| ਹਉਮੈ ਮਮਤਾ ਸਬਦੇ ਖੋਵੈ ॥ |

| The Word of the Shabad eradicates egotism and possessiveness. |

| ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਸਚਾ ਸੇਵੀ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੬॥ |
| anadhin har jeeo sachaa saevee poorai bhaag gur paavaniaa ||6|| |
| So serve the Dear True Lord, night and day. By perfect good destiny, the Guru is found. ||6|| |
|
| ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥ |
| aapae bakhasae mael milaaeae || |
| He Himself forgives and unites in His Union. |
|
| ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਿ ਪਾਏ ॥ |
| poorae gur thae naam nidhh paaeae || |
| From the Perfect Guru, the Treasure of the Naam is obtained. |

| ਸਚੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਦਾ ਮਨੁ ਸਚਾ ਸਚੁ ਸੇਵੇ ਦੁਖੁ ਗਵਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ |
| sachai naam sadhaa man sachaa sach saevae dhukh gavaavaniaa ||7|| |
| By the True Name, the mind is made true forever. Serving the True Lord, sorrow is driven out. ||7|| |
|
| ਸਦਾ ਹਜੂਰਿ ਦੂਰਿ ਨ ਜਾਣਹੁ ॥ |
| sadhaa hajoor dhoor n jaanahu || |
| He is always close at hand-do not think that He is far away. |
|
| ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਹਰਿ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਪਛਾਣਹੁ ॥ |
| gur sabadhee har anthar pashhaanahu || |
| Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, recognize the Lord deep within your own being. |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੮॥੧੧॥੧੨॥ |
| naanak naam milai vaddiaaee poorae gur thae paavaniaa ||8||11||12|| |
| O Nanak, through the Naam, glorious greatness is received. Through the Perfect Guru, the Naam is obtained. ||8||11||12|| |

| ਐਥੈ ਸਾਚੇ ਸੁ ਆਗੈ ਸਾਚੇ ॥ |

| Those who are True here, are True hereafter as well. |

| ਮਨੁ ਸਚਾ ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਾਚੇ ॥ |
| man sachaa sachai sabadh raachae || |
| That mind is true, which is attuned to the True Shabad. |
|
| ਸਚਾ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਸਚੁ ਕਮਾਵਹਿ ਸਚੋ ਸਚੁ ਕਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ |
| sachaa saevehi sach kamaavehi sacho sach kamaavaniaa ||1|| |
| They serve the True One, and practice Truth; they earn Truth, and only Truth. ||1|| |
|
| ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਸਚਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਵਣਿਆ ॥ |
| ho vaaree jeeo vaaree sachaa naam mann vasaavaniaa || |
| I am a sacrifice, my soul is a sacrifice, to those whose minds are filled with the True Name. |

