| ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲੈ ਆਪੇ ਕਰਿ ਵੇਖੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬੂਝ ਨ ਪਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੯॥ |
| aapae maelai aapae kar vaekhai bin sathigur boojh n paaee hae ||9|| |
| He Himself unites, He Himself acts, and beholds. Without the True Guru, understanding is not obtained. ||9|| |

| ਇਕਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ਸਦਾ ਜਨ ਜਾਗੇ ॥ |
| eik sabadh veechaar sadhaa jan jaagae || |
| Some contemplate the Word of the Shabad; these humble beings remain always awake and aware. |

| ਇਕਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਸੋਇ ਰਹੇ ਅਭਾਗੇ ॥ |
| eik maaeiaa mohi soe rehae abhaagae || |
| Some are attached to the love of Maya; these unfortunate ones remain asleep. |

| ਆਪੇ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਏ ਆਪੇ ਹੋਰੁ ਕਰਣਾ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਜਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੦॥ |
| aapae karae karaaeae aapae hor karanaa kishhoo n jaaee hae ||10|| |
| He Himself acts, and inspires all to act; no one else can do anything. ||10|| |
|
| ਕਾਲੁ ਮਾਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਨਿਵਾਰੇ ॥ |
| kaal maar gur sabadh nivaarae || |
| Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, death is conquered and killed. |
|
| ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਖੈ ਉਰ ਧਾਰੇ ॥ |
| har kaa naam rakhai our dhhaarae || |
| Keep the Name of the Lord enshrined within your heart. |
|
| ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੧॥ |
| sathigur saevaa thae sukh paaeiaa har kai naam samaaee hae ||11|| |
| Serving the True Guru, peace is obtained, and one merges in the Name of the Lord. ||11|| |
|
| ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਫਿਰੈ ਦੇਵਾਨੀ ॥ |
| dhoojai bhaae firai dhaevaanee || |
| In the love of duality, the world wanders around insane. |
|
| ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਦੁਖ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਨੀ ॥ |
| maaeiaa mohi dhukh maahi samaanee || |
| Immersed in love and attachment to Maya, it suffers in pain. |
|
| ਬਹੁਤੇ ਭੇਖ ਕਰੈ ਨਹ ਪਾਏ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੁਖੁ ਨ ਪਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੨॥ |
| bahuthae bhaekh karai neh paaeae bin sathigur sukh n paaee hae ||12|| |
| Wearing all sorts of religious robes, He is not obtained. Without the True Guru, peace is not found. ||12|| |
|
| ਕਿਸ ਨੋ ਕਹੀਐ ਜਾ ਆਪਿ ਕਰਾਏ ॥ |
| kis no keheeai jaa aap karaaeae || |
| Who is to blame, when He Himself does everything? |
|
| ਜਿਤੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਤੁ ਰਾਹਿ ਚਲਾਏ ॥ |
| jith bhaavai thith raahi chalaaeae || |
| As He wills, so is the path we take. |
|
| ਆਪੇ ਮਿਹਰਵਾਨੁ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਜਿਉ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਵੈ ਚਲਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੩॥ |
| aapae miharavaan sukhadhaathaa jio bhaavai thivai chalaaee hae ||13|| |
| He Himself is the Merciful Giver of peace; as He wills, so do we follow. ||13|| |
|
| ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਆਪੇ ਭੁਗਤਾ ॥ |
| aapae karathaa aapae bhugathaa || |
| He Himself is the Creator, and He Himself is the Enjoyer. |
|
| ਆਪੇ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਆਪੇ ਜੁਗਤਾ ॥ |
| aapae sanjam aapae jugathaa || |
| He Himself is detached, and He Himself is attached. |
|
| ਆਪੇ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਮਿਹਰਵਾਨੁ ਮਧੁਸੂਦਨੁ ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਨ ਮੇਟਿਆ ਜਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੪॥ |
| aapae niramal miharavaan madhhusoodhan jis dhaa hukam n maettiaa jaaee hae ||14|| |
| He Himself is immaculate, compassionate, the lover of nectar; the Hukam of His Command cannot be erased. ||14|| |
|
| ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਵਸਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਜਗਜੀਵਨੁ ਦਾਤਾ ॥ |
| ghatt ghatt vas rehiaa jagajeevan dhaathaa || |
| He dwells in each and every heart, the Great Giver, the Life of the world. |
|
| ਇਕ ਥੈ ਗੁਪਤੁ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਹੈ ਆਪੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਭਉ ਜਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੫॥ |
| eik thhai gupath paragatt hai aapae guramukh bhram bho jaaee hae ||15|| |
| At the same time, He is both hidden and revealed. For the Gurmukh, doubt and fear are dispelled. ||15|| |
|
| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਏਕੋ ਜਾਤਾ ॥ |
| guramukh har jeeo eaeko jaathaa || |
| The Gurmukh knows the One, the Dear Lord. |
|
| ਅੰਤਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਤਾ ॥ |
| anthar naam sabadh pashhaathaa || |
| Deep within the nucleus of his inner being, is the Naam, the Name of the Lord; he realizes the Word of the Shabad. |

