| mai aasaa rakhee chith mehi maeraa sabho dhukh gavaae jeeo || |
| Within my mind, I place my hopes in You; please, take my pain and suffering away! |

| ਚੰਦੋ ਦੀਪਾਇਆ ਦਾਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਅੰਧੇਰਾ ਉਠਿ ਗਇਆ ॥ |
| chandho dheepaaeiaa dhaan har kai dhukh andhhaeraa outh gaeiaa || |
| The moon glows, by the Lord's gift, and the darkness of suffering is taken away. |

| ਦੂਖੀ ਭਰਿ ਆਇਆ ਜਗਤੁ ਸਬਾਇਆ ਕਉਣੁ ਜਾਣੈ ਬਿਧਿ ਮੇਰੀਆ ॥ |
| dhookhee bhar aaeiaa jagath sabaaeiaa koun jaanai bidhh maereeaa || |
| The whole world is overflowing with pain and suffering; who can know the state of my inner self? |

| ਹਰਿ ਆਰਾਧੇ ਜਮ ਪੰਥੁ ਸਾਧੇ ਦੂਖੁ ਨ ਵਿਆਪੈ ਕੋਈ ॥ |
| har aaraadhhae jam panthh saadhhae dhookh n viaapai koee || |
| Worshipping the Lord in adoration, the Path of Death is overcome, and no pain or suffering will afflict you. |

| ਸੰਤ ਸਜਨ ਸੁਖਿ ਮਾਣਹਿ ਰਲੀਆ ਦੂਖ ਦਰਦ ਭ੍ਰਮ ਨਾਸੀ ॥ |
| santh sajan sukh maanehi raleeaa dhookh dharadh bhram naasee || |
| The Saints and friends enjoy peace and pleasure; their pain, suffering and doubts are dispelled. |

| ਜਾਂ ਸੁਖੁ ਤਾ ਸਹੁ ਰਾਵਿਓ ਦੁਖਿ ਭੀ ਸੰਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਲਿਓਇ ॥ |
| jaan sukh thaa sahu raaviou dhukh bhee sanmhaalioue || |
| When there is peace and pleasure, that is the time to remember your Husband Lord. In times of suffering and pain, remember Him then as well. |

| ਦੁਖੀਆ ਦਰਦਵੰਦੁ ਦਰਿ ਆਇਆ ॥ |
| dhukheeaa dharadhavandh dhar aaeiaa || |
| Suffering in pain, I have come to Your Door, O Compassionate Lord. |
|
| ਗੁਰਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਕਾਟਿਆ ਦੀਨੋ ਦਾਨੁ ॥ |
| gur dhukh kaattiaa dheeno dhaan || |
| The Guru relieved my sufferings, and blessed me with the gift. |
|
| ਤਾਪ ਪਾਪ ਸੰਤਾਪ ਬਿਨਾਸੇ ॥ |
| thaap paap santhaap binaasae || |
| Sufferings, sins and afflictions have been dispelled. |
|
| ਤਾਪ ਪਾਪ ਤੇ ਰਾਖੇ ਆਪ ॥ |
| thaap paap thae raakhae aap || |
| He Himself protects me from suffering and sin. |
|
| ਮਿਟੀ ਉਪਾਧਿ ਭਇਆ ਸੁਖੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਜਾਣੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| mittee oupaadhh bhaeiaa sukh saachaa antharajaamee simariaa jaan ||1|| rehaao || |
| Suffering is eradicated, and true peace has come, meditating on the Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਦੂਖ ਦਰਦ ਸਗਲਾ ਮਿਟਿ ਗਇਆ ॥ |
| man than rav rehiaa har preetham dhookh dharadh sagalaa mitt gaeiaa || |
| The Lord, my Beloved, is pervading and permeating my mind and body; all my pains and sufferings are dispelled. |

