| ਓਹੁ ਜੇਵ ਸਾਇਰ ਦੇਇ ਲਹਰੀ ਬਿਜੁਲ ਜਿਵੈ ਚਮਕਏ ॥ |
| ouhu jaev saaeir dhaee leharee bijul jivai chamakeae || |
| It is temporary, like the waves on the sea, and the flash of lightning. |

| ਹਰਿ ਬਾਝੁ ਰਾਖਾ ਕੋਇ ਨਾਹੀ ਸੋਇ ਤੁਝਹਿ ਬਿਸਾਰਿਆ ॥ |
| har baajh raakhaa koe naahee soe thujhehi bisaariaa || |
| Without the Lord, there is no other protector, but you have forgotten Him. |

| ਸਚੁ ਕਹੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਚੇਤਿ ਰੇ ਮਨ ਮਰਹਿ ਹਰਣਾ ਕਾਲਿਆ ॥੧॥ |

| Nanak speaks the Truth. Reflect upon it, O mind; you shall die, O black deer. ||1|| |

| ਭਵਰਾ ਫੂਲਿ ਭਵੰਤਿਆ ਦੁਖੁ ਅਤਿ ਭਾਰੀ ਰਾਮ ॥ |
| bhavaraa fool bhavanthiaa dhukh ath bhaaree raam || |
| O bumble bee, you wander among the flowers, but terrible pain awaits you. |

| ਮੈ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਛਿਆ ਆਪਣਾ ਸਾਚਾ ਬੀਚਾਰੀ ਰਾਮ ॥ |
| mai gur pooshhiaa aapanaa saachaa beechaaree raam || |
| I have asked my Guru for true understanding. |

| ਬੀਚਾਰਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮੁਝੈ ਪੂਛਿਆ ਭਵਰੁ ਬੇਲੀ ਰਾਤਓ ॥ |
| beechaar sathigur mujhai pooshhiaa bhavar baelee raathou || |
| I have asked my True Guru for understanding about the bumble bee, who is so involved with the flowers of the garden. |

| ਸੂਰਜੁ ਚੜਿਆ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਪੜਿਆ ਤੇਲੁ ਤਾਵਣਿ ਤਾਤਓ ॥ |
| sooraj charriaa pindd parriaa thael thaavan thaathou || |
| When the sun rises, the body will fall, and it will be cooked in hot oil. |

| ਜਮ ਮਗਿ ਬਾਧਾ ਖਾਹਿ ਚੋਟਾ ਸਬਦ ਬਿਨੁ ਬੇਤਾਲਿਆ ॥ |
| jam mag baadhhaa khaahi chottaa sabadh bin baethaaliaa || |
| You shall be bound and beaten on the road of Death, without the Word of the Shabad, O madman. |

| ਸਚੁ ਕਹੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਚੇਤਿ ਰੇ ਮਨ ਮਰਹਿ ਭਵਰਾ ਕਾਲਿਆ ॥੨॥ |

| ਮੇਰੇ ਜੀਅੜਿਆ ਪਰਦੇਸੀਆ ਕਿਤੁ ਪਵਹਿ ਜੰਜਾਲੇ ਰਾਮ ॥ |
| maerae jeearriaa paradhaeseeaa kith pavehi janjaalae raam || |
| O my stranger soul, why do you fall into entanglements? |

| ਸਾਚਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਕੀ ਫਾਸਹਿ ਜਮ ਜਾਲੇ ਰਾਮ ॥ |
| saachaa saahib man vasai kee faasehi jam jaalae raam || |
| The True Lord abides within your mind; why are you trapped by the noose of Death? |

| ਮਛੁਲੀ ਵਿਛੁੰਨੀ ਨੈਣ ਰੁੰਨੀ ਜਾਲੁ ਬਧਿਕਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ |
| mashhulee vishhunnee nain runnee jaal badhhik paaeiaa || |
| The fish leaves the water with tearful eyes, when the fisherman casts his net. |
 |
| ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਮੀਠਾ ਅੰਤਿ ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ ॥ |
| sansaar maaeiaa mohu meethaa anth bharam chukaaeiaa || |
| The love of Maya is sweet to the world, but in the end, this delusion is dispelled. |

| ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਛੋਡਿ ਮਨਹੁ ਅੰਦੇਸਿਆ ॥ |
| bhagath kar chith laae har sio shhodd manahu andhaesiaa || |
| So perform devotional worship, link your consciousness to the Lord, and dispel anxiety from your mind. |

| ਸਚੁ ਕਹੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਚੇਤਿ ਰੇ ਮਨ ਜੀਅੜਿਆ ਪਰਦੇਸੀਆ ॥੩॥ |
| sach kehai naanak chaeth rae man jeearriaa paradhaeseeaa ||3|| |
| Nanak speaks the Truth; focus your consciousness on the Lord, O my stranger soul. ||3|| |

| ਨਦੀਆ ਵਾਹ ਵਿਛੁੰਨਿਆ ਮੇਲਾ ਸੰਜੋਗੀ ਰਾਮ ॥ |
| nadheeaa vaah vishhunniaa maelaa sanjogee raam || |
| The rivers and streams which separate may sometime be united again. |
 |
| ਜੁਗੁ ਜੁਗੁ ਮੀਠਾ ਵਿਸੁ ਭਰੇ ਕੋ ਜਾਣੈ ਜੋਗੀ ਰਾਮ ॥ |
| jug jug meethaa vis bharae ko jaanai jogee raam || |
| In age after age, that which is sweet, is full of poison; how rare is the Yogi who understands this. |

