This she-serpent is created by Him. |

ਬਲੁ ਅਬਲੁ ਕਿਆ ਇਸ ਤੇ ਹੋਈ ॥੪॥ |

What power or weakness does she have by herself? ||4|| |

ਇਹ ਬਸਤੀ ਤਾ ਬਸਤ ਸਰੀਰਾ ॥ |

If she abides with the mortal, then his soul abides in his body. |

ਕਹਾ ਸਾਕਤ ਪਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਏ ॥੧॥ |
kehaa saakath pehi har gun gaaeae ||1|| |
Why bother to sing the Lord's Praises to the faithless cynic? ||1|| |

ਰਾਮ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਮ ਰਮੇ ਰਮਿ ਰਹੀਐ ॥ |
raam raam raam ramae ram reheeai || |
Remain absorbed in the Lord's Name, Raam, Raam, Raam. |

ਸਾਕਤ ਸਿਉ ਭੂਲਿ ਨਹੀ ਕਹੀਐ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |

Do not bother to speak of it to the faithless cynic, even by mistake. ||1||Pause|| |

kooaa kehaa kapoor charaaeae || |
Why offer camphor to a crow? |

ਕਹ ਬਿਸੀਅਰ ਕਉ ਦੂਧੁ ਪੀਆਏ ॥੨॥ |
keh biseear ko dhoodhh peeaaeae ||2|| |
Why give the snake milk to drink? ||2|| |

ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਬਿਬੇਕ ਬੁਧਿ ਹੋਈ ॥ |
sathasangath mil bibaek budhh hoee || |
Joining the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, discriminating understanding is attained. |

ਪਾਰਸੁ ਪਰਸਿ ਲੋਹਾ ਕੰਚਨੁ ਸੋਈ ॥੩॥ |
paaras paras lohaa kanchan soee ||3|| |
That iron which touches the Philosopher's Stone becomes gold. ||3|| |

ਸਾਕਤੁ ਸੁਆਨੁ ਸਭੁ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਇਆ ॥ |
saakath suaan sabh karae karaaeiaa || |
The dog, the faithless cynic, does everything as the Lord causes him to do. |

ਜੋ ਧੁਰਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਸੁ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਇਆ ॥੪॥ |
jo dhhur likhiaa s karam kamaaeiaa ||4|| |
He does the deeds pre-ordained from the very beginning. ||4|| |

ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਲੈ ਲੈ ਨੀਮੁ ਸਿੰਚਾਈ ॥ |
anmrith lai lai neem sinchaaee || |
If you take Ambrosial Nectar and irrigate the neem tree with it, |

ਕਹਤ ਕਬੀਰ ਉਆ ਕੋ ਸਹਜੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥੫॥੭॥੨੦॥ |
kehath kabeer ouaa ko sehaj n jaaee ||5||7||20|| |
still, says Kabeer, its natural qualities are not changed. ||5||7||20|| |

A fortress like that of Sri Lanka, with the ocean as a moat around it |

ਤਿਹ ਰਾਵਨ ਘਰ ਖਬਰਿ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥੧॥ |
thih raavan ghar khabar n paaee ||1|| |
- there is no news about that house of Raavan. ||1|| |

ਕਿਆ ਮਾਗਉ ਕਿਛੁ ਥਿਰੁ ਨ ਰਹਾਈ ॥ |
kiaa maago kishh thhir n rehaaee || |
What shall I ask for? Nothing is permanent. |

ਦੇਖਤ ਨੈਨ ਚਲਿਓ ਜਗੁ ਜਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
dhaekhath nain chaliou jag jaaee ||1|| rehaao || |
I see with my eyes that the world is passing away. ||1||Pause|| |

ਇਕੁ ਲਖੁ ਪੂਤ ਸਵਾ ਲਖੁ ਨਾਤੀ ॥ |
eik lakh pooth savaa lakh naathee || |
Thousands of sons and thousands of grandsons |

ਤਿਹ ਰਾਵਨ ਘਰ ਦੀਆ ਨ ਬਾਤੀ ॥੨॥ |
thih raavan ghar dheeaa n baathee ||2|| |
- but in that house of Raavan, the lamps and wicks have gone out. ||2|| |

ਚੰਦੁ ਸੂਰਜੁ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਤਪਤ ਰਸੋਈ ॥ |
chandh sooraj jaa kae thapath rasoee || |
The moon and the sun cooked his food. |

ਬੈਸੰਤਰੁ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਕਪਰੇ ਧੋਈ ॥੩॥ |
baisanthar jaa kae kaparae dhhoee ||3|| |
The fire washed his clothes. ||3|| |

ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਰਾਮੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਬਸਾਈ ॥ |
guramath raamai naam basaaee || |
Under Guru's Instructions, one whose mind is filled with the Lord's Name, |

ਅਸਥਿਰੁ ਰਹੈ ਨ ਕਤਹੂੰ ਜਾਈ ॥੪॥ |
asathhir rehai n kathehoon jaaee ||4|| |
becomes permanent, and does not go anywhere. ||4|| |

ਕਹਤ ਕਬੀਰ ਸੁਨਹੁ ਰੇ ਲੋਈ ॥ |
kehath kabeer sunahu rae loee || |
Says Kabeer, listen, people: |

First, the son was born, and then, his mother. |

ਗੁਰੁ ਲਾਗੋ ਚੇਲੇ ਕੀ ਪਾਈ ॥੧॥ |

The guru falls at the feet of the disciple. ||1|| |

ਏਕੁ ਅਚੰਭਉ ਸੁਨਹੁ ਤੁਮ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਭਾਈ ॥ |

Listen to this wonderful thing, O Siblings of Destiny! |

I saw the lion herding the cows. ||1||Pause|| |

ਜਲ ਕੀ ਮਛੁਲੀ ਤਰਵਰਿ ਬਿਆਈ ॥ |
jal kee mashhulee tharavar biaaee || |
The fish of the water gives birth upon a tree. |

ਦੇਖਤ ਕੁਤਰਾ ਲੈ ਗਈ ਬਿਲਾਈ ॥੨॥ |
dhaekhath kutharaa lai gee bilaaee ||2|| |
I saw a cat carrying away a dog. ||2|| |

ਤਲੈ ਰੇ ਬੈਸਾ ਊਪਰਿ ਸੂਲਾ ॥ |
thalai rae baisaa oopar soolaa || |
The branches are below, and the roots are above. |

ਤਿਸ ਕੈ ਪੇਡਿ ਲਗੇ ਫਲ ਫੂਲਾ ॥੩॥ |
this kai paedd lagae fal foolaa ||3|| |
The trunk of that tree bears fruits and flowers. ||3|| |

ਘੋਰੈ ਚਰਿ ਭੈਸ ਚਰਾਵਨ ਜਾਈ ॥ |
ghorai char bhais charaavan jaaee || |
Riding a horse, the buffalo takes him out to graze. |

ਬਾਹਰਿ ਬੈਲੁ ਗੋਨਿ ਘਰਿ ਆਈ ॥੪॥ |
baahar bail gon ghar aaee ||4|| |
The bull is away, while his load has come home. ||4|| |

ਕਹਤ ਕਬੀਰ ਜੁ ਇਸ ਪਦ ਬੂਝੈ ॥ |
kehath kabeer j eis padh boojhai || |
Says Kabeer, one who understands this hymn, |

bindh thae jin pindd keeaa agan kundd rehaaeiaa || |
The Lord created the body from sperm, and protected it in the fire pit. |

ਦਸ ਮਾਸ ਮਾਤਾ ਉਦਰਿ ਰਾਖਿਆ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਲਾਗੀ ਮਾਇਆ ॥੧॥ |
dhas maas maathaa oudhar raakhiaa bahur laagee maaeiaa ||1|| |
For ten months He preserved you in your mother's womb, and then, after you were born, you became attached to Maya. ||1|| |

ਪ੍ਰਾਨੀ ਕਾਹੇ ਕਉ ਲੋਭਿ ਲਾਗੇ ਰਤਨ ਜਨਮੁ ਖੋਇਆ ॥ |
praanee kaahae ko lobh laagae rathan janam khoeiaa || |
O mortal, why have you attached yourself to greed, and lost the jewel of life? |

ਪੂਰਬ ਜਨਮਿ ਕਰਮ ਭੂਮਿ ਬੀਜੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਬੋਇਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
poorab janam karam bhoom beej naahee boeiaa ||1|| rehaao || |
You did not plant the seeds of good actions in the earth of your past lives. ||1||Pause|| |

ਬਾਰਿਕ ਤੇ ਬਿਰਧਿ ਭਇਆ ਹੋਨਾ ਸੋ ਹੋਇਆ ॥ |
baarik thae biradhh bhaeiaa honaa so hoeiaa || |
From an infant, you have grown old. That which was to happen, has happened. |

ਜਾ ਜਮੁ ਆਇ ਝੋਟ ਪਕਰੈ ਤਬਹਿ ਕਾਹੇ ਰੋਇਆ ॥੨॥ |
jaa jam aae jhott pakarai thabehi kaahae roeiaa ||2|| |
When the Messenger of Death comes and grabs you by your hair, why do you cry out then? ||2|| |