| ਤਹ ਰੋਗ ਸੋਗ ਨ ਦੂਖੁ ਬਿਆਪੈ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣੁ ਨ ਤਾਹਾ ॥ |
| theh rog sog n dhookh biaapai janam maran n thaahaa || |
| Disease, sorrow and suffering do not afflict anyone there; there is no birth or death there. |

| ਦੁਖ ਵਿਚਿ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਵਣੀ ਦੁਖੁ ਵਰਤੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਆਗੈ ॥ |
| dhukh vich kaar kamaavanee dhukh varathai dhukh aagai || |
| Suffering in pain, he does his deeds; he is immersed in pain, and he shall suffer in pain hereafter. |

| ਦੂਖੁ ਦਰਦੁ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਤਾ ਕਾ ਭਾਗੈ ॥ |
| dhookh dharadh bhram thaa kaa bhaagai || |
| his pains, sufferings and doubts run away. |
|
| ਕਲਿ ਕਲੇਸ ਮਿਟੇ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਇ ॥ |
| kal kalaes mittae har naae || |
| Suffering and troubles are eradicated by the Lord's Name. |
|
| ਜਾਸੁ ਜਪਤ ਭੈ ਅਪਦਾ ਟਰੀ ॥੪॥੧॥੫॥ |
| jaas japath bhai apadhaa ttaree ||4||1||5|| |
| meditating on Him, fear and suffering are dispelled. ||4||1||5|| |

| ਬੂਡਤ ਦੁਖ ਮਹਿ ਕਾਢਿ ਲਇਆ ॥੩॥ |
| booddath dhukh mehi kaadt laeiaa ||3|| |
| He lifted me up and pulled me out, when I was suffering in pain. ||3|| |

| ਮਿਟਾਨੇ ਸਭਿ ਕਲਿ ਕਲੇਸ ॥ |
| mittaanae sabh kal kalaes || |
| All my troubles and sufferings have been taken away; |
|
| ਖੇਦੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਓ ਨਹ ਫੁਨਿ ਰੋਜ ॥ |
| khaedh n paaeiou neh fun roj || |
| I shall never again have to endure suffering or grief. |
|
| ਗਣਤ ਗਣੀਐ ਸਹਸਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਜੀਐ ॥ |
| ganath ganeeai sehasaa dhukh jeeai || |
| Making his calculations, cynicism and suffering afflict his soul. |

| ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨੁ ਦੂਖੁ ਸਹੀਜੈ ॥੨॥ |
| raam naam bin dhookh seheejai ||2|| |
| Without the Lord's Name, they endure suffering and pain. ||2|| |

| ਹਰਿ ਨਾਲਿ ਰਹੁ ਤੂ ਮੰਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਦੂਖ ਸਭਿ ਵਿਸਾਰਣਾ ॥ |
| har naal rahu thoo mann maerae dhookh sabh visaaranaa || |
| Remain always with the Lord, O my mind, and all sufferings will be forgotten. |

| ਹਰਿ ਗਾਉ ਮੰਗਲੁ ਨਿਤ ਸਖੀਏ ਸੋਗੁ ਦੂਖੁ ਨ ਵਿਆਪਏ ॥ |
| har gaao mangal nith sakheeeae sog dhookh n viaapeae || |
| Sing continually the songs of joy to welcome the Lord, O my companions, and sorrow and suffering will not afflict you. |

| ਦੂਖ ਰੋਗ ਸੰਤਾਪ ਉਤਰੇ ਸੁਣੀ ਸਚੀ ਬਾਣੀ ॥ |
| dhookh rog santhaap outharae sunee sachee baanee || |
| Pain, illness and suffering have departed, listening to the True Bani. |

| ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਸਭਿ ਦੋਖ ਬਿਨਾਸਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪੀਐ ਗੁਰ ਮੰਤਨ ਕੈ ॥ |
| kilavikh sabh dhokh binaasan har naam japeeai gur manthan kai || |
| All sins and sufferings are erased chanting the Lord's Name, under Guru's Instructions. |

