| ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਚੀ ਪਤਿ ਹੋਈ ॥ |

| Through the True Word of the Shabad, true honor is obtained. |

| ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ਕੋਈ ॥ |
| bin naavai mukath n paavai koee || |
| Without the Name, no one attains liberation. |

| ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੋ ਨਾਉ ਨ ਪਾਏ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਐਸੀ ਬਣਤ ਬਣਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੯॥ |
| bin sathigur ko naao n paaeae prabh aisee banath banaaee hae ||9|| |
| Without the True Guru, no one finds the Name. Such is the making which God has made. ||9|| |
|
| ਇਕਿ ਸਿਧ ਸਾਧਿਕ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ॥ |
| eik sidhh saadhhik bahuth veechaaree || |
| Some are Siddhas and seekers, and great contemplators. |
|
| ਇਕਿ ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੀ ॥ |
| eik ahinis naam rathae nirankaaree || |
| Some remain imbued with the Naam, the Name of the Formless Lord, day and night. |
|
| ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ਸੋ ਬੂਝੈ ਭਗਤਿ ਭਾਇ ਭਉ ਜਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੦॥ |
| jis no aap milaaeae so boojhai bhagath bhaae bho jaaee hae ||10|| |
| He alone understands, whom the Lord unites with Himself; through loving devotional worship, fear is dispelled. ||10|| |
|
| ਇਸਨਾਨੁ ਦਾਨੁ ਕਰਹਿ ਨਹੀ ਬੂਝਹਿ ॥ |
| eisanaan dhaan karehi nehee boojhehi || |
| Some take cleansing baths and give donations to charities, but they do not understand. |
|
| ਇਕਿ ਮਨੂਆ ਮਾਰਿ ਮਨੈ ਸਿਉ ਲੂਝਹਿ ॥ |
| eik manooaa maar manai sio loojhehi || |
| Some struggle with their minds, and conquer and subdue their minds. |
|
| ਸਾਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਤੇ ਇਕ ਰੰਗੀ ਸਾਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੧॥ |
| saachai sabadh rathae eik rangee saachai sabadh milaaee hae ||11|| |
| Some are imbued with love for the True Word of the Shabad; they merge with the True Shabad. ||11|| |
|
| ਆਪੇ ਸਿਰਜੇ ਦੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥ |
| aapae sirajae dhae vaddiaaee || |
| He Himself creates and bestows glorious greatness. |
|
| ਆਪੇ ਭਾਣੈ ਦੇਇ ਮਿਲਾਈ ॥ |
| aapae bhaanai dhaee milaaee || |
| By the Pleasure of His Will, He bestows union. |
|
| ਆਪੇ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਮੇਰੈ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਇਉ ਫੁਰਮਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੨॥ |
| aapae nadhar karae man vasiaa maerai prabh eio furamaaee hae ||12|| |
| Bestowing His Grace, He comes to dwell in the mind; such is the Command ordained by my God. ||12|| |
|
| ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਸੇ ਜਨ ਸਾਚੇ ॥ |
| sathigur saevehi sae jan saachae || |
| Those humble beings who serve the True Guru are true. |
|
| ਮਨਮੁਖ ਸੇਵਿ ਨ ਜਾਣਨਿ ਕਾਚੇ ॥ |
| manamukh saev n jaanan kaachae || |
| The false, self-willed manmukhs do not know how to serve the Guru. |
|
| ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਵੇਖੈ ਜਿਉ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਉ ਲਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੩॥ |
| aapae karathaa kar kar vaekhai jio bhaavai thio laaee hae ||13|| |
| The Creator Himself creates the creation and watches over it; he attaches all according to the Pleasure of His Will. ||13|| |
|
| ਜੁਗਿ ਜੁਗਿ ਸਾਚਾ ਏਕੋ ਦਾਤਾ ॥ |
| jug jug saachaa eaeko dhaathaa || |
| In each and every age, the True Lord is the one and only Giver. |
|
| ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੁ ਪਛਾਤਾ ॥ |
| poorai bhaag gur sabadh pashhaathaa || |
| Through perfect destiny, one realizes the Word of the Guru's Shabad. |
|
| ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲੇ ਸੇ ਵਿਛੁੜੇ ਨਾਹੀ ਨਦਰੀ ਸਹਜਿ ਮਿਲਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੪॥ |
| sabadh milae sae vishhurrae naahee nadharee sehaj milaaee hae ||14|| |
| Those who are immersed in the Shabad are not separated again. By His Grace, they are intuitively immersed in the Lord. ||14|| |
|
| ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੈਲੁ ਕਮਾਇਆ ॥ |
| houmai maaeiaa mail kamaaeiaa || |
| Acting in egotism, they are stained with the filth of Maya. |
|
| ਮਰਿ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮਹਿ ਦੂਜਾ ਭਾਇਆ ॥ |
| mar mar janmehi dhoojaa bhaaeiaa || |
| They die and die again, only to be reborn in the love of duality. |
|
| ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋਈ ਕਰਸੀ ॥ |
| jo this bhaavai soee karasee || |
| He does whatever He pleases. |
|
| ਆਪਹੁ ਹੋਆ ਨਾ ਕਿਛੁ ਹੋਸੀ ॥ |
| aapahu hoaa naa kishh hosee || |
| No one has done, or can do anything by himself. |
|
| ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਦਰਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਪਤਿ ਪਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੬॥੩॥ |
| naanak naam milai vaddiaaee dhar saachai path paaee hae ||16||3|| |
| O Nanak, through the Name, one is blessed with glorious greatness, and obtains honor in the Court of the True Lord. ||16||3|| |

