| ਕਰਮੁ ਧਰਮੁ ਸਚੁ ਹਾਥਿ ਤੁਮਾਰੈ ॥ |
| karam dhharam sach haathh thumaarai || |
| You hold karma and Dharma in Your hands, O True Lord. |

| ਕਰਮ ਧਰਮ ਨਹੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਮਾਖੀ ॥ |
| karam dhharam nehee maaeiaa maakhee || |
| There was no karma, no Dharma, no buzzing fly of Maya. |

| ਦੇਵ ਦਾਨਵ ਗਣ ਗੰਧਰਬ ਸਾਜੇ ਸਭਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੨॥ |
| dhaev dhaanav gan gandhharab saajae sabh likhiaa karam kamaaeidhaa ||12|| |
| He fashioned the demi-gods and demons, the heavenly heralds and celestial musicians; everyone acts according to their past karma. ||12|| |
|
| ਕਰਮ ਕਰਤੂਤਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਫਲੁ ਲਾਗਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਰਤਨੁ ਮਨਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੭॥ |
| karam karathooth anmrith fal laagaa har naam rathan man paaeiaa ||7|| |
| The good karma of past actions brings fruitful rewards, and man is blessed with the jewel of the Lord's Name. ||7|| |
|
| ਬੂਝੈ ਕਰਮੁ ਸੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ॥ |
| boojhai karam s sabadh pashhaanai || |
| One who understands karma, realizes the Word of the Shabad. |
|
| ਜਿਨਿ ਤੂ ਜਾਤਾ ਕਰਮ ਬਿਧਾਤਾ ॥ |
| jin thoo jaathaa karam bidhhaathaa || |
| One who knows You as the Architect of Karma, |
|
| ਸਭਨਾ ਜੀਆ ਕਾ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਪੂਰੈ ਕਰਮਿ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥੧੦॥ |
| sabhanaa jeeaa kaa sukhadhaathaa poorai karam dhhiaaeiaa ||10|| |
| You are the Giver of peace to all beings; by perfect karma, we meditate on You. ||10|| |
|
| ਬਿਨੁ ਕਰਮਾ ਹੋਰ ਫਿਰੈ ਘਨੇਰੀ ॥ |
| bin karamaa hor firai ghanaeree || |
| Without good karma, countless others wander around. |
|
| ਪੂਰੈ ਕਰਮਿ ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਜਪੁ ਜਪਨਾ ॥ |
| poorai karam gur kaa jap japanaa || |
| has perfect karma, and chants the Chant of the Guru. |
|
| ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਮਨਿ ਵੂਠਾ ਸੋ ਪੂਰ ਕਰੰਮਾ ਨਾ ਛਿਨਾ ॥੧੧॥ |
| paarabreham jaa kai man voothaa so poor karanmaa naa shhinaa ||11|| |
| That person, within whose mind the Supreme Lord God abides, has perfect karma, and becomes famous. ||11|| |
|
| ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਬਿਸਰੈ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਬਿਧਾਤਾ ॥ |
| jis no bisarai purakh bidhhaathaa || |
| One who forgets the Primal Lord, the Architect of karma, |
|
| ਸੋਈ ਪੂਰਨ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਬਿਧਾਤਾ ॥ |
| soee pooran purakh bidhhaathaa || |
| He is the Perfect Primal Lord, the Architect of karma. |
|
| ਬਿਨੁ ਕਰਮਾ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਜੇ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਲੋਚਾਹੀ ॥ |
| bin karamaa kishhoo n paaeeai jae bahuth lochaahee || |
| Without good karma, he does not obtain anything, no matter how much he may wish for it. |
|
| ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਚਿਤਿ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਹੀ ਕਰੰਮ ॥੧॥ |
| so prabh chith n aavee naanak nehee karanm ||1|| |
| You do not even think of that God; O Nanak, it is not in your karma. ||1|| |
|
| ਵਿਣੁ ਕਰਮਾ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮਨੂਆ ਨ ਲਗੈ ॥ |
| vin karamaa har jeeo n paaeeai bin sathigur manooaa n lagai || |
| Without good karma, the Dear Lord is not found; without the True Guru, the mind is not joined to Him. |
|
| ਕਰਮੁ ਖੁਲਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਸੁਆਮੀ ॥ |
| karam khulaa gur paaeiaa har miliaa suaamee || |
| When one's karma is activated, one finds the Guru, and through Him, the Lord and Master is found. |
|
| ਬਿਨੁ ਕਰਮਾ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਲਭਈ ਜੇ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਸਭ ਧਰਣਾ ॥ |
| bin karamaa kishhoo n labhee jae firehi sabh dhharanaa || |
| Without good karma, you shall obtain nothing, even if you wander across the whole world. |
|
| ਤੂ ਸੁਣਿ ਕਿਰਤ ਕਰੰਮਾ ਪੁਰਬਿ ਕਮਾਇਆ ॥ਸਿਰਿ ਸਿਰਿ ਸੁਖ ਸਹੰਮਾ ਦੇਹਿ ਸੁ ਤੂ ਭਲਾ ॥ |
| thoo sun kirath karanmaa purab kamaaeiaa || sir sir sukh sehanmaa dhaehi s thoo bhalaa || |
