| jin ko thakhath milai vaddiaaee guramukh sae paradhhaan keeeae || |
| Those who are blessed with the glory of the Lord's Throne - those Gurmukhs are renowned as supreme. |

| paaras bhaett bheae sae paaras naanak har gur sang thheeeae ||4||4||12|| |
| Touching the philosopher's stone, they themselves becomes the philosopher's stone; they become the companions of the Lord, the Guru. ||4||4||12|| |

| ਮਾਹਾ ਰੁਤੀ ਮਹਿ ਸਦ ਬਸੰਤੁ ॥ |
| maahaa ruthee mehi sadh basanth || |
| Throughout the months and the seasons, the Lord is always in bloom. |

| ਜਿਤੁ ਹਰਿਆ ਸਭੁ ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤੁ ॥ |
| jith hariaa sabh jeea janth || |
| He rejuvenates all beings and creatures. |
 |
| ਕਿਆ ਹਉ ਆਖਾ ਕਿਰਮ ਜੰਤੁ ॥ |
| kiaa ho aakhaa kiram janth || |
| What can I say? I am just a worm. |
 |
| ਤੇਰਾ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਆਦਿ ਅੰਤੁ ॥੧॥ |
| thaeraa kinai n paaeiaa aadh anth ||1|| |
| No one has found Your beginning or Your end, O Lord. ||1|| |

| ਤੈ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਕੀ ਕਰਹਿ ਸੇਵ ॥ |

| Those who serve You, Lord, |

| ਪਰਮ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਆਤਮ ਦੇਵ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| param sukh paavehi aatham dhaev ||1|| rehaao || |
| obtain the greatest peace; their souls are so divine. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਕਰਮੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਤਾਂ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰੈ ॥ |
| karam hovai thaan saevaa karai || |
| If the Lord is merciful, then the mortal is allowed to serve Him. |

| ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਜੀਵਤ ਮਰੈ ॥ |
| gur parasaadhee jeevath marai || |
| By Guru's Grace, he remains dead while yet alive. |
 |
| ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸਾਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਉਚਰੈ ॥ |
| anadhin saach naam oucharai || |
| Night and day, he chants the True Name; |
 |
| ਇਨ ਬਿਧਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਦੁਤਰੁ ਤਰੈ ॥੨॥ |
| ein bidhh praanee dhuthar tharai ||2|| |
| in this way, he crosses over the treacherous world-ocean. ||2|| |

| ਬਿਖੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਕਰਤਾਰਿ ਉਪਾਏ ॥ |
| bikh anmrith karathaar oupaaeae || |
| The Creator created both poison and nectar. |
 |
| ਸੰਸਾਰ ਬਿਰਖ ਕਉ ਦੁਇ ਫਲ ਲਾਏ ॥ |
| sansaar birakh ko dhue fal laaeae || |
| He attached these two fruits to the world-plant. |
 |
| ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਏ ॥ |
| aapae karathaa karae karaaeae || |
| The Creator Himself is the Doer, the Cause of all. |
 |
| ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਸੈ ਖਵਾਏ ॥੩॥ |
| jo this bhaavai thisai khavaaeae ||3|| |
| He feeds all as He pleases. ||3|| |
 |
| ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇਇ ॥ |
| naanak jis no nadhar karaee || |
| O Nanak, when He casts His Glance of Grace, |

| ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਆਪੇ ਦੇਇ ॥ |
| anmrith naam aapae dhaee || |
| He Himself bestows His Ambrosial Naam. |
 |
| ਬਿਖਿਆ ਕੀ ਬਾਸਨਾ ਮਨਹਿ ਕਰੇਇ ॥ |
| bikhiaa kee baasanaa manehi karaee || |
| Thus, the desire for sin and corruption is ended. |

| ਅਪਣਾ ਭਾਣਾ ਆਪਿ ਕਰੇਇ ॥੪॥੧॥ |

| The Lord Himself carries out His Own Will. ||4||1|| |

| Those who are attuned to the True Lord's Name are happy and exalted. |

| ਦਇਆ ਕਰਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲਾ ॥ |
| dhaeiaa karahu prabh dheen dhaeiaalaa || |
| Take pity on me, O God, Merciful to the meek. |
 |
| ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨਹੀ ਮੈ ਕੋਇ ॥ |
| this bin avar nehee mai koe || |
| Without Him, I have no other at all. |
 |
| ਜਿਉ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਉ ਰਾਖੈ ਸੋਇ ॥੧॥ |
| jio bhaavai thio raakhai soe ||1|| |
| As it pleases His Will, He keeps me. ||1|| |

| ਗੁਰ ਗੋਪਾਲ ਮੇਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਏ ॥ |
| gur gopaal maerai man bhaaeae || |
| The Guru, the Lord, is pleasing to my mind. |

