| The season of spring, so delightful, has come. |

| ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਰਵਹਿ ਸਿ ਤੇਰੈ ਚਾਇ ॥ |
| rang raathae ravehi s thaerai chaae || |
| Those who are imbued with love for You, O Lord, chant Your Name with joy. |

| ਕਿਸੁ ਪੂਜ ਚੜਾਵਉ ਲਗਉ ਪਾਇ ॥੧॥ |

| Whom else should I worship? At whose feet should I bow? ||1|| |

| ਤੇਰਾ ਦਾਸਨਿ ਦਾਸਾ ਕਹਉ ਰਾਇ ॥ |

| You have only One Form, and yet You have countless forms. |

| Which one should I worship? Before which one should I burn incense? |

| ਤੇਰਾ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਕਹਾ ਪਾਇ ॥ |

| Your limits cannot be found. How can anyone find them? |

| ਤੇਰਾ ਦਾਸਨਿ ਦਾਸਾ ਕਹਉ ਰਾਇ ॥੨॥ |

| The cycles of years and the places of pilgrimage are Yours, O Lord. |

| Your Name is True, O Transcendent Lord God. |

| ਤੇਰੀ ਗਤਿ ਅਵਿਗਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਣੀਐ ॥ |
| thaeree gath avigath nehee jaaneeai || |
| Your State cannot be known, O Eternal, Unchanging Lord God. |

| ਅਣਜਾਣਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਖਾਣੀਐ ॥੩॥ |

| Although You are unknown, still we chant Your Name. ||3|| |

| ਨਾਨਕੁ ਵੇਚਾਰਾ ਕਿਆ ਕਹੈ ॥ |

| What can poor Nanak say? |

| ਸਭੁ ਲੋਕੁ ਸਲਾਹੇ ਏਕਸੈ ॥ |

| All people praise the One Lord. |

| ਸਿਰੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਲੋਕਾ ਪਾਵ ਹੈ ॥ |

| Nanak places his head on the feet of such people. |

| ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ਜਾਉ ਜੇਤੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਵ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੨॥ |

| I am a sacrifice to Your Names, as many as there are, O Lord. ||4||2|| |

| The kitchen is golden, and the cooking pots are golden. |

| ਰੁਪੇ ਕੀਆ ਕਾਰਾ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਬਿਸਥਾਰੁ ॥ |
| rupae keeaa kaaraa bahuth bisathhaar || |
| The lines marking the cooking square are silver. |
 |
| ਗੰਗਾ ਕਾ ਉਦਕੁ ਕਰੰਤੇ ਕੀ ਆਗਿ ॥ |
| gangaa kaa oudhak karanthae kee aag || |
| The water is from the Ganges, and the firewood is sanctified. |
 |
| ਗਰੁੜਾ ਖਾਣਾ ਦੁਧ ਸਿਉ ਗਾਡਿ ॥੧॥ |
| garurraa khaanaa dhudhh sio gaadd ||1|| |
| The food is soft rice, cooked in milk. ||1|| |

| ਜਾਮਿ ਨ ਭੀਜੈ ਸਾਚ ਨਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |

| if you are not drenched with the True Name. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਦਸ ਅਠ ਲੀਖੇ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਪਾਸਿ ॥ |
| dhas ath leekhae hovehi paas || |
| One may have the eighteen Puraanas written in his own hand; |
 |
| ਚਾਰੇ ਬੇਦ ਮੁਖਾਗਰ ਪਾਠਿ ॥ |
| chaarae baedh mukhaagar paath || |
| he may recite the four Vedas by heart, |
 |
| ਪੁਰਬੀ ਨਾਵੈ ਵਰਨਾਂ ਕੀ ਦਾਤਿ ॥ |
| purabee naavai varanaan kee dhaath || |
| and take ritual baths at holy festivals and give charitable donations; |
 |
| ਵਰਤ ਨੇਮ ਕਰੇ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤਿ ॥੨॥ |
| varath naem karae dhin raath ||2|| |
| he may observe the ritual fasts, and perform religious ceremonies day and night. ||2|| |
 |
| ਕਾਜੀ ਮੁਲਾਂ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਸੇਖ ॥ |
| kaajee mulaan hovehi saekh || |
| He may be a Qazi, a Mullah or a Shaykh, |
 |
| ਜੋਗੀ ਜੰਗਮ ਭਗਵੇ ਭੇਖ ॥ |
| jogee jangam bhagavae bhaekh || |
| a Yogi or a wandering hermit wearing saffron-colored robes; |
 |
| ਕੋ ਗਿਰਹੀ ਕਰਮਾ ਕੀ ਸੰਧਿ ॥ |
| ko girehee karamaa kee sandhh || |
| he may be a householder, working at his job; |
 |
| ਬਿਨੁ ਬੂਝੇ ਸਭ ਖੜੀਅਸਿ ਬੰਧਿ ॥੩॥ |
| bin boojhae sabh kharreeas bandhh ||3|| |
| but without understanding the essence of devotional worship, all people are eventually bound and gagged, and driven along by the Messenger of Death. ||3|| |

