| ਮਸਤਕਿ ਕਰਮੁ ਲਿਖਿਓ ਧੁਰਿ ਜਾ ਕੈ ॥ |
| masathak karam likhiou dhhur jaa kai || |
| One who has such karma written on his forehead, |

| ਕੁੰਟ ਚਾਰਿ ਦਹ ਦਿਸਿ ਭ੍ਰਮੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਿਰਤਿ ਕੀ ਰੇਖ ॥ |
| kuntt chaar dheh dhis bhramae karam kirath kee raekh || |
| He wanders around in the four quarters and in the ten directions, according to the dictates of his karma. |
|
| ਰੇਣ ਸਗਲ ਇਆ ਮਨੁ ਕਰੈ ਏਊ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਇ ॥ |
| raen sagal eiaa man karai eaeoo karam kamaae || |
| He makes his mind the dust of all; such is the karma of the deeds he does. |
|
| ਕਰਮ ਧਰਮ ਤਤੁ ਨਾਮ ਅਰਾਧੂ ॥ |
| karam dhharam thath naam araadhhoo || |
| meditate in adoration on the Naam, the Name of the Lord, the essence of karma and Dharma. |
|
| ਅਖਰ ਕਰਮ ਕਿਰਤਿ ਸੁਚ ਧਰਮਾ ॥ |
| akhar karam kirath such dhharamaa || |
| From the Word, come religious rituals, karma, sacredness and Dharma. |
|
| ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਸੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਧੁਰਿ ਕਰਮਿ ॥੫॥ |
| naanak this milai jis likhiaa dhhur karam ||5|| |
| O Nanak, he alone obtains it, whose karma is so pre-ordained. ||5|| |
|
| ਕਰਮੀ ਆਪੋ ਆਪਣੀ ਆਪੇ ਪਛੁਤਾਣੀ ॥ |
| karamee aapo aapanee aapae pashhuthaanee || |
| But they shall come to regret their actions - they create their own karma. |
|
| ਕਰਮ ਭਾਗ ਸੰਤਨ ਸੰਗਾਨੇ ਕਾਸਟ ਲੋਹ ਉਧਾਰਿਓ ਰੇ ॥੩॥ |
| karam bhaag santhan sangaanae kaasatt loh oudhhaariou rae ||3|| |
| But those who, through destiny and good karma, join the Society of the Saints, float over the ocean, like iron attached to wood. ||3|| |
|
| ਤਿਹ ਬਡ ਭਾਗ ਬਸਿਓ ਮਨਿ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਕਰਮ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਮਥਾਨਾਨਾ ॥੩॥ |
| thih badd bhaag basiou man jaa kai karam pradhhaan mathhaanaanaa ||3|| |
| He is blessed with great good fortune; the Lord abides in his mind. Good karma radiates from his forehead. ||3|| |
|
| ਕਰਮ ਧਰਮ ਕੀ ਸੂਲ ਨ ਸਹਹੁ ॥੭॥ |
| karam dhharam kee sool n sehahu ||7|| |
| and you will not have to endure the torture of karma or religious rituals. ||7|| |
|
| ਕਰਮ ਧਰਮ ਸਚੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਨਾਉ ॥ |
| karam dhharam sach saachaa naao || |
| Those whose karma and Dharma - whose actions and faith - are in the True Name of the True Lord |
|
| ਕਰਮ ਧਰਮ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਸਤ ਭਾਉ ॥ |
| karam dhharam sanjam sath bhaao || |
| The love of the Truth is my karma and Dharma - my faith and my actions, and my self-control. |
|
| ਸਭਨਾ ਫਲੁ ਲਾਗੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਏਕੋ ਬਿਨੁ ਕਰਮਾ ਕੈਸੇ ਲੇਹੀ ॥੩॥ |
| sabhanaa fal laagai naam eaeko bin karamaa kaisae laehee ||3|| |
| All these trees bear the fruit of the Name of the One Lord; but without the karma of good actions, how can anyone obtain it? ||3|| |
|
| ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਪੂਰਨ ਕਰਮ ॥ |
| kahu naanak jaa kae pooran karam || |
| Says Nanak, one who is blessed with perfect good karma, |
|
| ਕਰਮ ਧਰਮ ਅਨੇਕ ਕਿਰਿਆ ਸਭ ਊਪਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਚਾਰੁ ॥੨॥ |
| karam dhharam anaek kiriaa sabh oopar naam achaar ||2|| |
