| ਦੁਖੀਆ ਦਰਦ ਘਣੇ ਵੇਦਨ ਜਾਣੇ ਤੂ ਧਣੀ ॥ |
| dhukheeaa dharadh ghanae vaedhan jaanae thoo dhhanee || |
| The miserable endure so much suffering and pain; You alone know their pain, Lord. |

| ਗੁਰਿ ਬਖਸਿਆ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਸਭੋ ਦੁਖੁ ਲਥਾ ॥ |
| gur bakhasiaa naam nidhhaan sabho dhukh lathhaa || |
| The Guru has blessed me with the treasure of the Naam; I am rid of all sufferings. |

| ਸੇਜ ਇਕੇਲੀ ਖਰੀ ਦੁਹੇਲੀ ਮਰਣੁ ਭਇਆ ਦੁਖੁ ਮਾਏ ॥ |
| saej eikaelee kharee dhuhaelee maran bhaeiaa dhukh maaeae || |
| My bed is lonely, and I am suffering in agony. I am dying in pain, O my mother! |

| ਹਉਮੈ ਗੁਰਿ ਖੋਈ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਹੋਈ ਚੂਕੇ ਸੋਗ ਸੰਤਾਪੈ ॥ |
| houmai gur khoee paragatt hoee chookae sog santhaapai || |
| The Guru has rid me of egotism; my sorrow and suffering are dispelled. |

| ਕਲਿ ਕਲੇਸ ਨ ਕਛੁ ਬਿਆਪੈ ਸੰਤਸੰਗਿ ਬਿਉਹਾਰੁ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| kal kalaes n kashh biaapai santhasang biouhaar || rehaao || |
| Suffering and conflict do not afflict me; I deal only with the Society of the Saints. ||Pause|| |

| ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਮਹਾ ਸ੍ਰਮੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਜੈਸੇ ਬਿਰਖ ਜੰਤੀ ਜੋਤ ॥੧॥ |
| aath pehar mehaa sram paaeiaa jaisae birakh janthee joth ||1|| |
| Twenty-four hours a day, he endures terrible suffering, like the bull, chained to the oil-press. ||1|| |
|
| ਅਭੈ ਪਦ ਪੂਰਿ ਤਾਪ ਤਹ ਨਾਸੇ ਕਹਿ ਕਬੀਰ ਬੀਚਾਰੀ ॥ |
| abhai padh poor thaap theh naasae kehi kabeer beechaaree || |
| When the mortal fully realizes the state of fearless dignity, then his sufferings vanish; so says Kabeer after careful deliberation. |

| ਜਗਨ ਹੋਮ ਪੁੰਨ ਤਪ ਪੂਜਾ ਦੇਹ ਦੁਖੀ ਨਿਤ ਦੂਖ ਸਹੈ ॥ |
| jagan hom punn thap poojaa dhaeh dhukhee nith dhookh sehai || |
| You may give feasts, make burnt offerings, donate to charity, perform austere penance and worship, and endure pain and suffering in the body. |
|
| ਸਿਮਰਨਿ ਤਾ ਕੈ ਮਿਟਹਿ ਸੰਤਾਪ ॥ |
| simaran thaa kai mittehi santhaap || |
| Meditating in remembrance on Him, sufferings are erased. |
|
| ਦੁਖੀਏ ਕਾ ਮਿਟਾਵਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸੋਗੁ ॥ |
| dhukheeeae kaa mittaavahu prabh sog || |
| God takes away the sorrows of the suffering. |
|
| ਮਿਟਹਿ ਕਲੇਸ ਸੁਖ ਸਹਜਿ ਨਿਵਾਸੁ ॥ |
| mittehi kalaes sukh sehaj nivaas || |
| Suffering is eradicated, and one comes to dwell in peace and poise. |
|
| ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾ ਕਉ ਜਮੁ ਜੋਹਿ ਨ ਸਾਕੈ ਰਤੀ ਅੰਚ ਦੂਖ ਨ ਲਾਈ ॥ |
| santh janaa ko jam johi n saakai rathee anch dhookh n laaee || |
| The Messenger of Death cannot even touch the humble Saints; it does not cause them even an iota of suffering or pain. |

| ਸਭਿ ਦੂਖ ਬਿਨਾਸੇ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਇ ॥੩॥ |
| sabh dhookh binaasae raam raae ||3|| |
| You dispel all his sufferings, O Sovereign Lord God. ||3|| |
|
| ਮਨਮੁਖੀ ਦੁਹਾਗਣਿ ਨਾਹਿ ਭੇਉ ॥ |
| manamukhee dhuhaagan naahi bhaeo || |
| The self-willed manmukhs, suffering in separation, do not understand this mystery. |
|
| ਗੁਰ ਸੰਤ ਸਭਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਮਿਟੈ ਰੋਗੁ ॥ |
| gur santh sabhaa dhukh mittai rog || |
| Associating with the Saint Guru, suffering and sickness are ended. |
|
| ਮਾਇਆ ਮੂਠਾ ਸਦਾ ਬਿਲਲਾਇ ॥੨॥ |
| maaeiaa moothaa sadhaa bilalaae ||2|| |
| Enchanted by Maya, it cries out in suffering forever. ||2|| |

