| Servant Nanak continually sings the Glorious Praises of the True Lord; singing His Glories, he is immersed in the Glorious Lord of Virtue. ||16||4||13|| |

| The One Lord is eternal and unchanging, forever True. |

| ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਸੋਝੀ ਹੋਈ ॥ |
| poorae gur thae sojhee hoee || |
| Through the Perfect Guru, this understanding is obtained. |

| ਹਰਿ ਰਸਿ ਭੀਨੇ ਸਦਾ ਧਿਆਇਨਿ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸੀਲੁ ਸੰਨਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧॥ |
| har ras bheenae sadhaa dhhiaaein guramath seel sannaahaa hae ||1|| |
| Those who are drenched with the sublime essence of the Lord, meditate forever on Him; following the Guru's Teachings, they obtain the armor of humility. ||1|| |

| ਅੰਦਰਿ ਰੰਗੁ ਸਦਾ ਸਚਿਆਰਾ ॥ |
| andhar rang sadhaa sachiaaraa || |
| Deep within, they love the True Lord forever. |
 |
| ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਪਿਆਰਾ ॥ |
| gur kai sabadh har naam piaaraa || |
| Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, they love the Lord's Name. |
 |
| ਨਉ ਨਿਧਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸਿਆ ਘਟ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਛੋਡਿਆ ਮਾਇਆ ਕਾ ਲਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੨॥ |
| no nidhh naam vasiaa ghatt anthar shhoddiaa maaeiaa kaa laahaa hae ||2|| |
| The Naam, the embodiment of the nine treasures, abides within their hearts; they renounce the profit of Maya. ||2|| |

| ਰਈਅਤਿ ਰਾਜੇ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਦੋਈ ॥ |
| reeath raajae dhuramath dhoee || |
| Both the king and his subjects are involved in evil-mindedness and duality. |
 |
| ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਏਕੁ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥ |
| bin sathigur saevae eaek n hoee || |
| Without serving the True Guru, they do not become one with the Lord. |
 |
| ਏਕੁ ਧਿਆਇਨਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਨਿ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਰਾਜੁ ਤਿਨਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੩॥ |
| eaek dhhiaaein sadhaa sukh paaein nihachal raaj thinaahaa hae ||3|| |
| Those who meditate on the One Lord find eternal peace. Their power is eternal and unfailing. ||3|| |
 |
| ਆਵਣੁ ਜਾਣਾ ਰਖੈ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥ |
| aavan jaanaa rakhai n koee || |
| No one can save them from coming and going. |
 |
| ਜੰਮਣੁ ਮਰਣੁ ਤਿਸੈ ਤੇ ਹੋਈ ॥ |
| janman maran thisai thae hoee || |
| Birth and death come from Him. |
 |
| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਾਚਾ ਸਦਾ ਧਿਆਵਹੁ ਗਤਿ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਤਿਸੈ ਤੇ ਪਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੪॥ |
| guramukh saachaa sadhaa dhhiaavahu gath mukath thisai thae paahaa hae ||4|| |
| The Gurmukh meditates forever on the True Lord. Emancipation and liberation are obtained from Him. ||4|| |
 |
| ਸਚੁ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੁਆਰੈ ॥ |
| sach sanjam sathiguroo dhuaarai || |
| Truth and self-control are found through the Door of the True Guru. |
 |
| ਹਉਮੈ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਨਿਵਾਰੈ ॥ |
| houmai krodhh sabadh nivaarai || |
| Egotism and anger are silenced through the Shabad. |
 |
| ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਸੀਲੁ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਸਭੁ ਤਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੫॥ |
| sathigur saev sadhaa sukh paaeeai seel santhokh sabh thaahaa hae ||5|| |
| Serving the True Guru, lasting peace is found; humility and contentment all come from Him. ||5|| |
 |
| ਹਉਮੈ ਮੋਹੁ ਉਪਜੈ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥ |
| houmai mohu oupajai sansaaraa || |
| Out of egotism and attachment, the Universe welled up. |
 |
| ਸਭੁ ਜਗੁ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਾ ॥ |
| sabh jag binasai naam visaaraa || |
| Forgetting the Naam, the Name of the Lord, all the world perishes. |
 |
| ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਚਾ ਜਗਿ ਲਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੬॥ |
| bin sathigur saevae naam n paaeeai naam sachaa jag laahaa hae ||6|| |
| Without serving the True Guru, the Naam is not obtained. The Naam is the True profit in this world. ||6|| |