| Listen: according to the karma of their past actions, each and every person experiences happiness or sorrow; whatever You give, Lord, is good. |
|
| ਸੇਵਕ ਪੂਰ ਕਰੰਮਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਦਿਖਾਲਿਆ ਰਾਮ ॥ |
| saevak poor karanmaa sathigur sabadh dhikhaaliaa raam || |
| The True Guru reveals the Word of the Shabad to His servant who has such perfect karma. |
|
| ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਕਿਰਤ ਕੈ ਬਾਂਧੈ ਭੇਖੁ ਭਇਆ ॥੪॥ |
| raam naam bin thripath n aavai kirath kai baandhhai bhaekh bhaeiaa ||4|| |
| But without the Lord's Name, he is not satisfied; he wears religious robes, but he is bound by the karma of the actions he committed in past lives. ||4|| |
|
| ਕਰਮੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਗੁਰੁ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰੈ ॥ |
| karam hovai gur kirapaa karai || |
| When the mortal has good karma, the Guru grants His Grace. |
|
| ਪੂਰਬਿ ਕਰਮ ਲਿਖੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਉ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| poorab karam likhae gun gaao ||1|| rehaao || |
| Because of the karma of my past deeds, I sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||1||Pause|| |
|
| ਜਿਸੁ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਕਰਮੁ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਲਿਲਾਟ ॥ |
| jis masathak karam likhiaa lilaatt || |
| One whose good karma is recorded on his forehead |
|
| ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਪੂਰਨ ਕਰਮਾ ॥ |
| kahu naanak jaa kae pooran karamaa || |
| Says Nanak, one whose karma is perfect |
|
| ਕਿਰਤ ਸੰਜੋਗੀ ਦੈਤਿ ਰਾਜੁ ਚਲਾਇਆ ॥ |
| kirath sanjogee dhaith raaj chalaaeiaa || |
| Because of his past karma, the demon ruled over his kingdom. |
|
| ਜਾ ਕੇ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਲਿਖਿਓ ਕਰਮਾ ॥ |
| jaa kae masathak likhiou karamaa || |
| One who has good karma recorded on his forehead, |
|
| ਕਰਮ ਪੇਡੁ ਸਾਖਾ ਹਰੀ ਧਰਮੁ ਫੁਲੁ ਫਲੁ ਗਿਆਨੁ ॥ |
| karam paedd saakhaa haree dhharam ful fal giaan || |
| Karma is the tree, the Lord's Name the branches, Dharmic faith the flowers, and spiritual wisdom the fruit. |
|
| ਜੇਤੇ ਜੀਅ ਲਿਖੀ ਸਿਰਿ ਕਾਰ ॥ |
| jaethae jeea likhee sir kaar || |
| Each person's karma is written on his forehead. |
|
| ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਸੁਹਾਵੀ ਕਰਮਿ ਭਾਗੁ ॥੩॥ |
| har bhagath suhaavee karam bhaag ||3|| |
| Devotion to the Lord is wonderful; it comes through good karma and destiny. ||3|| |
|
| ਬਿਨੁ ਭਾਗਾ ਸਤਸੰਗੁ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਕਰਮਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਰੀ ॥੨॥ |
| bin bhaagaa sathasang n paaeeai karam milai har naam haree ||2|| |
| Without good destiny, the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, is not obtained. By the grace of one's good karma, the Lord's Name is received. ||2|| |
|
| ਬਿਨੁ ਕਰਮਾ ਸਭ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਈ ॥ |
| bin karamaa sabh bharam bhulaaee || |
| Without the grace of good karma, all are deluded by doubt. |
|
| ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਧੰਧੈ ਬਾਂਧਾ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਇ ॥ |
| eihu man dhhandhhai baandhhaa karam kamaae || |
| This mind is entangled in worldly affairs, creating more and more karma. |
|
| ਹਮਰੇ ਕਰਮ ਨ ਬਿਚਰਹੁ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਤੁਮ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਪੈਜ ਰਖਹੁ ਅਪਨੀਧੇ ॥ |
| hamarae karam n bicharahu thaakur thumh paij rakhahu apaneedhhae || |
| Please, do not take my karma into account, O my Lord and Master; please save the honor of Your slave. |

| ਕਿਰਤ ਰੇਖ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਮਿਆ ॥ |
| kirath raekh kar karamiaa || |
| He acts in accordance with the karma of his past actions. |
|
| ਕਰਮ ਭਾਵਨੀ ਸੰਗ ਲੀਨ ॥ |
| karam bhaavanee sang leen || |
| They are led on by the karma of their past actions. |
|
| ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਕਾਟੈ ਕੋਟਿ ਕਰਮ ॥੩॥੧॥ |
| gur kaa sabadh kaattai kott karam ||3||1|| |
| The Word of the Guru's Shabad eradicates the karma of millions of past actions. ||3||1|| |
