| har naam rasaaein sehaj aathh ||1|| |
| The wealth of the Lord's Name, the source of nectar, is easily acquired. ||1|| |

| ਮਤ ਬਿਸਰਸਿ ਰੇ ਮਨ ਰਾਮ ਬੋਲਿ ॥ |
| math bisaras rae man raam bol || |
| So chant the Name of the Lord; do not forget it, O my mind. |

| ਅਪਰੰਪਰੁ ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਆਪਿ ਤੁਲਾਏ ਅਤੁਲੁ ਤੋਲਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| aparanpar agam agochar guramukh har aap thulaaeae athul thol ||1|| rehaao || |
| The Lord is Infinite, Inaccessible and Incomprehensible; His weight cannot be weighed, but He Himself allows the Gurmukh to weigh Him. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਗੁਰ ਚਰਨ ਸਰੇਵਹਿ ਗੁਰਸਿਖ ਤੋਰ ॥ |
| gur charan saraevehi gurasikh thor || |
| Your GurSikhs serve at the Guru's Feet. |

| ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵ ਤਰੇ ਤਜਿ ਮੇਰ ਤੋਰ ॥ |
| gur saev tharae thaj maer thor || |
| Serving the Guru, they are carried across; they have abandoned any distinction between 'mine' and 'yours'. |

| ਨਰ ਨਿੰਦਕ ਲੋਭੀ ਮਨਿ ਕਠੋਰ ॥ |
| nar nindhak lobhee man kathor || |
| The slanderous and greedy people are hard-hearted. |
 |
| ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵ ਨ ਭਾਈ ਸਿ ਚੋਰ ਚੋਰ ॥੨॥ |
| gur saev n bhaaee s chor chor ||2|| |
| Those who do not love to serve the Guru are the most thieving of thieves. ||2|| |

| ਗੁਰੁ ਤੁਠਾ ਬਖਸੇ ਭਗਤਿ ਭਾਉ ॥ |
| gur thuthaa bakhasae bhagath bhaao || |
| When the Guru is pleased, He blesses the mortals with loving devotional worship of the Lord. |

| ਗੁਰਿ ਤੁਠੈ ਪਾਈਐ ਹਰਿ ਮਹਲਿ ਠਾਉ ॥ |
| gur thuthai paaeeai har mehal thaao || |
| When the Guru is pleased, the mortal obtains a place in the Mansion of the Lord's Presence. |

| ਪਰਹਰਿ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਜਾਗੁ ॥ |
| parehar nindhaa har bhagath jaag || |
| So renounce slander, and awaken in devotional worship of the Lord. |

| ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਸੁਹਾਵੀ ਕਰਮਿ ਭਾਗੁ ॥੩॥ |
| har bhagath suhaavee karam bhaag ||3|| |
| Devotion to the Lord is wonderful; it comes through good karma and destiny. ||3|| |

| ਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਵੈ ਕਰੇ ਦਾਤਿ ॥ |
| gur mael milaavai karae dhaath || |
| The Guru unites in union with the Lord, and grants the gift of the Name. |

| ਗੁਰਸਿਖ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਦਿਨਸੁ ਰਾਤਿ ॥ |
| gurasikh piaarae dhinas raath || |
| The Guru loves His Sikhs, day and night. |
 |
| ਫਲੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਤੁਸਿ ਦੇਇ ॥ |
| fal naam paraapath gur thus dhaee || |
| They obtain the fruit of the Naam, when the Guru's favor is bestowed. |

| ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਕੇਇ ॥੪॥੭॥ |
| kahu naanak paavehi viralae kaee ||4||7|| |
| Says Nanak, those who receive it are very rare indeed. ||4||7|| |

| When it pleases our Lord and Master, His servant serves Him. |

| ਜੀਵਤੁ ਮਰੈ ਸਭਿ ਕੁਲ ਉਧਰੈ ॥੧॥ |
| jeevath marai sabh kul oudhharai ||1|| |
| He remains dead while yet alive, and redeems all his ancestors. ||1|| |
 |
| ਤੇਰੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਛੋਡਉ ਕਿਆ ਕੋ ਹਸੈ ॥ |
| thaeree bhagath n shhoddo kiaa ko hasai || |
| I shall not renounce Your devotional worship, O Lord; what does it matter if people laugh at me? |

| ਸਾਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੇਰੈ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਵਸੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| saach naam maerai hiradhai vasai ||1|| rehaao || |
| The True Name abides within my heart. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਜੈਸੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਗਲਤੁ ਰਹੈ ॥ |
| jaisae maaeiaa mohi praanee galath rehai || |
| Just as the mortal remains engrossed in attachment to Maya, |

| ਤੈਸੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਰਵਤ ਰਹੈ ॥੨॥ |
| thaisae santh jan raam naam ravath rehai ||2|| |
| so does the Lord's humble Saint remain absorbed in the Lord's Name. ||2|| |

| ਮੈ ਮੂਰਖ ਮੁਗਧ ਊਪਰਿ ਕਰਹੁ ਦਇਆ ॥ |
| mai moorakh mugadhh oopar karahu dhaeiaa || |
| I am foolish and ignorant, O Lord; please be merciful to me. |

| ਤਉ ਸਰਣਾਗਤਿ ਰਹਉ ਪਇਆ ॥੩॥ |
| tho saranaagath reho paeiaa ||3|| |
| May I remain in Your Sanctuary. ||3|| |

| ਕਹਤੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਕੇ ਨਿਹਫਲ ਕਾਮਾ ॥ |

| Says Nanak, worldly affairs are fruitless. |

| Only by Guru's Grace does one receive the Nectar of the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||4||8|| |

| O Brahmin, you worship and believe in your stone-god, and wear your ceremonial rosary beads. |

