Human birth is a priceless jewel, which has been squandered in exchange for a worthless shell. ||1||Pause|| |

ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਭਾਣੈ ਜਨਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਮਤਿ ਊਤਮ ਹੋਈ ॥ |
har kai bhaanai janam padhaarathh paaeiaa math ootham hoee || |
By the Pleasure of the Lord's Will, the prize of this human birth is obtained, and the intellect is exalted. |

ਜਨਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਪਾਇ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥ |
janam padhaarathh paae naam dhhiaaeiaa || |
Having obtained the treasure of this human birth, I meditate on the Naam, the Name of the Lord. |

ਮਾਣਸ ਜਨਮੁ ਪੁੰਨਿ ਕਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਾਈ ॥ |
maanas janam punn kar paaeiaa bin naavai dhhrig dhhrig birathhaa jaaee || |
Human birth is obtained through good actions; without the Name, it is cursed, totally cursed, and it passes away in vain. |

ਰਤਨ ਜਨਮੁ ਖੋਇਓ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਬਿਸਰਿਓ ਇਹੁ ਅਉਸਰੁ ਕਤ ਪਈਹੈ ॥੩॥ |
rathan janam khoeiou prabh bisariou eihu aousar kath peehai ||3|| |
You have lost the jewel of human birth by forgetting God; when will you have such an opportunity again? ||3|| |

ਮਾਣਸ ਜਨਮੁ ਦੁਲੰਭੁ ਹੈ ਜਗ ਮਹਿ ਖਟਿਆ ਆਇ ॥ |
maanas janam dhulanbh hai jag mehi khattiaa aae || |
This human birth is so precious; one must earn the right to come into the world. |

ਮਨ ਮੇਰਿਆ ਜਨਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਪਾਇ ਕੈ ਇਕਿ ਸਚਿ ਲਗੇ ਵਾਪਾਰਾ ॥ |
man maeriaa janam padhaarathh paae kai eik sach lagae vaapaaraa || |
O my mind, obtaining the blessing of this human birth, some are engaged in the trade of Truth. |

ਜੋ ਜੋ ਜੂਨੀ ਆਇਓ ਤਿਹ ਤਿਹ ਉਰਝਾਇਓ ਮਾਣਸ ਜਨਮੁ ਸੰਜੋਗਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ |
jo jo joonee aaeiou thih thih ourajhaaeiou maanas janam sanjog paaeiaa || |
Whoever is born into the world, is entangled in it; human birth is obtained only by good destiny. |

ਅਨਿਕ ਜਨਮ ਭ੍ਰਮਤੌ ਹੀ ਆਇਓ ਮਾਨਸ ਜਨਮੁ ਦੁਲਭਾਹੀ ॥ |
anik janam bhramatha hee aaeiou maanas janam dhulabhaahee || |
You wandered through countless incarnations, until finally you attained this priceless human birth. |

ਰਮਣੰ ਕੇਵਲੰ ਕੀਰਤਨੰ ਸੁਧਰਮੰ ਦੇਹ ਧਾਰਣਹ ॥ |
ramanan kaevalan keerathanan sudhharaman dhaeh dhhaaraneh || |
To sing the Kirtan of God's Praises is the righteous duty incurred by taking birth in this human body. |
