| ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਉਧਾਰੁ ॥ |

| In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, I am saved. |

| sobhaa paavai prabh kai dhuaar ||2|| |
| I am blessed with honor in God's Court. ||2|| |

| ਸਰਬ ਕਲਿਆਣ ਚਰਣ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸੇਵਾ ॥ |
| sarab kaliaan charan prabh saevaa || |
| Serving at God's Feet, all comforts are obtained. |
|
| ਧੂਰਿ ਬਾਛਹਿ ਸਭਿ ਸੁਰਿ ਨਰ ਦੇਵਾ ॥੩॥ |
| dhhoor baashhehi sabh sur nar dhaevaa ||3|| |
| All the angels and demi-gods long for the dust of the feet of such beings. ||3|| |
|
| ਨਾਨਕ ਪਾਇਆ ਨਾਮ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ॥ |
| naanak paaeiaa naam nidhhaan || |
| Nanak has obtained the treasure of the Naam. |
|
| ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿ ਜਪਿ ਉਧਰਿਆ ਸਗਲ ਜਹਾਨੁ ॥੪॥੧੨॥ |
| har jap jap oudhhariaa sagal jehaan ||4||12|| |
| Chanting and meditating on the Lord, the whole world is saved. ||4||12|| |

| ਅਪਣੇ ਦਾਸ ਕਉ ਕੰਠਿ ਲਗਾਵੈ ॥ |
| apanae dhaas ko kanth lagaavai || |
| God hugs His slave close in His Embrace. |

| ਨਿੰਦਕ ਕਉ ਅਗਨਿ ਮਹਿ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੧॥ |
| nindhak ko agan mehi paavai ||1|| |
| He throws the slanderer into the fire. ||1|| |
|
| ਪਾਪੀ ਤੇ ਰਾਖੇ ਨਾਰਾਇਣ ॥ |
| paapee thae raakhae naaraaein || |
| The Lord saves His servants from the sinners. |

| ਪਾਪੀ ਕੀ ਗਤਿ ਕਤਹੂ ਨਾਹੀ ਪਾਪੀ ਪਚਿਆ ਆਪ ਕਮਾਇਣ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| paapee kee gath kathehoo naahee paapee pachiaa aap kamaaein ||1|| rehaao || |
| No one can save the sinner. The sinner is destroyed by his own actions. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਦਾਸ ਰਾਮ ਜੀਉ ਲਾਗੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ॥ |
| dhaas raam jeeo laagee preeth || |
| The Lord's slave is in love with the Dear Lord. |
|
| ਨਿੰਦਕ ਕੀ ਹੋਈ ਬਿਪਰੀਤਿ ॥੨॥ |
| nindhak kee hoee bipareeth ||2|| |
| The slanderer loves something else. ||2|| |
|
| ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮਿ ਅਪਣਾ ਬਿਰਦੁ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਾਇਆ ॥ |
| paarabreham apanaa biradh pragattaaeiaa || |
| The Supreme Lord God has revealed His Innate Nature. |
|
| ਦੋਖੀ ਅਪਣਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੩॥ |
| dhokhee apanaa keethaa paaeiaa ||3|| |
| The evil-doer obtains the fruits of his own actions. ||3|| |
|
| ਆਇ ਨ ਜਾਈ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਈ ॥ |

| God does not come or go; He is All-pervading and permeating. |

| The Fascinating Lord, the Creator of all, the Formless Lord, is the Giver of Peace. |

| ਐਸਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਛੋਡਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਅਨ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਵਨ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਰਸ ਮਾਤਾ ॥੧॥ |
| aisaa prabh shhodd karehi an saevaa kavan bikhiaa ras maathaa ||1|| |
| You have abandoned this Lord, and you serve another. Why are you intoxicated with the pleasures of corruption? ||1|| |
|
| ਰੇ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਤੂ ਗੋਵਿਦ ਭਾਜੁ ॥ |
| rae man maerae thoo govidh bhaaj || |
| O my mind, meditate on the Lord of the Universe. |