| ਸਚਾ ਅਮਰੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਹਾਇਆ ॥ |
| sachaa amar sabadh suhaaeiaa || |
| True is His Will, beauteous and pleasing through the Word of the Shabad. |
 |
| ਸਦਾ ਕਾਰਜੁ ਸਚਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸੁਹੇਲਾ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਕਾਰਜੁ ਕੇਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੭॥ |
| sadhaa kaaraj sach naam suhaelaa bin sabadhai kaaraj kaehaa hae ||7|| |
| Through the True Name, one's actions are forever embellished. Without the Shabad, what can anyone do? ||7|| |

| ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਹਸੈ ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਰੋਵੈ ॥ |
| khin mehi hasai khin mehi rovai || |
| One instant, he laughs, and the next instant, he cries. |
 |
| ਦੂਜੀ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਕਾਰਜੁ ਨ ਹੋਵੈ ॥ |
| dhoojee dhuramath kaaraj n hovai || |
| Because of duality and evil-mindedness, his affairs are not resolved. |
 |
| ਸੰਜੋਗੁ ਵਿਜੋਗੁ ਕਰਤੈ ਲਿਖਿ ਪਾਏ ਕਿਰਤੁ ਨ ਚਲੈ ਚਲਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੮॥ |
| sanjog vijog karathai likh paaeae kirath n chalai chalaahaa hae ||8|| |
| Union and separation are pre-ordained by the Creator. Actions already committed cannot be taken back. ||8|| |
 |
| ਜੀਵਨ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੁ ਕਮਾਏ ॥ |
| jeevan mukath gur sabadh kamaaeae || |
| One who lives the Word of the Guru's Shabad becomes Jivan Mukta - liberated while yet alive. |
 |
| ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਰਹੈ ਸਮਾਏ ॥ |
| har sio sadh hee rehai samaaeae || |
| He remains forever immersed in the Lord. |
 |
| ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਹਉਮੈ ਰੋਗੁ ਨ ਤਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੯॥ |
| gur kirapaa thae milai vaddiaaee houmai rog n thaahaa hae ||9|| |
| By Guru's Grace, one is blessed with glorious greatness; he is not afflicted by the disease of egotism. ||9|| |