| The many religious rituals, good deeds of karma and Dharmic worship - above all of these is the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||2|| |
|
| ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਕਰਮਾ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਧਰਮਾ ॥ |
| eihu man karamaa eihu man dhharamaa || |
| This mind commits its deeds of karma, and this mind follows the Dharma. |
|
| ਵਿਣੁ ਕਰਮਾ ਕਿਛੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਨਹੀ ਕਿਆ ਕਰਿ ਕਹਿਆ ਜਾਇ ॥੨॥ |
| vin karamaa kishh paaeeai nehee kiaa kar kehiaa jaae ||2|| |
| Without the destiny of good karma, nothing can be obtained; what can we say or do? ||2|| |
|
| ਇਕਿ ਹੋਦਾ ਖਾਇ ਚਲਹਿ ਐਥਾਊ ਤਿਨਾ ਭਿ ਕਾਈ ਕਾਰ ॥ |
| eik hodhaa khaae chalehi aithhaaoo thinaa bh kaaee kaar || |
| - after using up what good karma they had, they depart; have they done any good deeds here at all? |
|
| ਧੁਰਿ ਕਰਮੁ ਜਿਨਾ ਕਉ ਤੁਧੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਤਾ ਤਿਨੀ ਖਸਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥ |
| dhhur karam jinaa ko thudhh paaeiaa thaa thinee khasam dhhiaaeiaa || |
| Only those whose karma You have pre-ordained from the very beginning, O Lord, meditate on You. |
|
| ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੁਖ ਫੇੜ ਕਰਮ ਸੁਖ ਜੀਅ ਜਨਮ ਤੇ ਛੂਟੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| janam maran dhukh faerr karam sukh jeea janam thae shhoottai ||1|| rehaao || |
| The pains of birth and death come from past actions and karma; peace comes when the soul finds release from reincarnation. ||1||Pause|| |
|
| ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਜਹਾ ਜਹਾ ਲਗੁ ਕਰਮ ਕੇ ਬਸਿ ਜਾਇ ॥ |
| jeea janth jehaa jehaa lag karam kae bas jaae || |
| Wherever the beings and creatures are, they are born according to the karma of their past actions. |
|
| ਉਪਾਇ ਕਿਤੈ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਹਰਿ ਕਰਮ ਬਿਧਾਤਾ ॥ |
| oupaae kithai n paaeeai har karam bidhhaathaa || |
| The Lord cannot be obtained by any device at all; He is the Architect of Karma. |
|
| ਵਾਹੁ ਵਾਹੁ ਕਰਮੀ ਬੋਲੈ ਬੋਲਾਇ ॥ |
| vaahu vaahu karamee bolai bolaae || |
| Waaho! Waaho! Through the karma of good deeds, I chant it, and inspire others to chant it as well. |
|
| ਕਰਮ ਧਰਮ ਤਤੁ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਸੰਤਾ ਸੰਗੁ ਹੋਇ ॥ |
| karam dhharam thath giaan santhaa sang hoe || |
| The karma of good deeds, the righteousness of Dharma and the essence of spiritual wisdom are obtained in the Society of the Saints. |
|
| ਕਰਮੁ ਧਰਮੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਉਪਜਿ ਨ ਆਇਓ ਨਹ ਉਪਜੀ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਕਰਣੀ ॥ |
| karam dhharam kishh oupaj n aaeiou neh oupajee niramal karanee || |
| The karma of good deeds, and the Dharma of righteous faith, have not been produced in me, in the least; nor has pure conduct welled up in me. |
|
| ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਕਰਮਿ ਲਿਖੀ ਤਿਸੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਸਮਾਣੀ ਰਾਮ ॥ |
| jin ko karam likhee this ridhai samaanee raam || |
| He alone, whose karma is so pre-ordained, has it enter into his heart. |
|
| ਧੁਰਿ ਕਰਮੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਓ ਪਰਾਣੀ ਵਿਣੁ ਕਰਮਾ ਕਿਆ ਪਾਏ ॥ |
