ਮਿਥਿਆ ਨੇਤ੍ਰ ਪੇਖਤ ਪਰ ਤ੍ਰਿਅ ਰੂਪਾਦ ॥ |
mithhiaa naethr paekhath par thria roopaadh || |
False are the eyes which gaze upon the beauty of another's wife. |

ਮਿਥਿਆ ਰਸਨਾ ਭੋਜਨ ਅਨ ਸ੍ਵਾਦ ॥ |
mithhiaa rasanaa bhojan an svaadh || |
False is the tongue which enjoys delicacies and external tastes. |
|
ਮਿਥਿਆ ਚਰਨ ਪਰ ਬਿਕਾਰ ਕਉ ਧਾਵਹਿ ॥ |
mithhiaa charan par bikaar ko dhhaavehi || |
False are the feet which run to do evil to others. |
|
ਮਿਥਿਆ ਮਨ ਪਰ ਲੋਭ ਲੁਭਾਵਹਿ ॥ |
mithhiaa man par lobh lubhaavehi || |
False is the mind which covets the wealth of others. |
|
ਮਿਥਿਆ ਤਨ ਨਹੀ ਪਰਉਪਕਾਰਾ ॥ |
mithhiaa than nehee paroupakaaraa || |
False is the body which does not do good to others. |
|
ਮਿਥਿਆ ਬਾਸੁ ਲੇਤ ਬਿਕਾਰਾ ॥ |
mithhiaa baas laeth bikaaraa || |
False is the nose which inhales corruption. |
|
ਬਿਨੁ ਬੂਝੇ ਮਿਥਿਆ ਸਭ ਭਏ ॥ |
bin boojhae mithhiaa sabh bheae || |
Without understanding, everything is false. |
|
ਸਫਲ ਦੇਹ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਲਏ ॥੫॥ |
safal dhaeh naanak har har naam leae ||5|| |
Fruitful is the body, O Nanak, which takes to the Lord's Name. ||5|| |

ਬਿਰਥੀ ਸਾਕਤ ਕੀ ਆਰਜਾ ॥ |
birathhee saakath kee aarajaa || |
The life of the faithless cynic is totally useless. |
|
ਸਾਚ ਬਿਨਾ ਕਹ ਹੋਵਤ ਸੂਚਾ ॥ |
saach binaa keh hovath soochaa || |
Without the Truth, how can anyone be pure? |

ਬਿਰਥਾ ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਤਨੁ ਅੰਧ ॥ |
birathhaa naam binaa than andhh || |
Useless is the body of the spiritually blind, without the Name of the Lord. |
|
ਮੁਖਿ ਆਵਤ ਤਾ ਕੈ ਦੁਰਗੰਧ ॥ |
mukh aavath thaa kai dhuragandhh || |
From his mouth, a foul smell issues forth. |
|
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦਿਨੁ ਰੈਨਿ ਬ੍ਰਿਥਾ ਬਿਹਾਇ ॥ |
bin simaran dhin rain brithhaa bihaae || |
Without the remembrance of the Lord, day and night pass in vain, |

ਮੇਘ ਬਿਨਾ ਜਿਉ ਖੇਤੀ ਜਾਇ ॥ |
maegh binaa jio khaethee jaae || |
like the crop which withers without rain. |
|
ਗੋਬਿਦ ਭਜਨ ਬਿਨੁ ਬ੍ਰਿਥੇ ਸਭ ਕਾਮ ॥ |
gobidh bhajan bin brithhae sabh kaam || |
Without meditation on the Lord of the Universe, all works are in vain, |
|
ਜਿਉ ਕਿਰਪਨ ਕੇ ਨਿਰਾਰਥ ਦਾਮ ॥ |
jio kirapan kae niraarathh dhaam || |
like the wealth of a miser, which lies useless. |
|
ਧੰਨਿ ਧੰਨਿ ਤੇ ਜਨ ਜਿਹ ਘਟਿ ਬਸਿਓ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਉ ॥ |
dhhann dhhann thae jan jih ghatt basiou har naao || |
Blessed, blessed are those, whose hearts are filled with the Name of the Lord. |