| ਰਸ ਕਸ ਖਾਏ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਵਧਾਏ ॥ |
| ras kas khaaeae pindd vadhhaaeae || |
| Eating tasty delicacies, he fattens up his body |
 |
| ਭੇਖ ਕਰੈ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੁ ਨ ਕਮਾਏ ॥ |
| bhaekh karai gur sabadh n kamaaeae || |
| and wears religious robes, but he does not live to the Word of the Guru's Shabad. |
 |
| ਅੰਤਰਿ ਰੋਗੁ ਮਹਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਭਾਰੀ ਬਿਸਟਾ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੦॥ |
| anthar rog mehaa dhukh bhaaree bisattaa maahi samaahaa hae ||10|| |
| Deep with the nucleus of his being is the great disease; he suffers terrible pain, and eventually sinks into the manure. ||10|| |
 |
| ਬੇਦ ਪੜਹਿ ਪੜਿ ਬਾਦੁ ਵਖਾਣਹਿ ॥ |
| baedh parrehi parr baadh vakhaanehi || |
| He reads and studies the Vedas, and argues about them; |
 |
| ਘਟ ਮਹਿ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਨ ਪਛਾਣਹਿ ॥ |
| ghatt mehi breham this sabadh n pashhaanehi || |
| God is within his own heart, but he does not recognize the Word of the Shabad. |
 |
| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੁ ਤਤੁ ਬਿਲੋਵੈ ਰਸਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਤਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੧॥ |
| guramukh hovai s thath bilovai rasanaa har ras thaahaa hae ||11|| |
| One who becomes Gurmukh churns the essence of reality; his tongue savors the sublime essence of the Lord. ||11|| |
 |
| ਘਰਿ ਵਥੁ ਛੋਡਹਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਧਾਵਹਿ ॥ |
| ghar vathh shhoddehi baahar dhhaavehi || |
| Those who forsake the object within their own hearts, wander outside. |
 |
| ਮਨਮੁਖ ਅੰਧੇ ਸਾਦੁ ਨ ਪਾਵਹਿ ॥ |
| manamukh andhhae saadh n paavehi || |
| The blind, self-willed manmukhs do not taste the flavor of God. |
 |
| ਅਨ ਰਸ ਰਾਤੀ ਰਸਨਾ ਫੀਕੀ ਬੋਲੇ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਮੂਲਿ ਨ ਤਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੨॥ |
| an ras raathee rasanaa feekee bolae har ras mool n thaahaa hae ||12|| |
| Imbued with the taste of another, their tongues speak tasteless, insipid words. They never taste the sublime essence of the Lord. ||12|| |
 |
| ਮਨਮੁਖ ਦੇਹੀ ਭਰਮੁ ਭਤਾਰੋ ॥ |
| manamukh dhaehee bharam bhathaaro || |
| The self-willed manmukh has doubt as his spouse. |
 |
| ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਮਰੈ ਨਿਤ ਹੋਇ ਖੁਆਰੋ ॥ |
| dhuramath marai nith hoe khuaaro || |
| He dies of evil-mindedness, and suffers forever. |
 |
| ਕਾਮਿ ਕ੍ਰੋਧਿ ਮਨੁ ਦੂਜੈ ਲਾਇਆ ਸੁਪਨੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਨ ਤਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੩॥ |
| kaam krodhh man dhoojai laaeiaa supanai sukh n thaahaa hae ||13|| |
| His mind is attached to sexual desire, anger and duality, and he does not find peace, even in dreams. ||13|| |
 |
| ਕੰਚਨ ਦੇਹੀ ਸਬਦੁ ਭਤਾਰੋ ॥ |
| kanchan dhaehee sabadh bhathaaro || |
| The body becomes golden, with the Word of the Shabad as its spouse. |
 |
| ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਭੋਗ ਭੋਗੇ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਪਿਆਰੋ ॥ |
| anadhin bhog bhogae har sio piaaro || |
| Night and day, enjoy the enjoyments, and be in love with the Lord. |
 |
| ਮਹਲਾ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਗੈਰ ਮਹਲੁ ਪਾਏ ਭਾਣਾ ਬੁਝਿ ਸਮਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੪॥ |
| mehalaa andhar gair mehal paaeae bhaanaa bujh samaahaa hae ||14|| |
| Deep within the mansion of the self, one finds the Lord, who transcends this mansion. Realizing His Will, we merge in Him. ||14|| |
 |
| ਆਪੇ ਦੇਵੈ ਦੇਵਣਹਾਰਾ ॥ |
| aapae dhaevai dhaevanehaaraa || |
| The Great Giver Himself gives. |
 |
| ਤਿਸੁ ਆਗੈ ਨਹੀ ਕਿਸੈ ਕਾ ਚਾਰਾ ॥ |
| this aagai nehee kisai kaa chaaraa || |
| No one has any power to stand against Him. |
 |
| ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸੇ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ਤਿਸ ਦਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਅਥਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੫॥ |
| aapae bakhasae sabadh milaaeae this dhaa sabadh athhaahaa hae ||15|| |
| He Himself forgives, and unites us with the Shabad; The Word of His Shabad is unfathomable. ||15|| |
 |
| ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਸਭੁ ਹੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਕੇਰਾ ॥ |
| jeeo pindd sabh hai this kaeraa || |
| Body and soul, all belong to Him. |
 |
| ਸਚਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਮੇਰਾ ॥ |
| sachaa saahib thaakur maeraa || |
| The True Lord is my only Lord and Master. |
 |
| ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਜਪੁ ਜਾਪਿ ਸਮਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੬॥੫॥੧੪॥ |
| naanak gurabaanee har paaeiaa har jap jaap samaahaa hae ||16||5||14|| |
| O Nanak, through the Word of the Guru's Bani, I have found the Lord. Chanting the Lord's Chant, I merge in Him. ||16||5||14|| |
