| ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਜਨ ਦੇਖਿ ਹਜੂਰਿ ॥ |
| bhagath karehi jan dhaekh hajoor || |
| The Lord's humble servant worships Him and beholds Him ever-present near at hand. |
|
| ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾ ਕੀ ਪਗ ਪੰਕਜ ਧੂਰਿ ॥ |
| santh janaa kee pag pankaj dhhoor || |
| He is the dust of the lotus feet of the humble Saints. |
|
| ਹਰਿ ਸੇਤੀ ਸਦ ਰਹਹਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥ |
| har saethee sadh rehehi liv laae || |
| Those who remain lovingly attuned to the Lord forever |
|
| ਪੂਰੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਆ ਬੁਝਾਇ ॥੧॥ |
| poorai sathigur dheeaa bujhaae ||1|| |
| are blessed with understanding by the Perfect True Guru. ||1|| |
|
| ਦਾਸਾ ਕਾ ਦਾਸੁ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਇ ॥ |
| dhaasaa kaa dhaas viralaa koee hoe || |
| How rare are those who become the slave of the Lord's slaves. |
|
| ਊਤਮ ਪਦਵੀ ਪਾਵੈ ਸੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| ootham padhavee paavai soe ||1|| rehaao || |
| They attain the supreme status. ||1||Pause|| |
|
| ਏਕੋ ਸੇਵਹੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥ |
| eaeko saevahu avar n koe || |
| So serve the One Lord, and no other. |
|
| ਜਿਤੁ ਸੇਵਿਐ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥ |
| jith saeviai sadhaa sukh hoe || |
| Serving Him, eternal peace is obtained. |
|
| ਨਾ ਓਹੁ ਮਰੈ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ॥ |
| naa ouhu marai n aavai jaae || |
| He does not die; He does not come and go in reincarnation. |
|
| ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਸੇਵੀ ਕਿਉ ਮਾਇ ॥੨॥ |
| this bin avar saevee kio maae ||2|| |
| Why should I serve any other than Him, O my mother? ||2|| |
|
| ਸੇ ਜਨ ਸਾਚੇ ਜਿਨੀ ਸਾਚੁ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ॥ |
| sae jan saachae jinee saach pashhaaniaa || |
| True are those humble beings who realize the True Lord. |
|
| ਆਪੁ ਮਾਰਿ ਸਹਜੇ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਣਿਆ ॥ |
| aap maar sehajae naam samaaniaa || |
| Conquering their self-conceit, they merge intuitively into the Naam, the Name of the Lord. |
|
| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥ |
| guramukh naam paraapath hoe || |
| The Gurmukhs gather in the Naam. |
|
| ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਸਚੁ ਸੋਇ ॥੩॥ |
| man niramal niramal sach soe ||3|| |
| Their minds are immaculate, and their reputations are immaculate. ||3|| |
|
| ਜਿਨਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਕੀਆ ਤਿਸੁ ਹਰਿ ਤੂ ਜਾਣੁ ॥ |
| jin giaan keeaa this har thoo jaan || |
| Know the Lord, who gave you spiritual wisdom, |
|
| ਸਾਚ ਸਬਦਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਏਕੁ ਸਿਞਾਣੁ ॥ |
| saach sabadh prabh eaek sinjaan || |
| and realize the One God, through the True Word of the Shabad. |
|
| ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਚਾਖੈ ਤਾਂ ਸੁਧਿ ਹੋਇ ॥ |
| har ras chaakhai thaan sudhh hoe || |
| When the mortal tastes the sublime essence of the Lord, he becomes pure and holy. |
|
| ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਸਚੁ ਸੋਇ ॥੪॥੮॥ |

| O Nanak, those who are imbued with the Naam - their reputations are true. ||4||8|| |

| ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਕੁਲਾਂ ਕਾ ਕਰਹਿ ਉਧਾਰੁ ॥ |
| naam rathae kulaan kaa karehi oudhhaar || |
| Those who are imbued with the Naam, the Name of the Lord - their generations are redeemed and saved. |

| ਸਾਚੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਨਾਮ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥ |
| saachee baanee naam piaar || |
| True is their speech; they love the Naam. |
|
| ਮਨਮੁਖ ਭੂਲੇ ਕਾਹੇ ਆਏ ॥ |
| manamukh bhoolae kaahae aaeae || |
| Why have the wandering self-willed manmukhs even come into the world? |
|
| ਨਾਮਹੁ ਭੂਲੇ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਏ ॥੧॥ |
| naamahu bhoolae janam gavaaeae ||1|| |
| Forgetting the Naam, the mortals waste their lives away. ||1|| |
|
| ਜੀਵਤ ਮਰੈ ਮਰਿ ਮਰਣੁ ਸਵਾਰੈ ॥ |
| jeevath marai mar maran savaarai || |
| One who dies while yet alive, truly dies, and embellishes his death. |
|
| ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਾਚੁ ਉਰ ਧਾਰੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |

| Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, he enshrines the True Lord within his heart. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਚੁ ਭੋਜਨੁ ਪਵਿਤੁ ਸਰੀਰਾ ॥ |
| guramukh sach bhojan pavith sareeraa || |
| Truth is the food of the Gurmukh; his body is sanctified and pure. |
|
| ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਸਦ ਗੁਣੀ ਗਹੀਰਾ ॥ |
| man niramal sadh gunee geheeraa || |
| His mind is immaculate; he is forever the ocean of virtue. |
|
| ਜੰਮੈ ਮਰੈ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ॥ |
| janmai marai n aavai jaae || |
| He is not forced to come and go in the cycle of birth and death. |
|
| ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਸਾਚਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੨॥ |
| gur parasaadhee saach samaae ||2|| |
| By Guru's Grace, he merges in the True Lord. ||2|| |
|
| ਸਾਚਾ ਸੇਵਹੁ ਸਾਚੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ॥ |
| saachaa saevahu saach pashhaanai || |
| Serving the True Lord, one realizes Truth. |
|
| ਦਰਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਸਚੁ ਸੋਭਾ ਹੋਇ ॥ |
| dhar saachai sach sobhaa hoe || |
| In the Court of the True Lord, he obtains true glory. |
|
| ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਵਾਸਾ ਪਾਵੈ ਸੋਇ ॥੩॥ |
| nij ghar vaasaa paavai soe ||3|| |
| He comes to dwell in the home of his own inner being. ||3|| |
|
| ਆਪਿ ਅਭੁਲੁ ਸਚਾ ਸਚੁ ਸੋਇ ॥ |
| aap abhul sachaa sach soe || |
| He cannot be fooled; He is the Truest of the True. |
|
| ਹੋਰਿ ਸਭਿ ਭੂਲਹਿ ਦੂਜੈ ਪਤਿ ਖੋਇ ॥ |
| hor sabh bhoolehi dhoojai path khoe || |
| All others are deluded; in duality, they lose their honor. |
|
| ਸਾਚਾ ਸੇਵਹੁ ਸਾਚੀ ਬਾਣੀ ॥ |
| saachaa saevahu saachee baanee || |
| So serve the True Lord, through the True Bani of His Word. |
|
| ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੇ ਸਾਚਿ ਸਮਾਣੀ ॥੪॥੯॥ |

| O Nanak, through the Naam, merge in the True Lord. ||4||9|| |

| ਬਿਨੁ ਕਰਮਾ ਸਭ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਈ ॥ |
| bin karamaa sabh bharam bhulaaee || |
| Without the grace of good karma, all are deluded by doubt. |
|
| ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਈ ॥ |
| maaeiaa mohi bahuth dhukh paaee || |
| In attachment to Maya, they suffer in terrible pain. |
|
| ਮਨਮੁਖ ਅੰਧੇ ਠਉਰ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥ |
| manamukh andhhae thour n paaee || |
| The blind, self-willed manmukhs find no place of rest. |
|
| ਬਿਸਟਾ ਕਾ ਕੀੜਾ ਬਿਸਟਾ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਈ ॥੧॥ |
| bisattaa kaa keerraa bisattaa maahi samaaee ||1|| |
| They are like maggots in manure, rotting away in manure. ||1|| |
|
| ਹੁਕਮੁ ਮੰਨੇ ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥ |
| hukam mannae so jan paravaan || |
| That humble being who obeys the Hukam of the Lord's Command is accepted. |
|
| ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਨੀਸਾਣੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| gur kai sabadh naam neesaan ||1|| rehaao || |
| Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, he is blessed with the insignia and the banner of the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਸਾਚਿ ਰਤੇ ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ਧੁਰਿ ਲਿਖਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ |
| saach rathae jinhaa dhhur likh paaeiaa || |
| Those who have such pre-ordained destiny are imbued with the Naam. |
|
| ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਦਾ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਇਆ ॥ |
| har kaa naam sadhaa man bhaaeiaa || |
| The Name of the Lord is forever pleasing to their minds. |
|
| ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥ |
| sathigur kee baanee sadhaa sukh hoe || |
| Through the Bani, the Word of the True Guru, eternal peace is found. |
|
| ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ਸੋਇ ॥੨॥ |
| jothee joth milaaeae soe ||2|| |
| Through it, one's light merges into the Light. ||2|| |
|
| ਏਕੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਤਾਰੇ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥ |
| eaek naam thaarae sansaar || |
| Only the Naam, the Name of the Lord, can save the world. |
|
| ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਨਾਮ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥ |

| By Guru's Grace, one comes to love the Naam. |
