| ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਨ ਭਾਲਹਿ ਸੋਇ ॥ |

| That humble being who seeks the Lord's Name |

| ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥੨॥ |
| poorae gur thae praapath hoe ||2|| |
| receives it from the Perfect Guru. ||2|| |

| ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਭਾਣਾ ਮੰਨਹਿ ਸੇ ਜਨ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥ |
| har kaa bhaanaa mannehi sae jan paravaan || |
| Those humble beings who accept the Will of the Lord, are approved and accepted. |
|
| ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਨਾਮ ਨੀਸਾਣੁ ॥੩॥ |
| gur kai sabadh naam neesaan ||3|| |
| Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, they bear the insignia of the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||3|| |
|
| ਸੋ ਸੇਵਹੁ ਜੋ ਕਲ ਰਹਿਆ ਧਾਰਿ ॥ |
| so saevahu jo kal rehiaa dhhaar || |
| So serve the One, whose power supports the Universe. |
|
| ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਿਆਰਿ ॥੪॥੯॥ |

| O Nanak, the Gurmukh loves the Naam. ||4||9|| |

| kalajug mehi bahu karam kamaahi || |
| In this Dark Age of Kali Yuga, many rituals are performed. |
|
| ਨਾ ਰੁਤਿ ਨ ਕਰਮ ਥਾਇ ਪਾਹਿ ॥੧॥ |
| naa ruth n karam thhaae paahi ||1|| |
| But it is not the time for them, and so they are of no use. ||1|| |
|
| ਕਲਜੁਗ ਮਹਿ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਹੈ ਸਾਰੁ ॥ |
| kalajug mehi raam naam hai saar || |
| In Kali Yuga, the Lord's Name is the most sublime. |
|
| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਾਚਾ ਲਗੈ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| guramukh saachaa lagai piaar ||1|| rehaao || |
| As Gurmukh, be lovingly attached to Truth. ||1||Pause|| |
|
| ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਖੋਜਿ ਘਰੈ ਮਹਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ |
| than man khoj gharai mehi paaeiaa || |
| Searching my body and mind, I found Him within the home of my own heart. |
|
| ਗਿਆਨ ਅੰਜਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਹੋਇ ॥ |
| giaan anjan sathigur thae hoe || |
| The ointment of spiritual wisdom is obtained from the True Guru. |
|
| ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਤਿਹੁ ਲੋਇ ॥੩॥ |
| raam naam rav rehiaa thihu loe ||3|| |
| The Lord's Name is pervading the three worlds. ||3|| |
|
| ਕਲਿਜੁਗ ਮਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਏਕੁ ਹੋਰ ਰੁਤਿ ਨ ਕਾਈ ॥ |
| kalijug mehi har jeeo eaek hor ruth n kaaee || |
| In Kali Yuga, it is the time for the One Dear Lord; it is not the time for anything else. |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਲੇਹੁ ਜਮਾਈ ॥੪॥੧੦॥ |
| naanak guramukh hiradhai raam naam laehu jamaaee ||4||10|| |
| O Nanak, as Gurmukh, let the Lord's Name grow within your heart. ||4||10|| |

| ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਰੋਗਿ ਵਿਆਪੇ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਜਲਹਿ ਅਧਿਕਾਈ ॥ |
| dhubidhhaa manamukh rog viaapae thrisanaa jalehi adhhikaaee || |
| The self-willed manmukhs are afflicted with the disease of duality; they are burnt by the intense fire of desire. |
|
| ਮਰਿ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮਹਿ ਠਉਰ ਨ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਈ ॥੧॥ |
| mar mar janmehi thour n paavehi birathhaa janam gavaaee ||1|| |
| They die and die again, and are reborn; they find no place of rest. They waste their lives uselessly. ||1|| |
|
| ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਦੇਹੁ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥ |
| maerae preetham kar kirapaa dhaehu bujhaaee || |
| O my Beloved, grant Your Grace, and give me understanding. |

