ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਦੇਹਿ ਮਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ॥ |
aapae hee prabh dhaehi math har naam dhhiaaeeai || |
God Himself bestows wisdom; meditate on the Name of the Lord. |

ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਮੁਖਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪਾਈਐ ॥ |
vaddabhaagee sathigur milai mukh anmrith paaeeai || |
By great good fortune, one meets the True Guru, who places the Ambrosial Nectar in the mouth. |

ਹਉਮੈ ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਬਿਨਸਿ ਜਾਇ ਸਹਜੇ ਸੁਖਿ ਸਮਾਈਐ ॥ |
houmai dhubidhhaa binas jaae sehajae sukh samaaeeai || |
When egotism and duality are eradicated, one intuitively merges in peace. |

ਸਭੁ ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਆਪੇ ਨਾਇ ਲਾਈਐ ॥੨॥ |
sabh aapae aap varathadhaa aapae naae laaeeai ||2|| |
He Himself is All-pervading; He Himself links us to His Name. ||2|| |

ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਗਰਬਿ ਨ ਪਾਇਓ ਅਗਿਆਨ ਇਆਣੇ ॥ |
manamukh garab n paaeiou agiaan eiaanae || |
The self-willed manmukhs, in their arrogant pride, do not find God; they are so ignorant and foolish! |

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਨਾ ਕਰਹਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਪਛੁਤਾਣੇ ॥ |
sathigur saevaa naa karehi fir fir pashhuthaanae || |
They do not serve the True Guru, and in the end, they regret and repent, over and over again. |

ਗਰਭ ਜੋਨੀ ਵਾਸੁ ਪਾਇਦੇ ਗਰਭੇ ਗਲਿ ਜਾਣੇ ॥ |
garabh jonee vaas paaeidhae garabhae gal jaanae || |
They are cast into the womb to be reincarnated, and within the womb, they rot. |

ਮੇਰੇ ਕਰਤੇ ਏਵੈ ਭਾਵਦਾ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਭਰਮਾਣੇ ॥੩॥ |
maerae karathae eaevai bhaavadhaa manamukh bharamaanae ||3|| |
As it pleases my Creator Lord, the self-willed manmukhs wander around lost. ||3|| |

ਮੇਰੈ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਲੇਖੁ ਲਿਖਾਇਆ ਧੁਰਿ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਪੂਰਾ ॥ |
maerai har prabh laekh likhaaeiaa dhhur masathak pooraa || |
My Lord God inscribed the full pre-ordained destiny upon the forehead. |

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਭੇਟਿਆ ਗੁਰੁ ਸੂਰਾ ॥ |
har har naam dhhiaaeiaa bhaettiaa gur sooraa || |
When one meets the Great and Courageous Guru, one meditates on the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. |

ਮੇਰਾ ਪਿਤਾ ਮਾਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਬੰਧਪੁ ਬੀਰਾ ॥ |
maeraa pithaa maathaa har naam hai har bandhhap beeraa || |
The Lord's Name is my mother and father; the Lord is my relative and brother. |

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਬਖਸਿ ਮਿਲਾਇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜਨੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਕੀਰਾ ॥੪॥੩॥੧੭॥੩੭॥ |
har har bakhas milaae prabh jan naanak keeraa ||4||3||17||37|| |
O Lord, Har, Har, please forgive me and unite me with Yourself. Servant Nanak is a lowly worm. ||4||3||17||37|| |

From the True Guru, I obtained spiritual wisdom; I contemplate the Lord's essence. |

ਮਤਿ ਮਲੀਣ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਭਈ ਜਪਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੁਰਾਰਾ ॥ |
math maleen paragatt bhee jap naam muraaraa || |
My polluted intellect was enlightened by chanting the Naam, the Name of the Lord. |

ਸਿਵਿ ਸਕਤਿ ਮਿਟਾਈਆ ਚੂਕਾ ਅੰਧਿਆਰਾ ॥ |
siv sakath mittaaeeaa chookaa andhhiaaraa || |
The distinction between Shiva and Shakti - mind and matter - has been destroyed, and the darkness has been dispelled. |

ਧੁਰਿ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਤਿਨ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਿਆਰਾ ॥੧॥ |
dhhur masathak jin ko likhiaa thin har naam piaaraa ||1|| |
The Lord's Name is loved by those, upon whose foreheads such pre-ordained destiny was written. ||1|| |

ਹਰਿ ਕਿਤੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਹੁ ਜਿਸੁ ਦੇਖਿ ਹਉ ਜੀਵਾ ॥ |
har kith bidhh paaeeai santh janahu jis dhaekh ho jeevaa || |
How can the Lord be obtained, O Saints? Seeing Him, my life is sustained. |

ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਚਸਾ ਨ ਜੀਵਤੀ ਗੁਰ ਮੇਲਿਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਵਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
har bin chasaa n jeevathee gur maelihu har ras peevaa ||1|| rehaao || |
Without the Lord, I cannot live, even for an instant. Unite me with the Guru, so that I may drink in the sublime essence of the Lord. ||1||Pause|| |

ਹਉ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਾ ਨਿਤ ਹਰਿ ਸੁਣੀ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਗਤਿ ਕੀਨੀ ॥ |
ho har gun gaavaa nith har sunee har har gath keenee || |
I sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, and I listen to them daily; the Lord, Har, Har, has emancipated me. |

ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਪਾਇਆ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਲੀਨੀ ॥ |
har ras gur thae paaeiaa maeraa man than leenee || |
I have obtained the Lord's essence from the Guru; my mind and body are drenched with it. |

ਧਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਸਤ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਹੈ ਜਿਨਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਦੀਨੀ ॥ |
dhhan dhhan gur sath purakh hai jin bhagath har dheenee || |
Blessed, blessed is the Guru, the True Being, who has blessed me with devotional worship of the Lord. |

ਜਿਸੁ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਸੋ ਗੁਰੁ ਹਮ ਕੀਨੀ ॥੨॥ |
jis gur thae har paaeiaa so gur ham keenee ||2|| |
From the Guru, I have obtained the Lord; I have made Him my Guru. ||2|| |

ਗੁਣਦਾਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇ ਹੈ ਹਮ ਅਵਗਣਿਆਰੇ ॥ |
gunadhaathaa har raae hai ham avaganiaarae || |
The Sovereign Lord is the Giver of virtue. I am worthless and without virtue. |

ਪਾਪੀ ਪਾਥਰ ਡੂਬਦੇ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਤਾਰੇ ॥ |
paapee paathhar ddoobadhae guramath har thaarae || |
The sinners sink like stones; through the Guru's Teachings, the Lord carries us across. |

ਤੂੰ ਗੁਣਦਾਤਾ ਨਿਰਮਲਾ ਹਮ ਅਵਗਣਿਆਰੇ ॥ |
thoon gunadhaathaa niramalaa ham avaganiaarae || |
You are the Giver of virtue, O Immaculate Lord; I am worthless and without virtue. |

ਹਰਿ ਸਰਣਾਗਤਿ ਰਾਖਿ ਲੇਹੁ ਮੂੜ ਮੁਗਧ ਨਿਸਤਾਰੇ ॥੩॥ |
har saranaagath raakh laehu moorr mugadhh nisathaarae ||3|| |
I have entered Your Sanctuary, Lord; please save me, as You have saved the idiots and fools. ||3|| |

ਸਹਜੁ ਅਨੰਦੁ ਸਦਾ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥ |
sehaj anandh sadhaa guramathee har har man dhhiaaeiaa || |
Eternal celestial bliss comes through the Guru's Teachings, by meditating continually on the Lord, Har, Har. |

ਸਜਣੁ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਘਰਿ ਸੋਹਿਲਾ ਗਾਇਆ ॥ |
sajan har prabh paaeiaa ghar sohilaa gaaeiaa || |
I have obtained the Lord God as my Best Friend, within the home of my own self. I sing the Songs of Joy. |

ਹਰਿ ਦਇਆ ਧਾਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਚੇਤਾਇਆ ॥ |
har dhaeiaa dhhaar prabh baenathee har har chaethaaeiaa || |
Please shower me with Your Mercy, O Lord God, that I may meditate on Your Name, Har, Har. |

ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਮੰਗੈ ਧੂੜਿ ਤਿਨ ਜਿਨ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੪॥੧੮॥੩੮॥ |
jan naanak mangai dhhoorr thin jin sathigur paaeiaa ||4||4||18||38|| |
Servant Nanak begs for the dust of the feet of those who have found the True Guru. ||4||4||18||38|| |

The Pandit - the religious scholar - recites the Shaastras and the Simritees; |

ਜੋਗੀ ਗੋਰਖੁ ਗੋਰਖੁ ਕਰਿਆ ॥ |
jogee gorakh gorakh kariaa || |
the Yogi cries out, ""Gorakh, Gorakh"". |

ਮੈ ਮੂਰਖ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਪੁ ਪੜਿਆ ॥੧॥ |
mai moorakh har har jap parriaa ||1|| |
But I am just a fool - I just chant the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. ||1|| |

ਨਾ ਜਾਨਾ ਕਿਆ ਗਤਿ ਰਾਮ ਹਮਾਰੀ ॥ |
naa jaanaa kiaa gath raam hamaaree || |
I do not know what my condition shall be, Lord. |
|
ਹਰਿ ਭਜੁ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਤਰੁ ਭਉਜਲੁ ਤੂ ਤਾਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
har bhaj man maerae thar bhoujal thoo thaaree ||1|| rehaao || |
O my mind, vibrate and meditate on the Name of the Lord. You shall cross over the terrifying world-ocean. ||1||Pause|| |