| ਕੋਈ ਸਹਜਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਹਰਿ ਪਛਾਣੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਜਿਨਿ ਚੇਤਿਆ ॥ |
| koee sehaj jaanai har pashhaanai sathiguroo jin chaethiaa || |
| That rare person who centers his consciousness on the True Guru, knows intuitively and realizes the Lord. |

| ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਮ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੂਲੇ ਪਚਹਿ ਮੁਗਧ ਅਚੇਤਿਆ ॥ |
| bin naam har kae bharam bhoolae pachehi mugadhh achaethiaa || |
| Without the Naam, the Name of the Lord, the thoughtless fools wander in doubt, and are ruined. |

| ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਰਿਦੈ ਸਾਚਾ ਸੇ ਅੰਤਿ ਧਾਹੀ ਰੁੰਨਿਆ ॥ |
| har naam bhagath n ridhai saachaa sae anth dhhaahee runniaa || |
| Those whose hearts are not touched by devotional worship and the Name of the True Lord, shall weep and wail loudly in the end. |

| ਸਚੁ ਕਹੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਮੇਲਿ ਚਿਰੀ ਵਿਛੁੰਨਿਆ ॥੪॥੧॥੫॥ |

| Nanak speaks the Truth; through the True Word of the Shabad, those long separated from the Lord, are united once again. ||4||1||5|| |

| ham gharae saachaa sohilaa saachai sabadh suhaaeiaa raam || |
| Within my home, the true wedding songs of rejoicing are sung; my home is adorned with the True Word of the Shabad. |

| ਧਨ ਪਿਰ ਮੇਲੁ ਭਇਆ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ਰਾਮ ॥ |
| dhhan pir mael bhaeiaa prabh aap milaaeiaa raam || |
| The soul-bride has met her Husband Lord; God Himself has consummated this union. |

| ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ਸਚੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਇਆ ਕਾਮਣਿ ਸਹਜੇ ਮਾਤੀ ॥ |
| prabh aap milaaeiaa sach mann vasaaeiaa kaaman sehajae maathee || |
| God Himself has consummated this union; the soul-bride enshrines Truth within her mind, intoxicated with peaceful poise. |

| ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੀਗਾਰੀ ਸਚਿ ਸਵਾਰੀ ਸਦਾ ਰਾਵੇ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੀ ॥ |
| gur sabadh seegaaree sach savaaree sadhaa raavae rang raathee || |
| Embellished with the Word of the Guru's Shabad, and beautified with Truth, she enjoys her Beloved forever, imbued with His Love. |

| ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਏ ਹਰਿ ਵਰੁ ਪਾਏ ਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਇਆ ॥ |
| aap gavaaeae har var paaeae thaa har ras mann vasaaeiaa || |
| Eradicating her ego, she obtains her Husband Lord, and then, the sublime essence of the Lord dwells within her mind. |

| ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਵਾਰੀ ਸਫਲਿਉ ਜਨਮੁ ਸਬਾਇਆ ॥੧॥ |
| kahu naanak gur sabadh savaaree safalio janam sabaaeiaa ||1|| |
| Says Nanak, fruitful and prosperous is her entire life; she is embellished with the Word of the Guru's Shabad. ||1|| |

| ਦੂਜੜੈ ਕਾਮਣਿ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲੀ ਹਰਿ ਵਰੁ ਨ ਪਾਏ ਰਾਮ ॥ |
| dhoojarrai kaaman bharam bhulee har var n paaeae raam || |
| The soul-bride who has been led astray by duality and doubt, does not attain her Husband Lord. |

| ਕਾਮਣਿ ਗੁਣੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਏ ਰਾਮ ॥ |
| kaaman gun naahee birathhaa janam gavaaeae raam || |
| That soul-bride has no virtue, and she wastes her life in vain. |
 |
| ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਏ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਇਆਣੀ ਅਉਗਣਵੰਤੀ ਝੂਰੇ ॥ |
| birathhaa janam gavaaeae manamukh eiaanee aouganavanthee jhoorae || |
| The self-willed, ignorant and disgraceful manmukh wastes her life in vain, and in the end, she comes to grief. |
 |
| ਆਪਣਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਤਾ ਪਿਰੁ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹਦੂਰੇ ॥ |
| aapanaa sathigur saev sadhaa sukh paaeiaa thaa pir miliaa hadhoorae || |
| But when she serves her True Guru, she obtains peace, and then she meets her Husband Lord, face to face. |

| ਦੇਖਿ ਪਿਰੁ ਵਿਗਸੀ ਅੰਦਰਹੁ ਸਰਸੀ ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਭਾਏ ॥ |
| dhaekh pir vigasee andharahu sarasee sachai sabadh subhaaeae || |
| Beholding her Husband Lord, she blossoms forth; her heart is delighted, and she is beautified by the True Word of the Shabad. |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਵਿਣੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਕਾਮਣਿ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਣੀ ਮਿਲਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ॥੨॥ |
| naanak vin naavai kaaman bharam bhulaanee mil preetham sukh paaeae ||2|| |
| O Nanak, without the Name, the soul-bride wanders around, deluded by doubt. Meeting her Beloved, she obtains peace. ||2|| |