| ਅਵਰ ਉਪਾਵ ਸਗਲ ਮੈ ਦੇਖੇ ਜੋ ਚਿਤਵੀਐ ਤਿਤੁ ਬਿਗਰਸਿ ਕਾਜੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| avar oupaav sagal mai dhaekhae jo chithaveeai thith bigaras kaaj ||1|| rehaao || |
| I have seen all other sorts of efforts; whatever you can think of, will only bring failure. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਛੋਡਿ ਦਾਸੀ ਕਉ ਸਿਮਰਹਿ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਅੰਧ ਅਗਿਆਨਾ ॥ |
| thaakur shhodd dhaasee ko simarehi manamukh andhh agiaanaa || |
| The blind, ignorant, self-willed manmukhs forsake their Lord and Master, and dwell on His slave Maya. |

| ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਤਿਨ ਨਿੰਦਹਿ ਨਿਗੁਰੇ ਪਸੂ ਸਮਾਨਾ ॥੨॥ |
| har kee bhagath karehi thin nindhehi nigurae pasoo samaanaa ||2|| |
| They slander those who worship their Lord; they are like beasts, without a Guru. ||2|| |
|
| ਅਹੰਬੁਧਿ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਹੈ ਮੈਲੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਭਵਜਲਿ ਫੇਰਾ ॥੩॥ |
| ahanbudhh dhuramath hai mailee bin gur bhavajal faeraa ||3|| |
| They are proud and arrogant, evil-minded and filthy; without the Guru, they are reincarnated into the terrifying world-ocean. ||3|| |
|
| ਹੋਮ ਜਗ ਜਪ ਤਪ ਸਭਿ ਸੰਜਮ ਤਟਿ ਤੀਰਥਿ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ |
| hom jag jap thap sabh sanjam thatt theerathh nehee paaeiaa || |
| Through burnt offerings, charitable feasts, ritualistic chants, penance, all sorts of austere self-discipline and pilgrimages to sacred shrines and rivers, they do not find God. |

| ਮਿਟਿਆ ਆਪੁ ਪਏ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਗਤੁ ਤਰਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੧॥੧੪॥ |
| mittiaa aap peae saranaaee guramukh naanak jagath tharaaeiaa ||4||1||14|| |
| Self-conceit is only erased when one seeks the Lord's Sanctuary and becomes Gurmukh; O Nanak, he crosses over the world-ocean. ||4||1||14|| |

| ਬਨ ਮਹਿ ਪੇਖਿਓ ਤ੍ਰਿਣ ਮਹਿ ਪੇਖਿਓ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਿ ਪੇਖਿਓ ਉਦਾਸਾਏ ॥ |
| ban mehi paekhiou thrin mehi paekhiou grihi paekhiou oudhaasaaeae || |
| I have seen Him in the woods, and I have seen Him in the fields. I have seen Him in the household, and in renunciation. |

| ਦੰਡਧਾਰ ਜਟਧਾਰੈ ਪੇਖਿਓ ਵਰਤ ਨੇਮ ਤੀਰਥਾਏ ॥੧॥ |
| dhanddadhhaar jattadhhaarai paekhiou varath naem theerathhaaeae ||1|| |
| I have seen Him as a Yogi carrying His staff, as a Yogi with matted hair, fasting, making vows, and visiting sacred shrines of pilgrimage. ||1|| |
|
| ਸੰਤਸੰਗਿ ਪੇਖਿਓ ਮਨ ਮਾਏਂ ॥ |
| santhasang paekhiou man maaeaen || |
| I have seen Him in the Society of the Saints, and within my own mind. |
|
| ਊਭ ਪਇਆਲ ਸਰਬ ਮਹਿ ਪੂਰਨ ਰਸਿ ਮੰਗਲ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਏ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| oobh paeiaal sarab mehi pooran ras mangal gun gaaeae ||1|| rehaao || |
| In the sky, in the nether regions of the underworld, and in everything, He is pervading and permeating. With love and joy, I sing His Glorious Praises. ||1||Pause|| |
|
| ਜੋਗ ਭੇਖ ਸੰਨਿਆਸੈ ਪੇਖਿਓ ਜਤਿ ਜੰਗਮ ਕਾਪੜਾਏ ॥ |
| jog bhaekh sanniaasai paekhiou jath jangam kaaparraaeae || |
| I have seen Him among the Yogis, the Sannyaasees, the celibates, the wandering hermits and the wearers of patched coats. |