| ਕਾਹੇ ਕਲਰਾ ਸਿੰਚਹੁ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਵਹੁ ॥ |
| kaahae kalaraa sinchahu janam gavaavahu || |
| Why do you irrigate the barren, alkaline soil? You are wasting your life away! |

| ਕਾਚੀ ਢਹਗਿ ਦਿਵਾਲ ਕਾਹੇ ਗਚੁ ਲਾਵਹੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| kaachee dtehag dhivaal kaahae gach laavahu ||1|| rehaao || |
| This wall of mud is crumbling. Why bother to patch it with plaster? ||1||Pause|| |

| ਕਰ ਹਰਿਹਟ ਮਾਲ ਟਿੰਡ ਪਰੋਵਹੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਮਨੁ ਜੋਵਹੁ ॥ |
| kar harihatt maal ttindd parovahu this bheethar man jovahu || |
| Let your hands be the buckets, strung on the chain, and yoke the mind as the ox to pull it; draw the water up from the well. |

| ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਸਿੰਚਹੁ ਭਰਹੁ ਕਿਆਰੇ ਤਉ ਮਾਲੀ ਕੇ ਹੋਵਹੁ ॥੨॥ |
| anmrith sinchahu bharahu kiaarae tho maalee kae hovahu ||2|| |
| Irrigate your fields with the Ambrosial Nectar, and you shall be owned by God the Gardener. ||2|| |

| ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਦੁਇ ਕਰਹੁ ਬਸੋਲੇ ਗੋਡਹੁ ਧਰਤੀ ਭਾਈ ॥ |
| kaam krodhh dhue karahu basolae goddahu dhharathee bhaaee || |
| Let sexual desire and anger be your two shovels, to dig up the dirt of your farm, O Siblings of Destiny. |

| ਜਿਉ ਗੋਡਹੁ ਤਿਉ ਤੁਮ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਵਹੁ ਕਿਰਤੁ ਨ ਮੇਟਿਆ ਜਾਈ ॥੩॥ |
| jio goddahu thio thumh sukh paavahu kirath n maettiaa jaaee ||3|| |
| The more you dig, the more peace you shall find. Your past actions cannot be erased. ||3|| |

| ਬਗੁਲੇ ਤੇ ਫੁਨਿ ਹੰਸੁਲਾ ਹੋਵੈ ਜੇ ਤੂ ਕਰਹਿ ਦਇਆਲਾ ॥ |
| bagulae thae fun hansulaa hovai jae thoo karehi dhaeiaalaa || |
| The crane is again transformed into a swan, if You so will, O Merciful Lord. |

| ਪ੍ਰਣਵਤਿ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਦਾਸਨਿ ਦਾਸਾ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਹੁ ਦਇਆਲਾ ॥੪॥੧॥੯॥ |

| Prays Nanak, the slave of Your slaves: O Merciful Lord, have mercy on me. ||4||1||9|| |

| In the House of the Husband Lord - in the world hereafter everything is jointly owned; but in this world - in the house of the soul-bride's parents the soul-bride owns them separately. |

| ਆਪਿ ਕੁਚਜੀ ਦੋਸੁ ਨ ਦੇਊ ਜਾਣਾ ਨਾਹੀ ਰਖੇ ॥੧॥ |
| aap kuchajee dhos n dhaeoo jaanaa naahee rakhae ||1|| |
| She herself is ill-mannered; how can she blame anyone else? She does not know how to take care of these things. ||1|| |

| ਮੇਰੇ ਸਾਹਿਬਾ ਹਉ ਆਪੇ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਣੀ ॥ |
| maerae saahibaa ho aapae bharam bhulaanee || |
| O my Lord and Master, I am deluded by doubt. |

| ਅਖਰ ਲਿਖੇ ਸੇਈ ਗਾਵਾ ਅਵਰ ਨ ਜਾਣਾ ਬਾਣੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| akhar likhae saeee gaavaa avar n jaanaa baanee ||1|| rehaao || |
| I sing the Word which You have written; I do not know any other Word. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਕਢਿ ਕਸੀਦਾ ਪਹਿਰਹਿ ਚੋਲੀ ਤਾਂ ਤੁਮ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਜਾਣਹੁ ਨਾਰੀ ॥ |
| kadt kaseedhaa pehirehi cholee thaan thumh jaanahu naaree || |
| She alone is known as the Lord's bride, who embroiders her gown in the Name. |

| ਜੇ ਘਰੁ ਰਾਖਹਿ ਬੁਰਾ ਨ ਚਾਖਹਿ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਕੰਤ ਪਿਆਰੀ ॥੨॥ |
| jae ghar raakhehi buraa n chaakhehi hovehi kanth piaaree ||2|| |
| She who preserves and protects the home of her own heart and does not taste of evil, shall be the Beloved of her Husband Lord. ||2|| |

| ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਪੜਿਆ ਪੰਡਿਤੁ ਬੀਨਾ ਦੁਇ ਅਖਰ ਦੁਇ ਨਾਵਾ ॥ |
| jae thoon parriaa panddith beenaa dhue akhar dhue naavaa || |
| If you are a learned and wise religious scholar, then make a boat of the letters of the Lord's Name. |

| ਪ੍ਰਣਵਤਿ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਏਕੁ ਲੰਘਾਏ ਜੇ ਕਰਿ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਵਾਂ ॥੩॥੨॥੧੦॥ |
| pranavath naanak eaek langhaaeae jae kar sach samaavaan ||3||2||10|| |
| Prays Nanak, the One Lord shall carry you across, if you merge in the True Lord. ||3||2||10|| |

| The king is just a boy, and his city is vulnerable. He is in love with his wicked enemies. |

| He reads of his two mothers and his two fathers; O Pandit, reflect on this. ||1|| |
