| ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਵਰਤੈ ਆਪਿ ਨਿਰਾਰਾ ॥ |
| sabh mehi varathai aap niraaraa || |
| The Detached Lord is Himself prevailing in all. |

| ਵਰਨੁ ਜਾਤਿ ਚਿਹਨੁ ਨਹੀ ਕੋਈ ਸਭ ਹੁਕਮੇ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਉਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧॥ |
| varan jaath chihan nehee koee sabh hukamae srisatt oupaaeidhaa ||1|| |
| He has no race or social class, no identifying mark. By the Hukam of His Will, He created the entire universe. ||1|| |

| ਲਖ ਚਉਰਾਸੀਹ ਜੋਨਿ ਸਬਾਈ ॥ |
| lakh chouraaseeh jon sabaaee || |
| Out of all the 8.4 million species of beings, |
 |
| ਮਾਣਸ ਕਉ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਦੀਈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥ |
| maanas ko prabh dheeee vaddiaaee || |
| God blessed mankind with glory. |
 |
| ਇਸੁ ਪਉੜੀ ਤੇ ਜੋ ਨਰੁ ਚੂਕੈ ਸੋ ਆਇ ਜਾਇ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੨॥ |
| eis pourree thae jo nar chookai so aae jaae dhukh paaeidhaa ||2|| |
| That human who misses this chance, shall suffer the pains of coming and going in reincarnation. ||2|| |

| ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋਵੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਕਿਆ ਕਹੀਐ ॥ |
| keethaa hovai this kiaa keheeai || |
| What should I say, to one who has been created. |
 |
| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਲਹੀਐ ॥ |
| guramukh naam padhaarathh leheeai || |
| The Gurmukh receives the treasure of the Naam, the Name of the Lord. |
 |
| ਜਿਸੁ ਆਪਿ ਭੁਲਾਏ ਸੋਈ ਭੂਲੈ ਸੋ ਬੂਝੈ ਜਿਸਹਿ ਬੁਝਾਇਦਾ ॥੩॥ |
| jis aap bhulaaeae soee bhoolai so boojhai jisehi bujhaaeidhaa ||3|| |
| He alone is confused, whom the Lord Himself confuses. He alone understands, whom the Lord inspires to understand. ||3|| |

| ਹਰਖ ਸੋਗ ਕਾ ਨਗਰੁ ਇਹੁ ਕੀਆ ॥ |
| harakh sog kaa nagar eihu keeaa || |
| This body has been made the village of joy and sorrow. |
 |
| ਸੇ ਉਬਰੇ ਜੋ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਰਣੀਆ ॥ |
| sae oubarae jo sathigur saraneeaa || |
| They alone are emancipated, who seek the Sanctuary of the True Guru. |
 |
| ਤ੍ਰਿਹਾ ਗੁਣਾ ਤੇ ਰਹੈ ਨਿਰਾਰਾ ਸੋ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੪॥ |
| thrihaa gunaa thae rehai niraaraa so guramukh sobhaa paaeidhaa ||4|| |
| One who remains untouched by the three qualities, the three gunas - such a Gurmukh is blessed with glory. ||4|| |

| ਅਨਿਕ ਕਰਮ ਕੀਏ ਬਹੁਤੇਰੇ ॥ਜੋ ਕੀਜੈ ਸੋ ਬੰਧਨੁ ਪੈਰੇ ॥ |
| anik karam keeeae bahuthaerae || jo keejai so bandhhan pairae || |
| You can do anything, but whatever you do, only serves to tie your feet. |

| ਕੁਰੁਤਾ ਬੀਜੁ ਬੀਜੇ ਨਹੀ ਜੰਮੈ ਸਭੁ ਲਾਹਾ ਮੂਲੁ ਗਵਾਇਦਾ ॥੫॥ |
| kuruthaa beej beejae nehee janmai sabh laahaa mool gavaaeidhaa ||5|| |
| The seed which is planted out of season does not sprout, and all one's capital and profits are lost. ||5|| |

| ਕਲਜੁਗ ਮਹਿ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਪਰਧਾਨਾ ॥ |
| kalajug mehi keerathan paradhhaanaa || |
| In this Dark Age of Kali Yuga, the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises are most sublime and exalted. |

| ਆਪਿ ਤਰੈ ਸਗਲੇ ਕੁਲ ਤਾਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਗਹ ਪਤਿ ਸਿਉ ਜਾਇਦਾ ॥੬॥ |
| aap tharai sagalae kul thaarae har dharageh path sio jaaeidhaa ||6|| |
| You shall save yourself, and save all your generations as well. You shall go to the Court of the Lord with honor. ||6|| |