| ਜਿਸੁ ਤੂ ਦੇਹਿ ਸੋਈ ਜਨੁ ਪਾਏ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਵਡਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੬॥੪॥ |
| jis thoo dhaehi soee jan paaeae naanak naam vaddaaee hae ||16||4|| |
| He alone receives it, unto whom You give it. O Nanak, the Naam is glorious greatness. ||16||4|| |

| I praise the true, profound and unfathomable Lord. |

| ਸਭੁ ਜਗੁ ਹੈ ਤਿਸ ਹੀ ਕੈ ਚੀਰੈ ॥ |
| sabh jag hai this hee kai cheerai || |
| All the world is in His power. |
|
| ਸਭਿ ਘਟ ਭੋਗਵੈ ਸਦਾ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਆਪੇ ਸੂਖ ਨਿਵਾਸੀ ਹੇ ॥੧॥ |
| sabh ghatt bhogavai sadhaa dhin raathee aapae sookh nivaasee hae ||1|| |
| He enjoys all hearts forever, day and night; He Himself dwells in peace. ||1|| |
|
| ਸਚਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸਚੀ ਨਾਈ ॥ |
| sachaa saahib sachee naaee || |
| True is the Lord and Master, and True is His Name. |
|
| ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਈ ॥ |
| gur parasaadhee mann vasaaee || |
| By Guru's Grace, I enshrine Him in my mind. |
|
| ਆਪੇ ਆਇ ਵਸਿਆ ਘਟ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਤੂਟੀ ਜਮ ਕੀ ਫਾਸੀ ਹੇ ॥੨॥ |
| aapae aae vasiaa ghatt anthar thoottee jam kee faasee hae ||2|| |
| He Himself has come to dwell deep within the nucleus of my heart; the noose of death has been snapped. ||2|| |
|
| ਕਿਸੁ ਸੇਵੀ ਤੈ ਕਿਸੁ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ॥ |
| kis saevee thai kis saalaahee || |
| Whom should I serve, and whom should I praise? |
|
| ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੀ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ॥ |
| sathigur saevee sabadh saalaahee || |
| I serve the True Guru, and praise the Word of the Shabad. |
|
| ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਦਾ ਮਤਿ ਊਤਮ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਕਮਲੁ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸੀ ਹੇ ॥੩॥ |
| sachai sabadh sadhaa math ootham anthar kamal pragaasee hae ||3|| |
| Through the True Shabad, the intellect is exalted and ennobled forever, and the lotus deep within blossoms forth. ||3|| |
|
| ਦੇਹੀ ਕਾਚੀ ਕਾਗਦ ਮਿਕਦਾਰਾ ॥ |
| dhaehee kaachee kaagadh mikadhaaraa || |
| The body is frail and perishable, like paper. |
|
| ਬੂੰਦ ਪਵੈ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਢਹਤ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਬਾਰਾ ॥ |
| boondh pavai binasai dtehath n laagai baaraa || |
| When the drop of water falls upon it, it crumbles and dissolves instantaneously. |