| ਸਚੇ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਵਹਿ ਸਚੇ ਕੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| sachae saevehi sach samaavehi sachae kae gun gaavaniaa ||1|| rehaao || |
| They serve the True One, and are absorbed into the True One, singing the Glorious Praises of the True One. ||1||Pause|| |
|
| ਪੰਡਿਤ ਪੜਹਿ ਸਾਦੁ ਨ ਪਾਵਹਿ ॥ |
| panddith parrehi saadh n paavehi || |
| The Pandits, the religious scholars read, but they do not taste the essence. |
|
| ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਮਾਇਆ ਮਨੁ ਭਰਮਾਵਹਿ ॥ |
| dhoojai bhaae maaeiaa man bharamaavehi || |
| In love with duality and Maya, their minds wander, unfocused. |
|
| ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਸਭ ਸੁਧਿ ਗਵਾਈ ਕਰਿ ਅਵਗਣ ਪਛੋਤਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੨॥ |
| maaeiaa mohi sabh sudhh gavaaee kar avagan pashhothaavaniaa ||2|| |
| The love of Maya has displaced all their understanding; making mistakes, they live in regret. ||2|| |
|
| ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਤਾ ਤਤੁ ਪਾਏ ॥ |
| sathigur milai thaa thath paaeae || |
| But if they should meet the True Guru, then they obtain the essence of reality; |
|
| ਸਬਦਿ ਮਰੈ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਰੈ ਅਪੁਨਾ ਮੁਕਤੀ ਕਾ ਦਰੁ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੩॥ |
| sabadh marai man maarai apunaa mukathee kaa dhar paavaniaa ||3|| |
| Those who die in the Shabad and subdue their own minds, obtain the door of liberation. ||3|| |
|
| ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਕਾਟੈ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਨਿਵਾਰੇ ॥ |
| kilavikh kaattai krodhh nivaarae || |
| They erase their sins, and eliminate their anger; |
|
| ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਰਖੈ ਉਰ ਧਾਰੇ ॥ |
| gur kaa sabadh rakhai our dhhaarae || |
| they keep the Guru's Shabad clasped tightly to their hearts. |
|
| ਸਚਿ ਰਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੪॥ |
| sach rathae sadhaa bairaagee houmai maar milaavaniaa ||4|| |
| Those who are attuned to Truth, remain balanced and detached forever. Subduing their egotism, they are united with the Lord. ||4|| |
|
| ਅੰਤਰਿ ਰਤਨੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ॥ |
| anthar rathan milai milaaeiaa || |
| Deep within the nucleus of the self is the jewel; we receive it only if the Lord inspires us to receive it. |
|
| ਤ੍ਰਿਬਿਧਿ ਮਨਸਾ ਤ੍ਰਿਬਿਧਿ ਮਾਇਆ ॥ |
| thribidhh manasaa thribidhh maaeiaa || |
| The mind is bound by the three dispositions-the three modes of Maya. |
|
| ਪੜਿ ਪੜਿ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਮੋਨੀ ਥਕੇ ਚਉਥੇ ਪਦ ਕੀ ਸਾਰ ਨ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥ |
| parr parr panddith monee thhakae chouthhae padh kee saar n paavaniaa ||5|| |
| Reading and reciting, the Pandits, the religious scholars, and the silent sages have grown weary, but they have not found the supreme essence of the fourth state. ||5|| |
|
| ਆਪੇ ਰੰਗੇ ਰੰਗੁ ਚੜਾਏ ॥ |
| aapae rangae rang charraaeae || |
| The Lord Himself dyes us in the color of His Love. |
|
| ਸੇ ਜਨ ਰਾਤੇ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਰੰਗਾਏ ॥ |
| sae jan raathae gur sabadh rangaaeae || |
| Only those who are steeped in the Word of the Guru's Shabad are so imbued with His Love. |
|
| ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗੁ ਚੜਿਆ ਅਤਿ ਅਪਾਰਾ ਹਰਿ ਰਸਿ ਰਸਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੬॥ |
| har rang charriaa ath apaaraa har ras ras gun gaavaniaa ||6|| |
| Imbued with the most beautiful color of the Lord's Love, they sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, with great pleasure and joy. ||6|| |
|
| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਰਿਧਿ ਸਿਧਿ ਸਚੁ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਸੋਈ ॥ |
| guramukh ridhh sidhh sach sanjam soee || |
| To the Gurmukh, the True Lord is wealth, miraculous spiritual powers and strict self-discipline. |

| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਨਾਮਿ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਹੋਈ ॥ |
| guramukh giaan naam mukath hoee || |
| Through the spiritual wisdom of the Naam, the Name of the Lord, the Gurmukh is liberated. |

| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕਾਰ ਸਚੁ ਕਮਾਵਹਿ ਸਚੇ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ |
| guramukh kaar sach kamaavehi sachae sach samaavaniaa ||7|| |
| The Gurmukh practices Truth, and is absorbed in the Truest of the True. ||7|| |
|
| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਥਾਪੇ ਥਾਪਿ ਉਥਾਪੇ ॥ |
| guramukh thhaapae thhaap outhhaapae || |
| The Gurmukh realizes that the Lord alone creates, and having created, He destroys. |
|
| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਾਤਿ ਪਤਿ ਸਭੁ ਆਪੇ ॥ |
| guramukh jaath path sabh aapae || |
| To the Gurmukh, the Lord Himself is social class, status and all honor. |
|
| ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਏ ਨਾਮੇ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੮॥੧੨॥੧੩॥ |
| naanak guramukh naam dhhiaaeae naamae naam samaavaniaa ||8||12||13|| |
| O Nanak, the Gurmukhs meditate on the Naam; through the Naam, they merge in the Naam. ||8||12||13|| |

