| Greed is a dog; falsehood is a filthy street-sweeper. Cheating is eating a rotting carcass. |

| ਏਹੁ ਮਨੋ ਮੂਰਖੁ ਲੋਭੀਆ ਲੋਭੇ ਲਗਾ ਲ+ਭਾਨੁ ॥ |
| eaehu mano moorakh lobheeaa lobhae lagaa luobhaan || |
| This foolish mind is greedy; through greed, it becomes even more attached to greed. |

| ਏਕੁ ਸੁਆਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਸੁਆਨੀ ਨਾਲਿ ॥ |
| eaek suaan dhue suaanee naal || |
| The dogs of greed are with me. |
|
| ਜਿਉ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਰਾਖੈ ਤਿਉ ਰਹੈ ਇਸੁ ਲੋਭੀ ਕਾ ਜੀਉ ਟਲ ਪਲੈ ॥੧॥ |
| jio saahib raakhai thio rehai eis lobhee kaa jeeo ttal palai ||1|| |
| As our Lord and Master keeps us, so do we exist. The soul of this greedy person is tossed this way and that. ||1|| |

| ਮਤਿ ਬੁਧਿ ਭਵੀ ਨ ਬੁਝਈ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਲੋਭ ਵਿਕਾਰੁ ॥ |
| math budhh bhavee n bujhee anthar lobh vikaar || |
| Their intellect and understanding are perverted; they just don't understand. They are filled with greed and corruption. |

| ਲੋਭੀ ਅਨ ਕਉ ਸੇਵਦੇ ਪੜਿ ਵੇਦਾ ਕਰੈ ਪੂਕਾਰ ॥ |
| lobhee an ko saevadhae parr vaedhaa karai pookaar || |
| The greedy people serve others, instead of the Lord, although they loudly announce their reading of scriptures. |

| ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਛੋਡਿ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਲੋਭਾਣੇ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਹਿ ਵਿਡਾਣੀ ॥ |
| anmrith shhodd bikhiaa lobhaanae saevaa karehi viddaanee || |
| Discarding the Ambrosial Nectar, they greedily grab the poison; they serve others, instead of the Lord. |

| ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਲੋਭੁ ਬਿਨਸਿਆ ਤਜਿਆ ਸਭੁ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ॥੨॥ |
| kaam krodhh lobh binasiaa thajiaa sabh abhimaan ||2|| |
| Sexual desire, anger and greed are eliminated, and all egotistical pride is abandoned. ||2|| |
|
| ਲੋਭੀ ਜੰਤੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਈ ਭਖੁ ਅਭਖੁ ਸਭ ਖਾਇ ॥ |
| lobhee janth n jaanee bhakh abhakh sabh khaae || |
| the greedy person, unaware, consumes everything, edible and non-edible alike. |

| ਪੂੰਜੀ ਸਾਚੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਨਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਤਿਲੁ ਨ ਤਮਾਇ ॥੬॥ |
| poonjee saachee gur milai naa this thil n thamaae ||6|| |
| With the Merchandise of Truth, they meet the Guru, who does not have a trace of greed. ||6|| |

| ਹਉਮੈ ਮਮਤਾ ਜਲਿ ਬਲਉ ਲੋਭੁ ਜਲਉ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ॥ |
| houmai mamathaa jal balo lobh jalo abhimaan || |
| May my egotism and possessiveness be burnt to ashes, and my greed and egotistical pride consigned to the fire. |

| ਧਨਿ ਜੋਬਨਿ ਜਗੁ ਠਗਿਆ ਲਬਿ ਲੋਭਿ ਅਹੰਕਾਰਿ ॥ |
| dhhan joban jag thagiaa lab lobh ahankaar || |
| The world is deceived and plundered by riches, youth, greed and egotism. |

