimate His value. ||2|| |
 |
| ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਅੰਧੁ ਅੰਧਾਰਾ ॥ |
| maaeiaa mohu andhh andhhaaraa || |
| Love and attachment to Maya are utter darkness. |
 |
| ਹਉਮੈ ਮੇਰਾ ਪਸਰਿਆ ਪਾਸਾਰਾ ॥ |
| houmai maeraa pasariaa paasaaraa || |
| Egotism and possessiveness have spread throughout the expanse of the universe. |
 |
| ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਜਲਤ ਰਹੈ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ਹੇ ॥੩॥ |
| anadhin jalath rehai dhin raathee gur bin saanth n hoee hae ||3|| |
| Night and day, they burn, day and night; without the Guru, there is no peace or tranquility. ||3|| |

| ਆਪੇ ਜੋੜਿ ਵਿਛੋੜੇ ਆਪੇ ॥ |
| aapae jorr vishhorrae aapae || |
| He Himself unites, and He Himself separates. |
 |
| ਆਪੇ ਥਾਪਿ ਉਥਾਪੇ ਆਪੇ ॥ |
| aapae thhaap outhhaapae aapae || |
| He Himself establishes, and He Himself disestablishes. |
 |
| ਸਚਾ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਸਚਾ ਪਾਸਾਰਾ ਹੋਰਨਿ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਨ ਹੋਈ ਹੇ ॥੪॥ |
| sachaa hukam sachaa paasaaraa horan hukam n hoee hae ||4|| |
| True is the Hukam of His Command, and True is the expanse of His universe. No one else can issue any Command. ||4|| |

| ਆਪੇ ਲਾਇ ਲਏ ਸੋ ਲਾਗੈ ॥ |
| aapae laae leae so laagai || |
| He alone is attached to the Lord, whom the Lord attaches to Himself. |
 |
| ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਜਮ ਕਾ ਭਉ ਭਾਗੈ ॥ |
| gur parasaadhee jam kaa bho bhaagai || |
| By Guru's Grace, the fear of death runs away. |
 |
| ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬੂਝੈ ਕੋਈ ਹੇ ॥੫॥ |
| anthar sabadh sadhaa sukhadhaathaa guramukh boojhai koee hae ||5|| |
| The Shabad, the Giver of peace, dwells forever deep within the nucleus of the self. One who is Gurmukh understands. ||5|| |
 |
| ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥ |
| aapae maelae mael milaaeae || |
| God Himself unites those united in His Union. |
 |
| ਪੁਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਸੋ ਮੇਟਣਾ ਨ ਜਾਏ ॥ |
| purab likhiaa so maettanaa n jaaeae || |
| Whatever is pre-ordained by destiny, cannot be erased. |
 |
| ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੇਵਾ ਹੋਈ ਹੇ ॥੬॥ |
| anadhin bhagath karae dhin raathee guramukh saevaa hoee hae ||6|| |
| Night and day, His devotees worship Him, day and night; one who becomes Gurmukh serves Him. ||6|| |

| ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਜਾਤਾ ॥ |
| sathigur saev sadhaa sukh jaathaa || |
| Serving the True Guru, lasting peace is experienced. |
 |
| ਆਪੇ ਆਇ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਸਭਨਾ ਕਾ ਦਾਤਾ ॥ |
| aapae aae miliaa sabhanaa kaa dhaathaa || |
| He Himself, the Giver of all, has come and met me. |
 |
| ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਅਗਨਿ ਨਿਵਾਰੀ ਸਬਦੁ ਚੀਨਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਈ ਹੇ ॥੭॥ |
| houmai maar thrisanaa agan nivaaree sabadh cheen sukh hoee hae ||7|| |
| Subduing egotism, the fire of thirst has been extinguished; contemplating the Word of the Shabad, peace is found. ||7|| |

| ਕਾਇਆ ਕੁਟੰਬੁ ਮੋਹੁ ਨ ਬੂਝੈ ॥ |

| One who is attached to his body and family, does not understand. |
