| Without a tongue, how can anyone speak? |

| ਬਿਨੁ ਸ੍ਰਵਨਾ ਕਹਾ ਕੋ ਸੁਨਤਾ ॥ |
| bin sravanaa kehaa ko sunathaa || |
| Without ears, how can anyone hear? |

| ਬਿਨੁ ਨੇਤ੍ਰਾ ਕਹਾ ਕੋ ਪੇਖੈ ॥ |
| bin naethraa kehaa ko paekhai || |
| Without eyes, how can anyone see? |

| ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਨਰੁ ਕਹੀ ਨ ਲੇਖੈ ॥੨॥ |

| Without the Naam, the mortal is of no account at all. ||2|| |

| ਬਿਨੁ ਬਿਦਿਆ ਕਹਾ ਕੋਈ ਪੰਡਿਤ ॥ |
| bin bidhiaa kehaa koee panddith || |
| Without learning, how can one be a Pandit - a religious scholar? |

| ਬਿਨੁ ਅਮਰੈ ਕੈਸੇ ਰਾਜ ਮੰਡਿਤ ॥ |
| bin amarai kaisae raaj manddith || |
| Without power, what is the glory of an empire? |
|
| ਬਿਨੁ ਬੂਝੇ ਕਹਾ ਮਨੁ ਠਹਰਾਨਾ ॥ |
| bin boojhae kehaa man theharaanaa || |
| Without understanding, how can the mind become steady? |
|
| ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਸਭੁ ਜਗੁ ਬਉਰਾਨਾ ॥੩॥ |

| Without the Naam, the whole world is insane. ||3|| |

| ਬਿਨੁ ਬੈਰਾਗ ਕਹਾ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ॥ |

| Without detachment, how can one be a detached hermit? |

| ਬਿਨੁ ਹਉ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਕਹਾ ਕੋਊ ਤਿਆਗੀ ॥ |
| bin ho thiaag kehaa kooo thiaagee || |
| Without renouncing egotism, how can anyone be a renunciate? |

| ਬਿਨੁ ਬਸਿ ਪੰਚ ਕਹਾ ਮਨ ਚੂਰੇ ॥ |
| bin bas panch kehaa man choorae || |
| Without overcoming the five thieves, how can the mind be subdued? |

| ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਸਦ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਝੂਰੇ ॥੪॥ |
| naam binaa sadh sadh hee jhoorae ||4|| |
| Without the Naam, the mortal regrets and repents forever and ever. ||4|| |
|
| ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਦੀਖਿਆ ਕੈਸੇ ਗਿਆਨੁ ॥ |
| bin gur dheekhiaa kaisae giaan || |
| Without the Guru's Teachings, how can anyone obtain spiritual wisdom? |

| ਬਿਨੁ ਪੇਖੇ ਕਹੁ ਕੈਸੋ ਧਿਆਨੁ ॥ |
| bin paekhae kahu kaiso dhhiaan || |
| Without seeing - tell me: how can anyone visualize in meditation? |

| ਬਿਨੁ ਭੈ ਕਥਨੀ ਸਰਬ ਬਿਕਾਰ ॥ |
| bin bhai kathhanee sarab bikaar || |
| Without the Fear of God, all speech in useless. |

| Mankind is afflicted with the disease of egotism. |
|
| ਕਾਮ ਰੋਗਿ ਮੈਗਲੁ ਬਸਿ ਲੀਨਾ ॥ |
| kaam rog maigal bas leenaa || |
| The disease of sexual desire overwhelms the elephant. |
|
| ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਰੋਗਿ ਪਚਿ ਮੁਏ ਪਤੰਗਾ ॥ |
| dhrisatt rog pach mueae pathangaa || |
| Because of the disease of vision, the moth is burnt to death. |
|
| ਨਾਦ ਰੋਗਿ ਖਪਿ ਗਏ ਕੁਰੰਗਾ ॥੧॥ |

| Because of the disease of the sound of the bell, the deer is lured to its death. ||1|| |

| ਜੋ ਜੋ ਦੀਸੈ ਸੋ ਸੋ ਰੋਗੀ ॥ |

| Whoever I see is diseased. |

| ਰੋਗ ਰਹਿਤ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਜੋਗੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |

| ਜਿਹਵਾ ਰੋਗਿ ਮੀਨੁ ਗ੍ਰਸਿਆਨੋ ॥ |

| Because of the disease of taste, the fish is caught. |

| ਬਾਸਨ ਰੋਗਿ ਭਵਰੁ ਬਿਨਸਾਨੋ ॥ |
| baasan rog bhavar binasaano || |
| Because of the disease of smell, the bumble bee is destroyed. |
|
| ਹੇਤ ਰੋਗ ਕਾ ਸਗਲ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥ |
| haeth rog kaa sagal sansaaraa || |
| The whole world is caught in the disease of attachment. |
|
| ਤ੍ਰਿਬਿਧਿ ਰੋਗ ਮਹਿ ਬਧੇ ਬਿਕਾਰਾ ॥੨॥ |
| thribidhh rog mehi badhhae bikaaraa ||2|| |
| In the disease of the three qualities, corruption is multiplied. ||2|| |

| ਰੋਗੇ ਮਰਤਾ ਰੋਗੇ ਜਨਮੈ ॥ |
| rogae marathaa rogae janamai || |
| In disease the mortals die, and in disease they are born. |
|
| ਰੋਗ ਬੰਧ ਰਹਨੁ ਰਤੀ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ॥ |
| rog bandhh rehan rathee n paavai || |
| Entangled in disease, they cannot stay still, even for an instant. |

| ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਰੋਗੁ ਕਤਹਿ ਨ ਜਾਵੈ ॥੩॥ |

| Without the True Guru, the disease is never cured. ||3|| |

| ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮਿ ਜਿਸੁ ਕੀਨੀ ਦਇਆ ॥ |
| paarabreham jis keenee dhaeiaa || |
| When the Supreme Lord God grants His Mercy, |
|
| ਬਾਹ ਪਕੜਿ ਰੋਗਹੁ ਕਢਿ ਲਇਆ ॥ |
| baah pakarr rogahu kadt laeiaa || |
| He grabs hold of the mortal's arm, and pulls him up and out of the disease. |
|
| ਤੂਟੇ ਬੰਧਨ ਸਾਧਸੰਗੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ |
| thoottae bandhhan saadhhasang paaeiaa || |
| Reaching the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, the mortal's bonds are broken. |
|
| ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਿ ਰੋਗੁ ਮਿਟਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੭॥੨੦॥ |

| When He comes to mind, then all my pains are shattered. |
|
| ਚੀਤਿ ਆਵੈ ਤਾਂ ਸਰਧਾ ਪੂਰੀ ॥ |
| cheeth aavai thaan saradhhaa pooree || |
| When He comes to mind, my hopes are fulfilled. |
|
| ਚੀਤਿ ਆਵੈ ਤਾਂ ਕਬਹਿ ਨ ਝੂਰੀ ॥੧॥ |

| When He comes to mind, I never feel sadness. ||1|| |

| ਅੰਤਰਿ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਇ ਪ੍ਰਗਟੇ ਆਇ ॥ |

| Deep within my being, my Sovereign Lord King has revealed Himself to me. |

| When He comes to mind, I am the king of all. |

| When He comes to mind, all my affairs are completed. |

| ਚੀਤਿ ਆਵੈ ਤਾਂ ਰੰਗਿ ਗੁਲਾਲ ॥ |

| When He comes to mind, I am dyed in the deep crimson of His Love. |
