| ਹਉਮੈ ਮੈਲੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਜਲਾਏ ॥ |

| ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਰਤਨੁ ਚਾਨਣੁ ਅਗਿਆਨੁ ਅੰਧੇਰੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥੭॥ |
| man niramal giaan rathan chaanan agiaan andhhaer gavaaeiaa ||7|| |
| The mind becomes immaculate, and the jewel of spiritual wisdom brings enlightenment; the darkness of spiritual ignorance is dispelled. ||7|| |

| ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਅਨੇਕ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਈ ॥ |
| thaerae naam anaek keemath nehee paaee || |
| Your Names are countless; Your value cannot be estimated. |
|
| ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਰਿ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਵਸਾਈ ॥ |
| sach naam har hiradhai vasaaee || |
| I enshrine the Lord's True Name within my heart. |
|
| ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਉਣੁ ਕਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੇਰੀ ਤੂ ਆਪੇ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੮॥ |
| keemath koun karae prabh thaeree thoo aapae sehaj samaaeiaa ||8|| |
| Who can estimate Your value, God? You are immersed and absorbed in Yourself. ||8|| |
|
| ਨਾਮੁ ਅਮੋਲਕੁ ਅਗਮ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥ |
| naam amolak agam apaaraa || |
| The Naam, the Name of the Lord, is priceless, inaccessible and infinite. |
|
| ਨਾ ਕੋ ਹੋਆ ਤੋਲਣਹਾਰਾ ॥ |
| naa ko hoaa tholanehaaraa || |
| No one can weigh it. |
|
| ਆਪੇ ਤੋਲੇ ਤੋਲਿ ਤੋਲਾਏ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਮੇਲਿ ਤੋਲਾਇਆ ॥੯॥ |
| aapae tholae thol tholaaeae gur sabadhee mael tholaaeiaa ||9|| |
| You Yourself weigh, and estimate all; through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, You unite, when the weight is perfect. ||9|| |

| ਸੇਵਕ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ॥ |
| saevak saevehi karehi aradhaas || |
| Your servant serves, and offers this prayer. |

| ਤੂ ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਬਹਾਲਹਿ ਪਾਸਿ ॥ |
| thoo aapae mael behaalehi paas || |
| Please, let me sit near You, and unite me with Yourself. |

| ਸਭਨਾ ਜੀਆ ਕਾ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਪੂਰੈ ਕਰਮਿ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥੧੦॥ |
| sabhanaa jeeaa kaa sukhadhaathaa poorai karam dhhiaaeiaa ||10|| |
| You are the Giver of peace to all beings; by perfect karma, we meditate on You. ||10|| |
|
| ਜਤੁ ਸਤੁ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਜਿ ਸਚੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ॥ |
| jath sath sanjam j sach kamaavai || |
| Chastity, truth and self-control come by practicing and living the Truth. |
|
| ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਜਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ॥ |
| eihu man niramal j har gun gaavai || |
| This mind becomes immaculate and pure, singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. |

| ਇਸੁ ਬਿਖੁ ਮਹਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਮੇਰੇ ਭਾਇਆ ॥੧੧॥ |
| eis bikh mehi anmrith paraapath hovai har jeeo maerae bhaaeiaa ||11|| |
| In this world of poison, the Ambrosial Nectar is obtained, if it pleases my Dear Lord. ||11|| |
|
| ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਬੁਝਾਏ ਸੋਈ ਬੂਝੈ ॥ |
| jis no bujhaaeae soee boojhai || |
| He alone understands, whom God inspires to understand. |
|
| ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਅੰਦਰੁ ਸੂਝੈ ॥ |
| har gun gaavai andhar soojhai || |
| Singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, one's inner being is awakened. |
|
| ਹਉਮੈ ਮੇਰਾ ਠਾਕਿ ਰਹਾਏ ਸਹਜੇ ਹੀ ਸਚੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੧੨॥ |
| houmai maeraa thaak rehaaeae sehajae hee sach paaeiaa ||12|| |
| Egotism and possessiveness are silenced and subdued, and one intuitively finds the True Lord. ||12|| |
|
| ਬਿਨੁ ਕਰਮਾ ਹੋਰ ਫਿਰੈ ਘਨੇਰੀ ॥ |
| bin karamaa hor firai ghanaeree || |
| Without good karma, countless others wander around. |
|
| ਮਰਿ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮੈ ਚੁਕੈ ਨ ਫੇਰੀ ॥ |
| mar mar janmai chukai n faeree || |
| They die, and die again, only to be reborn; they cannot escape the cycle of reincarnation. |
|
| ਬਿਖੁ ਕਾ ਰਾਤਾ ਬਿਖੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਨ ਕਬਹੂ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੧੩॥ |
| bikh kaa raathaa bikh kamaavai sukh n kabehoo paaeiaa ||13|| |
| Imbued with poison, they practice poison and corruption, and they never find peace. ||13|| |
|
| ਬਹੁਤੇ ਭੇਖ ਕਰੇ ਭੇਖਧਾਰੀ ॥ |
| bahuthae bhaekh karae bhaekhadhhaaree || |
| Many disguise themselves with religious robes. |
|
| ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਮਾਰੀ ॥ |
| bin sabadhai houmai kinai n maaree || |
| Without the Shabad, no one has conquered egotism. |
|
| ਜੀਵਤੁ ਮਰੈ ਤਾ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਪਾਏ ਸਚੈ ਨਾਇ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੧੪॥ |
| jeevath marai thaa mukath paaeae sachai naae samaaeiaa ||14|| |
| One who remains dead while yet alive is liberated, and merges in the True Name. ||14|| |
|
| ਤਿਸ ਦੀ ਬੂਝੈ ਜਿ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੁ ਕਮਾਏ ॥ |
| this dhee boojhai j gur sabadh kamaaeae || |
| He alone puts out this fire, who practices and lives the Guru's Shabad. |

| ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਨਿਵਾਰੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੧੫॥ |
| than man seethal krodhh nivaarae houmai maar samaaeiaa ||15|| |
| His body and mind are cooled and soothed, and his anger is silenced; conquering egotism, he merges in the Lord. ||15|| |
|
| ਸਚਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸਚੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥ |
| sachaa saahib sachee vaddiaaee || |
| True is the Lord and Master, and True is His glorious greatness. |
|
| ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਵਿਰਲੈ ਪਾਈ ॥ |
| gur parasaadhee viralai paaee || |
| By Guru's Grace, a rare few attain this. |
|
| ਨਾਨਕੁ ਏਕ ਕਹੈ ਬੇਨੰਤੀ ਨਾਮੇ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੧੬॥੧॥੨੩॥ |
| naanak eaek kehai baenanthee naamae naam samaaeiaa ||16||1||23|| |
| Nanak offers this one prayer: through the Naam, the Name of the Lord, may I merge in the Lord. ||16||1||23|| |

| Your devotees ever praise You, lovingly focusing on You. |

| ਤਉ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਉਬਰਹਿ ਕਰਤੇ ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ॥੧॥ |
| tho saranaaee oubarehi karathae aapae mael milaaeiaa ||1|| |
| In Your Sanctuary, they are saved, O Creator Lord; You unite them in Union with Yourself. ||1|| |

| ਪੂਰੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਸੁਹਾਈ ॥ |

| Sublime and exalted is devotion to the Perfect Word of the Shabad. |

| ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਤੇਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਈ ॥ |
| anthar sukh thaerai man bhaaee || |
| Peace prevails within; they are pleasing to Your Mind. |
|
| ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਸਚੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਰਾਤਾ ਸਚੇ ਸਿਉ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇਆ ॥੨॥ |
| man than sachee bhagathee raathaa sachae sio chith laaeiaa ||2|| |
| One whose mind and body are imbued with true devotion, focuses his consciousness on the True Lord. ||2|| |
|
| ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਸਦ ਜਲੈ ਸਰੀਰਾ ॥ |
| houmai vich sadh jalai sareeraa || |
| In egotism, the body is forever burning. |
|
| ਕਰਮੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਭੇਟੇ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ॥ |
| karam hovai bhaettae gur pooraa || |
| When God grants His Grace, one meets the Perfect Guru. |
|
| ਅੰਤਰਿ ਅਗਿਆਨੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਬੁਝਾਏ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੩॥ |
| anthar agiaan sabadh bujhaaeae sathigur thae sukh paaeiaa ||3|| |
| The Shabad dispels the spiritual ignorance within, and through the True Guru, one finds peace. ||3|| |
|
| ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਅੰਧਾ ਅੰਧੁ ਕਮਾਏ ॥ |
| manamukh andhhaa andhh kamaaeae || |
| The blind, self-willed manmukh acts blindly. |
|
| ਬਹੁ ਸੰਕਟ ਜੋਨੀ ਭਰਮਾਏ ॥ |
| bahu sankatt jonee bharamaaeae || |
| He is in terrible trouble, and wanders in reincarnation. |
|
| ਜਮ ਕਾ ਜੇਵੜਾ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਕਾਟੈ ਅੰਤੇ ਬਹੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੪॥ |
| jam kaa jaevarraa kadhae n kaattai anthae bahu dhukh paaeiaa ||4|| |
| He can never snap the noose of Death, and in the end, he suffers in horrible pain. ||4|| |
|
| ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣਾ ਸਬਦਿ ਨਿਵਾਰੇ ॥ |
| aavan jaanaa sabadh nivaarae || |
| Through the Shabad, one's comings and goings in reincarnation are ended. |
|
| ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਖੈ ਉਰ ਧਾਰੇ ॥ |
| sach naam rakhai our dhhaarae || |
| He keeps the True Name enshrined within his heart. |
|
| ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਰੈ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਰੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਜਾਇ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੫॥ |
| gur kai sabadh marai man maarae houmai jaae samaaeiaa ||5|| |
| He dies in the Word of the Guru's Shabad, and conquers his mind; stilling his egotism, he merges in the Lord. ||5|| |
|
| ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣੈ ਪਰਜ ਵਿਗੋਈ ॥ |
| aavan jaanai paraj vigoee || |
| Coming and going, the people of the world are wasting away. |
|
| ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਥਿਰੁ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥ |
| bin sathigur thhir koe n hoee || |
| Without the True Guru, no one finds permanence and stability. |
|
| ਅੰਤਰਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਵਸਿਆ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ॥੬॥ |
| anthar joth sabadh sukh vasiaa jothee joth milaaeiaa ||6|| |
| The Shabad shines its Light deep within the self, and one dwells in peace; one's light merges into the Light. ||6|| |

| ਪੰਚ ਦੂਤ ਚਿਤਵਹਿ ਵਿਕਾਰਾ ॥ |
| panch dhooth chithavehi vikaaraa || |
| The five demons think of evil and corruption. |
|
| ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ ਕਾ ਏਹੁ ਪਸਾਰਾ ॥ |
| maaeiaa moh kaa eaehu pasaaraa || |
| The expanse is the manifestation of emotional attachment to Maya. |
|
| ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੇ ਤਾ ਮੁਕਤੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਪੰਚ ਦੂਤ ਵਸਿ ਆਇਆ ॥੭॥ |
| sathigur saevae thaa mukath hovai panch dhooth vas aaeiaa ||7|| |
| Serving the True Guru, one is liberated, and the five demons are put under his control. ||7|| |
