| ਭਏ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ਗੁਸਾਈਆ ਨਠੇ ਸੋਗ ਸੰਤਾਪ ॥ |
| bheae kirapaal gusaaeeaa nathae sog santhaap || |
| When the Lord of the Universe became merciful, sorrow and suffering departed. |

| ਬਿਨੁ ਜਗਦੀਸ ਭਜੇ ਨਿਤ ਖੁਆਰੀ ॥੩॥ |
| bin jagadhees bhajae nith khuaaree ||3|| |
| But without meditating on the Lord of the Universe, there is only continual suffering. ||3|| |
|
| ਵਡੇ ਕਹਾਵਹਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਤਨਿ ਪੀਰਾ ॥ |
| vaddae kehaavehi houmai than peeraa || |
| call themselves great; but through their egotism, their bodies are suffering in pain. |
|
| ਹਉਮੈ ਮਮਤਾ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਦੁਖ ਨਾਸੁ ॥ |
| houmai mamathaa dhuramath dhukh naas || |
| Egotism, possessiveness, evil-mindedness and suffering depart, |
|
| ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਦੂਖੁ ਸਗਲ ਮਿਟਾਈ ॥ |
| har naam dhhiaaeiaa dhookh sagal mittaaee || |
| I have meditated on the Name of the Lord, and all my sufferings have been erased. |

| ਜਾਸੁ ਜਪਤ ਫਿਰਿ ਦੂਖੁ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ॥ |
| jaas japath fir dhookh n laagai || |
| Meditating on Him, suffering shall never again overtake you. |
|
| ਤਹ ਭਉ ਭਰਮਾ ਸੋਗੁ ਨ ਚਿੰਤਾ ॥ |
| theh bho bharamaa sog n chinthaa || |
| There is no fear, doubt, suffering or anxiety there; |
|
| ਜੋ ਇਸੁ ਮਾਰੇ ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਜਾਈ ॥੧॥ |
| jo eis maarae this kaa dhukh jaaee ||1|| |
| One who kills this is freed of suffering. ||1|| |
|
| ਖਿਨ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਗਲਾ ਦੂਖੁ ਮਿਟਿਆ ਮਨਹੁ ਚਿੰਦਿਆ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ |
| khin maahi sagalaa dhookh mittiaa manahu chindhiaa paaeiaa || |
| In an instant, all suffering is removed. I have obtained all my mind's desires. |

| ਰੋਗ ਸੋਗ ਸਭਿ ਦੋਖ ਬਿਨਸਹਿ ਜਪਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੁਰਾਰੀ ॥ |
| rog sog sabh dhokh binasehi japath naam muraaree || |
| All illnesses, sufferings and pains are dispelled, by chanting the Name of the Lord. |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਤਾ ਕਉ ਦੂਖੁ ਨ ਬਿਆਪੈ ॥੫੦॥ |
| naanak thaa ko dhookh n biaapai ||50|| |
| O Nanak, are not afflicted by suffering. ||50|| |

| ਦੀਨ ਦਰਦ ਦੁਖ ਭੰਜਨਾ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਨਾਥ ਅਨਾਥ ॥ |
| dheen dharadh dhukh bhanjanaa ghatt ghatt naathh anaathh || |
| O Destroyer of the pains and the suffering of the poor, O Master of each and every heart, O Masterless One: |

| ਸਾਧ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਨਹੀ ਕਛੁ ਘਾਲ ॥ |
| saadhh kai sang nehee kashh ghaal || |
| In the Company of the Holy, there is no suffering. |
|
| ਨਰਕ ਨਿਵਾਰੈ ਦੁਖ ਹਰੈ ਤੂਟਹਿ ਅਨਿਕ ਕਲੇਸ ॥ |
| narak nivaarai dhukh harai thoottehi anik kalaes || |
| One is saved from hell, suffering is destroyed, countless pains depart, |

| ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀਆ ਨੋ ਦੁਖ ਭੁਖ ਹੈ ਹਥੁ ਤਡਹਿ ਘਰਿ ਘਰਿ ਮੰਗਾਇ ॥ |
| ahankaareeaa no dhukh bhukh hai hathh thaddehi ghar ghar mangaae || |
| Suffering and hunger cling to the egotistical people; they hold out their hands and beg from door to door. |
|
| ਨਰਕ ਘੋਰੁ ਦੁਖ ਖੂਹੁ ਹੈ ਓਥੈ ਪਕੜਿ ਓਹੁ ਢੋਇਆ ॥ |
| narak ghor dhukh khoohu hai outhhai pakarr ouhu dtoeiaa || |
| He is caught and thrown into the most horrible hell, the well of pain and suffering. |
|
| ਨਰਕ ਘੋਰ ਬਹੁ ਦੁਖ ਘਣੇ ਅਕਿਰਤਘਣਾ ਕਾ ਥਾਨੁ ॥ |
| narak ghor bahu dhukh ghanae akirathaghanaa kaa thhaan || |
| In the most horrible hell, there is terrible pain and suffering. It is the place of the ungrateful. |
|
| ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਦਾ ਸਮਾਲਹਿ ਮਿਤ੍ਰ ਤੂ ਦੁਖੁ ਸਬਾਇਆ ਲਥੁ ॥੧॥ |
| prabh sadhaa samaalehi mithr thoo dhukh sabaaeiaa lathh ||1|| |
| Remember God forever, my friend, and all your suffering will disappear. ||1|| |
|
| ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇਆ ਸਭਿ ਦੋਖਹ ਖਾਤਾ ॥ |
| saadhhasang gun gaaeiaa sabh dhokheh khaathaa || |
| In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, he sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord, and all of his sufferings are removed. |
|
| ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਸੇਵਿਐ ਦੂਖਾ ਕਾ ਹੋਇ ਨਾਸੁ ॥ |
| sathigur poorai saeviai dhookhaa kaa hoe naas || |
| Serving the Perfect True Guru, suffering ends. |

