| The Gurmukh acts in harmony with God's Will; the Gurmukh finds perfection. ||1|| |

| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਨੂਆ ਉਲਟਿ ਪਰਾਵੈ ॥ |
| guramukh manooaa oulatt paraavai || |
| The mind of the Gurmukh turns away from the world. |

| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬਾਣੀ ਨਾਦੁ ਵਜਾਵੈ ॥ |
| guramukh baanee naadh vajaavai || |
| The Gurmukh vibrates the Naad, the sound current of the Guru's Bani. |

| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਚਿ ਰਤੇ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਵਾਸਾ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੨॥ |
| guramukh sach rathae bairaagee nij ghar vaasaa paaeidhaa ||2|| |
| The Gurmukh, attuned to the Truth, remains detached, and dwells in the home of the self deep within. ||2|| |

| ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸਾਖੀ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਭਾਖੀ ॥ |
| gur kee saakhee anmrith bhaakhee || |
| I speak the Ambrosial Teachings of the Guru. |
|
| ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦੇ ਸਚੁ ਸੁਭਾਖੀ ॥ |
| sachai sabadhae sach subhaakhee || |
| I lovingly chant the Truth, through the True Word of the Shabad. |
|
| ਸਦਾ ਸਚਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤਾ ਮਨੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਚੇ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਇਦਾ ॥੩॥ |
| sadhaa sach rang raathaa man maeraa sachae sach samaaeidhaa ||3|| |
| My mind remains forever imbued with the Love of the True Lord. I am immersed in the Truest of the True. ||3|| |

| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਸਤ ਸਰਿ ਨਾਵੈ ॥ |
| guramukh man niramal sath sar naavai || |
| Immaculate and pure is the mind of the Gurmukh, who bathes in the Pool of Truth. |

| ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥ |
| mail n laagai sach samaavai || |
| No filth attaches to him; he merges in the True Lord. |

| ਸਚੋ ਸਚੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਸਚੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇਦਾ ॥੪॥ |
| sacho sach kamaavai sadh hee sachee bhagath dhrirraaeidhaa ||4|| |
| He truly practices Truth forever; true devotion is implanted within him. ||4|| |
|
| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਚੁ ਬੈਣੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਚੁ ਨੈਣੀ ॥ |
| guramukh sach bainee guramukh sach nainee || |
| True is the speech of the Gurmukh; true are the eyes of the Gurmukh. |

| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਚੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਕਰਣੀ ॥ |
| guramukh sach kamaavai karanee || |
| The Gurmukh practices and lives the Truth. |
|
| ਸਦ ਹੀ ਸਚੁ ਕਹੈ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਅਵਰਾ ਸਚੁ ਕਹਾਇਦਾ ॥੫॥ |
| sadh hee sach kehai dhin raathee avaraa sach kehaaeidhaa ||5|| |
| He speaks the Truth forever, day and night, and inspires others to speak the Truth. ||5|| |

| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਚੀ ਊਤਮ ਬਾਣੀ ॥ |
| guramukh sachee ootham baanee || |
| True and exalted is the speech of the Gurmukh. |
|
| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਚੋ ਸਚੁ ਵਖਾਣੀ ॥ |
| guramukh sacho sach vakhaanee || |
| The Gurmukh speaks Truth, only Truth. |
|
| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੁ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਏ ॥ |
| guramukh hovai s sojhee paaeae || |
| One who becomes Gurmukh understands. |
|
| ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਭਰਮੁ ਗਵਾਏ ॥ |
| houmai maaeiaa bharam gavaaeae || |
| He rids himself of egotism, Maya and doubt. |
|
| ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਪਉੜੀ ਊਤਮ ਊਚੀ ਦਰਿ ਸਚੈ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇਦਾ ॥੭॥ |
| gur kee pourree ootham oochee dhar sachai har gun gaaeidhaa ||7|| |
| He ascends the sublime, exalted ladder of the Guru, and he sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord at His True Door. ||7|| |

| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਚੁ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਕਰਣੀ ਸਾਰੁ ॥ |

| The Gurmukh practices true self-control, and acts in excellence. |
|
| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਏ ਮੋਖ ਦੁਆਰੁ ॥ |
| guramukh paaeae mokh dhuaar || |
| The Gurmukh obtains the gate of salvation. |
|
| ਭਾਇ ਭਗਤਿ ਸਦਾ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤਾ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਇ ਸਮਾਇਦਾ ॥੮॥ |
| bhaae bhagath sadhaa rang raathaa aap gavaae samaaeidhaa ||8|| |
| Through loving devotion, he remains forever imbued with the Lord's Love; eradicating self-conceit, he merges in the Lord. ||8|| |

| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਮਨੁ ਖੋਜਿ ਸੁਣਾਏ ॥ |
| guramukh hovai man khoj sunaaeae || |
| One who becomes Gurmukh examines his own mind, and instructs others. |
|
| ਸਚੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਦਾ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਏ ॥ |
| sachai naam sadhaa liv laaeae || |
| He is lovingly attuned to the True Name forever. |
|
| ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋਈ ਕਰਸੀ ਜੋ ਸਚੇ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਇਦਾ ॥੯॥ |
| jo this bhaavai soee karasee jo sachae man bhaaeidhaa ||9|| |
| They act in harmony with the Mind of the True Lord. ||9|| |
|
| ਜਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥ |
| jaa this bhaavai sathiguroo milaaeae || |
| As it pleases His Will, He unites us with the True Guru. |
|
| ਜਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਾ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਏ ॥ |
| jaa this bhaavai thaa mann vasaaeae || |
| As it pleases His Will, He comes to dwell within the mind. |
|
| ਆਪਣੈ ਭਾਣੈ ਸਦਾ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤਾ ਭਾਣੈ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੦॥ |
| aapanai bhaanai sadhaa rang raathaa bhaanai mann vasaaeidhaa ||10|| |
| As it pleases His Will, He imbues us with His Love; as it pleases His Will, He comes to dwell in the mind. ||10|| |
|
| ਮਨਹਠਿ ਕਰਮ ਕਰੇ ਸੋ ਛੀਜੈ ॥ |
| manehath karam karae so shheejai || |
| Those who act stubborn-mindedly are destroyed. |
|
| ਬਹੁਤੇ ਭੇਖ ਕਰੇ ਨਹੀ ਭੀਜੈ ॥ |
| bahuthae bhaekh karae nehee bheejai || |
| Wearing all sorts of religious robes, they do not please the Lord. |
|
| ਬਿਖਿਆ ਰਾਤੇ ਦੁਖੁ ਕਮਾਵਹਿ ਦੁਖੇ ਦੁਖਿ ਸਮਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੧॥ |
| bikhiaa raathae dhukh kamaavehi dhukhae dhukh samaaeidhaa ||11|| |
| Tinged by corruption, they earn only pain; they are immersed in pain. ||11|| |
|
| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਕਮਾਏ ॥ |
| guramukh hovai s sukh kamaaeae || |
| One who becomes Gurmukh earns peace. |
|
| ਮਰਣ ਜੀਵਣ ਕੀ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਏ ॥ |
| maran jeevan kee sojhee paaeae || |
| He comes to understand death and birth. |
|
| ਮਰਣੁ ਜੀਵਣੁ ਜੋ ਸਮ ਕਰਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਸੋ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੨॥ |
| maran jeevan jo sam kar jaanai so maerae prabh bhaaeidhaa ||12|| |
| One who looks alike upon death and birth, is pleasing to my God. ||12|| |
|
| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਰਹਿ ਸੁ ਹਹਿ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥ |
| guramukh marehi s hehi paravaan || |
| The Gurmukh, while remaining dead, is respected and approved. |
|
| ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਪਛਾਣੁ ॥ |
| aavan jaanaa sabadh pashhaan || |
| He realizes that coming and going are according to God's Will. |
|
| ਮਰੈ ਨ ਜੰਮੈ ਨਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ਮਨ ਹੀ ਮਨਹਿ ਸਮਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੩॥ |
| marai n janmai naa dhukh paaeae man hee manehi samaaeidhaa ||13|| |
| He does not die, he is not reborn, and he does not suffer in pain; his mind merges in the Mind of God. ||13|| |
|
| ਸੇ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਜਿਨੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ |
| sae vaddabhaagee jinee sathigur paaeiaa || |
| Very fortunate are those who find the True Guru. |
|
| ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਮੋਹੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ ॥ |
| houmai vichahu mohu chukaaeiaa || |
| They eradicate egotism and attachment from within. |
|
| ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਫਿਰਿ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਦਰਿ ਸਚੈ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੪॥ |
| man niramal fir mail n laagai dhar sachai sobhaa paaeidhaa ||14|| |
| Their minds are immaculate, and they are never again stained with filth. They are honored at the Door of the True Court. ||14|| |

| ਆਪੇ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਏ ਆਪੇ ॥ |

| He Himself acts, and inspires all to act. |
|
| ਆਪੇ ਵੇਖੈ ਥਾਪਿ ਉਥਾਪੇ ॥ |
| aapae vaekhai thhaap outhhaapae || |
| He Himself watches over all; He establishes and disestablishes. |
|
| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੇਵਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਵੈ ਸਚੁ ਸੁਣਿ ਲੇਖੈ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੫॥ |
| guramukh saevaa maerae prabh bhaavai sach sun laekhai paaeidhaa ||15|| |
| The service of the Gurmukh is pleasing to my God; one who listens to the Truth is approved. ||15|| |
|
| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਚੋ ਸਚੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ॥ |
| guramukh sacho sach kamaavai || |
| The Gurmukh practices Truth, and only Truth. |
|
| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਲਾਵੈ ॥ |

| The Gurmukh is immaculate; no filth attaches to him. |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ਨਾਮੇ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੬॥੧॥੧੫॥ |
| naanak naam rathae veechaaree naamae naam samaaeidhaa ||16||1||15|| |
| O Nanak, those who contemplate the Naam are imbued with it. They merge in the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||16||1||15|| |