| ਸਭੁ ਆਲਸੁ ਦੂਖ ਭੰਜਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਗਾਵਹੁ ਗੁਣ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੇਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| sabh aalas dhookh bhanj prabh paaeiaa guramath gaavahu gun prabh kaerae ||1|| rehaao || |
| God the Destroyer of all depression and suffering is found, through the Guru's Teachings, singing the Glorious Praises of God. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਜਾ ਕੈ ਸਿਮਰਨਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥ |

| Remembering Him in meditation, there is no pain or suffering. |

| ਭਵ ਖੰਡਨ ਦੁਖ ਨਾਸ ਦੇਵ ॥ |

| God is the Destroyer of fear, the Remover of pain and suffering. |

| ਗੁਰ ਚਰਣ ਸਰੇਵਤ ਦੁਖੁ ਗਇਆ ॥ |

| Dwelling at the Guru's Feet, pain and suffering go away. |

| ਸੋਗ ਸੰਤਾਪ ਕਟੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਆਪਿ ॥ |
| sog santhaap kattae prabh aap || |
| God Himself has dispelled my sorrow and suffering. |

| ਦੂਖੁ ਘਣੋ ਮਰੀਐ ਕਰਤਾਰਾ ॥ |
| dhookh ghano mareeai karathaaraa || |
| I am suffering and dying, O my Creator. |
|
| ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਕਿਉ ਰਹੀਐ ਦੁਖੁ ਬਿਆਪੈ ॥ |
| har bin kio reheeai dhukh biaapai || |
| How can I survive without the Lord? I am suffering in pain. |

| ਸਭ ਦੂਖਨ ਕੋ ਹੰਤਾ ਸਭ ਸੂਖਨ ਕੋ ਦਾਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਓੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| sabh dhookhan ko hanthaa sabh sookhan ko dhaathaa har preetham gun gaao ||1|| rehaao || |
| He is the Destroyer of all suffering, the Giver of all peace; sing the Praises of my Beloved Lord God. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਕਲਿ ਕਲੇਸ ਮਿਟੇ ਸਭਿ ਤਨ ਤੇ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਲਿਵ ਜਾਗੇ ॥੨॥ |
| kal kalaes mittae sabh than thae raam naam liv jaagae ||2|| |
| All their sufferings and struggles are wiped away from their bodies; they remain lovingly awake and aware in the Name of the Lord. ||2|| |

| ਨਿਕਟਿ ਸੁਨਉ ਅਰੁ ਪੇਖਉ ਨਾਹੀ ਭਰਮਿ ਭਰਮਿ ਦੁਖ ਭਰੀਆ ॥ |
| nikatt suno ar paekho naahee bharam bharam dhukh bhareeaa || |
| I hear that You are near, but I cannot see You. I wander in suffering, deluded by doubt. |

| ਆਨ ਬਾਪਾਰ ਬਨਜ ਜੋ ਕਰੀਅਹਿ ਤੇਤੇ ਦੂਖ ਸਹਾਮਾ ॥ |
| aan baapaar banaj jo kareeahi thaethae dhookh sehaamaa || |
| The other deals and trades which I did, brought only sorrow and suffering. |

| ਗੁਰ ਉਪਦੇਸਿ ਸਾਧ ਕੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਬਿਨਸਿਓ ਸਗਲ ਸੰਤਾਪੁ ॥ |
| gur oupadhaes saadhh kee sangath binasiou sagal santhaap || |
| Through the Guru's Instruction, and the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, all sorrow and suffering is taken away. |

| ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਬੁਝੀ ਪੂਰਨ ਸਭ ਆਸਾ ਚੂਕੇ ਸੋਗ ਸੰਤਾਪ ॥ |
| thrisanaa bujhee pooran sabh aasaa chookae sog santhaap || |
| My thirst is quenched, and my hopes have all been fulfilled; my sorrows and sufferings are over. |

| ਏਕ ਸਰਨ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਚਰਨ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਸਗਲ ਤਾਪ ਹਰਨ ॥ |
| eaek saran gobindh charan sansaar sagal thaap haran || |
| Only the Sanctuary of the Feet of the Lord of the Universe can destroy all the suffering of the world. |

| ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਦੂਖ ਨਿਵਾਰਣੁ ਸਬਦੇ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਈ ॥ |
| maeraa prabh saachaa dhookh nivaaran sabadhae paaeiaa jaaee || |
| My True Lord God, the Eradicator of suffering, is found through the Word of the Shabad. |

| ਕਲਿ ਕਲੇਸ ਮਿਟੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਨ ਜੋਨੀ ਮਾਟ ॥੨॥੧੦॥੧੪॥ |
| kal kalaes mittae dhaas naanak bahur n jonee maatt ||2||10||14|| |
| Slave Nanak's sorrow and suffering has ended. He shall never again be squeezed into the mold of reincarnation. ||2||10||14|| |

