My Husband Lord is not pleased by these clothes, O Beloved; how can the soul-bride go to His bed? ||1|| |

ਹੰਉ ਕੁਰਬਾਨੈ ਜਾਉ ਮਿਹਰਵਾਨਾ ਹੰਉ ਕੁਰਬਾਨੈ ਜਾਉ ॥ |
hano kurabaanai jaao miharavaanaa hano kurabaanai jaao || |
I am a sacrifice, O Dear Merciful Lord; I am a sacrifice to You. |

ਹੰਉ ਕੁਰਬਾਨੈ ਜਾਉ ਤਿਨਾ ਕੈ ਲੈਨਿ ਜੋ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਉ ॥ |
hano kurabaanai jaao thinaa kai lain jo thaeraa naao || |
I am a sacrifice to those who take to Your Name. |

ਲੈਨਿ ਜੋ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਉ ਤਿਨਾ ਕੈ ਹੰਉ ਸਦ ਕੁਰਬਾਨੈ ਜਾਉ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
lain jo thaeraa naao thinaa kai hano sadh kurabaanai jaao ||1|| rehaao || |
Unto those who take to Your Name, I am forever a sacrifice. ||1||Pause|| |

ਕਾਇਆ ਰੰਙਣਿ ਜੇ ਥੀਐ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਪਾਈਐ ਨਾਉ ਮਜੀਠ ॥ |
kaaeiaa rann(g)an jae thheeai piaarae paaeeai naao majeeth || |
If the body becomes the dyer's vat, O Beloved, and the Name is placed within it as the dye, |

ਰੰਙਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਜੇ ਰੰਙੈ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਐਸਾ ਰੰਗੁ ਨ ਡੀਠ ॥੨॥ |
rann(g)an vaalaa jae rann(g)ai saahib aisaa rang n ddeeth ||2|| |
and if the Dyer who dyes this cloth is the Lord Master - O, such a color has never been seen before! ||2|| |

ਜਿਨ ਕੇ ਚੋਲੇ ਰਤੜੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਕੰਤੁ ਤਿਨਾ ਕੈ ਪਾਸਿ ॥ |
jin kae cholae ratharrae piaarae kanth thinaa kai paas || |
Those whose shawls are so dyed, O Beloved, their Husband Lord is always with them. |

ਧੂੜਿ ਤਿਨਾ ਕੀ ਜੇ ਮਿਲੈ ਜੀ ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੀ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ॥੩॥ |
dhhoorr thinaa kee jae milai jee kahu naanak kee aradhaas ||3|| |
Bless me with the dust of those humble beings, O Dear Lord. Says Nanak, this is my prayer. ||3|| |

ਆਪੇ ਸਾਜੇ ਆਪੇ ਰੰਗੇ ਆਪੇ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇਇ ॥ |
aapae saajae aapae rangae aapae nadhar karaee || |
He Himself creates, and He Himself imbues us. He Himself bestows His Glance of Grace. |

ਨਾਨਕ ਕਾਮਣਿ ਕੰਤੈ ਭਾਵੈ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਰਾਵੇਇ ॥੪॥੧॥੩॥ |
naanak kaaman kanthai bhaavai aapae hee raavaee ||4||1||3|| |
O Nanak, if the soul-bride becomes pleasing to her Husband Lord, He Himself enjoys her. ||4||1||3|| |

O foolish and ignorant soul-bride, why are you so proud? |

ਆਪਨੜੈ ਘਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗੋ ਕੀ ਨ ਮਾਣੇਹਿ ॥ |
aapanarrai ghar har rango kee n maanaehi || |
Within the home of your own self, why do you not enjoy the Love of your Lord? |

ਸਹੁ ਨੇੜੈ ਧਨ ਕੰਮਲੀਏ ਬਾਹਰੁ ਕਿਆ ਢੂਢੇਹਿ ॥ |
sahu naerrai dhhan kanmaleeeae baahar kiaa dtoodtaehi || |
Your Husband Lord is so very near, O foolish bride; why do you search for Him outside? |