| Creation and destruction happen through the Word of the Shabad. |

| ਸਬਦੇ ਹੀ ਫਿਰਿ ਓਪਤਿ ਹੋਵੈ ॥ |
| sabadhae hee fir oupath hovai || |
| Through the Shabad, creation happens again. |
|
| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਰਤੈ ਸਭੁ ਆਪੇ ਸਚਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਉਪਾਇ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ |
| guramukh varathai sabh aapae sachaa guramukh oupaae samaavaniaa ||1|| |
| The Gurmukh knows that the True Lord is all-pervading. The Gurmukh understands creation and merger. ||1|| |
|
| ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਵਣਿਆ ॥ |
| ho vaaree jeeo vaaree gur pooraa mann vasaavaniaa || |
| I am a sacrifice, my soul is a sacrifice, to those who enshrine the Perfect Guru within their minds. |

| ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਸਾਤਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਗੁਣ ਕਹਿ ਗੁਣੀ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| gur thae saath bhagath karae dhin raathee gun kehi gunee samaavaniaa ||1|| rehaao || |
| From the Guru comes peace and tranquility; worship Him with devotion, day and night. Chanting His Glorious Praises, merge into the Glorious Lord. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਧਰਤੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਣੀ ॥ |
| guramukh dhharathee guramukh paanee || |
| The Gurmukh sees the Lord on the earth, and the Gurmukh sees Him in the water. |
|
| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਵਣੁ ਬੈਸੰਤਰੁ ਖੇਲੈ ਵਿਡਾਣੀ ॥ |
| guramukh pavan baisanthar khaelai viddaanee || |
| The Gurmukh sees Him in wind and fire; such is the wonder of His Play. |

| ਸੋ ਨਿਗੁਰਾ ਜੋ ਮਰਿ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮੈ ਨਿਗੁਰੇ ਆਵਣ ਜਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੨॥ |
| so niguraa jo mar mar janmai nigurae aavan jaavaniaa ||2|| |
| One who has no Guru, dies over and over again, only to be re-born. One who has no Guru continues coming and going in reincarnation. ||2|| |
|
| ਤਿਨਿ ਕਰਤੈ ਇਕੁ ਖੇਲੁ ਰਚਾਇਆ ॥ |
| thin karathai eik khael rachaaeiaa || |
| The One Creator has set this play in motion. |
|
| ਕਾਇਆ ਸਰੀਰੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ |
| kaaeiaa sareerai vich sabh kishh paaeiaa || |
| In the frame of the human body, He has placed all things. |
|
| ਸਬਦਿ ਭੇਦਿ ਕੋਈ ਮਹਲੁ ਪਾਏ ਮਹਲੇ ਮਹਲਿ ਬੁਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੩॥ |
| sabadh bhaedh koee mehal paaeae mehalae mehal bulaavaniaa ||3|| |
| Those few who are pierced through by the Word of the Shabad, obtain the Mansion of the Lord's Presence. He calls them into His Wondrous Palace. ||3|| |
|
| ਸਚਾ ਸਾਹੁ ਸਚੇ ਵਣਜਾਰੇ ॥ |
| sachaa saahu sachae vanajaarae || |
| True is the Banker, and true are His traders. |
|
| ਸਚੁ ਵਣੰਜਹਿ ਗੁਰ ਹੇਤਿ ਅਪਾਰੇ ॥ |
| sach vananjehi gur haeth apaarae || |
| They purchase Truth, with infinite love for the Guru. |
|
| ਸਚੁ ਵਿਹਾਝਹਿ ਸਚੁ ਕਮਾਵਹਿ ਸਚੋ ਸਚੁ ਕਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੪॥ |
| sach vihaajhehi sach kamaavehi sacho sach kamaavaniaa ||4|| |
| They deal in Truth, and they practice Truth. They earn Truth, and only Truth. ||4|| |
|
| ਬਿਨੁ ਰਾਸੀ ਕੋ ਵਥੁ ਕਿਉ ਪਾਏ ॥ |
| bin raasee ko vathh kio paaeae || |
| Without investment capital, how can anyone acquire merchandise? |