| ਕੰਚਨ ਕਾਇਆ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬੂਝੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਵਾਸੀ ਹੇ ॥੪॥ |
| kanchan kaaeiaa guramukh boojhai jis anthar naam nivaasee hae ||4|| |
| But the body of the Gurmukh, who understands, is like gold; the Naam, the Name of the Lord, dwells deep within. ||4|| |
|
| ਸਚਾ ਚਉਕਾ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਕੀ ਕਾਰਾ ॥ |
| sachaa choukaa surath kee kaaraa || |
| Pure is that kitchen, which is enclosed by spiritual awareness. |
|
| ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਭੋਜਨੁ ਸਚੁ ਆਧਾਰਾ ॥ |
| har naam bhojan sach aadhhaaraa || |
| The Lord's Name is my food, and Truth is my support. |
|
| ਸਦਾ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰੁ ਹੈ ਪਾਵਨੁ ਜਿਤੁ ਘਟਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਵਾਸੀ ਹੇ ॥੫॥ |
| sadhaa thripath pavithra hai paavan jith ghatt har naam nivaasee hae ||5|| |
| Forever satisfied, sanctified and pure is that person, within whose heart the Lord's Name abides. ||5|| |
|
| ਹਉ ਤਿਨ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ਜੋ ਸਾਚੈ ਲਾਗੇ ॥ |
| ho thin balihaaree jo saachai laagae || |
| I am a sacrifice to those who are attached to the Truth. |
|
| ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਜਾਗੇ ॥ |
| har gun gaavehi anadhin jaagae || |
| They sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, and remain awake and aware night and day. |
|
| ਸਾਚਾ ਸੂਖੁ ਸਦਾ ਤਿਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਰਸਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਰਸਿ ਰਾਸੀ ਹੇ ॥੬॥ |
| saachaa sookh sadhaa thin anthar rasanaa har ras raasee hae ||6|| |
| True peace fills them forever, and their tongues savor the sublime essence of the Lord. ||6|| |
|
| ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਚੇਤਾ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਪੂਜਾ ॥ |
| har naam chaethaa avar n poojaa || |
| I remember the Lord's Name, and no other at all. |
|
| ਏਕੋ ਸੇਵੀ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਦੂਜਾ ॥ |
| eaeko saevee avar n dhoojaa || |
| I serve the One Lord, and no other at all. |
|
| ਪੂਰੈ ਗੁਰਿ ਸਭੁ ਸਚੁ ਦਿਖਾਇਆ ਸਚੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਨਿਵਾਸੀ ਹੇ ॥੭॥ |
| poorai gur sabh sach dhikhaaeiaa sachai naam nivaasee hae ||7|| |
| The Perfect Guru has revealed the whole Truth to me; I dwell in the True Name. ||7|| |
|
| ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਜੋਨੀ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਆਇਆ ॥ |
| bhram bhram jonee fir fir aaeiaa || |
| Wandering, wandering in reincarnation, again and again, he comes into the world. |
|
| ਆਪਿ ਭੂਲਾ ਜਾ ਖਸਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਇਆ ॥ |
| aap bhoolaa jaa khasam bhulaaeiaa || |
| He is deluded and confused, when the Lord and Master confuses him. |
|
| ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਮਿਲੈ ਤਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬੂਝੈ ਚੀਨੈ ਸਬਦੁ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਹੇ ॥੮॥ |
| har jeeo milai thaa guramukh boojhai cheenai sabadh abinaasee hae ||8|| |
| He meets with the Dear Lord, when, as Gurmukh, he understands; he remembers the Shabad, the Word of the immortal, eternal Lord God. ||8|| |

| ਕਾਮਿ ਕ੍ਰੋਧਿ ਭਰੇ ਹਮ ਅਪਰਾਧੀ ॥ |
| kaam krodhh bharae ham aparaadhhee || |
| I am a sinner, overflowing with sexual desire and anger. |
|
| ਕਿਆ ਮੁਹੁ ਲੈ ਬੋਲਹ ਨਾ ਹਮ ਗੁਣ ਨ ਸੇਵਾ ਸਾਧੀ ॥ |
| kiaa muhu lai boleh naa ham gun n saevaa saadhhee || |
| With what mouth should I speak? I have no virtue, and I have rendered no service. |

| ਡੁਬਦੇ ਪਾਥਰ ਮੇਲਿ ਲੈਹੁ ਤੁਮ ਆਪੇ ਸਾਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਹੇ ॥੯॥ |
| ddubadhae paathhar mael laihu thum aapae saach naam abinaasee hae ||9|| |
| I am a sinking stone; please, Lord, unite me with Yourself. Your Name is eternal and imperishable. ||9|| |

| ਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਕਰੇ ਨ ਕਰਣੈ ਜੋਗਾ ॥ |
| naa koee karae n karanai jogaa || |
| No one does anything; no one is able to do anything. |