| ਧਾਵਤ ਜੋਨਿ ਜਨਮ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਥਾਕੇ ਅਬ ਦੁਖ ਕਰਿ ਹਮ ਹਾਰਿਓ ਰੇ ॥ |
| dhhaavath jon janam bhram thhaakae ab dhukh kar ham haariou rae || |
| I have wandered in doubt and confusion, through birth and reincarnation; now, I am so tired. I am suffering in pain and wasting away. |
|
| ਸੰਪੈ ਦੇਖਿ ਨ ਹਰਖੀਐ ਬਿਪਤਿ ਦੇਖਿ ਨ ਰੋਇ ॥ |
| sanpai dhaekh n harakheeai bipath dhaekh n roe || |
| Don't feel so delighted at the sight of wealth, and don't weep at the sight of suffering and adversity. |
|
| ਦੂਖੁ ਅੰਦੋਹੁ ਨਹੀ ਤਿਹਿ ਠਾਉ ॥ |
| dhookh andhohu nehee thihi thaao || |
| There is no suffering or anxiety there. |
|
| ਝੂਠ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਮਹਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਦੇਹ ॥ |
| jhooth vikaar mehaa dhukh dhaeh || |
| Falsehood and corruption cause terrible suffering. |
|
| ਦੀਵਾ ਮੇਰਾ ਏਕੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਵਿਚਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਤੇਲੁ ॥ |
| dheevaa maeraa eaek naam dhukh vich paaeiaa thael || |
| The One Name is my lamp; I have put the oil of suffering into it. |
|
| ਜਿਸੁ ਜਨ ਊਪਰਿ ਤੇਰੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤਿਸ ਕਉ ਬਿਪੁ ਨ ਕੋਊ ਭਾਖੈ ॥੨॥ |
| jis jan oopar thaeree kirapaa this ko bip n kooo bhaakhai ||2|| |
| That humble being, upon whom You bestow Your Grace, is not touched by slander or suffering. ||2|| |
|
| ਭਈ ਕਲਿਆਣ ਦੁਖ ਹੋਵਤ ਨਾਸੁ ॥੧॥ |
| bhee kaliaan dhukh hovath naas ||1|| |
| one becomes happy, and suffering is ended. ||1|| |
|
| ਕਿਲਬਿਖ ਬਿਨਾਸੇ ਦੁਖ ਦਰਦ ਦੂਰਿ ॥ |
| kilabikh binaasae dhukh dharadh dhoor || |
| My sins have been erased, and my sufferings and pains are gone. |
|
| ਤਾਂ ਦੂਖੁ ਭਰਮੁ ਕਹੁ ਕੈਸੇ ਨੇਰਾ ॥੧॥ |
| thaan dhookh bharam kahu kaisae naeraa ||1|| |
| then, tell me, how can suffering or doubt draw near me? ||1|| |
|
| ਮਿਟਿ ਗਇਆ ਦੂਖੁ ਬਿਸਾਰੀ ਚਿੰਤਾ ॥ |
| mitt gaeiaa dhookh bisaaree chinthaa || |
| My suffering has been ended, and my anxiety is forgotten. |
|
| ਦੁਖ ਦੂਰਿ ਕਰਨ ਜੀਅ ਕੇ ਦਾਤਾਰਾ ॥ |
| dhukh dhoor karan jeea kae dhaathaaraa || |
| They dispel suffering; they are givers of the life of the soul. |
|
| ਰੋਗ ਸੋਗ ਸਭ ਦੂਖ ਬਿਨਾਸੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| rog sog sabh dhookh binaasae sathigur kee saranaaee || rehaao || |
| All illness, sorrows and sufferings are dispelled, in the Sanctuary of the True Guru. ||Pause|| |
|
| ਜਿਸੁ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਦੁਖੁ ਜਾਇ ਸਹਜ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਈਐ ॥ |
| jis simarath dhukh jaae sehaj sukh paaeeai || |
| Remembering Him, suffering is removed, and celestial peace is obtained. |
|
| ਦੂਖਨਿ ਗਾਵਉ ਸੁਖਿ ਭੀ ਗਾਵਉ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਪੰਥਿ ਸਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਰੀ ॥ |
| dhookhan gaavo sukh bhee gaavo maarag panthh samhaaree || |
| I sing His Praises while suffering, and I sing His Praises while I am at peace as well. I contemplate Him while I walk along the Path. |