| ਜੋ ਆਇਆ ਸੋ ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਜਾਸੀ ॥ |
| jo aaeiaa so sabh ko jaasee || |
| All who come shall have to depart. |
|
| ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਬਾਧਾ ਜਮ ਫਾਸੀ ॥ |
| dhoojai bhaae baadhhaa jam faasee || |
| In the love of duality, they are caught by the noose of the Messenger of Death. |
|
| ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਰਾਖੇ ਸੇ ਜਨ ਉਬਰੇ ਸਾਚੇ ਸਾਚਿ ਸਮਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧॥ |
| sathigur raakhae sae jan oubarae saachae saach samaaee hae ||1|| |
| Those humble beings who are protected by the True Guru, are saved. They merge into the Truest of the True. ||1|| |
|
| ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਵੇਖੈ ॥ |
| aapae karathaa kar kar vaekhai || |
| The Creator Himself creates the creation, and watches over it. |
|
| ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਸੋਈ ਜਨੁ ਲੇਖੈ ॥ |
| jis no nadhar karae soee jan laekhai || |
| Thay alone are acceptable, upon whom He bestows His Glance of Grace. |

| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਸੂਝੈ ਅਗਿਆਨੀ ਅੰਧੁ ਕਮਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੨॥ |
| guramukh giaan this sabh kishh soojhai agiaanee andhh kamaaee hae ||2|| |
| The Gurmukh attains spiritual wisdom, and understands everything. The ignorant ones act blindly. ||2|| |
|
| ਮਨਮੁਖ ਸਹਸਾ ਬੂਝ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥ |
| manamukh sehasaa boojh n paaee || |
| The self-willed manmukh is cynical; he doesn't understand. |
|
| ਮਰਿ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮੈ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਈ ॥ |
| mar mar janmai janam gavaaee || |
| He dies and dies again, only to be reborn, and loses his life uselessly again. |
|
| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਹਜੇ ਸਾਚਿ ਸਮਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੩॥ |
| guramukh naam rathae sukh paaeiaa sehajae saach samaaee hae ||3|| |
| The Gurmukh is imbued with the Naam, the Name of the Lord; he find peace, and is intuitively immersed in the True Lord. ||3|| |
|
| ਧੰਧੈ ਧਾਵਤ ਮਨੁ ਭਇਆ ਮਨੂਰਾ ॥ |
| dhhandhhai dhhaavath man bhaeiaa manooraa || |
| Chasing after worldly affairs, the mind has become corroded and rusty. |
|
| ਫਿਰਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਕੰਚਨੁ ਭੇਟੈ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ॥ |
| fir hovai kanchan bhaettai gur pooraa || |
| But meeting with the Perfect Guru, it is transmuted into gold once again. |

| ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸਿ ਲਏ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ਪੂਰੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੪॥ |
| aapae bakhas leae sukh paaeae poorai sabadh milaaee hae ||4|| |
| When the Lord Himself grants forgiveness, then peace is obtained; through the Perfect Word of the Shabad, one is united with Him. ||4|| |

| ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਝੂਠੀ ਬੁਰੀ ਬੁਰਿਆਰਿ ॥ |
| dhuramath jhoothee buree buriaar || |
| The false and evil-minded are the most wicked of the wicked. |
|
| ਅਉਗਣਿਆਰੀ ਅਉਗਣਿਆਰਿ ॥ |
| aouganiaaree aouganiaar || |
| They are the most unworthy of the unworthy. |
|
| ਕਚੀ ਮਤਿ ਫੀਕਾ ਮੁਖਿ ਬੋਲੈ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਪਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੫॥ |
| kachee math feekaa mukh bolai dhuramath naam n paaee hae ||5|| |
| With false intellect, and insipid words of mouth, evil-minded, they do not obtain the Naam. ||5|| |
|
| ਅਉਗਣਿਆਰੀ ਕੰਤ ਨ ਭਾਵੈ ॥ |
| aouganiaaree kanth n bhaavai || |
| The unworthy soul-bride is not pleasing to her Husband Lord. |
|
| ਮਨ ਕੀ ਜੂਠੀ ਜੂਠੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ॥ |
| man kee joothee jooth kamaavai || |
| False-minded, her actions are false. |
|
| ਪਿਰ ਕਾ ਸਾਉ ਨ ਜਾਣੈ ਮੂਰਖਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਬੂਝ ਨ ਪਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੬॥ |
| pir kaa saao n jaanai moorakh bin gur boojh n paaee hae ||6|| |
| The foolish person does not know the excellence of her Husband Lord. Without the Guru, she does not understand at all. ||6|| |
|
| ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਖੋਟੀ ਖੋਟੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ॥ |
| dhuramath khottee khott kamaavai || |
| The evil-minded, wicked soul-bride practices wickedness. |
|
| ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ਕਰੇ ਪਿਰ ਖਸਮ ਨ ਭਾਵੈ ॥ |
| seegaar karae pir khasam n bhaavai || |
| She decorates herself, but her Husband Lord is not pleased. |
|
| ਗੁਣਵੰਤੀ ਸਦਾ ਪਿਰੁ ਰਾਵੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੭॥ |
| gunavanthee sadhaa pir raavai sathigur mael milaaee hae ||7|| |
| The virtuous soul-bride enjoys and ravishes her Husband Lord forever; the True Guru unites her in His Union. ||7|| |
|
| ਆਪੇ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਕਰੇ ਸਭੁ ਵੇਖੈ ॥ |
| aapae hukam karae sabh vaekhai || |
| God Himself issues the Hukam of His Command, and beholds all. |
|
| ਇਕਨਾ ਬਖਸਿ ਲਏ ਧੁਰਿ ਲੇਖੈ ॥ |
| eikanaa bakhas leae dhhur laekhai || |
| Some are forgiven, according to their pre-ordained destiny. |
|
| ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਸਚੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੮॥ |
| anadhin naam rathae sach paaeiaa aapae mael milaaee hae ||8|| |
| Night and day, they are imbued with the Naam, and they find the True Lord. He Himself unites them in His Union. ||8|| |
|
| ਹਉਮੈ ਧਾਤੁ ਮੋਹ ਰਸਿ ਲਾਈ ॥ |
| houmai dhhaath moh ras laaee || |
| Egotism attaches them to the juice of emotional attachment, and makes them run around. |
|
| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਲਿਵ ਸਾਚੀ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਈ ॥ |
| guramukh liv saachee sehaj samaaee || |
| The Gurmukh is intuitively immersed in the True Love of the Lord. |
