| Make contentment your ear-rings, humility your begging bowl, and meditation the ashes you apply to your body. |

| In the realm of humility, the Word is Beauty. |

| In deep humility, I fall at the Feet of the Perfect True Guru. |

| har jaeth jurrandhaa lorreeai jis agai sabh nivann || |
| In the month of Jayt'h, the bride longs to meet with the Lord. All bow in humility before Him. |

| With tolerance, humility, bliss and intuitive poise, they continue to meditate on the Lord, the Treasure of excellence. |

| ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕੈ ਗਰੀਬੀ ਸਮਾਹਾ ॥ |

| The God-conscious being is steeped in humility. |

| Bow in humility to the Lord, over and over again, and enter the Sanctuary of the Lord, our King. |

| dhaekhahu bhaaee eaehu akhaarraa har preetham sachae kaa jin aapanai jor sabh aan nivaaeae || |
| Behold, O Siblings of Destiny: this is the Arena of the Beloved True Lord; His power brings everyone to bow in humility. |

| ਬੁਧਿ ਗਰੀਬੀ ਖਰਚੁ ਲੈਹੁ ਹਉਮੈ ਬਿਖੁ ਜਾਰਹੁ ॥ |
| budhh gareebee kharach laihu houmai bikh jaarahu || |
| Take wisdom and humility as your supplies, and burn away the poison of pride. |

| ਇਉ ਕਹੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਆਪੁ ਛਡਿ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਮਨ ਨਿਮਾਣਾ ਹੋਇ ਰਹੁ ॥੭॥ |
| eio kehai naanak aap shhadd sukh paavehi man nimaanaa hoe rahu ||7|| |
| Thus says Nanak: renounce your ego and self-conceit, and obtain peace; let your mind abide in humility. ||7|| |

| ਭਾਉ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਨੀਚੁ ਸਦਾਏ ॥ਤਉ ਨਾਨਕ ਮੋਖੰਤਰੁ ਪਾਏ ॥੨॥ |

| She contemplates the Guru's Shabads, and her Husband Lord loves her; in deep humility, she worships Him in loving devotion. |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਸਰਨਿ ਗਹੀ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਕੀ ਪੁਨਹ ਪੁਨਹ ਨਮਸਕਾਰਾ ॥੨॥੯॥੨੮॥ |
| naanak saran gehee suaamee kee puneh puneh namasakaaraa ||2||9||28|| |
| Nanak holds tight to the Sanctuary of his Lord and Master; again and again, he bows in humility and reverence to Him. ||2||9||28|| |

| thum samarathh purakh vaddae prabh suaamee mo ko keejai dhaan har nimaghaa || |
| You are the All-powerful, Great, Primal God, my Lord and Master. O Lord, please bless me with the gift of humility. |

| ਮਿਸਟ ਬਚਨ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਉ ਦੀਨ ਕੀ ਨਿਆਈ ॥ |

| ਹੋਇ ਨਿਮਾਣੀ ਢਹਿ ਪਈ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥ |
| hoe nimaanee dtehi pee miliaa sehaj subhaae || |
| In humility, I bowed down in surrender to Him, and He naturally met me. |

| ਏਤ ਛਡਾਈ ਮੋਹਿ ਤੇ ਇਤਨੀ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਤਾਰੀ ॥ |
| eaeth shhaddaaee mohi thae eithanee dhrirrathaaree || |
| They have helped me renounce this ego, and implant this humility within myself. |

| ਨਮਸਕਾਰ ਡੰਡਉਤਿ ਬੰਦਨਾ ਅਨਿਕ ਬਾਰ ਜਾਉ ਬਾਰੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| namasakaar ddanddouth bandhanaa anik baar jaao baarai ||1|| rehaao || |
| I how in humility and reverence to You; so many times, I am a sacrifice. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਜਤੁ ਸਤੁ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਸੀਲੁ ਨ ਰਾਖਿਆ ਪ੍ਰੇਤ ਪਿੰਜਰ ਮਹਿ ਕਾਸਟੁ ਭਇਆ ॥ |
| jath sath sanjam seel n raakhiaa praeth pinjar mehi kaasatt bhaeiaa || |
| You do not practice truth, abstinence, self-discipline or humility; the ghost within your skeleton has turned to dry wood. |

| ਸਰਮੈ ਦੀਆ ਮੁੰਦ੍ਰਾ ਕੰਨੀ ਪਾਇ ਜੋਗੀ ਖਿੰਥਾ ਕਰਿ ਤੂ ਦਇਆ ॥ |
| saramai dheeaa mundhraa kannee paae jogee khinthhaa kar thoo dhaeiaa || |
| Make humility your ear-rings, Yogi, and compassion your patched coat. |

| ਕੋਈ ਕਰਿ ਬਖੀਲੀ ਨਿਵੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਫਿਰਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਆਣਿ ਨਿਵਾਇਆ ॥ |
| koee kar bakheelee nivai naahee fir sathiguroo aan nivaaeiaa || |
| And any that did not bow then because of envy - later, the True Guru brought them around to bow in humility. |

| ਉਦਮੁ ਅਗਮੁ ਅਗੋਚਰੋ ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਨਮਸਕਾਰ ॥ |
| oudham agam agocharo charan kamal namasakaar || |
| Strive for the inaccessible and unfathomable Lord, and bow in humility to His lotus feet. |

| hal halaemee haalee chith chaethaa vathr vakhath sanjog || |
| humility the plow, consciousness the plowman, remembrance the preparation of the soil, and union with the Lord the planting time. |

| ਨਮਸਕਾਰੁ ਕਰਿ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਮਾਹਿ ॥ |
| namasakaar kar hiradhai maahi || |
| Bow in humility within your heart, |

| ਜਿਉ ਜਿਉ ਨਿਵਹਿ ਸਾਕਤ ਨਰ ਸੇਤੀ ਛੇੜਿ ਛੇੜਿ ਕਢੈ ਬਿਖੁ ਖਾਰੇ ॥੫॥ |
| jio jio nivehi saakath nar saethee shhaerr shhaerr kadtai bikh khaarae ||5|| |
| The more one bows down in humility before the faithless cyinc, the more he provokes, and stabs, and spits out his poison. ||5|| |
|
| ਦੁਖ ਸੁਖ ਹੀ ਤੇ ਭਏ ਨਿਰਾਲੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੀਲੁ ਸਨਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੮॥ |
| dhukh sukh hee thae bheae niraalae guramukh seel sanaahaa hae ||8|| |
| The Gurmukhs remain unaffected by pain and pleasure; they wear the armor of humility. ||8|| |

| ਹਰਿ ਰਸਿ ਭੀਨੇ ਸਦਾ ਧਿਆਇਨਿ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸੀਲੁ ਸੰਨਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧॥ |
| har ras bheenae sadhaa dhhiaaein guramath seel sannaahaa hae ||1|| |
| Those who are drenched with the sublime essence of the Lord, meditate forever on Him; following the Guru's Teachings, they obtain the armor of humility. ||1|| |

| ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਸੀਲੁ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਸਭੁ ਤਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੫॥ |
| sathigur saev sadhaa sukh paaeeai seel santhokh sabh thaahaa hae ||5|| |
| Serving the True Guru, lasting peace is found; humility and contentment all come from Him. ||5|| |

| Lacking truth and humility, they shall not be appreciated in the world hereafter. |
