| ਦੂਖਾ ਤੇ ਸੁਖ ਊਪਜਹਿ ਸੂਖੀ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਦੂਖ ॥ |
| dhookhaa thae sukh oopajehi sookhee hovehi dhookh || |
| Out of pain, pleasure is produced, and out of pleasure comes pain. |

| ਜਿਤੁ ਮੁਖਿ ਤੂ ਸਾਲਾਹੀਅਹਿ ਤਿਤੁ ਮੁਖਿ ਕੈਸੀ ਭੂਖ ॥੩॥ |
| jith mukh thoo saalaaheeahi thith mukh kaisee bhookh ||3|| |
| That mouth which praises You - what hunger could that mouth ever suffer? ||3|| |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਮੂਰਖੁ ਏਕੁ ਤੂ ਅਵਰੁ ਭਲਾ ਸੈਸਾਰੁ ॥ |
| naanak moorakh eaek thoo avar bhalaa saisaar || |
| O Nanak, you alone are foolish; all the rest of the world is good. |

| ਜਿਤੁ ਤਨਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਊਪਜੈ ਸੇ ਤਨ ਹੋਹਿ ਖੁਆਰ ॥੪॥੨॥ |
| jith than naam n oopajai sae than hohi khuaar ||4||2|| |
| That body in which the Naam does not well up - that body becomes miserable. ||4||2|| |

| jai kaaran baedh brehamai oucharae sankar shhoddee maaeiaa || |
| For His sake, Brahma uttered the Vedas, and Shiva renounced Maya. |

| ਜੈ ਕਾਰਣਿ ਸਿਧ ਭਏ ਉਦਾਸੀ ਦੇਵੀ ਮਰਮੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੧॥ |
| jai kaaran sidhh bheae oudhaasee dhaevee maram n paaeiaa ||1|| |
| For His sake, the Siddhas became hermits and renunciates; even the gods have not realized His Mystery. ||1|| |

| ਬਾਬਾ ਮਨਿ ਸਾਚਾ ਮੁਖਿ ਸਾਚਾ ਕਹੀਐ ਤਰੀਐ ਸਾਚਾ ਹੋਈ ॥ |
| baabaa man saachaa mukh saachaa keheeai thareeai saachaa hoee || |
| O Baba, keep the True Lord in your mind, and utter the Name of the True Lord with your mouth; the True Lord will carry you across. |

| ਦੁਸਮਨੁ ਦੂਖੁ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਨੇੜੈ ਹਰਿ ਮਤਿ ਪਾਵੈ ਕੋਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| dhusaman dhookh n aavai naerrai har math paavai koee ||1|| rehaao || |
| Enemies and pain shall not even approach you; only a rare few realize the Wisdom of the Lord. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਅਗਨਿ ਬਿੰਬ ਪਵਣੈ ਕੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਤੀਨਿ ਨਾਮ ਕੇ ਦਾਸਾ ॥ |
| agan binb pavanai kee baanee theen naam kae dhaasaa || |
| Fire, water and air make up the world; these three are the slaves of the Naam, the Name of the Lord. |

| ਤੇ ਤਸਕਰ ਜੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਲੇਵਹਿ ਵਾਸਹਿ ਕੋਟ ਪੰਚਾਸਾ ॥੨॥ |
| thae thasakar jo naam n laevehi vaasehi kott panchaasaa ||2|| |
| One who does not chant the Naam is a thief, dwelling in the fortress of the five thieves. ||2|| |

| ਜੇ ਕੋ ਏਕ ਕਰੈ ਚੰਗਿਆਈ ਮਨਿ ਚਿਤਿ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਬਫਾਵੈ ॥ |
| jae ko eaek karai changiaaee man chith bahuth bafaavai || |
| If someone does a good deed for someone else, he totally puffs himself up in his conscious mind. |

| ਏਤੇ ਗੁਣ ਏਤੀਆ ਚੰਗਿਆਈਆ ਦੇਇ ਨ ਪਛੋਤਾਵੈ ॥੩॥ |
| eaethae gun eaetheeaa changiaaeeaa dhaee n pashhothaavai ||3|| |
| The Lord bestows so many virtues and so much goodness; He does not ever regret it. ||3|| |

| ਤੁਧੁ ਸਾਲਾਹਨਿ ਤਿਨ ਧਨੁ ਪਲੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਾ ਧਨੁ ਸੋਈ ॥ |
| thudhh saalaahan thin dhhan palai naanak kaa dhhan soee || |
| Those who praise You gather the wealth in their laps; this is Nanak's wealth. |

| ਜੇ ਕੋ ਜੀਉ ਕਹੈ ਓਨਾ ਕਉ ਜਮ ਕੀ ਤਲਬ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥੪॥੩॥ |
| jae ko jeeo kehai ounaa ko jam kee thalab n hoee ||4||3|| |
| Whoever shows respect to them is not summoned by the Messenger of Death. ||4||3|| |

| One who has no beauty, no social status, no mouth, no flesh |

| ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲੇ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਤੇਰੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਹੈ ਨਿਵਾਸਾ ॥੧॥ |
| sathigur milae niranjan paaeiaa thaerai naam hai nivaasaa ||1|| |
| - meeting with the True Guru, he finds the Immaculate Lord, and dwells in Your Name. ||1|| |

