| I do not know anything about spiritual wisdom, meditation or karma, and my way of life is not clean and pure. |

| The karma of their past deeds cannot be erased, O Nanak, if they have not earned the wealth of the Lord's Name. ||1|| |

| niramal roop anoop suaamee karam bhoom beejan so khaavan ||1|| |
| His form is immaculate and pure; He is the incomparable Lord and Master. Upon the field of actions and karma, whatever one plants, one eats. ||1|| |

| ਵਿਣੁ ਕਰਮਾ ਕਿਛੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਨਾਹੀ ਜੇ ਬਹੁਤੇਰਾ ਧਾਵੈ ॥ |
| vin karamaa kishh paaeeai naahee jae bahuthaeraa dhhaavai || |
| Without the karma of good deeds, nothing is obtained, although she may run around frantically. |

| ਤਿਸੁ ਜਨ ਕਰਮਿ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥ |

| He meets that humble being according to the karma of his past actions. ||1|| |

| ਪੂਰਨ ਕਰਮੁ ਹੋਇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮੇਰਾ ॥੧॥ |

| My karma is perfect, O my God. ||1|| |

| ਪੂਰਬ ਕਰਮਿ ਲਿਖਤ ਧੁਰਿ ਪਾਈ ॥੨॥ |

| by the karma of my past actions and my pre-ordained destiny. ||2|| |

| ਜਬ ਕਛੁ ਨ ਸੀਓ ਤਬ ਕਿਆ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਵਨ ਕਰਮ ਕਰਿ ਆਇਆ ॥ |
| jab kashh n seeou thab kiaa karathaa kavan karam kar aaeiaa || |
| When nothing existed, what deeds were being done? And what karma caused anyone to be born at all? |

| ਪਇਐ ਕਿਰਤਿ ਕਮਾਵਣਾ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਮੇਟਣਹਾਰ ॥੧੯॥ |
| paeiai kirath kamaavanaa koe n maettanehaar ||19|| |
| He acts in accordance with the karma of his past actions, which no one can erase. ||19|| |

| ਓਸੁ ਸੀਲੁ ਨ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਸਦਾ ਝੂਠੁ ਬੋਲੈ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਕਰਮ ਖੁਆਰੁ ॥ |
| ous seel n sanjam sadhaa jhooth bolai manamukh karam khuaar || |
| She has neither modesty or self-discipline; the self-willed manmukh constantly tells lies, and is ruined by the bad karma of evil deeds. |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਪਇਐ ਕਿਰਤਿ ਕਮਾਵਣਾ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਮੇਟਣਹਾਰੁ ॥੨॥ |

| kar kirapaa rakh laevahu maerae thaakur ham paathhar heen akaramaa ||1|| |
| Have Mercy upon me, and save me, O my Lord and Master; I am a lowly stone, with no good karma at all. ||1|| |

| ਤੁਝ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਮੇਰੇ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਹਰਿ ਜਪੀਐ ਵਡੇ ਕਰੰਮਾ ॥੨॥ |
| thujh bin avar n koee maerae thaakur har japeeai vaddae karanmaa ||2|| |
| I have no other than You, O my Lord and Master; I meditate on the Lord, by my good karma. ||2|| |

| ਓਇ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਜੋਨਿ ਭਵਾਈਅਹਿ ਮੰਦਭਾਗੀ ਮੂੜ ਅਕਰਮਾ ॥੩॥ |
| oue fir fir jon bhavaaeeahi mandhabhaagee moorr akaramaa ||3|| |
| They are consigned to reincarnation over and over again; they are the most unfortunate fools, with no good karma at all. ||3|| |
|
| ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਧਾਰੁ ਹੈ ਧੁਰਿ ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖੇ ਵਡ ਕਰਮਾ ॥ |
| har jan naam adhhaar hai dhhur poorab likhae vadd karamaa || |
| The Naam is the Support of the Lord's humble servants; their good karma is pre-ordained. |

| ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਜਲਤ ਕਿਰਤ ਕੇ ਬਾਧੇ ਜਿਉ ਤੇਲੀ ਬਲਦ ਭਵੰਦੇ ॥੨॥ |
| thrisanaa jalath kirath kae baadhhae jio thaelee baladh bhavandhae ||2|| |
| Burnt by desire, and bound by the karma of their past actions, they go round and round, like the ox at the mill press. ||2|| |
|
| ਸੇਵਕੁ ਜਨ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਮਾਗੈ ਪੂਰੈ ਕਰਮਿ ਕਮਾਵਾ ॥ |
| saevak jan kee saevaa maagai poorai karam kamaavaa || |
| I am Your servant; I beg to serve Your humble servants. By the karma of perfect destiny, I do this. |