| dhhur karam n paaeiou paraanee vin karamaa kiaa paaeae || |
| But if he is not blessed with such pre-ordained karma, then without this karma, what can he obtain? |
|
| ਨਾਨਕਾ ਜਿਨ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਕਰਮੁ ਹੋਆ ਧੁਰਿ ਕਦੇ ॥ |
| naanakaa jin naam miliaa karam hoaa dhhur kadhae || |
| O Nanak, those who are blessed with the Naam have had such good karma pre-ordained. |
|
| ਧਨ ਬਾਲੀ ਭੋਲੀ ਪਿਰੁ ਸਹਜਿ ਰਾਵੈ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਕਰਮ ਬਿਧਾਤਾ ॥ |
| dhhan baalee bholee pir sehaj raavai miliaa karam bidhhaathaa || |
| The young, innocent bride enjoys her Husband Lord; she meets Him, the Architect of karma. |
|
| ਜਗਜੀਵਨੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਕਰਮਿ ਬਿਧਾਤਾ ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸੇ ਸੋਈ ॥ |
| jagajeevan dhaathaa karam bidhhaathaa aapae bakhasae soee || |
| The Life of the World, the Great Giver, the Architect of karma - He Himself grants forgiveness. |
|
| ਜਿਨਿ ਪ੍ਰਿਉ ਜਾਤਾ ਕਰਮ ਬਿਧਾਤਾ ਬੋਲੇ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬਾਣੀ ॥ |
| jin prio jaathaa karam bidhhaathaa bolae anmrith baanee || |
| She knows her Beloved, the Architect of karma, and she speaks words of ambrosial sweetness. |
|
| ਜਿਨਿ ਅਪਣਾ ਪਿਰੁ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਤਾ ਕਰਮ ਬਿਧਾਤਾ ਕੂੜਿ ਮੁਠੀ ਕੂੜਿਆਰੇ ॥ |
| jin apanaa pir nehee jaathaa karam bidhhaathaa koorr muthee koorriaarae || |
| She who does not know her Husband Lord, the Architect of karma, is deluded by falsehood - she herself is false. |
|
| ਨਾਨਕ ਪੂਰੈ ਕਰਮਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਰਜਾਇ ॥੨॥ |
| naanak poorai karam sathigur milai har jeeo kirapaa karae rajaae ||2|| |
| O Nanak, by perfect good karma, you shall meet the True Guru, and then the Dear Lord, by His Sweet Will, shall bless you with His Mercy. ||2|| |
|
| ਨਾਨਕ ਕਿਰਤਿ ਪਇਐ ਕਮਾਵਣਾ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਮੇਟਣਹਾਰੁ ॥੨॥ |
| naanak kirath paeiai kamaavanaa koe n maettanehaar ||2|| |
| O Nanak, he acts according to the karma of his past actions, which no one can erase. ||2|| |
|
| ਅਲਖ ਅਪਾਰ ਅਗੰਮ ਅਗੋਚਰ ਨਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਕਾਲੁ ਨ ਕਰਮਾ ॥ |
| alakh apaar aganm agochar naa this kaal n karamaa || |
| He is unknowable, infinite, unapproachable and imperceptible. He is not subject to death or karma. |
|
| ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਾ ਕੇ ਪੂਰ ਕਰੰਮਾ ਜਾ ਕਾ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਨੀ ਮਨੁ ਲਾਗਾ ॥੪॥੧੦॥੨੧॥ |
| kahu naanak thaa kae poor karanmaa jaa kaa gur charanee man laagaa ||4||10||21|| |
| Says Nanak, his karma is perfect; his mind is attached to the Guru's feet. ||4||10||21|| |

| ਕਰਮੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਾ ਧਰਮੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਾ ਲੋਭੀ ਮਾਇਆਧਾਰੀ ॥ |
| karam n jaanaa dhharam n jaanaa lobhee maaeiaadhhaaree || |
| I do not know about karma and good deeds; I do not know about Dharma and righteous living. I am so greedy, chasing after Maya. |
|
| ਜੇ ਪਿਰ ਭਾਵੈ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਕਰਮ ਮਣੀ ਸਭੁ ਸਚੁ ॥੧॥ |
| jae pir bhaavai naanakaa karam manee sabh sach ||1|| |