| ਤਬ ਤੇ ਮਿਟੇ ਤਾਪ ਹਾਂ ॥ |
| thab thae mittae thaap haan || |
| my sufferings have ended. |
|
| ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਦੁਖ ਕਾਟੇ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸੁ ॥੯॥ |
| kilavikh dhukh kaattae har naam pragaas ||9|| |
| There, sins and sufferings are erased, and one is illumined with the Lord's Name. ||9|| |
|
| ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਸਭ ਦੂਖ ਵਿਸਾਰਣਹਾਰੁ ॥ |
| har jeeo man vasai sabh dhookh visaaranehaar || |
| The Dear Lord dwells in the mind, and all suffering departs. |
|
| ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਪਾਏ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਏ ਲਾਥੇ ਦੂਖ ਸੰਤਾਪੈ ॥ |
| vaddabhaagee paaeae naam dhhiaaeae laathhae dhookh santhaapai || |
| By great good fortune, I obtained it, and I meditate on the Naam, the Name of the Lord; my pains and sufferings have been taken away. |
|
| ਮਿਟੇ ਦੂਖ ਕਲਿਆਣ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਬਹੁੜਿ ਜੋਨਿ ਨ ਪਾਵਾ ॥ |
| mittae dhookh kaliaan keerathan bahurr jon n paavaa || |
| Suffering departs, and there is peace; singing the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises, one is not consigned to reincarnation again. |
|
| ਭਰਮੇ ਜਨਮ ਅਨੇਕ ਸੰਕਟ ਮਹਾ ਜੋਨ ॥ |
| bharamae janam anaek sankatt mehaa jon || |
| I have wandered through countless incarnations, suffering terrible pain in these lives. |
|
| ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਉਰ ਹਾਰੁ ਬਿਖੁ ਕੇ ਦਿਵਸ ਗਏ ॥ |
| raam naam our haar bikh kae dhivas geae || |
| One who wears the necklace of the Lord's Name - his days of suffering are ended. |
|
| ਦੂਖਾ ਸਜਾਈ ਗਣਤ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੀਆ ਅਪਣਾ ਪਾਇਓ ॥ |
| dhookhaa sajaaee ganath naahee keeaa apanaa paaeiou || |
| His sufferings and punishments are beyond reckoning; he receives the consequences of his own actions. |
|
| ਨਿਧਿ ਸਿਧਿ ਚਰਣ ਗਹੇ ਤਾ ਕੇਹਾ ਕਾੜਾ ॥ |
| nidhh sidhh charan gehae thaa kaehaa kaarraa || |
| Grasping the Lord's Feet, the treasure of the Siddhas, what suffering can I feel? |
|
| ਦੁਖੁ ਦਾਰੂ ਸੁਖੁ ਰੋਗੁ ਭਇਆ ਜਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਤਾਮਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥ |
| dhukh dhaaroo sukh rog bhaeiaa jaa sukh thaam n hoee || |
| Suffering is the medicine, and pleasure the disease, because where there is pleasure, there is no desire for God. |
|
| ਸੇਜੈ ਰਮਤੁ ਨੈਨ ਨਹੀ ਪੇਖਉ ਇਹੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਕਾ ਸਉ ਕਹਉ ਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| saejai ramath nain nehee paekho eihu dhukh kaa so keho rae ||1|| rehaao || |
| He rests in the bed of my mind, but I cannot see Him with my eyes. Unto whom should I tell my sufferings? ||1||Pause|| |
|
| ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਰਸ ਕਸ ਦੁਖੁ ਖਾਵੈ ਮੁਖੁ ਫੀਕਾ ਥੁਕ ਥੂਕ ਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਈ ॥੩॥ |
| naam binaa ras kas dhukh khaavai mukh feekaa thhuk thhook mukh paaee ||3|| |
| Without the Naam, the Name of the Lord, one obtains only suffering for his delicacies to eat. His mouth is insipid, and his face is spat upon, again and again. ||3|| |
|
| ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਮਿਟਾਇਆ ॥ |
| santh janaa kai sang dhukh mittaaeiaa || |
| In the Society of the Saints, I am rid of my pain and suffering. |
|
| ਨਾਨਕ ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਣੀਆ ਮਰਉ ਵਿਚਾਰੀ ਸੂਲਿ ॥੨॥ |
| naanak jo prabh bhaaneeaa maro vichaaree sool ||2|| |
| O Nanak, those who are pleasing to God, have their cries of suffering taken away. ||2|| |
|
| ਦਇਆ ਧਾਰੀ ਸਮਰਥਿ ਚੁਕੇ ਬਿਲ ਬਿਲਾਪ ॥ |
| dhaeiaa dhhaaree samarathh chukae bil bilaap || |
| The all-powerful Lord has shown Mercy, and my cries of suffering are ended. |
|
| ਦੂਖੁ ਦਰਦੁ ਵਡ ਰੋਗੁ ਨ ਪੋਹੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਮਾਇ ॥ |
| dhookh dharadh vadd rog n pohae this maae || |
| Suffering, pain, terrible disease and Maya do not afflict them. |
