ਨਾਮ ਬਿਹੂਣ ਬਿਖਮਤਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਹੰਤਿ ਜੋਨਿ ਬਾਸਰੋ ਰੈਣੀ ॥੮॥ |
naam bihoon bikhamathaa naanak behanth jon baasaro rainee ||8|| |
Without the Naam, the Name of the Lord, O Nanak, there is misery and suffering. The mortal wanders in reincarnation day and night. ||8|| |

ਬ੍ਯ੍ਯਾਧਿ ਉਪਾੜਣ ਸੰਤੰ ॥ |
byaadhh oupaarran santhan || |
Just so, the Saints remove suffering; |

ਅਜੁ ਨ ਸੁਤੀ ਕੰਤ ਸਿਉ ਅੰਗੁ ਮੁੜੇ ਮੁੜਿ ਜਾਇ ॥ |
aj n suthee kanth sio ang murrae murr jaae || |
This night, I did not sleep with my Husband Lord, and now my body is suffering in pain. |

ਬਿਰਹਾ ਬਿਰਹਾ ਆਖੀਐ ਬਿਰਹਾ ਤੂ ਸੁਲਤਾਨੁ ॥ |
birehaa birehaa aakheeai birehaa thoo sulathaan || |
Many talk of the pain and suffering of separation; O pain, you are the ruler of all. |

ਫਰੀਦਾ ਇਹੁ ਤਨੁ ਭਉਕਣਾ ਨਿਤ ਨਿਤ ਦੁਖੀਐ ਕਉਣੁ ॥ |
fareedhaa eihu than bhoukanaa nith nith dhukheeai koun || |
Fareed, this body is always barking. Who can stand this constant suffering? |

ਖਾਨ ਪਾਨ ਸੋਧੇ ਸੁਖ ਭੁੰਚਤ ਸੰਕਟ ਕਾਟਿ ਬਿਪਤਿ ਹਰੀ ॥ |
khaan paan sodhhae sukh bhunchath sankatt kaatt bipath haree || |
He eats and drinks, and enjoys pleasures; his pains are taken away, and his suffering is gone. |

ਕਲਿਪ ਤਰੁ ਰੋਗ ਬਿਦਾਰੁ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਤਾਪ ਨਿਵਾਰੁ ਆਤਮਾ ਤ੍ਰਿਬਿਧਿ ਤੇਰੈ ਏਕ ਲਿਵ ਤਾਰ ॥ |
kalip thar rog bidhaar sansaar thaap nivaar aathamaa thribidhh thaerai eaek liv thaar || |
Like the Elyisan Tree, You cure all illnesses and take away the sufferings of the world. The three-phased soul is lovingly attuned to You alone. |

ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਸੰਸਾਰਹ ਖੋਵੈ ॥ |
sadhaa sukh man vasai dhukh sansaareh khovai || |
Your mind is filled with peace forever; You banish the sufferings of the world. |

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਨਾਮੁ ਏਕ ਲਿਵ ਮਨਿ ਜਪੈ ਦ੍ਰਿੜ੍ਹ੍ਹੁ ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਜਨ ਦੁਖ ਪਾਪੁ ਕਹੁ ਕਤ ਹੋਵੈ ਜੀਉ ॥ |
sathigur naam eaek liv man japai dhrirrha thinh jan dhukh paap kahu kath hovai jeeo || |
Tell me, how can sin and suffering cling to that humble being who chants the Naam, given by the Guru, with single-minded love and firm faith? |

ਗੁਰੁ ਪਰਮੇਸਰੁ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਭੈ ਭੰਜਨੁ ਦੁਖ ਲਥੁ ॥੩॥ |
gur paramaesar saeviaa bhai bhanjan dhukh lathh ||3|| |
I serve the Guru, the Transcendent Lord, the Dispeller of fear; my suffering has been taken away. ||3|| |

ਜਾਲਣ ਗੋਰਾਂ ਨਾਲਿ ਉਲਾਮੇ ਜੀਅ ਸਹੇ ॥੮॥੨॥ |
jaalan goraan naal oulaamae jeea sehae ||8||2|| |
Some have been cremated, and some lie in their graves; their souls are suffering rebukes. ||8||2|| |

ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਹੋਇ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲੁ ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਦੂਖੁ ਜਾਇ ॥ |
jis no hoe kirapaal this kaa dhookh jaae || |
One unto whom You are Merciful, has his sufferings depart. |

ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦਾਸ ਕਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਨ ਖਵਿ ਸਕਹਿ ਫੜਿ ਜੋਨੀ ਜੁਤੇ ॥ |
prabh dhaas kaa dhukh n khav sakehi farr jonee juthae || |
God will not endure the sufferings of His slaves, but catching the slanderers, He binds them to the cycle of reincarnation. |

ਆਇਓ ਸਰਣਿ ਦੀਨ ਦੁਖ ਭੰਜਨ ਚਿਤਵਉ ਤੁਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਰੀ ਓਰਿ ॥ |
aaeiou saran dheen dhukh bhanjan chithavo thumharee our || |
I have come to Your Sanctuary, O Destroyer of the suffering of the innocent; I keep my consciousness focused on You. |