| ਕਾਮਿ ਕਰੋਧਿ ਮੋਹਿ ਵਸਿ ਕੀਆ ਕਿਰਪਨ ਲੋਭਿ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥ |
| kaam karodhh mohi vas keeaa kirapan lobh piaar || |
| When you are under the power of sexual desire, anger and worldly attachment, or a greedy miser in love with your wealth; |

| ਪੁਤ੍ਰਿ ਕਲਤ੍ਰਿ ਮੋਹਿ ਲਪਟਿਆ ਵਣਜਾਰਿਆ ਮਿਤ੍ਰਾ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਲਹਰਿ ਲੋਭਾਨੁ ॥ |
| puthr kalathr mohi lapattiaa vanajaariaa mithraa anthar lehar lobhaan || |
| He is entangled in emotional attachment to his wife and sons, O my merchant friend, and deep within him, the waves of greed are rising up. |

| ਅੰਤਰਿ ਲਹਰਿ ਲੋਭਾਨੁ ਪਰਾਨੀ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਚਿਤਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ॥ |
| anthar lehar lobhaan paraanee so prabh chith n aavai || |
| The waves of greed are rising up within him, and he does not remember God. |

| ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਦਇਆਲ ਕਿਰਪਾਲ ਭੇਟਤ ਹਰੇ ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਲੋਭੁ ਮਾਰਿਆ ॥ |
| sathigur dhaeiaal kirapaal bhaettath harae kaam krodhh lobh maariaa || |
| Through the Kind and Compassionate True Guru, I have met the Lord; I have conquered sexual desire, anger and greed. |

| ਗੁਰ ਵਿਣੁ ਸਹਜੁ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਲੋਭੁ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਜਾਇ ॥ |

| Without the Guru, intuitive wisdom does not come, and the filth of greed does not depart from within. |

| ho balihaaree santhan thaerae jin kaam krodhh lobh peethaa jeeo ||3|| |
| I am a sacrifice to Your Saints, who have crushed their sexual desire, anger and greed. ||3|| |

| ਲੋਭੁ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਅਹੰਕਾਰਾ ॥ |
| lobh abhimaan bahuth ahankaaraa || |
| in greed, arrogance and excessive ego. |

| ਅੰਤਰਿ ਲੋਭੁ ਮਹਾ ਗੁਬਾਰਾ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਆਵਣ ਜਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ |
| anthar lobh mehaa gubaaraa fir fir aavan jaavaniaa ||7|| |
| Within is the terrible darkness of greed, and so they come and go in reincarnation, over and over again. ||7|| |

| ਕਾਮਿ ਕਰੋਧਿ ਨ ਮੋਹੀਐ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਲੋਭੁ ਸੁਆਨੁ ॥ |
| kaam karodhh n moheeai binasai lobh suaan || |
| Sexual desire and anger shall not seduce you, and the dog of greed shall depart. |

| ਫਲਗੁਣਿ ਨਿਤ ਸਲਾਹੀਐ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਤਿਲੁ ਨ ਤਮਾਇ ॥੧੩॥ |
| falagun nith salaaheeai jis no thil n thamaae ||13|| |
| In Phalgun, praise Him continually; He has not even an iota of greed. ||13|| |

| ਹਉਮੈ ਗਰਬੁ ਉਪਾਇ ਕੈ ਲੋਭੁ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਜੰਤਾ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ |
| houmai garab oupaae kai lobh anthar janthaa paaeiaa || |
| You created egotism and arrogant pride, and You placed greed within our beings. |
|
| ਪੜਿਆ ਮੂਰਖੁ ਆਖੀਐ ਜਿਸੁ ਲਬੁ ਲੋਭੁ ਅਹੰਕਾਰਾ ॥ |
| parriaa moorakh aakheeai jis lab lobh ahankaaraa || |
| That scholar who is full of greed, arrogant pride and egotism, is known to be a fool. |

| ਹੰਸੁ ਹੇਤੁ ਲੋਭੁ ਕੋਪੁ ਚਾਰੇ ਨਦੀਆ ਅਗਿ ॥ |
| hans haeth lobh kop chaarae nadheeaa ag || |
| Cruelty, material attachment, greed and anger are the four rivers of fire. |