ਨਾਨਕ ਤਾ ਕੈ ਬਲਿ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਉ ॥੬॥ |
naanak thaa kai bal bal jaao ||6|| |
Nanak is a sacrifice, a sacrifice to them. ||6|| |

ਰਹਤ ਅਵਰ ਕਛੁ ਅਵਰ ਕਮਾਵਤ ॥ |
rehath avar kashh avar kamaavath || |
He says one thing, and does something else. |
|
ਮਨਿ ਨਹੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਮੁਖਹੁ ਗੰਢ ਲਾਵਤ ॥ |
man nehee preeth mukhahu gandt laavath || |
There is no love in his heart, and yet with his mouth he talks tall. |
|
ਜਾਨਨਹਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪਰਬੀਨ ॥ |
jaananehaar prabhoo parabeen || |
The Omniscient Lord God is the Knower of all. |
|
ਬਾਹਰਿ ਭੇਖ ਨ ਕਾਹੂ ਭੀਨ ॥ |
baahar bhaekh n kaahoo bheen || |
He is not impressed by outward display. |
|
ਅਵਰ ਉਪਦੇਸੈ ਆਪਿ ਨ ਕਰੈ ॥ |
avar oupadhaesai aap n karai || |
One who does not practice what he preaches to others, |
|
ਆਵਤ ਜਾਵਤ ਜਨਮੈ ਮਰੈ ॥ |
aavath jaavath janamai marai || |
shall come and go in reincarnation, through birth and death. |
|
ਜਿਸ ਕੈ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਸੈ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੁ ॥ |
jis kai anthar basai nirankaar || |
One whose inner being is filled with the Formless Lord |
|
ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਸੀਖ ਤਰੈ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥ |
this kee seekh tharai sansaar || |
by his teachings, the world is saved. |
|
ਜੋ ਤੁਮ ਭਾਨੇ ਤਿਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਜਾਤਾ ॥ |
jo thum bhaanae thin prabh jaathaa || |
Those who are pleasing to You, God, know You. |
|
ਨਾਨਕ ਉਨ ਜਨ ਚਰਨ ਪਰਾਤਾ ॥੭॥ |
naanak oun jan charan paraathaa ||7|| |
Nanak falls at their feet. ||7|| |
|
ਕਰਉ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਸਭੁ ਜਾਨੈ ॥ |
karo baenathee paarabreham sabh jaanai || |
Offer your prayers to the Supreme Lord God, who knows everything. |

ਅਪਨਾ ਕੀਆ ਆਪਹਿ ਮਾਨੈ ॥ |
apanaa keeaa aapehi maanai || |
He Himself values His own creatures. |
|
ਆਪਹਿ ਆਪ ਆਪਿ ਕਰਤ ਨਿਬੇਰਾ ॥ |
aapehi aap aap karath nibaeraa || |
He Himself, by Himself, makes the decisions. |
|
ਕਿਸੈ ਦੂਰਿ ਜਨਾਵਤ ਕਿਸੈ ਬੁਝਾਵਤ ਨੇਰਾ ॥ |
kisai dhoor janaavath kisai bujhaavath naeraa || |
To some, He appears far away, while others perceive Him near at hand. |
|
ਉਪਾਵ ਸਿਆਨਪ ਸਗਲ ਤੇ ਰਹਤ ॥ |
oupaav siaanap sagal thae rehath || |
He is beyond all efforts and clever tricks. |
|
ਸਭੁ ਕਛੁ ਜਾਨੈ ਆਤਮ ਕੀ ਰਹਤ ॥ |
sabh kashh jaanai aatham kee rehath || |
He knows all the ways and means of the soul. |
|
ਜਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਲਏ ਲੜਿ ਲਾਇ ॥ |
jis bhaavai this leae larr laae || |
Those with whom He is pleased are attached to the hem of His robe. |
|
ਥਾਨ ਥਨੰਤਰਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਇ ॥ |
thhaan thhananthar rehiaa samaae || |
He is pervading all places and interspaces. |
|
ਸੋ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਜਿਸੁ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰੀ ॥ |
so saevak jis kirapaa karee || |
Those upon whom He bestows His favor, become His servants. |
|
ਨਿਮਖ ਨਿਮਖ ਜਪਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰੀ ॥੮॥੫॥ |
nimakh nimakh jap naanak haree ||8||5|| |
Each and every moment, O Nanak, meditate on the Lord. ||8||5|| |

ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਅਰੁ ਲੋਭ ਮੋਹ ਬਿਨਸਿ ਜਾਇ ਅਹੰਮੇਵ ॥ |
kaam krodhh ar lobh moh binas jaae ahanmaev || |
Sexual desire, anger, greed and emotional attachment - may these be gone, and egotism as well. |

ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਰਣਾਗਤੀ ਕਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦੁ ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ॥੧॥ |
naanak prabh saranaagathee kar prasaadh guradhaev ||1|| |
Nanak seeks the Sanctuary of God; please bless me with Your Grace, O Divine Guru. ||1|| |

ਜਿਹ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਛਤੀਹ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਖਾਹਿ ॥ |
jih prasaadh shhatheeh anmrith khaahi || |
By His Grace, you partake of the thirty-six delicacies; |
|
ਤਿਸੁ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਕਉ ਰਖੁ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ॥ |
this thaakur ko rakh man maahi || |
enshrine that Lord and Master within your mind. |
|
ਜਿਹ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਸੁਗੰਧਤ ਤਨਿ ਲਾਵਹਿ ॥ |
jih prasaadh sugandhhath than laavehi || |
By His Grace, you apply scented oils to your body; |
|
ਤਿਸ ਕਉ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਪਰਮ ਗਤਿ ਪਾਵਹਿ ॥ |
this ko simarath param gath paavehi || |
remembering Him, the supreme status is obtained. |
|
ਜਿਹ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਬਸਹਿ ਸੁਖ ਮੰਦਰਿ ॥ |
jih prasaadh basehi sukh mandhar || |
By His Grace, you dwell in the palace of peace; |
|
ਤਿਸਹਿ ਧਿਆਇ ਸਦਾ ਮਨ ਅੰਦਰਿ ॥ |
thisehi dhhiaae sadhaa man andhar || |
meditate forever on Him within your mind. |
|
ਜਿਹ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਸੰਗਿ ਸੁਖ ਬਸਨਾ ॥ |
jih prasaadh grih sang sukh basanaa || |
By His Grace, you abide with your family in peace; |
|
ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਸਿਮਰਹੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਰਸਨਾ ॥ |
aath pehar simarahu this rasanaa || |
keep His remembrance upon your tongue, twenty-four hours a day. |
|
ਜਿਹ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਰੰਗ ਰਸ ਭੋਗ ॥ |
jih prasaadh rang ras bhog || |
By His Grace, you enjoy tastes and pleasures; |
|
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਦਾ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਧਿਆਵਨ ਜੋਗ ॥੧॥ |
naanak sadhaa dhhiaaeeai dhhiaavan jog ||1|| |
O Nanak, meditate forever on the One, who is worthy of meditation. ||1|| |

ਜਿਹ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਪਾਟ ਪਟੰਬਰ ਹਢਾਵਹਿ ॥ |
jih prasaadh paatt pattanbar hadtaavehi || |
By His Grace, you wear silks and satins; |
|
ਤਿਸਹਿ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਕਤ ਅਵਰ ਲੁਭਾਵਹਿ ॥ |
thisehi thiaag kath avar lubhaavehi || |
why abandon Him, to attach yourself to another? |
|
ਜਿਹ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਸੁਖਿ ਸੇਜ ਸੋਈਜੈ ॥ |
jih prasaadh sukh saej soeejai || |
By His Grace, you sleep in a cozy bed; |
|
ਮਨ ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਤਾ ਕਾ ਜਸੁ ਗਾਵੀਜੈ ॥ |
man aath pehar thaa kaa jas gaaveejai || |
O my mind, sing His Praises, twenty-four hours a day. |
|
ਜਿਹ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਤੁਝੁ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਊ ਮਾਨੈ ॥ |
jih prasaadh thujh sabh kooo maanai || |
By His Grace, you are honored by everyone; |