| ਹਉਮੈ ਰੋਗੀ ਜਗਤੁ ਉਪਾਇਆ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਰੋਗੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| houmai rogee jagath oupaaeiaa bin sabadhai rog n jaaee ||1|| rehaao || |
| The world was created in the disease of egotism; without the Word of the Shabad, the disease is not cured. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਪੜਹਿ ਮੁਨਿ ਕੇਤੇ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥ |
| sinmrith saasathr parrehi mun kaethae bin sabadhai surath n paaee || |
| There are so many silent sages, who read the Simritees and the Shaastras; without the Shabad, they have no clear awareness. |

| ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਸਭੇ ਰੋਗਿ ਵਿਆਪੇ ਮਮਤਾ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਗਵਾਈ ॥੨॥ |
| thrai gun sabhae rog viaapae mamathaa surath gavaaee ||2|| |
| All those under the influence of the three qualities are afflicted with the disease; through possessiveness, they lose their awareness. ||2|| |
|
| ਇਕਿ ਆਪੇ ਕਾਢਿ ਲਏ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਆਪੇ ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਲਾਏ ॥ |
| eik aapae kaadt leae prabh aapae gur saevaa prabh laaeae || |
| O God, you save some, and you enjoin others to serve the Guru. |
|
| ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੋ ਪਾਇਆ ਸੁਖੁ ਵਸਿਆ ਮਨਿ ਆਏ ॥੩॥ |
| har kaa naam nidhhaano paaeiaa sukh vasiaa man aae ||3|| |
| They obtain the treasure of the Name of the Lord; peace comes to abide within their minds. ||3|| |
|
| ਚਉਥੀ ਪਦਵੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਰਤਹਿ ਤਿਨ ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਵਾਸਾ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ |
| chouthhee padhavee guramukh varathehi thin nij ghar vaasaa paaeiaa || |
| The Gurmukhs dwell in the fourth state; they obtain a dwelling in the home of their own inner being. |
|
| ਪੂਰੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕੀਨੀ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥੪॥ |
| poorai sathigur kirapaa keenee vichahu aap gavaaeiaa ||4|| |
| The Perfect True Guru shows His Mercy to them; they eradicate their self-conceit from within. ||4|| |
|
| ਏਕਸੁ ਕੀ ਸਿਰਿ ਕਾਰ ਏਕ ਜਿਨਿ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਬਿਸਨੁ ਰੁਦ੍ਰੁ ਉਪਾਇਆ ॥ |
| eaekas kee sir kaar eaek jin brehamaa bisan rudhra oupaaeiaa || |
| Everyone must serve the One Lord, who created Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. |
|
| ਨਾਨਕ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਏਕੋ ਨਾ ਓਹੁ ਮਰੈ ਨ ਜਾਇਆ ॥੫॥੧॥੧੧॥ |
| naanak nihachal saachaa eaeko naa ouhu marai n jaaeiaa ||5||1||11|| |
| O Nanak, the One True Lord is permanent and stable. He does not die, and He is not born. ||5||1||11|| |

| manamukh dhubidhhaa sadhaa hai rogee rogee sagal sansaaraa || |
| The self-willed manmukh is afflicted with the disease of duality forever; the entire universe is diseased. |

| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬੂਝਹਿ ਰੋਗੁ ਗਵਾਵਹਿ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਵੀਚਾਰਾ ॥੧॥ |
| guramukh boojhehi rog gavaavehi gur sabadhee veechaaraa ||1|| |
| The Gurmukh understands, and is cured of the disease, contemplating the Word of the Guru's Shabad. ||1|| |

| ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਮੇਲਾਇ ॥ |
| har jeeo sathasangath maelaae || |
| O Dear Lord, please let me join the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation. |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਸ ਨੋ ਦੇਇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਜੋ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮਿ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| naanak this no dhaee vaddiaaee jo raam naam chith laae ||1|| rehaao || |
| O Nanak, the Lord blesses with glorious greatness, those who focus their consciousness on the Lord's Name. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਮਮਤਾ ਕਾਲਿ ਸਭਿ ਰੋਗਿ ਵਿਆਪੇ ਤਿਨ ਜਮ ਕੀ ਹੈ ਸਿਰਿ ਕਾਰਾ ॥ |
| mamathaa kaal sabh rog viaapae thin jam kee hai sir kaaraa || |
| Death takes all those who are afflicted with the disease of possessiveness. They are subject to the Messenger of Death. |
|
| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਜਮੁ ਨੇੜਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਜਿਨ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਖਿਆ ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰਾ ॥੨॥ |
| guramukh praanee jam naerr n aavai jin har raakhiaa our dhhaaraa ||2|| |
| The Messenger of Death does not even approach that mortal who, as Gurmukh, enshrines the Lord within his heart. ||2|| |
|
| ਜਿਨ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਾਤਾ ਸੇ ਜਗ ਮਹਿ ਕਾਹੇ ਆਇਆ ॥ |
| jin har kaa naam n guramukh jaathaa sae jag mehi kaahae aaeiaa || |
| One who does not know the Lord's Name, and who does not become Gurmukh - why did he even come into the world? |
|
| ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਕੀਨੀ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥੩॥ |
| gur kee saevaa kadhae n keenee birathhaa janam gavaaeiaa ||3|| |
| He never serves the Guru; he wastes his life uselessly. ||3|| |
|
| ਨਾਨਕ ਸੇ ਪੂਰੇ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਲਾਏ ॥ |
| naanak sae poorae vaddabhaagee sathigur saevaa laaeae || |
| O Nanak, those whom the True Guru enjoins to His service, have perfect good fortune. |

| ਜੋ ਇਛਹਿ ਸੋਈ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ॥੪॥੨॥੧੨॥ |
| jo eishhehi soee fal paavehi gurabaanee sukh paaeae ||4||2||12|| |
| They obtain the fruits of their desires, and find peace in the Word of the Guru's Bani. ||4||2||12|| |

| dhukh vich janmai dhukh marai dhukh vich kaar kamaae || |
| In pain he is born, in pain he dies, and in pain he does his deeds. |

| ਗਰਭ ਜੋਨੀ ਵਿਚਿ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਨਿਕਲੈ ਬਿਸਟਾ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੧॥ |
| garabh jonee vich kadhae n nikalai bisattaa maahi samaae ||1|| |
| He is never released from the womb of reincarnation; he rots away in manure. ||1|| |
|
| ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥ |
| dhhrig dhhrig manamukh janam gavaaeiaa || |
| Cursed, cursed is the self-willed manmukh, who wastes his life away. |

| ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵ ਨ ਕੀਨੀ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਭਾਇਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |

| He does not serve the Perfect Guru; he does not love the Name of the Lord. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਨਾਮੇ ਨਾਮਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਏ ॥੨॥ |
| naamae naam milai vaddiaaee jis no mann vasaaeae ||2|| |
| Through the Naam, glorious greatness is obtained; he alone obtains it, whose mind is filled with the Lord. ||2|| |
|
| ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟੈ ਤਾ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਏ ਸਚੁ ਕਰਣੀ ਸੁਖ ਸਾਰੁ ॥ |
| sathigur bhaettai thaa fal paaeae sach karanee sukh saar || |
| Meeting the True Guru, the fruitful rewards are obtained. This true lifestyle beings sublime peace. |

| ਸੇ ਜਨ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਲਾਗੇ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੇ ਧਰਹਿ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥੩॥ |
| sae jan niramal jo har laagae har naamae dhharehi piaar ||3|| |
| Those humble beings who are attached to the Lord are immaculate; they enshrine love for the Lord's Name. ||3|| |
|
| ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਰੇਣੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਤਾਂ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਲਾਈ ਜਿਨ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥ |
| thin kee raen milai thaan masathak laaee jin sathigur pooraa dhhiaaeiaa || |
| If I obtain the dust of their feet, I apply it to my forehead. They meditate on the Perfect True Guru. |
