| The separated ones meet, and by great good fortune, those suffering in separation are reunited once again. ||2|| |

| Without the Word of the Shabad, peace does not come. Without her Husband Lord, her suffering does not end. ||1|| |

| ਭਰਮੇ ਭੂਲਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਘਣੋ ਜਮੁ ਮਾਰਿ ਕਰੈ ਖੁਲਹਾਨੁ ॥ |
| bharamae bhoolaa dhukh ghano jam maar karai khulehaan || |
| They wander lost and confused, deceived by doubt, suffering in terrible pain. The Messenger of Death shall beat them to a pulp. |

| ਅੰਤਰਹੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਕਟੀਐ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥ |
| antharahu dhukh bhram katteeai sukh paraapath hoe || |
| Suffering and doubt are cut out from within, and peace is obtained. |

| ਮਿਤ੍ਰ ਘਣੇਰੇ ਕਰਿ ਥਕੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਕਾਟੈ ਕੋਇ ॥ |
| mithr ghanaerae kar thhakee maeraa dhukh kaattai koe || |
| I have grown weary of making so many friends, hoping that someone might be able to end my suffering. |

| ਮਿਲਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਦੁਖੁ ਕਟਿਆ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਾ ਹੋਇ ॥ |
| mil preetham dhukh kattiaa sabadh milaavaa hoe || |
| Meeting with my Beloved, my suffering has ended; I have attained Union with the Word of the Shabad. |

| ਜਗਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਮੈਲੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਮਲੁ ਲਾਗੀ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ॥ |
| jag houmai mail dhukh paaeiaa mal laagee dhoojai bhaae || |
| The world is polluted with the filth of egotism, suffering in pain. This filth sticks to them because of their love of duality. |

| ਦੂਖੁ ਸੰਤਾਪੁ ਨ ਲਗਈ ਜਿਸੁ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਧਾਰੁ ॥ |
| dhookh santhaap n lagee jis har kaa naam adhhaar || |
| Suffering and sorrow do not touch those who have the Support of the Name of the Lord. |

| ਜਿਸੁ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ਘਣਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਦਰਦੁ ਨ ਮੂਲੇ ਹੋਇ ॥ |
| jis simarath sukh hoe ghanaa dhukh dharadh n moolae hoe || |
| Remembering Him in meditation, a profound peace is obtained. Pain and suffering will not touch you at all. |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਕਉ ਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟਿਆ ਬਿਨਸੇ ਸਗਲ ਸੰਤਾਪ ॥੪॥੮॥੭੮॥ |
| naanak ko gur bhaettiaa binasae sagal santhaap ||4||8||78|| |
| Nanak has met the Guru; all his sufferings have come to an end. ||4||8||78|| |

| ਇਕਸੁ ਸੇਤੀ ਰਤਿਆ ਨ ਹੋਵੀ ਸੋਗ ਸੰਤਾਪੁ ॥੩॥ |

| Attuned to the Love of the One, there is no sorrow or suffering. ||3|| |

| ਮਿਲਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਭੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਗਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਵਸਿਆ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥ |
| mil sathigur sabh dhukh gaeiaa har sukh vasiaa man aae || |
| Meeting the True Guru, all my sufferings have ended, and the Peace of the Lord has come to dwell within my mind. |

| ਦੀਨ ਦਰਦ ਦੁਖ ਭੰਜਨਾ ਸੇਵਕ ਕੈ ਸਤ ਭਾਇ ॥ |
| dheen dharadh dhukh bhanjanaa saevak kai sath bhaae || |
| He is the Destroyer of the pain and suffering of the meek. He bears True Love for His servants. |

| ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਸਦਾ ਰਹੁ ਦੂਖੁ ਨ ਵਿਆਪੈ ਕੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |

| Remain in God's Sanctuary forever, and no suffering shall afflict you. ||1||Pause|| |