| ਚਰਣ ਬਿਰਾਜਿਤ ਸਭ ਊਪਰੇ ਮਿਟਿਆ ਸਗਲ ਕਲੇਸੁ ਜੀਉ ॥ |
| charan biraajith sabh ooparae mittiaa sagal kalaes jeeo || |
| His feet are exalted above all. They eradicate all suffering. |

| ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਦੁਖ ਕਾ ਖੇਤੁ ਹੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਬੀਜੇ ਦੁਖੁ ਖਾਇ ॥ |
| manamukh dhukh kaa khaeth hai dhukh beejae dhukh khaae || |
| The self-willed manmukh is the field of sorrow and suffering. He plains sorrow, and eats sorrow. |

| ਨਾ ਸਤਿ ਦੁਖੀਆ ਨਾ ਸਤਿ ਸੁਖੀਆ ਨਾ ਸਤਿ ਪਾਣੀ ਜੰਤ ਫਿਰਹਿ ॥ |
| naa sath dhukheeaa naa sath sukheeaa naa sath paanee janth firehi || |
| There is no Truth in suffering, there is no Truth in comfort. There is no Truth in wandering like animals through the water. |

| ਨਾ ਸਤਿ ਰੁਖੀ ਬਿਰਖੀ ਪਥਰ ਆਪੁ ਤਛਾਵਹਿ ਦੁਖ ਸਹਹਿ ॥ |
| naa sath rukhee birakhee pathhar aap thashhaavehi dhukh sehehi || |
| There is no Truth in trees, plants or stones, in mutilating oneself or suffering in pain. |
|
| ਭਿਖਿਆ ਭੋਜਨੁ ਕਰੈ ਸੰਤਾਪੁ ॥ |
| bhikhiaa bhojan karai santhaap || |
| He begs for suffering as his food. |
|
| ਨਾਨਕ ਦੁਖੀਆ ਸਭੁ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥ |
| naanak dhukheeaa sabh sansaar || |
| O Nanak, the whole world is suffering. |
|
| ਮਨ ਤਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਵਸੁ ਦੂਖਾ ਨਾਸੁ ਹੋਇ ॥ |
| man than anthar vas dhookhaa naas hoe || |
| Please, dwell within my mind and body, and end my sufferings. |

| ਤੁਧਹੁ ਭੁਲੇ ਸਿ ਜਮਿ ਜਮਿ ਮਰਦੇ ਤਿਨ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਚੁਕਨਿ ਹਾਵੇ ॥੧॥ |
| thudhhahu bhulae s jam jam maradhae thin kadhae n chukan haavae ||1|| |
| Those who forget You are born only to die and be reincarnated again; their sufferings will never end. ||1|| |
|
| ਸੂਖ ਸਹਜ ਆਨਦੁ ਘਣਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜਪਤਿਆ ਦੁਖੁ ਜਾਇ ॥ |
| sookh sehaj aanadh ghanaa prabh japathiaa dhukh jaae || |
| Celestial peace and absolute bliss come when one meditates on God - suffering is dispelled. |

| ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦਇਆਲ ਦੁਖ ਦਰਦ ਬਿਦਾਰਣ ॥ |
| prabh dhaeiaal dhukh dharadh bidhaaran || |
| The Merciful Lord God is the Destroyer of sorrow and suffering. |
|
| ਤਾ ਕੋ ਦੂਖੁ ਹਰਿਓ ਕਰੁਣਾ ਮੈ ਅਪਨੀ ਪੈਜ ਬਢਾਈ ॥੧॥ |
| thaa ko dhookh hariou karunaa mai apanee paij badtaaee ||1|| |
| The Lord, the embodiment of mercy, removed her suffering; thus His own glory was increased. ||1|| |
|
| ਦੂਖ ਦਰਦ ਕਲੇਸ ਬਿਨਸਹਿ ਜਿਸੁ ਬਸੈ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ॥ |
| dhookh dharadh kalaes binasehi jis basai man maahi || |
| Pain, suffering and troubles are eradicated, when the Lord abides in the mind. |

