naanak bin sathigur saevae jam pur badhhae maareean muhi kaalai outh jaahi ||1|| |
O Nanak, without serving the True Guru, they are bound and beaten in the City of Death; they arise and depart with blackened faces. ||1|| |

ਜਾਲਉ ਐਸੀ ਰੀਤਿ ਜਿਤੁ ਮੈ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਵੀਸਰੈ ॥ |
jaalo aisee reeth jith mai piaaraa veesarai || |
Burn away those rituals which lead you to forget the Beloved Lord. |

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਈ ਭਲੀ ਪਰੀਤਿ ਜਿਤੁ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਸੇਤੀ ਪਤਿ ਰਹੈ ॥੨॥ |
naanak saaee bhalee pareeth jith saahib saethee path rehai ||2|| |
O Nanak, sublime is that love, which preserves my honor with my Lord Master. ||2|| |

ਹਰਿ ਇਕੋ ਦਾਤਾ ਸੇਵੀਐ ਹਰਿ ਇਕੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ॥ |
har eiko dhaathaa saeveeai har eik dhhiaaeeai || |
Serve the One Lord, the Great Giver; meditate on the One Lord. |

ਹਰਿ ਇਕੋ ਦਾਤਾ ਮੰਗੀਐ ਮਨ ਚਿੰਦਿਆ ਪਾਈਐ ॥ |
har eiko dhaathaa mangeeai man chindhiaa paaeeai || |
Beg from the One Lord, the Great Giver, and you shall obtain your heart's desires. |

ਜੇ ਦੂਜੇ ਪਾਸਹੁ ਮੰਗੀਐ ਤਾ ਲਾਜ ਮਰਾਈਐ ॥ |
jae dhoojae paasahu mangeeai thaa laaj maraaeeai || |
But if you beg from another, then you shall be shamed and destroyed. |

ਜਿਨਿ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਤਿਨਿ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਤਿਸੁ ਜਨ ਕੀ ਸਭ ਭੁਖ ਗਵਾਈਐ ॥ |
jin saeviaa thin fal paaeiaa this jan kee sabh bhukh gavaaeeai || |
One who serves the Lord obtains the fruits of his rewards; all of his hunger is satisfied. |

ਨਾਨਕੁ ਤਿਨ ਵਿਟਹੁ ਵਾਰਿਆ ਜਿਨ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ॥੧੦॥ |
naanak thin vittahu vaariaa jin anadhin hiradhai har naam dhhiaaeeai ||10|| |
Nanak is a sacrifice to those, who night and day, meditate within their hearts on the Name of the Lord. ||10|| |

ਭਗਤ ਜਨਾ ਕੰਉ ਆਪਿ ਤੁਠਾ ਮੇਰਾ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਆਪੇ ਲਇਅਨੁ ਜਨ ਲਾਇ ॥ |
bhagath janaa kano aap thuthaa maeraa piaaraa aapae laeian jan laae || |
He Himself is pleased with His humble devotees; my Beloved Lord attaches them to Himself. |

ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹੀ ਭਗਤ ਜਨਾ ਕਉ ਦਿਤੀਅਨੁ ਸਿਰਿ ਛਤੁ ਸਚਾ ਹਰਿ ਬਣਾਇ ॥ |
paathisaahee bhagath janaa ko dhitheean sir shhath sachaa har banaae || |
The Lord blesses His humble devotees with royalty; He fashions the true crown upon their heads. |

ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੀਏ ਨਿਰਮਲੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਇ ॥ |
sadhaa sukheeeae niramalae sathigur kee kaar kamaae || |
They are always at peace, and immaculately pure; they perform service for the True Guru. |

ਰਾਜੇ ਓਇ ਨ ਆਖੀਅਹਿ ਭਿੜਿ ਮਰਹਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਜੂਨੀ ਪਾਹਿ ॥ |
raajae oue n aakheeahi bhirr marehi fir joonee paahi || |
They are not said to be kings, who die in conflict, and then enter again the cycle of reincarnation. |

ਨਾਨਕ ਵਿਣੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਨਕਂੀ ਵਢਂੀ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਸੋਭਾ ਮੂਲਿ ਨ ਪਾਹਿ ॥੧॥ |
naanak vin naavai nakanaee vadtanaee firehi sobhaa mool n paahi ||1|| |
O Nanak, without the Name of the Lord, they wander about with their noses cut off in disgrace; they get no respect at all. ||1|| |

ਸੁਣਿ ਸਿਖਿਐ ਸਾਦੁ ਨ ਆਇਓ ਜਿਚਰੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ॥ |
sun sikhiai saadh n aaeiou jichar guramukh sabadh n laagai || |
Hearing the teachings, he does not appreciate them, as long as he is not Gurmukh, attached to the Word of the Shabad. |

ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਸੇਵਿਐ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਭਉ ਭਾਗੈ ॥ |
sathigur saeviai naam man vasai vichahu bhram bho bhaagai || |
Serving the True Guru, the Naam comes to abide in the mind, and doubts and fears run away. |
|
ਜੇਹਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਨੋ ਜਾਣੈ ਤੇਹੋ ਹੋਵੈ ਤਾ ਸਚਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੈ ॥ |
jaehaa sathigur no jaanai thaeho hovai thaa sach naam liv laagai || |
As he knows the True Guru, so he is transformed, and then, he lovingly focuses his consciousness on the Naam. |

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਿ ਸੋਹਨਿ ਆਗੈ ॥੨॥ |
naanak naam milai vaddiaaee har dhar sohan aagai ||2|| |
O Nanak, through the Naam, the Name of the Lord, greatness is obtained; he shall be resplendent in the Court of the Lord hereafter. ||2|| |

ਗੁਰਸਿਖਾਂ ਮਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਹੈ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਜਣ ਆਵਹਿ ॥ |
gurasikhaan man har preeth hai gur poojan aavehi || |
The minds of the Gursikhs are filled with the love of the Lord; they come and worship the Guru. |

ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਣੰਜਹਿ ਰੰਗ ਸਿਉ ਲਾਹਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਲੈ ਜਾਵਹਿ ॥ |
har naam vananjehi rang sio laahaa har naam lai jaavehi || |
They trade lovingly in the Lord's Name, and depart after earning the profit of the Lord's Name. |

ਗੁਰਸਿਖਾ ਕੇ ਮੁਖ ਉਜਲੇ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਗਹ ਭਾਵਹਿ ॥ |
gurasikhaa kae mukh oujalae har dharageh bhaavehi || |
The faces of the Gursikhs are radiant; in the Court of the Lord, they are approved. |

ਗੁਰੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਬੋਹਲੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਕਾ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਸਿਖ ਗੁਣ ਸਾਂਝ ਕਰਾਵਹਿ ॥ |
gur sathigur bohal har naam kaa vaddabhaagee sikh gun saanjh karaavehi || |
The Guru, the True Guru, is the treasure of the Lord's Name; how very fortunate are the Sikhs who share in this treasure of virtue. |

ਤਿਨਾ ਗੁਰਸਿਖਾ ਕੰਉ ਹਉ ਵਾਰਿਆ ਜੋ ਬਹਦਿਆ ਉਠਦਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਵਹਿ ॥੧੧॥ |
thinaa gurasikhaa kano ho vaariaa jo behadhiaa outhadhiaa har naam dhhiaavehi ||11|| |
I am a sacrifice to those Gursikhs who, sitting and standing, meditate on the Lord's Name. ||11|| |

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਹੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਇ ॥ |
naanak naam nidhhaan hai guramukh paaeiaa jaae || |
O Nanak, the Naam, the Name of the Lord, is the treasure, which the Gurmukhs obtain. |

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਘਰਿ ਹੋਦੀ ਵਥੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਨੀ ਅੰਧੇ ਭਉਕਿ ਮੁਏ ਬਿਲਲਾਇ ॥੧॥ |
manamukh ghar hodhee vathh n jaananee andhhae bhouk mueae bilalaae ||1|| |
The self-willed manmukhs are blind; they do not realize that it is within their own home. They die barking and crying. ||1|| |

ਕੰਚਨ ਕਾਇਆ ਨਿਰਮਲੀ ਜੋ ਸਚਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਚਿ ਲਾਗੀ ॥ |
kanchan kaaeiaa niramalee jo sach naam sach laagee || |
That body is golden and immaculate, which is attached to the True Name of the True Lord. |

ਨਿਰਮਲ ਜੋਤਿ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਭਉ ਭਾਗੀ ॥ |
niramal joth niranjan paaeiaa guramukh bhram bho bhaagee || |
The Gurmukh obtains the Pure Light of the Luminous Lord, and his doubts and fears run away. |

ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ॥੨॥ |
naanak guramukh sadhaa sukh paavehi anadhin har bairaagee ||2|| |
O Nanak, the Gurmukhs find lasting peace; night and day, they remain detached, while in the Love of the Lord. ||2|| |

sae gurasikh dhhan dhhann hai jinee gur oupadhaes suniaa har kannee || |
Blessed blessed are those Gursikhs who, with their ears, listen to the Guru's Teachings about the Lord. |

ਗੁਰਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇਆ ਤਿਨਿ ਹੰਉਮੈ ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਭੰਨੀ ॥ |
gur sathigur naam dhrirraaeiaa thin hanoumai dhubidhhaa bhannee || |
The Guru, the True Guru, implants the Naam within them, and their egotism and duality are silenced. |

ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਵੈ ਕੋ ਮਿਤ੍ਰੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ਡਿਠਾ ਹਰਿ ਜੰਨੀ ॥ |
bin har naavai ko mithra naahee veechaar ddithaa har jannee || |
There is no friend, other than the Name of the Lord; the Lord's humble servants reflect upon this and see. |