ਭੈ ਕੀਆ ਦੇਹਿ ਸਲਾਈਆ ਨੈਣੀ ਭਾਵ ਕਾ ਕਰਿ ਸੀਗਾਰੋ ॥ |
bhai keeaa dhaehi salaaeeaa nainee bhaav kaa kar seegaaro || |
Apply the Fear of God as the maascara to adorn your eyes, and make the Love of the Lord your ornament. |

ਤਾ ਸੋਹਾਗਣਿ ਜਾਣੀਐ ਲਾਗੀ ਜਾ ਸਹੁ ਧਰੇ ਪਿਆਰੋ ॥੧॥ |
thaa sohaagan jaaneeai laagee jaa sahu dhharae piaaro ||1|| |
Then, you shall be known as a devoted and committed soul-bride, when you enshrine love for your Husband Lord. ||1|| |

ਇਆਣੀ ਬਾਲੀ ਕਿਆ ਕਰੇ ਜਾ ਧਨ ਕੰਤ ਨ ਭਾਵੈ ॥ |
eiaanee baalee kiaa karae jaa dhhan kanth n bhaavai || |
What can the silly young bride do, if she is not pleasing to her Husband Lord? |

ਕਰਣ ਪਲਾਹ ਕਰੇ ਬਹੁਤੇਰੇ ਸਾ ਧਨ ਮਹਲੁ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ॥ |
karan palaah karae bahuthaerae saa dhhan mehal n paavai || |
She may plead and implore so many times, but still, such a bride shall not obtain the Mansion of the Lord's Presence. |

ਵਿਣੁ ਕਰਮਾ ਕਿਛੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਨਾਹੀ ਜੇ ਬਹੁਤੇਰਾ ਧਾਵੈ ॥ |
vin karamaa kishh paaeeai naahee jae bahuthaeraa dhhaavai || |
Without the karma of good deeds, nothing is obtained, although she may run around frantically. |

ਲਬ ਲੋਭ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਕੀ ਮਾਤੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਣੀ ॥ |
lab lobh ahankaar kee maathee maaeiaa maahi samaanee || |
She is intoxicated with greed, pride and egotism, and engrossed in Maya. |

ਇਨੀ ਬਾਤੀ ਸਹੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਨਾਹੀ ਭਈ ਕਾਮਣਿ ਇਆਣੀ ॥੨॥ |
einee baathee sahu paaeeai naahee bhee kaaman eiaanee ||2|| |
She cannot obtain her Husband Lord in these ways; the young bride is so foolish! ||2|| |
|
ਜਾਇ ਪੁਛਹੁ ਸੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਵਾਹੈ ਕਿਨੀ ਬਾਤੀ ਸਹੁ ਪਾਈਐ ॥ |
jaae pushhahu sohaaganee vaahai kinee baathee sahu paaeeai || |
Go and ask the happy, pure soul-brides, how did they obtain their Husband Lord? |

ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰੇ ਸੋ ਭਲਾ ਕਰਿ ਮਾਨੀਐ ਹਿਕਮਤਿ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਈਐ ॥ |
jo kishh karae so bhalaa kar maaneeai hikamath hukam chukaaeeai || |
Whatever the Lord does, accept that as good; do away with your own cleverness and self-will. |

ਜਾ ਕੈ ਪ੍ਰੇਮਿ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਤਉ ਚਰਣੀ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਈਐ ॥ |
jaa kai praem padhaarathh paaeeai tho charanee chith laaeeai || |
By His Love, true wealth is obtained; link your consciousness to His lotus feet. |

ਸਹੁ ਕਹੈ ਸੋ ਕੀਜੈ ਤਨੁ ਮਨੋ ਦੀਜੈ ਐਸਾ ਪਰਮਲੁ ਲਾਈਐ ॥ |
sahu kehai so keejai than mano dheejai aisaa paramal laaeeai || |
As your Husband Lord directs, so you must act; surrender your body and mind to Him, and apply this perfume to yourself. |

ਏਵ ਕਹਹਿ ਸੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਭੈਣੇ ਇਨੀ ਬਾਤੀ ਸਹੁ ਪਾਈਐ ॥੩॥ |
eaev kehehi sohaaganee bhainae einee baathee sahu paaeeai ||3|| |
So speaks the happy soul-bride, O sister; in this way, the Husband Lord is obtained. ||3|| |

ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਈਐ ਤਾ ਸਹੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਅਉਰੁ ਕੈਸੀ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ॥ |
aap gavaaeeai thaa sahu paaeeai aour kaisee chathuraaee || |
Give up your selfhood, and so obtain your Husband Lord; what other clever tricks are of any use? |

ਸਹੁ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਦੇਖੈ ਸੋ ਦਿਨੁ ਲੇਖੈ ਕਾਮਣਿ ਨਉ ਨਿਧਿ ਪਾਈ ॥ |
sahu nadhar kar dhaekhai so dhin laekhai kaaman no nidhh paaee || |
When the Husband Lord looks upon the soul-bride with His Gracious Glance, that day is historic - the bride obtains the nine treasures. |

ਆਪਣੇ ਕੰਤ ਪਿਆਰੀ ਸਾ ਸੋਹਾਗਣਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾ ਸਭਰਾਈ ॥ |
aapanae kanth piaaree saa sohaagan naanak saa sabharaaee || |
She who is loved by her Husband Lord, is the true soul-bride; O Nanak, she is the queen of all. |

ਐਸੈ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੀ ਸਹਜ ਕੀ ਮਾਤੀ ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਭਾਇ ਸਮਾਣੀ ॥ |
aisae rang raathee sehaj kee maathee ahinis bhaae samaanee || |
Thus she is imbued with His Love, intoxicated with delight; day and night, she is absorbed in His Love. |

ਸੁੰਦਰਿ ਸਾਇ ਸਰੂਪ ਬਿਚਖਣਿ ਕਹੀਐ ਸਾ ਸਿਆਣੀ ॥੪॥੨॥੪॥ |
sundhar saae saroop bichakhan keheeai saa siaanee ||4||2||4|| |
She is beautiful, glorious and brilliant; she is known as truly wise. ||4||2||4|| |

jaisee mai aavai khasam kee baanee thaisarraa karee giaan vae laalo || |
As the Word of the Forgiving Lord comes to me, so do I express it, O Lalo. |

ਪਾਪ ਕੀ ਜੰਞ ਲੈ ਕਾਬਲਹੁ ਧਾਇਆ ਜੋਰੀ ਮੰਗੈ ਦਾਨੁ ਵੇ ਲਾਲੋ ॥ |
paap kee jannj lai kaabalahu dhhaaeiaa joree mangai dhaan vae laalo || |
Bringing the marriage party of sin, Babar has invaded from Kaabul, demanding our land as his wedding gift, O Lalo. |

ਸਰਮੁ ਧਰਮੁ ਦੁਇ ਛਪਿ ਖਲੋਏ ਕੂੜੁ ਫਿਰੈ ਪਰਧਾਨੁ ਵੇ ਲਾਲੋ ॥ |
saram dhharam dhue shhap khaloeae koorr firai paradhhaan vae laalo || |
Modesty and righteousness both have vanished, and falsehood struts around like a leader, O Lalo. |

ਕਾਜੀਆ ਬਾਮਣਾ ਕੀ ਗਲ ਥਕੀ ਅਗਦੁ ਪੜੈ ਸੈਤਾਨੁ ਵੇ ਲਾਲੋ ॥ |
kaajeeaa baamanaa kee gal thhakee agadh parrai saithaan vae laalo || |
The Qazis and the Brahmins have lost their roles, and Satan now conducts the marriage rites, O Lalo. |

ਮੁਸਲਮਾਨੀਆ ਪੜਹਿ ਕਤੇਬਾ ਕਸਟ ਮਹਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਖੁਦਾਇ ਵੇ ਲਾਲੋ ॥ |
musalamaaneeaa parrehi kathaebaa kasatt mehi karehi khudhaae vae laalo || |
The Muslim women read the Koran, and in their misery, they call upon God, O Lalo. |

ਜਾਤਿ ਸਨਾਤੀ ਹੋਰਿ ਹਿਦਵਾਣੀਆ ਏਹਿ ਭੀ ਲੇਖੈ ਲਾਇ ਵੇ ਲਾਲੋ ॥ |
jaath sanaathee hor hidhavaaneeaa eaehi bhee laekhai laae vae laalo || |
The Hindu women of high social status, and others of lowly status as well, are put into the same category, O Lalo. |