| ਦਾਸ ਰੇਣੁ ਸੋਈ ਹੋਆ ਜਿਸੁ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਕਰਮਾ ॥ |
| dhaas raen soee hoaa jis masathak karamaa || |
| He alone becomes the dust of the Lord's slaves, who has such good karma upon his forehead. |

| ਕਰਮ ਭੂਮਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਬੋਇ ਅਉਸਰੁ ਦੁਲਭਾਇਆ ॥੨॥ |
| karam bhoom har naam boe aousar dhulabhaaeiaa ||2|| |
| In the field of actions and karma, plant the Lord's Name; this opportunity is so difficult to obtain! ||2|| |

| This body is the field of karma; the Gurmukhs plow and work it, and harvest the essence. |

| The recording scribes of the conscious and the unconscious, Chitr and Gupt, know all actions and karma. |

| ਕਰਮੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟੀਐ ਤਾ ਸਚਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੈ ॥ |
| karamee sathigur bhaetteeai thaa sach naam liv laagai || |
| By his karma, he meets the True Guru, and then, he is lovingly attuned to the True Name. |

| ਪਇਐ ਕਿਰਤਿ ਕਮਾਵਦੇ ਜਿਵ ਰਾਖਹਿ ਤਿਵੈ ਰਹੰਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ॥੧॥ |
| paeiai kirath kamaavadhae jiv raakhehi thivai rehannih ||1|| |
| They act according to the karma of the actions they committed before; as the Lord keeps them, so do they live. ||1|| |
|
| ਤਵ ਗੁਨ ਕਹਾ ਜਗਤ ਗੁਰਾ ਜਉ ਕਰਮੁ ਨ ਨਾਸੈ ॥ |
| thav gun kehaa jagath guraa jo karam n naasai || |
| What is Your value, O Guru of the world, if You will not erase the karma of my past actions? |

| ਕਰਮ ਧਰਮ ਇਹੁ ਤਤੁ ਗਿਆਨੁ ॥ |

| This is the essence of karma, righteous conduct and spiritual wisdom, |

| ਅਪਨੇ ਕਰਮ ਕੀ ਗਤਿ ਮੈ ਕਿਆ ਜਾਨਉ ॥ |

| What do I know, about the state of my karma? |

| ਕਰਮ ਬਧ ਤੁਮ ਜੀਉ ਕਹਤ ਹੌ ਕਰਮਹਿ ਕਿਨਿ ਜੀਉ ਦੀਨੁ ਰੇ ॥੨॥ |
| karam badhh thum jeeo kehath ha karamehi kin jeeo dheen rae ||2|| |
| You say that the soul is tied to its karma, but who gave karma to the body? ||2|| |
|
| ਸੋ ਧਿਆਏ ਪੂਰਾ ਜਿਸੁ ਕਰਮੁ ॥੧॥ |
| so dhhiaaeae pooraa jis karam ||1|| |
| He alone meditates on You, whose karma is perfect. ||1|| |

| ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਜਾਨਉ ਕੈਸਾ ਕਰਮ ॥੧॥ |

| I know nothing of such good karma. ||1|| |
|
| ਪਰਾ ਪੂਰਬਲਾ ਕਰਮੁ ਬਣਿ ਆਇਆ ॥ |

| My perfect pre-destined karma has been activated. |

| ਵਿਣੁ ਕਰਮਾ ਕੈਸੇ ਉਤਰਸਿ ਪਾਰੇ ॥੫॥ |
| vin karamaa kaisae outharas paarae ||5|| |
| Without the karma of good actions, how can you cross over? ||5|| |
|
| ਕਿਰਤੁ ਪਇਆ ਦੋਸੁ ਕਾ ਕਉ ਦੀਜੈ ॥੫॥ |
| kirath paeiaa dhos kaa ko dheejai ||5|| |
| He carries the karma of his own past actions; who else can he blame? ||5|| |
|
| ਏਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਕਰਮੀ ਪਾਈਐ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਆਇ ॥ |
| eaehu har ras karamee paaeeai sathigur milai jis aae || |
| This subtle essence of the Lord is obtained by good karma, when one comes to meet with the True Guru. |