| ਅਉਧੂ ਸਹਜੇ ਤਤੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਿ ॥ |

| O detached Yogi, contemplate the essence of reality, |

| ਜਾ ਤੇ ਫਿਰਿ ਨ ਆਵਹੁ ਸੈਸਾਰਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |

| ਜਾ ਕੈ ਕਰਮੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਧਰਮੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਨਾਹੀ ਸੁਚਿ ਮਾਲਾ ॥ |

| One who does not have good karma or Dharmic faith, sacred rosary or mala |

| ਸਿਵ ਜੋਤਿ ਕੰਨਹੁ ਬੁਧਿ ਪਾਈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਰਖਵਾਲਾ ॥੨॥ |
| siv joth kannahu budhh paaee sathiguroo rakhavaalaa ||2|| |
| - through the Light of God, wisdom is bestowed; the True Guru is our Protector. ||2|| |

| ਜਾ ਕੈ ਬਰਤੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਨੇਮੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਨਾਹੀ ਬਕਬਾਈ ॥ |
| jaa kai barath naahee naem naahee naahee bakabaaee || |
| One who does not observe any fasts, make religious vows or chant |

| ਗਤਿ ਅਵਗਤਿ ਕੀ ਚਿੰਤ ਨਾਹੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਫੁਰਮਾਈ ॥੩॥ |
| gath avagath kee chinth naahee sathiguroo furamaaee ||3|| |
| - he does not have to worry about good luck or bad, if he obeys the Command of the True Guru. ||3|| |

| ਜਾ ਕੈ ਆਸ ਨਾਹੀ ਨਿਰਾਸ ਨਾਹੀ ਚਿਤਿ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਸਮਝਾਈ ॥ |
| jaa kai aas naahee niraas naahee chith surath samajhaaee || |
| One who is not hopeful, nor hopeless, who has trained his intuitive consciousness |

| ਤੰਤ ਕਉ ਪਰਮ ਤੰਤੁ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਬੁਧਿ ਪਾਈ ॥੪॥੪॥ |
| thanth ko param thanth miliaa naanakaa budhh paaee ||4||4|| |
| - his being blends with the Supreme Being. O Nanak, his awareness is awakened. ||4||4|| |

| ਬਿਖੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਦੁਇ ਸਮ ਕਰਿ ਜਾਣੁ ॥੧॥ |
| bikh anmrith dhue sam kar jaan ||1|| |
| He looks upon poison and nectar as one and the same. ||1|| |

| ਕਿਆ ਕਹੀਐ ਸਰਬੇ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਇ ॥ |
| kiaa keheeai sarabae rehiaa samaae || |
| What can I say? You are permeating and pervading all. |

| ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਵਰਤੈ ਸਭ ਤੇਰੀ ਰਜਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| jo kishh varathai sabh thaeree rajaae ||1|| rehaao || |
| Whatever happens, is all by Your Will. ||1||Pause|| |

| The Divine Light shines radiantly, and egotistical pride is dispelled. |

| ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਆ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ॥੨॥ |
| sathigur dheeaa anmrith naam ||2|| |
| The True Guru bestows the Ambrosial Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||2|| |

| ਕਲਿ ਮਹਿ ਆਇਆ ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਜਾਣੁ ॥ |
| kal mehi aaeiaa so jan jaan || |
| In this Dark Age of Kali Yuga, one's birth is approved, |

| ਸਾਚੀ ਦਰਗਹ ਪਾਵੈ ਮਾਣੁ ॥੩॥ |
| saachee dharageh paavai maan ||3|| |
| if one is honored in the True Court. ||3|| |
 |
| ਕਹਣਾ ਸੁਨਣਾ ਅਕਥ ਘਰਿ ਜਾਇ ॥ |
| kehanaa sunanaa akathh ghar jaae || |
| Speaking and listening, one goes to the Celestial Home of the Indescribable Lord. |

| ਕਥਨੀ ਬਦਨੀ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਲਿ ਜਾਇ ॥੪॥੫॥ |
| kathhanee badhanee naanak jal jaae ||4||5|| |
| Mere words of mouth, O Nanak, are burnt away. ||4||5|| |

| anmrith neer giaan man majan athasath theerathh sang gehae || |
| One who bathes in the Ambrosial Water of spiritual wisdom takes with him the virtues of the sixty-eight sacred shrines of pilgrimage. |

| ਗੁਰ ਉਪਦੇਸਿ ਜਵਾਹਰ ਮਾਣਕ ਸੇਵੇ ਸਿਖੁ ਸ+ ਖੋਜਿ ਲਹੈ ॥੧॥ |
| gur oupadhaes javaahar maanak saevae sikh suo khoj lehai ||1|| |
| The Guru's Teachings are the gems and jewels; the Sikh who serves Him searches and finds them. ||1|| |

| ਗੁਰ ਸਮਾਨਿ ਤੀਰਥੁ ਨਹੀ ਕੋਇ ॥ |
| gur samaan theerathh nehee koe || |
| There is no sacred shrine equal to the Guru. |

| ਸਰੁ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਤਾਸੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