| Enjoy the fruits of your mind's desires; all suffering and sorrow shall depart. ||Pause|| |

| ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਚਜੁ ਅਚਾਰੁ ਸਿਖੁ ਤੁਧੁ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਲਗੈ ਦੁਖੁ ॥੩॥ |
| gur mil chaj achaar sikh thudhh kadhae n lagai dhukh ||3|| |
| Meeting with the Guru, be a sincere student of proper conduct, and suffering shall never touch you. ||3|| |

| ਦੁਖੁ ਕਲੇਸੁ ਨ ਭਉ ਬਿਆਪੈ ਗੁਰ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੁ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਹੋਇ ॥ |
| dhukh kalaes n bho biaapai gur manthra hiradhai hoe || |
| Suffering, agony and fear do not cling to one whose heart is filled with the GurMantra. |

| ਪਉ ਸੰਤ ਸਰਣੀ ਲਾਗੁ ਚਰਣੀ ਮਿਟੈ ਦੂਖੁ ਅੰਧਾਰੁ ॥੨॥ |
| po santh saranee laag charanee mittai dhookh andhhaar ||2|| |
| Seek the Sanctuary of the Saints, and fall at their feet; your suffering and darkness shall be removed. ||2|| |
|
| ਸੁਖ ਕਉ ਮਾਗੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਦੁਖੁ ਨ ਮਾਗੈ ਕੋਇ ॥ |
| sukh ko maagai sabh ko dhukh n maagai koe || |
| Everyone begs for happiness; no one asks for suffering. |

| ਸੁਖੈ ਕਉ ਦੁਖੁ ਅਗਲਾ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਬੂਝ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥ |
| sukhai ko dhukh agalaa manamukh boojh n hoe || |
| But in the wake of happiness, there comes great suffering. The self-willed manmukhs do not understand this. |

| ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ਤੂ ਜਮੁ ਡਰਪੈ ਦੁਖ ਭਾਗੁ ॥ |
| har jap naam dhhiaae thoo jam ddarapai dhukh bhaag || |
| Chant and meditate on the Naam, the Name of the Lord; death will be afraid of you, and suffering shall depart. |

| ਇਕੁ ਤਿਲੁ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਵਿਸਰੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਲਾਗੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਜਾਇ ॥ |
| eik thil piaaraa visarai dhukh laagai sukh jaae || |
| If I forget my Beloved, even for an instant, suffering overtakes me and peace departs. |

| ਬਿਨੁ ਜਲ ਘੜੀ ਨ ਜੀਵਈ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਜਾਣੈ ਅਭ ਪੀਰ ॥੨॥ |
| bin jal gharree n jeevee prabh jaanai abh peer ||2|| |
| Without water, she cannot live, even for an instant. God knows the suffering of her mind. ||2|| |
|
| ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਭਾਣੈ ਜੋ ਚਲੈ ਸਭਿ ਦੁਖ ਨਿਵਾਰਣਹਾਰਿ ॥ |
| gur kai bhaanai jo chalai sabh dhukh nivaaranehaar || |
| But she who walks in harmony with the Guru's Will, shall be spared all pain and suffering. |

| ਤੇ ਦਿਨ ਸੰਮਲੁ ਕਸਟ ਮਹਾ ਦੁਖ ਅਬ ਚਿਤੁ ਅਧਿਕ ਪਸਾਰਿਆ ॥ |
| thae dhin sanmal kasatt mehaa dhukh ab chith adhhik pasaariaa || |
| Remember the terrible pain and suffering of those days, now that you have spread out the net of your consciousness far and wide. |

| ਦੁਖਿ ਸੁਖਿ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਤੁਧੁ ਧਿਆਈ ॥ |
| dhukh sukh piaarae thudhh dhhiaaee || |
| In suffering and in comfort, I meditate on You, O Beloved. |