| Doubt, fear, pain and suffering are taken away, |

| The world is suffering from the terrible disease of egotism. |

| ਕਲਮਲਿ ਹੋਈ ਮੇਦਨੀ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ਕਰੇ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥ |
| kalamal hoee maedhanee aradhaas karae liv laae || |
| When the people of the world are suffering in pain, they call upon the Lord in loving prayer. |

| ਦੁਖੀ ਦੁਨੀ ਸਹੇੜੀਐ ਜਾਇ ਤ ਲਗਹਿ ਦੁਖ ॥ |
| dhukhee dhunee sehaerreeai jaae th lagehi dhukh || |
| Worldly possessions are obtained by pain and suffering; when they are gone, they leave pain and suffering. |
|
| ਅੰਤਰਿ ਅਗਿਆਨੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਭਰਮੁ ਹੈ ਗੁਰ ਗਿਆਨਿ ਗਵਾਈ ॥ |
| anthar agiaan dhukh bharam hai gur giaan gavaaee || |
| Deep within, there is ignorance, suffering and doubt; through the spiritual wisdom of the Guru, they are eradicated. |

| ਤਾਪ ਸੰਤਾਪ ਮਿਟੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਾਹੁੜਿ ਕਾਲੁ ਨ ਖਾਇ ॥੨॥੧੧॥ |
| thaap santhaap mittae naanak baahurr kaal n khaae ||2||11|| |
| Sorrow and suffering shall be erased, O Nanak, and you shall never again be devoured by death. ||2||11|| |

| ਆਵਤ ਜਾਤ ਰਹੇ ਸ੍ਰਮ ਨਾਸੇ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਿ ॥ |
| aavath jaath rehae sram naasae simarath saadhhoo sang || |
| One's comings and goings in reincarnation cease, and suffering is dispelled, meditating in remembrance in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. |

| ਗੁਣ ਰਮੰਤ ਦੂਖ ਨਾਸਹਿ ਰਿਦ ਭਇਅੰਤ ਸਾਂਤਿ ॥੩॥ |
| gun ramanth dhookh naasehi ridh bhaeianth saanth ||3|| |
| Uttering His Glorious Praises, suffering is eradicated, and the heart becomes tranquil and calm. ||3|| |
|
| ਦੀਨ ਦਰਦ ਨਿਵਾਰਿ ਤਾਰਨ ॥ |
| dheen dharadh nivaar thaaran || |
| You are the Deliverer, the Destroyer of the sufferings of the meek and the poor. |
|
| ਬਿਨਸੈ ਮੋਹੁ ਭਰਮੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਪੀਰੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| binasai mohu bharam dhukh peerai ||1|| rehaao || |
| He is rid of emotional attachment, doubt, pain and suffering. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਸਭਿ ਪਵਹੁ ਸਰਨਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਕੀ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਦੁਖ ਦਾਗਰੁ ॥੧੪॥ |
| sabh pavahu saran sathiguroo kee binasai dhukh dhaagar ||14|| |
| Let everyone seek the Sanctuary of the True Guru; let the black spot of pain, the scar of suffering, be erased. ||14|| |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮਿਲੈ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ਦੂਖ ਪਰਾਛਤ ਕਾਲ ਨਸੇ ॥੪॥੧੬॥ |
| naanak sathigur milai milaaeiaa dhookh paraashhath kaal nasae ||4||16|| |
| O Nanak, united in union with the True Guru, suffering, sin and death run away. ||4||16|| |

| The suffering of millions of incarnations is gone; |

| ਦੂਖ ਦਰਦ ਭ੍ਰਮ ਬਿਨਸੇ ਝੂਠੇ ॥੧॥ |
| dhookh dharadh bhram binasae jhoothae ||1|| |
| I am rid of pain, suffering, doubt and fraud. ||1|| |

| ਕਲਿ ਕਲੇਸ ਲੋਭ ਮੋਹ ਬਿਨਸਿ ਜਾਇ ਅਹੰ ਤਾਪ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| kal kalaes lobh moh binas jaae ahan thaap ||1|| rehaao || |
| Conflict, suffering, greed and emotional attachment shall be dispelled, and the fever of egotism shall be relieved. ||1||Pause|| |
|
| ਇਸ ਨੋ ਵਿਆਪੈ ਸੋਗ ਸੰਤਾਪੁ ॥ |
| eis no viaapai sog santhaap || |
| It is afflicted by sorrow and suffering. |
|
| ਮਨਮੁਖ ਕਉ ਦੁਖੁ ਦਰਦੁ ਵਿਆਪਸਿ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥ |
| manamukh ko dhukh dharadh viaapas manamukh dhukh n jaaee || |
| Pain and suffering afflict the self-willed manmukh. The pains of the self-willed manmukh shall never depart. |

| ਸਰਬ ਰਖ੍ਯ੍ਯਾ ਗੁਰ ਦਯਾਲਹ ਭੈ ਦੂਖ ਬਿਨਾਸਨਹ ॥ |
| sarab rakhyaa gur dhayaaleh bhai dhookh binaasaneh || |
| The Merciful Guru has protected everything, and destroyed my fear and suffering. |
