ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਪਾਇਓ ਮਨਿ ਵੇਖਹੁ ਕੋ ਪਤੀਆਇ ॥ |
bin sathigur kinai n paaeiou man vaekhahu ko patheeaae || |
Without the True Guru, no one finds the Lord; anyone can try and see. |

ਹਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਭੇਟੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥ |
har kirapaa thae sathigur paaeeai bhaettai sehaj subhaae || |
By the Lord's Grace, the True Guru is found, and then the Lord is met with intuitive ease. |

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਇਆ ਬਿਨੁ ਭਾਗਾ ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਨ ਪਾਇ ॥੫॥ |
manamukh bharam bhulaaeiaa bin bhaagaa har dhhan n paae ||5|| |
The self-willed manmukh is deluded by doubt; without good destiny, the Lord's wealth is not obtained. ||5|| |
|
ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਸਭਾ ਧਾਤੁ ਹੈ ਪੜਿ ਪੜਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥ |
thrai gun sabhaa dhhaath hai parr parr karehi veechaar || |
The three dispositions are completely distracting; people read and study and contemplate them. |

ਮੁਕਤਿ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਹੋਵਈ ਨਹੁ ਪਾਇਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਮੋਖ ਦੁਆਰੁ ॥ |
mukath kadhae n hovee nahu paaeinih mokh dhuaar || |
Those people are never liberated; they do not find the Door of Salvation. |

ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬੰਧਨ ਨ ਤੁਟਹੀ ਨਾਮਿ ਨ ਲਗੈ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥੬॥ |
bin sathigur bandhhan n thuttehee naam n lagai piaar ||6|| |
Without the True Guru, they are never released from bondage; they do not embrace love for the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||6|| |

ਪੜਿ ਪੜਿ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਮੋਨੀ ਥਕੇ ਬੇਦਾਂ ਕਾ ਅਭਿਆਸੁ ॥ |
parr parr panddith monee thhakae baedhaan kaa abhiaas || |
The Pandits, the religious scholars, and the silent sages, reading and studying the Vedas, have grown weary. |

ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਚਿਤਿ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਨਹ ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਵਾਸੁ ॥ |
har naam chith n aavee neh nij ghar hovai vaas || |
They do not even think of the Lord's Name; they do not dwell in the home of their own inner being. |

ਜਮਕਾਲੁ ਸਿਰਹੁ ਨ ਉਤਰੈ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਕਪਟ ਵਿਣਾਸੁ ॥੭॥ |
jamakaal sirahu n outharai anthar kapatt vinaas ||7|| |
The Messenger of Death hovers over their heads; they are ruined by the deceit within themselves. ||7|| |

ਹਰਿ ਨਾਵੈ ਨੋ ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਪਰਤਾਪਦਾ ਵਿਣੁ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਪਾਇਆ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥ |
har naavai no sabh ko parathaapadhaa vin bhaagaan paaeiaa n jaae || |
Everyone longs for the Name of the Lord; without good destiny, it is not obtained. |

ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟੀਐ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥ |
nadhar karae gur bhaetteeai har naam vasai man aae || |
When the Lord bestows His Glance of Grace, the mortal meets the True Guru, and the Lord's Name comes to dwell within the mind. |

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੇ ਹੀ ਪਤਿ ਊਪਜੈ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਰਹਾਂ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੮॥੨॥ |
naanak naamae hee path oopajai har sio rehaan samaae ||8||2|| |
O Nanak, through the Name, honor wells up, and the mortal remains immersed in the Lord. ||8||2|| |

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਕਾਰੈ ਲਾਏ ॥ |
har har kirapaa karae gur kee kaarai laaeae || |
When the Lord shows His Mercy, He enjoins the mortal to work for the Guru. |

ਦੁਖੁ ਪਲ੍ਹ੍ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸਾਏ ॥ |
dhukh palhar har naam vasaaeae || |
His pains are taken away and the Lord's Name comes to dwell within. |

ਸਾਚੀ ਗਤਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਏ ॥ |
saachee gath saachai chith laaeae || |
True deliverance comes by focusing one's consciousness on the True Lord. |

man maerae har har saev nidhhaan || |
O my mind, serve the Lord, Har, Har, the true treasure. |

ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਲਾਗੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਧਿਆਨੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
gur kirapaa thae har dhhan paaeeai anadhin laagai sehaj dhhiaan ||1|| rehaao || |
By Guru's Grace, the wealth of the Lord is obtained. Night and day, focus your meditation on the Lord. ||1||Pause|| |

ਬਿਨੁ ਪਿਰ ਕਾਮਣਿ ਕਰੇ ਸਂੀਗਾਰੁ ॥ |
bin pir kaaman karae sanaeegaar || |
The soul-bride who adorns herself without her Husband Lord, |