| ਖੰਡ ਪਤਾਲ ਦੀਪ ਸਭਿ ਲੋਆ ॥ |
| khandd pathaal dheep sabh loaa || |
| All the continents, nether worlds, islands and worlds |
 |
| ਸਭਿ ਕਾਲੈ ਵਸਿ ਆਪਿ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਕੀਆ ॥ |
| sabh kaalai vas aap prabh keeaa || |
| God Himself has made them all subject to death. |
 |
| ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਏਕੁ ਆਪਿ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਸੋ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਜੋ ਤਿਸਹਿ ਧਿਆਇਦਾ ॥੭॥ |
| nihachal eaek aap abinaasee so nihachal jo thisehi dhhiaaeidhaa ||7|| |
| The One Imperishable Lord Himself is unmoving and unchanging. Meditating on Him, one becomes unchanging. ||7|| |
 |
| ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਸੋ ਹਰਿ ਜੇਹਾ ॥ |
| har kaa saevak so har jaehaa || |
| The Lord's servant becomes like the Lord. |
 |
| ਭੇਦੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਹੁ ਮਾਣਸ ਦੇਹਾ ॥ |
| bhaedh n jaanahu maanas dhaehaa || |
| Do not think that, because of his human body, he is different. |
 |
| ਜਿਉ ਜਲ ਤਰੰਗ ਉਠਹਿ ਬਹੁ ਭਾਤੀ ਫਿਰਿ ਸਲਲੈ ਸਲਲ ਸਮਾਇਦਾ ॥੮॥ |
| jio jal tharang outhehi bahu bhaathee fir salalai salal samaaeidhaa ||8|| |
| The waves of the water rise up in various ways, and then the water merges again in water. ||8|| |
 |
| ਇਕੁ ਜਾਚਿਕੁ ਮੰਗੈ ਦਾਨੁ ਦੁਆਰੈ ॥ |
| eik jaachik mangai dhaan dhuaarai || |
| A beggar begs for charity at His Door. |
 |
| ਜਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਾ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰੈ ॥ |
| jaa prabh bhaavai thaa kirapaa dhhaarai || |
| When God pleases, He takes pity on him. |
 |
| ਦੇਹੁ ਦਰਸੁ ਜਿਤੁ ਮਨੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾਸੈ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਨਿ ਮਨੁ ਠਹਰਾਇਦਾ ॥੯॥ |
| dhaehu dharas jith man thripathaasai har keerathan man theharaaeidhaa ||9|| |
| Please bless me with the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan, to satisfy my mind, O Lord. Through the Kirtan of Your Praises, my mind is held steady. ||9|| |

| ਰੂੜੋ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਕਿਤੈ ਵਸਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ॥ |
| roorro thaakur kithai vas n aavai || |
| The Beauteous Lord and Master is not controlled in any way. |