| ਰਹਿ ਨ ਸਕਉ ਦਰਸਨ ਦੇਖੇ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਹਜਿ ਮਿਲਉ ਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| rehi n sako dharasan dhaekhae bin sehaj milo gur mael milaaeae ||1|| rehaao || |
| I cannot even survive, without the Blessed Vision of His Darshan. But I shall easily unite with the Guru, if He unites me in His Union. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਲੋਭੀ ਲੋਭਿ ਲੁਭਾਨਾ ॥ |
| eihu man lobhee lobh lubhaanaa || |
| The greedy mind is enticed by greed. |

| ਰਾਮ ਬਿਸਾਰਿ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਪਛੁਤਾਨਾ ॥ |
| raam bisaar bahur pashhuthaanaa || |
| Forgetting the Lord, it regrets and repents in the end. |
 |
| ਬਿਛੁਰਤ ਮਿਲਾਇ ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵ ਰਾਂਗੇ ॥ |
| bishhurath milaae gur saev raangae || |
| The separated ones are reunited, when they are inspired to serve the Guru. |
 |
| ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੀਓ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਵਡਭਾਗੇ ॥੨॥ |
| har naam dheeou masathak vaddabhaagae ||2|| |
| They are blessed with the Lord's Name - such is the destiny written on their foreheads. ||2|| |

| ਪਉਣ ਪਾਣੀ ਕੀ ਇਹ ਦੇਹ ਸਰੀਰਾ ॥ |
| poun paanee kee eih dhaeh sareeraa || |
| This body is built of air and water. |
 |
| ਹਉਮੈ ਰੋਗੁ ਕਠਿਨ ਤਨਿ ਪੀਰਾ ॥ |
| houmai rog kathin than peeraa || |
| The body is afflicted with the terribly painful illness of egotism. |
 |
| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਦਾਰੂ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇਆ ॥ |
| guramukh raam naam dhaaroo gun gaaeiaa || |
| The Gurmukh has the Medicine: singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord's Name. |

| ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਗੁਰਿ ਰੋਗੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥੩॥ |
| kar kirapaa gur rog gavaaeiaa ||3|| |
| Granting His Grace, the Guru has cured the illness. ||3|| |
 |
| ਚਾਰਿ ਨਦੀਆ ਅਗਨੀ ਤਨਿ ਚਾਰੇ ॥ |
| chaar nadheeaa aganee than chaarae || |
| The four evils are the four rivers of fire flowing through the body. |
 |
| ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਜਲਤ ਜਲੇ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੇ ॥ |
| thrisanaa jalath jalae ahankaarae || |
| It is burning in desire, and burning in egotism. |
 |
| ਗੁਰਿ ਰਾਖੇ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਤਾਰੇ ॥ |
| gur raakhae vaddabhaagee thaarae || |
| Those whom the Guru protects and saves are very fortunate. |
 |
| ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਉਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਧਾਰੇ ॥੪॥੨॥ |

| Servant Nanak enshrines the Ambrosial Name of the Lord in his heart. ||4||2|| |

| One who serves the Lord is the Lord's person. |

| ਸਾਚੁ ਸਹਜੁ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੋਗੁ ॥ |
| saach sehaj kadhae n hovai sog || |
| He dwells in intuitive peace, and never suffers in sorrow. |
 |
| ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮੁਏ ਨਾਹੀ ਹਰਿ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ॥ |
| manamukh mueae naahee har man maahi || |
| The self-willed manmukhs are dead; the Lord is not within their minds. |
 |
| ਮਰਿ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮਹਿ ਭੀ ਮਰਿ ਜਾਹਿ ॥੧॥ |
| mar mar janmehi bhee mar jaahi ||1|| |
| They die and die again and again, and are reincarnated, only to die once more. ||1|| |
 |
| ਸੇ ਜਨ ਜੀਵੇ ਜਿਨ ਹਰਿ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ॥ |
| sae jan jeevae jin har man maahi || |
| They alone are alive, whose minds are filled with the Lord. |
 |
| ਸਾਚੁ ਸਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਲਹਿ ਸਾਚਿ ਸਮਾਹਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| saach samhaalehi saach samaahi ||1|| rehaao || |
| They contemplate the True Lord, and are absorbed in the True Lord. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਹਰਿ ਨ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਤੇ ਦੂਰਿ ॥ |
| har n saevehi thae har thae dhoor || |
| Those who do not serve the Lord are far away from the Lord. |
 |
| ਦਿਸੰਤਰੁ ਭਵਹਿ ਸਿਰਿ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਧੂਰਿ ॥ |
| dhisanthar bhavehi sir paavehi dhhoor || |
| They wander in foreign lands, with dust thrown on their heads. |
 |
| ਹਰਿ ਆਪੇ ਜਨ ਲੀਏ ਲਾਇ ॥ |
| har aapae jan leeeae laae || |
| The Lord Himself enjoins His humble servants to serve Him. |
 |
| ਤਿਨ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੈ ਤਿਲੁ ਨ ਤਮਾਇ ॥੨॥ |
| thin sadhaa sukh hai thil n thamaae ||2|| |
| They live in peace forever, and have no greed at all. ||2|| |