ਦੁਹਚਾਰਣੀ ਕਹੀਐ ਨਿਤ ਹੋਇ ਖੁਆਰੁ ॥ |
dhuhachaaranee keheeai nith hoe khuaar || |
is ill-mannered and vile, wasted away into ruin. |
|
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਕਾ ਇਹੁ ਬਾਦਿ ਆਚਾਰੁ ॥ |
manamukh kaa eihu baadh aachaar || |
This is the useless way of life of the self-willed manmukh. |
|
ਬਹੁ ਕਰਮ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਵਹਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿ ॥੨॥ |
bahu karam dhrirraavehi naam visaar ||2|| |
Forgetting the Naam, the Name of the Lord, he performs all sorts of empty rituals. ||2|| |

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕਾਮਣਿ ਬਣਿਆ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ॥ |
guramukh kaaman baniaa seegaar || |
The bride who is Gurmukh is beautifully embellished. |
|
ਸਬਦੇ ਪਿਰੁ ਰਾਖਿਆ ਉਰ ਧਾਰਿ ॥ |
sabadhae pir raakhiaa our dhhaar || |
Through the Word of the Shabad, she enshrines her Husband Lord within her heart. |
|
ਏਕੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ॥ |
eaek pashhaanai houmai maar || |
She realizes the One Lord, and subdues her ego. |
|
ਸੋਭਾਵੰਤੀ ਕਹੀਐ ਨਾਰਿ ॥੩॥ |
sobhaavanthee keheeai naar ||3|| |
That soul-bride is virtuous and noble. ||3|| |
|
ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਦਾਤੇ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ |
bin gur dhaathae kinai n paaeiaa || |
Without the Guru, the Giver, no one finds the Lord. |
|
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਲੋਭਿ ਦੂਜੈ ਲੋਭਾਇਆ ॥ |
manamukh lobh dhoojai lobhaaeiaa || |
The greedy self-willed manmukh is attracted and engrossed in duality. |
|
ਐਸੇ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਬੂਝਹੁ ਕੋਇ ॥ |
aisae giaanee boojhahu koe || |
Only a few spiritual teachers realize this, |
|
ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਭੇਟੇ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥੪॥ |
bin gur bhaettae mukath n hoe ||4|| |
that without meeting the Guru, liberation is not obtained. ||4|| |
|
ਕਹਿ ਕਹਿ ਕਹਣੁ ਕਹੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਇ ॥ |
kehi kehi kehan kehai sabh koe || |
Everyone tells the stories told by others. |
|
ਬਿਨੁ ਮਨ ਮੂਏ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥ |
bin man mooeae bhagath n hoe || |
Without subduing the mind, devotional worship does not come. |
|
ਗਿਆਨ ਮਤੀ ਕਮਲ ਪਰਗਾਸੁ ॥ |
giaan mathee kamal paragaas || |
When the intellect achieves spiritual wisdom, the heart-lotus blossoms forth. |
|
ਤਿਤੁ ਘਟਿ ਨਾਮੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਨਿਵਾਸੁ ॥੫॥ |
thith ghatt naamai naam nivaas ||5|| |
The Naam, the Name of the Lord, comes to abide in that heart. ||5|| |
|
ਹਉਮੈ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਇ ॥ |
houmai bhagath karae sabh koe || |
In egotism, everyone can pretend to worship God with devotion. |
|
ਨਾ ਮਨੁ ਭੀਜੈ ਨਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥ |
naa man bheejai naa sukh hoe || |
But this does not soften the mind, and it does not bring peace. |
|
ਕਹਿ ਕਹਿ ਕਹਣੁ ਆਪੁ ਜਾਣਾਏ ॥ |
kehi kehi kehan aap jaanaaeae || |
By speaking and preaching, the mortal only shows off his self-conceit. |
|
ਬਿਰਥੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਸਭੁ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਏ ॥੬॥ |
birathhee bhagath sabh janam gavaaeae ||6|| |
His devotional worship is useless, and his life is a total waste. ||6|| |
|
ਸੇ ਭਗਤ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਏ ॥ |
sae bhagath sathigur man bhaaeae || |
They alone are devotees, who are pleasing to the Mind of the True Guru. |
|
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਹੇ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਏ ॥ |
anadhin naam rehae liv laaeae || |
Night and day, they remain lovingly attuned to the Name. |
|
ਸਦ ਹੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਵੇਖਹਿ ਹਜੂਰਿ ॥ |
sadh hee naam vaekhehi hajoor || |
They behold the Naam, the Name of the Lord, ever-present, near at hand. |