| ਤੂ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਿ ਦੇਖਹਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਦਰਦੁ ਸਰੀਰਹੁ ਜਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੫॥ |
| thoo dhaeiaal dhaeiaa kar dhaekhehi dhukh dharadh sareerahu jaaee hae ||5|| |
| When You, O Merciful Lord, look with Your kindness, then pain and suffering leave the body. ||5|| |
|
| ਇਕਿ ਦਰਿ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਦਰਦੁ ਵਞਾਏ ॥ |
| eik dhar saevehi dharadh vanjaaeae || |
| Some serve at Your Door, and their sufferings are dispelled. |
|
| ਸਭਿ ਦੁਖ ਮੇਟੇ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਪਾਏ ॥ |
| sabh dhukh maettae maarag paaeae || |
| All suffering is eradicated, and one is placed on the Path. |
|
| ਸੰਸਾ ਦੂਖ ਬਿਨਾਸਨੁ ਸੇਵਹੁ ਫਿਰਿ ਬਾਹੁੜਿ ਰੋਗੁ ਨ ਲਾਇਆ ॥੯॥ |
| sansaa dhookh binaasan saevahu fir baahurr rog n laaeiaa ||9|| |
| Serve the Eradicator of cynicism and suffering, and you shall never again be afflicted by the disease. ||9|| |
|
| ਪਰ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰਹਿ ਬਹੁ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਜਾਲੈ ਦੁਖੇ ਦੁਖਿ ਨਿਵਾਸੀ ਹੇ ॥੧੫॥ |
| par nindhaa karehi bahu chinthaa jaalai dhukhae dhukh nivaasee hae ||15|| |
| They slander others, and burn in great anxiety; they dwell in pain and suffering. ||15|| |
|
| ਸਭਿ ਕਿਲਬਿਖ ਕਾਟੇ ਦੂਖ ਸਬਾਏ ॥ |
| sabh kilabikh kaattae dhookh sabaaeae || |
| He is rid of all sins, and all suffering. |
|
| ਕਲਿ ਕਲੇਸ ਮਿਟਾਏ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਗਹ ਦੇਵੈ ਮਾਨਾਂ ਹੇ ॥੪॥ |
| kal kalaes mittaaeae sathigur har dharageh dhaevai maanaan hae ||4|| |
| The True Guru eradicates sorrow and suffering, and bestows honor in the Court of the Lord. ||4|| |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਚਾਨਣੁ ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲੇ ਦੁਖ ਬਿਖੁ ਜਾਲੀ ਨਾਇ ॥੨॥ |
| naanak chaanan gur milae dhukh bikh jaalee naae ||2|| |
| O Nanak, receiving the Divine Light from the Guru, suffering and corruption are burnt away, through the Name. ||2|| |

| ਸੂਰੇ ਏਹਿ ਨ ਆਖੀਅਹਿ ਅਹੰਕਾਰਿ ਮਰਹਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਹਿ ॥ |
| soorae eaehi n aakheeahi ahankaar marehi dhukh paavehi || |
| They are not called heroes, who die of egotism, suffering in pain. |

| ਮਝ ਭਰਿ ਦੁਖ ਬਦੁਖ ॥ |
| majh bhar dhukh badhukh || |
| This ocean is filled up with pain and suffering. |
|
| ਕੰਤਾ ਤੂ ਸਉ ਸੇਜੜੀ ਮੈਡਾ ਹਭੋ ਦੁਖੁ ਉਲਾਹਿ ॥੨॥ |
| kanthaa thoo so saejarree maiddaa habho dhukh oulaahi ||2|| |
| O my Husband Lord, please sleep upon my bed, that all my sufferings may be gone. ||2|| |