| If she becomes pleasing to her Husband Lord, O Nanak, she bears the jewel of good karma upon her forehead, and everything is Truth to her. ||1|| |
|
| ਨਾਨਕ ਵਿਣੁ ਕਰਮਾ ਕਿਆ ਪਾਈਐ ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਕਮਾਇ ॥੨॥ |
| naanak vin karamaa kiaa paaeeai poorab likhiaa kamaae ||2|| |
| O Nanak, without good karma, what can anyone obtain? He earns what he is pre-destined to receive. ||2|| |
|
| ਬਿਨੁ ਕਰਮੈ ਨਾਉ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਪੂਰੈ ਕਰਮਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਇ ॥ |
| bin karamai naao n paaeeai poorai karam paaeiaa jaae || |
| Without the karma of good actions, the Name is not obtained; it can be obtained only by perfect good karma. |
|
| ਜਾ ਕੋ ਰੇ ਕਰਮੁ ਭਲਾ ਤਿਨਿ ਓਟ ਗਹੀ ਸੰਤ ਪਲਾ ਤਿਨ ਨਾਹੀ ਰੇ ਜਮੁ ਸੰਤਾਵੈ ਸਾਧੂ ਕੀ ਸੰਗਨਾ ॥ |
| jaa ko rae karam bhalaa thin outt gehee santh palaa thin naahee rae jam santhaavai saadhhoo kee sanganaa || |
| One who has good karma, grasps the Protection of the hem of the Saint's robe; in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, the Messenger of Death cannot threaten him. |

| ਨਾਮੁ ਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਓ ਹੈ ਅਪੁਨੈ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਕਰਮਾ ॥ |
| naam gur dheeou hai apunai jaa kai masathak karamaa || |
| My Guru gives the Naam, the Name of the Lord, to those who have such karma written on their foreheads. |
|
| ਜਿਸ ਕੈ ਕਰਮਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਧੁਰਿ ਕਰਤੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਨ ਕੇ ਪੂਰਨ ਕਾਮ ॥੨॥੨੦॥੫੧॥ |
| jis kai karam likhiaa dhhur karathai naanak jan kae pooran kaam ||2||20||51|| |
| That humble servant of the Lord, who has such karma pre-ordained by the Creator Lord, O Nanak - his efforts are brought to perfect fruition. ||2||20||51|| |
|
| ਧੁਰਿ ਕਰਮੁ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਸਾਚੁ ਸਿਖਿਆ ਕਟੀ ਜਮ ਕੀ ਫਾਸਏ ॥ |
| dhhur karam likhiaa saach sikhiaa kattee jam kee faaseae || |
| Those who have such karma pre-ordained, study and learn the Truth; the noose of Death is removed from their necks. |
|
| ਕਰਮ ਕਰਿ ਅਰੁਣ ਪਿੰਗੁਲਾ ਰੀ ॥੨॥ |
| karam kar arun pingulaa ree ||2|| |
| and yet, Aruna was made a cripple, because of the karma of his past actions. ||2|| |
|
| ਕਰਮ ਕਰਿ ਕਪਾਲੁ ਮਫੀਟਸਿ ਰੀ ॥੩॥ |
| karam kar kapaal mafeettas ree ||3|| |
| And yet, he could not erase the karma of cutting off Brahma's head. ||3|| |
|
| ਕਰਮ ਕਰਿ ਖਾਰੁ ਮਫੀਟਸਿ ਰੀ ॥੪॥ |
| karam kar khaar mafeettas ree ||4|| |
| and yet, because of its karma, its saltiness has not left it. ||4|| |
|
| ਕਰਮ ਕਰਿ ਕਛਉਟੀ ਮਫੀਟਸਿ ਰੀ ॥੫॥ |
| karam kar kashhouttee mafeettas ree ||5|| |
| and yet, because of his karma, he could not be rid of his loin cloth. ||5|| |
|
| ਪੂਰਬਲੋ ਕ੍ਰਿਤ ਕਰਮੁ ਨ ਮਿਟੈ ਰੀ ਘਰ ਗੇਹਣਿ ਤਾ ਚੇ ਮੋਹਿ ਜਾਪੀਅਲੇ ਰਾਮ ਚੇ ਨਾਮੰ ॥ |
| poorabalo kirath karam n mittai ree ghar gaehan thaa chae mohi jaapeealae raam chae naaman || |
| The karma of past actions cannot be erased, O wife of my house; this is why I chant the Name of the Lord. |

| ਸਭਿ ਕਰਮ ਧਰਮ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਾਹਾ ॥ |
| sabh karam dhharam har naam japaahaa || |
| All good karma and righteous living are found in meditation on the Lord's Name. |