| ਲਬਿ ਨ ਚਲਈ ਸਚਿ ਰਹੈ ਸੋ ਵਿਸਟੁ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥ |
| lab n chalee sach rehai so visatt paravaan || |
| That virtuous person who does not walk in the way of greed, and who abides in Truth, is accepted and famous. |

| ਪੂੰਜੀ ਪਾਪ ਲੋਭ ਕੀ ਕੀਤੁ ॥ |
| poonjee paap lobh kee keeth || |
| It gathers in the assets of sin and greed. |
|
| ਲਬੁ ਲੋਭੁ ਮੁਚੁ ਕੂੜੁ ਕਮਾਵਹਿ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਉਠਾਵਹਿ ਭਾਰੋ ॥ |
| lab lobh much koorr kamaavehi bahuth outhaavehi bhaaro || |
| You practice greed, avarice and great falsehood, and you carry such a heavy burden. |
|
| ਏਕਸੁ ਚਰਣੀ ਜੇ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਵਹਿ ਲਬਿ ਲੋਭਿ ਕੀ ਧਾਵਸਿਤਾ ॥੩॥ |
| eaekas charanee jae chith laavehi lab lobh kee dhhaavasithaa ||3|| |
| If you focus your consciousness on the Feet of the One Lord, what reason would you have to chase after greed? ||3|| |

| ਨਿਤ ਦਿਨਸੁ ਰਾਤਿ ਲਾਲਚੁ ਕਰੇ ਭਰਮੈ ਭਰਮਾਇਆ ॥ |
| nith dhinas raath laalach karae bharamai bharamaaeiaa || |
| Continuously, day and night, they are gripped by greed and deluded by doubt. |

| ਮੂਲੁ ਬਿਆਧੀ ਬਿਆਪਸਿ ਲੋਭਾ ॥੧॥ |
| mool biaadhhee biaapas lobhaa ||1|| |
| The source of this illness which torments us is greed. ||1|| |

| ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਲੋਭ ਮਦ ਖੋਏ ॥ |

| Sexual desire, anger, greed and ego are eradicated; |

| ਲੋਭੀ ਅਨਦੁ ਕਰੈ ਪੇਖਿ ਧਨਾ ॥ |

| As the greedy man rejoices upon beholding his wealth, |

| ਕਾਮਿ ਕ੍ਰੋਧਿ ਲੋਭਿ ਮੋਹਿ ਮਨੁ ਲੀਨੋ ਨਿਰਗੁਣ ਕੇ ਦਾਤਾਰੇ ॥ |
| kaam krodhh lobh mohi man leeno niragun kae dhaathaarae || |
| My mind is engrossed in sexual desire, anger, greed and attachment, O Giver to the unworthy. |

| ਤੀਨਿ ਭਵਨ ਕੀ ਲਖਮੀ ਜੋਰੀ ਬੂਝਤ ਨਾਹੀ ਲਹਰੇ ॥ |
| theen bhavan kee lakhamee joree boojhath naahee leharae || |
| People may accumulate the wealth of the three worlds, but the waves of greed are still not subdued. |

| ਕੋਈ ਜਿ ਮੂਰਖੁ ਲੋਭੀਆ ਮੂਲਿ ਨ ਸੁਣੀ ਕਹਿਆ ॥੨॥ |
| koee j moorakh lobheeaa mool n sunee kehiaa ||2|| |
| But he is foolish and greedy, and he never listens to what he is told. ||2|| |

| ਲੋਭ ਮੋਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਮਮਤਾ ਫੁਨਿ ਅਉ ਬਿਖਿਅਨ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ॥ਹਰਖ ਸੋਗ ਪਰਸੈ ਜਿਹ ਨਾਹਨਿ ਸੋ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਹੈ ਦੇਵਾ ॥੧॥ |
| lobh moh maaeiaa mamathaa fun ao bikhian kee saevaa || harakh sog parasai jih naahan so moorath hai dhaevaa ||1|| |
| Greed, emotional attachment to Maya, possessiveness, the service of evil, pleasure and pain - those who are not touched by these, are the very embodiment of the Divine Lord. ||1|| |