| ਕਰਿ ਕਰਤੈ ਕਰਣੀ ਕਰਿ ਪਾਈ ॥ |
| kar karathai karanee kar paaee || |
| The created beings of the Creator receive the karma of their actions. |
|
| ਬਿਨੁ ਸਾਚੇ ਕਿਉ ਛੂਟੀਐ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਕਰਮਿ ਮਣੀ ॥ |
| bin saachae kio shhootteeai har gun karam manee || |
| Without the True Lord, how can anyone find release? The jewel of the Lord's Glorious Praises comes by the karma of good actions. |

| ਰੈਣਾਇਰ ਮਹਿ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਹੈ ਕਰਮੀ ਪਲੈ ਪਾਇ ॥ |
| rainaaeir mehi sabh kishh hai karamee palai paae || |
| All things are in the world-ocean, but they are obtained only by the karma of good actions. |

| ਜੇ ਬਹੁਤੇਰਾ ਲੋਚੀਐ ਵਿਣੁ ਕਰਮਾ ਪਾਇਆ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥ |
| jae bahuthaeraa locheeai vin karamaa paaeiaa n jaae || |
| No matter how much one may long for it, without the karma of good actions, it cannot be found. |

| ਕਰਣੀ ਬਾਝਹੁ ਭਿਸਤਿ ਨ ਪਾਇ ॥ |
| karanee baajhahu bhisath n paae || |
| Without the karma of good actions, heaven is not attained. |
|
| ਕਰਣੀ ਬਾਝਹੁ ਤਰੈ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥ |
| karanee baajhahu tharai n koe || |
| without the karma of good actions, no one crosses over. |
|
| ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਜਿਸੁ ਆਪਣੀ ਧੁਰਿ ਪੂਰਾ ਕਰਮੁ ਕਰੇਇ ॥ |
| kirapaa karae jis aapanee dhhur pooraa karam karaee || |
| But that being, whom the Lord has blessed with His Mercy from the very beginning, does perfect deeds, and accumulates good karma. |
|
| ਜਿਸ ਕੈ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਕਰਮੁ ਹੋਇ ਸੋ ਸੇਵਾ ਲਾਗਾ ॥ |
| jis kai masathak karam hoe so saevaa laagaa || |
| One who has such good karma inscribed upon his forehead, is committed to the Lord's service. |

| ਮਾਇ ਨ ਹੋਤੀ ਬਾਪੁ ਨ ਹੋਤਾ ਕਰਮੁ ਨ ਹੋਤੀ ਕਾਇਆ ॥ |
| maae n hothee baap n hothaa karam n hothee kaaeiaa || |
| When there was no mother and no father, no karma and no human body, |
|
| ਸਾਸਤੁ ਨ ਹੋਤਾ ਬੇਦੁ ਨ ਹੋਤਾ ਕਰਮੁ ਕਹਾਂ ਤੇ ਆਇਆ ॥੨॥ |
| saasath n hothaa baedh n hothaa karam kehaan thae aaeiaa ||2|| |
| When there were no Shaastras and no Vedas, then where did karma come from? ||2|| |

| ਖੁਲਿਆ ਕਰਮੁ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਭਈ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਗਾਈ ॥ |
| khuliaa karam kirapaa bhee thaakur keerathan har har gaaee || |
| Good karma has dawned for me - my Lord and Master has become merciful. I sing the Kirtan of the Praises of the Lord, Har, Har. |

| ਕਰਮੁ ਜਿਸ ਕਉ ਧੁਰਹੁ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਸੋਈ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਇ ॥੨॥ |
| karam jis ko dhhurahu likhiaa soee kaar kamaae ||2|| |
| He alone does such deeds, who has such pre-ordained karma. ||2|| |
|
| ਚੂਕਾ ਭਾਰਾ ਕਰਮ ਕਾ ਹੋਏ ਨਿਹਕਰਮਾ ॥ |
| chookaa bhaaraa karam kaa hoeae nihakaramaa || |
| The load of my karma has been removed, and I am now free of karma. |
|
| ਨਾਨਕ ਕਿਰਤੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ਮਿਟਾਇਓ ॥੨॥ |