| ਤਪੀ ਤਪੀਸੁਰ ਮੁਨਿ ਮਹਿ ਪੇਖਿਓ ਨਟ ਨਾਟਿਕ ਨਿਰਤਾਏ ॥੨॥ |
| thapee thapeesur mun mehi paekhiou natt naattik nirathaaeae ||2|| |
| I have seen Him among the men of severe self-discipline, the silent sages, the actors, dramas and dances. ||2|| |
|
| ਚਹੁ ਮਹਿ ਪੇਖਿਓ ਖਟ ਮਹਿ ਪੇਖਿਓ ਦਸ ਅਸਟੀ ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਾਏ ॥ |
| chahu mehi paekhiou khatt mehi paekhiou dhas asattee sinmrithaaeae || |
| I have seen Him in the four Vedas, I have seen Him in the six Shaastras, in the eighteen Puraanas and the Simritees as well. |
|
| ਸਭ ਮਿਲਿ ਏਕੋ ਏਕੁ ਵਖਾਨਹਿ ਤਉ ਕਿਸ ਤੇ ਕਹਉ ਦੁਰਾਏ ॥੩॥ |
| sabh mil eaeko eaek vakhaanehi tho kis thae keho dhuraaeae ||3|| |
| All together, they declare that there is only the One Lord. So tell me, from whom is He hidden? ||3|| |
|
| ਅਗਹ ਅਗਹ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਨਹ ਕੀਮ ਕੀਮ ਕੀਮਾਏ ॥ |
| ageh ageh baeanth suaamee neh keem keem keemaaeae || |
| Unfathomable and Inaccessible, He is our Infinite Lord and Master; His Value is beyond valuation. |

| ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਨ ਕੈ ਬਲਿ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਈਐ ਜਿਹ ਘਟਿ ਪਰਗਟੀਆਏ ॥੪॥੨॥੧੫॥ |
| jan naanak thin kai bal bal jaaeeai jih ghatt paragatteeaaeae ||4||2||15|| |
| Servant Nanak is a sacrifice, a sacrifice to those, within whose heart He is revealed. ||4||2||15|| |

| How can anyone do evil, if he realizes that the Lord is near? |
|
| ਬਿਖੁ ਸੰਚੈ ਨਿਤ ਡਰਤਾ ਫਿਰੈ ॥ |
| bikh sanchai nith ddarathaa firai || |
| One who gathers corruption, constantly feels fear. |
|
| ਹੈ ਨਿਕਟੇ ਅਰੁ ਭੇਦੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ |
| hai nikattae ar bhaedh n paaeiaa || |
| He is near, but this mystery is not understood. |
|
| ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਭ ਮੋਹੀ ਮਾਇਆ ॥੧॥ |
| bin sathigur sabh mohee maaeiaa ||1|| |
| Without the True Guru, all are enticed by Maya. ||1|| |
|
| ਨੇੜੈ ਨੇੜੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਕਹੈ ॥ |
| naerrai naerrai sabh ko kehai || |
| Everyone says that He is near, near at hand. |
|
| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਭੇਦੁ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਕੋ ਲਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| guramukh bhaedh viralaa ko lehai ||1|| rehaao || |
| But rare is that person, who, as Gurmukh, understands this mystery. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਨਿਕਟਿ ਨ ਦੇਖੈ ਪਰ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਿ ਜਾਇ ॥ |
| nikatt n dhaekhai par grihi jaae || |
| The mortal does not see the Lord near at hand; instead, he goes to the homes of others. |
|
| ਦਰਬੁ ਹਿਰੈ ਮਿਥਿਆ ਕਰਿ ਖਾਇ ॥ |
| dharab hirai mithhiaa kar khaae || |
| He steals their wealth and lives in falsehood. |
|
| ਪਈ ਠਗਉਰੀ ਹਰਿ ਸੰਗਿ ਨ ਜਾਨਿਆ ॥ |
| pee thagouree har sang n jaaniaa || |
| Under the influence of the drug of illusion, he does not know that the Lord is with him. |
|
| ਬਾਝੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਹੈ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਨਿਆ ॥੨॥ |
| baajh guroo hai bharam bhulaaniaa ||2|| |
| Without the Guru, he is confused and deluded by doubt. ||2|| |