| ਉਸਤਤਿ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਏ ਸਮ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਲੋਭੁ ਮੋਹੁ ਫੁਨਿ ਤੈਸਾ ॥੨॥ |
| ousathath nindhaa eae sam jaa kai lobh mohu fun thaisaa ||2|| |
| Praise and slander are all the same to them, as are greed and attachment. ||2|| |

| ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਅਉਧ ਘਟੈ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਨੈ ਭਇਓ ਲੋਭ ਸੰਗਿ ਹਉਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| ahinis aoudhh ghattai nehee jaanai bhaeiou lobh sang houraa ||1|| rehaao || |
| Don't you know that your life is decreasing, day and night? Your life is made worthless with greed. ||1||Pause|| |

| I have seen the world being destroyed by greed and egotism. |

| ਮਨ ਕਰਹਲਾ ਤੂੰ ਮੀਤੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਪਾਖੰਡੁ ਲੋਭੁ ਤਜਾਇ ॥ |
| man karehalaa thoon meeth maeraa paakhandd lobh thajaae || |
| O camel-like mind, you are my friend; abandon hypocrisy and greed. |

| ਪਾਖੰਡਿ ਲੋਭੀ ਮਾਰੀਐ ਜਮ ਡੰਡੁ ਦੇਇ ਸਜਾਇ ॥੬॥ |
| paakhandd lobhee maareeai jam ddandd dhaee sajaae ||6|| |
| The hypocritical and the greedy are struck down; the Messenger of Death punishes them with his club. ||6|| |

| ਸਾਕਤ ਲੋਭੀ ਬੰਧੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੬॥ |
| saakath lobhee bandhh n paaeiaa ||6|| |
| The greedy, faithless cynic falls into entanglements. ||6|| |
|
| ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਲੋਭੁ ਮੋਹੁ ਤਜੋ ॥ |
| kaam krodhh lobh mohu thajo || |
| Abandon sexual desire, anger, greed and emotional attachment. |
|
| ਦੂਜੈ ਕਿਨੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਓ ਪਿਰਾ ਜੀਉ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਲੋਭਿ ਲੁਭਾਏ ॥ |
| dhoojai kinai sukh n paaeiou piraa jeeo bikhiaa lobh lubhaaeae || |
| In duality, no one has ever found peace, O my dear; you are greedy for corruption and greed. |

| ਬਿਖਿਆ ਲੋਭਿ ਲੁਭਾਏ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਏ ਓਹੁ ਕਿਉ ਕਰਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ॥ |
| bikhiaa lobh lubhaaeae bharam bhulaaeae ouhu kio kar sukh paaeae || |
| Greedy for corruption and greed, and deluded by doubt, how can anyone find peace? |

| ਕਾਲੁ ਕੰਟਕੁ ਲੋਭੁ ਮੋਹੁ ਨਾਸੈ ਜੀਅ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਬਸੈ ॥ |
| kaal kanttak lobh mohu naasai jeea jaa kai prabh basai || |
| The pains of death, greed and emotional attachment simply vanish, when God comes to dwell in the soul. |

| ਲਾਲਚ ਝੂਠ ਬਿਕਾਰ ਮੋਹ ਬਿਆਪਤ ਮੂੜੇ ਅੰਧ ॥ |

| Greed, falsehood, corruption and emotional attachment entangle the blind and the foolish. |

| The afflictions of greed, falsehood and corruption abide in this body. |

| ਲਾਲਚ ਝੂਠ ਬਿਕਾਰ ਮੋਹ ਇਆ ਸੰਪੈ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ॥ |

| Greed, falsehood, corruption and emotional attachment - these are what he collects within his mind. |