| ਹਰਿ ਸੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰੇ ਜਿ ਹਰਿ ਕਿਆ ਸੰਤਾ ਭਾਵੈ ॥ |
| har so kishh karae j har kiaa santhaa bhaavai || |
| The Lord does that which pleases the Saints of the Lord. |
 |
| ਕੀਤਾ ਲੋੜਨਿ ਸੋਈ ਕਰਾਇਨਿ ਦਰਿ ਫੇਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੦॥ |
| keethaa lorran soee karaaein dhar faer n koee paaeidhaa ||10|| |
| He does whatever they wish to be done; nothing blocks their way at His Door. ||10|| |
 |
| ਜਿਥੈ ਅਉਘਟੁ ਆਇ ਬਨਤੁ ਹੈ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ॥ |
| jithhai aoughatt aae banath hai praanee || |
| Wherever the mortal is confronted with difficulty, |
 |
| ਤਿਥੈ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਸਾਰਿੰਗਪਾਣੀ ॥ |
| thithhai har dhhiaaeeai saaringapaanee || |
| there he should meditate on the Lord of the Universe. |
 |
| ਜਿਥੈ ਪੁਤ੍ਰੁ ਕਲਤ੍ਰੁ ਨ ਬੇਲੀ ਕੋਈ ਤਿਥੈ ਹਰਿ ਆਪਿ ਛਡਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੧॥ |
| jithhai puthra kalathra n baelee koee thithhai har aap shhaddaaeidhaa ||11|| |
| Where there are no children, spouse or friends, there the Lord Himself comes to the rescue. ||11|| |
 |
| ਵਡਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਅਗਮ ਅਥਾਹਾ ॥ |
| vaddaa saahib agam athhaahaa || |
| The Great Lord and Master is inaccessible and unfathomable. |
 |
| ਕਿਉ ਮਿਲੀਐ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹਾ ॥ |
| kio mileeai prabh vaeparavaahaa || |
| How can anyone meet with God, the self-suficient One? |
 |
| ਕਾਟਿ ਸਿਲਕ ਜਿਸੁ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਪਾਏ ਸੋ ਵਿਚਿ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਾਸਾ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੨॥ |
| kaatt silak jis maarag paaeae so vich sangath vaasaa paaeidhaa ||12|| |
| Those who have had the noose cut away from around their necks, whom God has set back upon the Path, obtain a place in the Sangat, the Congregation. ||12|| |
 |
| ਹੁਕਮੁ ਬੂਝੈ ਸੋ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਕਹੀਐ ॥ |
| hukam boojhai so saevak keheeai || |
| One who realizes the Hukam of the Lord's Command is said to be His servant. |
 |
| ਬੁਰਾ ਭਲਾ ਦੁਇ ਸਮਸਰਿ ਸਹੀਐ ॥ |
| buraa bhalaa dhue samasar seheeai || |
| He endures both bad and good equally. |
 |
| ਹਉਮੈ ਜਾਇ ਤ ਏਕੋ ਬੂਝੈ ਸੋ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੩॥ |
| houmai jaae th eaeko boojhai so guramukh sehaj samaaeidhaa ||13|| |
| When egotism is silenced, then one comes to know the One Lord. Such a Gurmukh intuitively merges in the Lord. ||13|| |
 |
| ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਭਗਤ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖਵਾਸੀ ॥ |
| har kae bhagath sadhaa sukhavaasee || |
| The devotees of the Lord dwell forever in peace. |
 |
| ਬਾਲ ਸੁਭਾਇ ਅਤੀਤ ਉਦਾਸੀ ॥ |
| baal subhaae atheeth oudhaasee || |
| With a child-like, innocent nature, they remain detached, turning away from the world. |
 |
| ਅਨਿਕ ਰੰਗ ਕਰਹਿ ਬਹੁ ਭਾਤੀ ਜਿਉ ਪਿਤਾ ਪੂਤੁ ਲਾਡਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੪॥ |
| anik rang karehi bahu bhaathee jio pithaa pooth laaddaaeidhaa ||14|| |
| They enjoy various pleasures in many ways; God caresses them, like a father caressing his son. ||14|| |
 |
| ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਈ ॥ |
| agam agochar keemath nehee paaee || |
| He is inaccessible and unfathomable; His value cannot be estimated. |
 |
| ਤਾ ਮਿਲੀਐ ਜਾ ਲਏ ਮਿਲਾਈ ॥ |
| thaa mileeai jaa leae milaaee || |
| We meet Him, only when He causes us to meet. |
 |
| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪ੍ਰਗਟੁ ਭਇਆ ਤਿਨ ਜਨ ਕਉ ਜਿਨ ਧੁਰਿ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਲੇਖੁ ਲਿਖਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੫॥ |
| guramukh pragatt bhaeiaa thin jan ko jin dhhur masathak laekh likhaaeidhaa ||15|| |
| The Lord is revealed to those humble Gurmukhs, who have such pre-ordained destiny inscribed upon their foreheads. ||15|| |

| ਤੂ ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਾਰਣ ਕਰਣਾ ॥ |
| thoo aapae karathaa kaaran karanaa || |
| You Yourself are the Creator Lord, the Cause of causes. |
 |
| ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਉਪਾਇ ਧਰੀ ਸਭ ਧਰਣਾ ॥ |
| srisatt oupaae dhharee sabh dhharanaa || |
| You created the Universe, and You support the whole earth. |
 |
| ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਸਰਣਿ ਪਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਦੁਆਰੈ ਹਰਿ ਭਾਵੈ ਲਾਜ ਰਖਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੬॥੧॥੫॥ |
| jan naanak saran paeiaa har dhuaarai har bhaavai laaj rakhaaeidhaa ||16||1||5|| |
| Servant Nanak seeks the Sanctuary of Your Door, O Lord; if it is Your Will, please preserve his honor. ||16||1||5|| |