|
| ਬਿਨੁ ਕਰਮਾ ਕਿਉ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਹਉਮੈ ਬਿਆਪਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਮਨੁ ਝੂਰਿ ॥੩॥ |
| bin karamaa kio sangath paaeeai houmai biaap rehiaa man jhoor ||3|| |
| Without good karma, how can I find the Sangat? Engrossed in egotism, the mortal remains stuck in regret. ||3|| |
|
| ਸਰਬ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਨਾਮਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਕਰਮਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਤਿਨਿ ਪਾਵਾ ॥ |
| sarab nidhhaan naam har har kai jis karam likhiaa thin paavaa || |
| All treasures are in the Name of the Lord, Har, Har; he alone obtains it, who has it written in his karma. |

| ਖੁਲ੍ਹ੍ਹਿਓ ਕਰਮੁ ਭਇਓ ਪਰਗਾਸਾ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਡੀਠਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| khulihou karam bhaeiou paragaasaa ghatt ghatt har har ddeethaa ||1|| rehaao || |
| My karma has been activated, and the Divine Radiance of the Lord, Har, Har, is manifest in each and every heart. ||1||Pause|| |
|
| ਉਦਮੁ ਕਰਉ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਪੇਖਨ ਕੌ ਕਰਮਿ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥ |
| oudham karo dharasan paekhan ka karam paraapath hoe ||1|| |
| I have made the effort to gaze upon the Blessed Vision of His Darshan; it is obtained only by good karma. ||1|| |
|
| ਭਇਓ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ਦੀਨ ਦੁਖ ਭੰਜਨੁ ਪਰਾ ਪੂਰਬਲਾ ਜੋਰ ॥ |
| bhaeiou kirapaal dheen dhukh bhanjan paraa poorabalaa jor || |
| The Destroyer of the pains of the poor has become merciful to me, by the power of the karma of my past actions. |
|
| ਨਾਨਕ ਕਰਮੀ ਬੰਦਗੀ ਨਦਰਿ ਲੰਘਾਏ ਪਾਰਿ ॥੨॥ |
| naanak karamee bandhagee nadhar langhaaeae paar ||2|| |
| O Nanak, by the karma of good actions, the mortal comes to meditate on the Lord; by His Grace, we are carried across. ||2|| |
|
| ਨਾਨਕ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਕਰਾਮੁ ॥੨॥ |
| naanak sathigur saev sukh paaeiaa jinh poorab likhiaa karaam ||2|| |
| O Nanak, those who have the karma of such pre-ordained destiny, serve the True Guru and find peace. ||2|| |
|
| ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੀ ਅਰਾਧਿਆ ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਕਰਮਿ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥ |
| har guramukh thinhee araadhhiaa jinh karam paraapath hoe || |
| The Gurmukhs worship and adore the Lord; they receive the good karma of their actions. |
|
| ਭਈ ਨਿਰਾਸੀ ਕਰਮ ਕੀ ਫਾਸੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਨੀ ॥੧॥ |
| bhee niraasee karam kee faasee bin gur bharam bhulaanee ||1|| |
| She becomes hopeless, caught in the noose of her own karma; without the Guru, she wanders deluded by doubt. ||1|| |
|
| ਨਾਨਕ ਕਰਮੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਜਪੀਐ ਕਰਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੀਰੁ ॥ |
| naanak karam hovai japeeai kar gur peer || |
| O Nanak, if it is in the mortal's karma, then he meditates on the Lord, with the Guru as his Spiritual Teacher. |
|
| ਜਾ ਕਉ ਕਰਮਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਧੁਰਿ ਆਏ ॥੩॥ |
| jaa ko karam likhiaa dhhur aaeae ||3|| |
| who has such karma inscribed on his forehead by the Primal Lord. ||3|| |
|
| ਕਰਮੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਤਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਵਿਣੁ ਕਰਮੈ ਪਾਇਆ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥ |
| karam hovai thaa sathigur paaeeai vin karamai paaeiaa n jaae || |
| If it is in his karma, then he finds the True Guru; without such karma, He cannot be found. |
|
| ਲਾਹਾ ਹਰਿ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਕਰਮੀ ਪਲੈ ਪਾਇ ॥੫॥ |
| laahaa har sathasangath paaeeai karamee palai paae ||5|| |
| The profit of the Lord is obtained in the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation; by good karma, it is found. ||5|| |
|
| ਤਿਨ ਜਾਤਿ ਨ ਪਤਿ ਨ ਕਰਮੁ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥ |
| thin jaath n path n karam janam gavaaeiaa || |
| They have no status, no honor, and no good karma. They waste away their lives in vain. |
