| sabh guroo guroo jagath bolai gur kai naae laeiai sabh shhuttak gaeiaa || |
| All the world said, "Guru! Guru! Guru!" Uttering the Guru's Name, they were all emancipated. |

| ਦੁਤੀਆ ਜਮੁਨ ਗਏ ਗੁਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਨੁ ਕੀਆ ॥੪॥ |

| Second, the Guru went to the river Jamunaa, where He chanted the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. ||4|| |

| ਤ੍ਰਿਤੀਆ ਆਏ ਸੁਰਸਰੀ ਤਹ ਕਉਤਕੁ ਚਲਤੁ ਭਇਆ ॥ |

| Third, He went to the Ganges, and a wonderful drama was played out there. |

| ਸਭ ਮੋਹੀ ਦੇਖਿ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਸੰਤ ਕਿਨੈ ਆਢੁ ਨ ਦਾਮੁ ਲਇਆ ॥ |
| sabh mohee dhaekh dharasan gur santh kinai aadt n dhaam laeiaa || |
| All were fascinated, gazing upon the Blessed Vision of the Saintly Guru's Darshan; no tax at all was imposed upon anyone. |

| ਆਢੁ ਦਾਮੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਪਇਆ ਨ ਬੋਲਕ ਜਾਗਾਤੀਆ ਮੋਹਣ ਮੁੰਦਣਿ ਪਈ ॥ |
| aadt dhaam kishh paeiaa n bolak jaagaatheeaa mohan mundhan pee || |
| No tax at all was collected, and the mouths of the tax collectors were sealed. |

| ਜਾਗਾਤੀਆ ਉਪਾਵ ਸਿਆਣਪ ਕਰਿ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ਡਿਠਾ ਭੰਨਿ ਬੋਲਕਾ ਸਭਿ ਉਠਿ ਗਇਆ ॥ |
| jaagaatheeaa oupaav siaanap kar veechaar ddithaa bhann bolakaa sabh outh gaeiaa || |
| The tax collectors were smart; they thought about it, and saw. They broke their cash-boxes and left. |

| ਤ੍ਰਿਤੀਆ ਆਏ ਸੁਰਸਰੀ ਤਹ ਕਉਤਕੁ ਚਲਤੁ ਭਇਆ ॥੫॥ |

| The important men of the city met together, and sought the Protection of the Guru, the True Guru. |

| The Guru, the True Guru, the Guru is the Lord of the Universe. Go ahead and consult the Simritees - they will confirm this. |

| ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਸਭਨੀ ਸਹੀ ਕੀਤਾ ਸੁਕਿ ਪ੍ਰਹਿਲਾਦਿ ਸ੍ਰੀਰਾਮਿ ਕਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਗੋਵਿਦੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥ |
| simrith saasathr sabhanee sehee keethaa suk prehilaadh sreeraam kar gur govidh dhhiaaeiaa || |
| The Simritees and the Shaastras all confirm that Suk Dayv and Prahlaad meditated on the Guru, the Lord of the Universe, and knew Him as the Supreme Lord. |

| ਦੇਹੀ ਨਗਰਿ ਕੋਟਿ ਪੰਚ ਚੋਰ ਵਟਵਾਰੇ ਤਿਨ ਕਾ ਥਾਉ ਥੇਹੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥ |
| dhaehee nagar kott panch chor vattavaarae thin kaa thhaao thhaehu gavaaeiaa || |
| The five thieves and the highway robbers dwell in the fortress of the body-village; the Guru has destroyed their home and place. |

| ਕੀਰਤਨ ਪੁਰਾਣ ਨਿਤ ਪੁੰਨ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਗੁਰ ਬਚਨਿ ਨਾਨਕਿ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਲਹੀ ॥ |
| keerathan puraan nith punn hovehi gur bachan naanak har bhagath lehee || |
| The Puraanas continually praise the giving of charity, but devotional worship of the Lord is only obtained through the Word of Guru Nanak. |

| Hearing the Word of Your Shabad, my mind is enraptured. |

| ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਭੀਨਾ ਜਿਉ ਜਲ ਮੀਨਾ ਲਾਗਾ ਰੰਗੁ ਮੁਰਾਰਾ ॥ |
| eihu man bheenaa jio jal meenaa laagaa rang muraaraa || |
| This mind is enraptured, like the fish in the water; it is lovingly attached to the Lord. |

| ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਹੀ ਨ ਜਾਈ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਤੇਰਾ ਮਹਲੁ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥ |
| keemath kehee n jaaee thaakur thaeraa mehal apaaraa || |
| Your Worth cannot be described, O my Lord and Master; Your Mansion is Incomparable and Unrivalled. |

| ਸਗਲ ਗੁਣਾ ਕੇ ਦਾਤੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਬਿਨਉ ਸੁਨਹੁ ਇਕ ਦੀਨਾ ॥ |
| sagal gunaa kae dhaathae suaamee bino sunahu eik dheenaa || |
| O Giver of all Virtue, O my Lord and Master, please hear the prayer of this humble person. |

| Please bless Nanak with the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan. I am a sacrifice, my soul is a sacrifice, a sacrifice to You. ||1|| |

| I am a sacrifice, every little bit, to Your Darshan. |

| ਦਰਸਨ ਤੇਰੇ ਸੁਣਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮੇਰੇ ਨਿਮਖ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਪੇਖਿ ਜੀਵਾ ॥ |
| dharasan thaerae sun prabh maerae nimakh dhrisatt paekh jeevaa || |
| Please hear me, O my Lord God; I live only by seeing Your Vision, even if only for an instant. |

| ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੁਨੀਜੈ ਤੇਰਾ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਹਿ ਤ ਪੀਵਾ ॥ |
| anmrith naam suneejai thaeraa kirapaa karehi th peevaa || |
| I have heard that Your Name is the most Ambrosial Nectar; please bless me with Your Mercy, that I may drink it in. |

| ਆਸ ਪਿਆਸੀ ਪਿਰ ਕੈ ਤਾਈ ਜਿਉ ਚਾਤ੍ਰਿਕੁ ਬੂੰਦੇਰੇ ॥ |
| aas piaasee pir kai thaaee jio chaathrik boondhaerae || |
| My hopes and desires rest in You, O my Husband Lord; like the rainbird, I long for the rain-drop. |

| ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਜੀਅੜਾ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ਦੇਹੁ ਦਰਸੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮੇਰੇ ॥੨॥ |
| kahu naanak jeearraa balihaaree dhaehu dharas prabh maerae ||2|| |
| Says Nanak, my soul is a sacrifice to You; please bless me with Your Darshan, O my Lord God. ||2|| |

| You are my True Lord and Master, O Infinite King. |

| thoo preetham piaaraa praan hith chithaa || |
| You are my Dear Beloved, so dear to my life and consciousness. |

| ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਾਤਾ ਸਗਲ ਰੰਗ ਬਨਿ ਆਏ ॥ |
| praan sukhadhaathaa guramukh jaathaa sagal rang ban aaeae || |
| You bring peace to my soul; You are known to the Gurmukh. All are blessed by Your Love. |
|
| ਸੋਈ ਕਰਮੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਜੇਹਾ ਤੂ ਫੁਰਮਾਏ ॥ |
| soee karam kamaavai praanee jaehaa thoo furamaaeae || |
| The mortal does only those deeds which You ordain, Lord. |
|
| ਜਾ ਕਉ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੀ ਜਗਦੀਸੁਰਿ ਤਿਨਿ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਮਨੁ ਜਿਤਾ ॥ |
| jaa ko kirapaa karee jagadheesur thin saadhhasang man jithaa || |
| One who is blessed by Your Grace, O Lord of the Universe, conquers his mind in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. |

| ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਜੀਅੜਾ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਤਉ ਦਿਤਾ ॥੩॥ |

| Says Nanak, my soul is a sacrifice to You; You gave me my soul and body. ||3|| |

| ਨਿਰਗੁਣੁ ਰਾਖਿ ਲੀਆ ਸੰਤਨ ਕਾ ਸਦਕਾ ॥ |
| niragun raakh leeaa santhan kaa sadhakaa || |
| I am unworthy, but He has saved me, for the sake of the Saints. |

| ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਢਾਕਿ ਲੀਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਪਾਪੀ ਪੜਦਾ ॥ |
| sathigur dtaak leeaa mohi paapee parradhaa || |
| The True Guru has covered by faults; I am such a sinner. |

| ਢਾਕਨਹਾਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹਮਾਰੇ ਜੀਅ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਸੁਖਦਾਤੇ ॥ |

| God has covered for me; He is the Giver of the soul, life and peace. |

| ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਅਬਿਗਤ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਪੂਰਨ ਪੁਰਖ ਬਿਧਾਤੇ ॥ |
| abinaasee abigath suaamee pooran purakh bidhhaathae || |
| My Lord and Master is Eternal and Unchanging, Ever-present; He is the Perfect Creator, the Architect of Destiny. |

| The Inaccessible, Unfathomable Lord cannot be seen; meeting with the Perfect Guru, He is seen. ||Pause|| |

| ਜਿਸੁ ਆਪੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਤਿਸੁ ਜਨ ਕਉ ਹਰਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਵੀਐ ਰੇ ॥ |
| jis aapae kirapaa karae maeraa suaamee this jan ko har liv laaveeai rae || |
| That person, upon whom my Lord and Master showers His Mercy - the Lord attunes that one to Himself. |

| ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਕੇਰੀ ਹਰਿ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਥਾਇ ਪਾਵੀਐ ਰੇ ॥੧॥ |
| sabh ko bhagath karae har kaeree har bhaavai so thhaae paaveeai rae ||1|| |
| Everyone worships the Lord, but only that person who is pleasing to the Lord is accepted. ||1|| |
|
| ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਮੋਲਕੁ ਹਰਿ ਪਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਦੇਵੈ ਤਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਵੀਐ ਰੇ ॥ |
| har har naam amolak har pehi har dhaevai thaa naam dhhiaaveeai rae || |
| The Name of the Lord, Har, Har, is priceless. It rests with the Lord. If the Lord bestows it, then we meditate on the Naam. |

| ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੇਇ ਮੇਰਾ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਤਿਸੁ ਲੇਖਾ ਸਭੁ ਛਡਾਵੀਐ ਰੇ ॥੨॥ |
| jis no naam dhaee maeraa suaamee this laekhaa sabh shhaddaaveeai rae ||2|| |
| That person, whom my Lord and Master blesses with His Name - his entire account is forgiven. ||2|| |
|
| ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਰਾਧਹਿ ਸੇ ਧੰਨੁ ਜਨ ਕਹੀਅਹਿ ਤਿਨ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਭਾਗੁ ਧੁਰਿ ਲਿਖਿ ਪਾਵੀਐ ਰੇ ॥ |
| har naam araadhhehi sae dhhann jan keheeahi thin masathak bhaag dhhur likh paaveeai rae || |
| Those humble beings who worship and adore the Lord's Name, are said to be blessed. Such is the good destiny written on their foreheads. |

| ਤਿਨ ਦੇਖੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਬਿਗਸੈ ਜਿਉ ਸੁਤੁ ਮਿਲਿ ਮਾਤ ਗਲਿ ਲਾਵੀਐ ਰੇ ॥੩॥ |
| thin dhaekhae maeraa man bigasai jio suth mil maath gal laaveeai rae ||3|| |
| Gazing upon them, my mind blossoms forth, like the mother who meets with her son and hugs him close. ||3|| |

| ਹਮ ਬਾਰਿਕ ਹਰਿ ਪਿਤਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮੇਰੇ ਮੋ ਕਉ ਦੇਹੁ ਮਤੀ ਜਿਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਵੀਐ ਰੇ ॥ |
| ham baarik har pithaa prabh maerae mo ko dhaehu mathee jith har paaveeai rae || |
| I am a child, and You, O my Lord God, are my Father; please bless me with such understanding, that I may find the Lord. |

| ਜਿਉ ਬਛੁਰਾ ਦੇਖਿ ਗਊ ਸੁਖੁ ਮਾਨੈ ਤਿਉ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਗਲਿ ਲਾਵੀਐ ਰੇ ॥੪॥੧॥ |

| Like the cow, which is happy upon seeing her calf, O Lord, please hug Nanak close in Your Embrace. ||4||1|| |