| ਜੇਤੇ ਜੀਅ ਲਿਖੀ ਸਿਰਿ ਕਾਰ ॥ |
| jaethae jeea likhee sir kaar || |
| Each person's karma is written on his forehead. |
 |
| ਕਰਣੀ ਉਪਰਿ ਹੋਵਗਿ ਸਾਰ ॥ |
| karanee oupar hovag saar || |
| According to their deeds, they shall be judged. |
 |
| ਹੁਕਮੁ ਕਰਹਿ ਮੂਰਖ ਗਾਵਾਰ ॥ |
| hukam karehi moorakh gaavaar || |
| Only the foolish and the ignorant issue commands. |
 |
| ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਚੇ ਕੇ ਸਿਫਤਿ ਭੰਡਾਰ ॥੪॥੩॥ |

| O Nanak, the treasure of praise belongs to the True Lord alone. ||4||3|| |

| A person may take off his clothes and be naked. |

| ਜਟਾਧਾਰਿ ਕਿਆ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਜੋਗੁ ॥ |
| jattaadhhaar kiaa kamaavai jog || |
| What Yoga does he practice by having matted and tangled hair? |
 |
| ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਨਹੀ ਦਸਵੈ ਦੁਆਰ ॥ |
| man niramal nehee dhasavai dhuaar || |
| If the mind is not pure, what use is it to hold the breath at the Tenth Gate? |
 |
| ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਆਵੈ ਮੂੜ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ਵਾਰੋ ਵਾਰ ॥੧॥ |
| bhram bhram aavai moorrhaa vaaro vaar ||1|| |
| The fool wanders and wanders, entering the cycle of reincarnation again and again. ||1|| |

| ਏਕੁ ਧਿਆਵਹੁ ਮੂੜ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਮਨਾ ॥ |
| eaek dhhiaavahu moorrh manaa || |
| Meditate on the One Lord, O my foolish mind, |
 |
| ਪਾਰਿ ਉਤਰਿ ਜਾਹਿ ਇਕ ਖਿਨਾਂ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| paar outhar jaahi eik khinaan ||1|| rehaao || |
| and you shall cross over to the other side in an instant. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਕਰਹਿ ਵਖਿਆਣ ॥ |
| simrith saasathr karehi vakhiaan || |
| Some recite and expound on the Simritees and the Shaastras; |
 |
| ਨਾਦੀ ਬੇਦੀ ਪੜ੍ਹ੍ਹਹਿ ਪੁਰਾਣ ॥ |
| naadhee baedhee parrhehi puraan || |
| some sing the Vedas and read the Puraanas; |
 |
| ਪਾਖੰਡ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਮਨਿ ਕਪਟੁ ਕਮਾਹਿ ॥ |
| paakhandd dhrisatt man kapatt kamaahi || |
| but they practice hypocrisy and deception with their eyes and minds. |
 |
| ਤਿਨ ਕੈ ਰਮਈਆ ਨੇੜਿ ਨਾਹਿ ॥੨॥ |
| thin kai rameeaa naerr naahi ||2|| |
| The Lord does not even come near them. ||2|| |
 |
| ਜੇ ਕੋ ਐਸਾ ਸੰਜਮੀ ਹੋਇ ॥ |
| jae ko aisaa sanjamee hoe || |
| Even if someone practices such self-discipline, |
 |
| ਕ੍ਰਿਆ ਵਿਸੇਖ ਪੂਜਾ ਕਰੇਇ ॥ |
| kiraaa visaekh poojaa karaee || |
| compassion and devotional worship |