| ਅਨਦੁ ਭਇਆ ਨਿਕਸੀ ਸਭ ਪੀਰਾ ਸਗਲ ਬਿਨਾਸੇ ਦਰਦਾ ਜੀਉ ॥੨॥ |
| anadh bhaeiaa nikasee sabh peeraa sagal binaasae dharadhaa jeeo ||2|| |
| I am filled with bliss, and all my pains have been taken away. All my suffering has been dispelled. ||2|| |

| ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਤਿਸੁ ਸਦਾ ਧਿਆਈ ॥ |
| gur parasaadh this sadhaa dhhiaaee || |
| The fear of birth and death has been dispelled; emotional attachment, sorrow and suffering have been erased. ||3|| |

| ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਭੈ ਕਾਟੇ ਮੋਹਾ ਬਿਨਸੇ ਸੋਗ ਸੰਤਾਪੇ ਜੀਉ ॥੩॥ |
| janam maran bhai kaattae mohaa binasae sog santhaapae jeeo ||3|| |
| The fear of birth and death has been dispelled; emotional attachment, sorrow and suffering have been erased. ||3|| |

| ਉਤਰਿ ਗਏ ਸਭ ਸੋਗ ਸੰਤਾਪੇ ॥ |
| outhar geae sabh sog santhaapae || |
| He drives out all sorrow and suffering. |

| ਕਲਿ ਕਲੇਸ ਸਭ ਦੂਰਿ ਪਇਆਣੇ ॥ |
| kal kalaes sabh dhoor paeiaanae || |
| All my troubles and sufferings have run away. |

| ਗਇਆ ਕਲੇਸੁ ਭਇਆ ਸੁਖੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਲੀ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥ |
| gaeiaa kalaes bhaeiaa sukh saachaa har har naam samaalee jeeo ||1|| |
| Suffering has been dispelled, and true happiness has dawned, as we meditate on the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. ||1|| |

| ਹਲਤੁ ਪਲਤੁ ਤਿਨੀ ਦੋਵੈ ਗਵਾਏ ਦੁਖੇ ਦੁਖਿ ਵਿਹਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥ |
| halath palath thinee dhovai gavaaeae dhukhae dhukh vihaavaniaa ||5|| |
| They forfeit both this world and the next, and they pass their lives suffering in pain and misery. ||5|| |

| ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਪੜਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਏਕੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਬੂਝੇ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ |
| thrai gun parrehi har eaek n jaanehi bin boojhae dhukh paavaniaa ||7|| |
| They read of the three qualities, but they do not know the One Lord. Without understanding, they obtain only pain and suffering. ||7|| |

| ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਸਹਸਾ ਦੂਖੁ ਚੁਕਾਏ ॥ |
| gur sabadhee sehasaa dhookh chukaaeae || |
| Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, skepticism and suffering are dispelled. |

| ਤਿਨ ਕੇ ਪਾਪ ਦੋਖ ਸਭਿ ਬਿਨਸੇ ਜੋ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਰਾਮ ਰਸੁ ਖਾਤੇ ॥੨॥ |
| thin kae paap dhokh sabh binasae jo guramath raam ras khaathae ||2|| |
| Those who partake of the Lord's sublime essence, through the Guru's Teachings - their sins and sufferings are all eliminated. ||2|| |

| Pain, suffering and the Messenger of Death do not even approach that one, |

| - pain, suffering and doubt run away from them. ||1|| |

| ਹਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਸਭਿ ਮਿਟਹਿ ਕਲੇਸ ॥ |
| har simarath sabh mittehi kalaes || |
| Meditating in remembrance on the Lord, all suffering is eradicated. |

| ਦੂਖ ਦਰਦ ਰੋਗ ਸਗਲ ਬਿਦਾਰਿਆ ॥੨॥ |
| dhookh dharadh rog sagal bidhaariaa ||2|| |
| all pain, suffering and disease are taken away. ||2|| |
|
| ਸਗਲ ਦੂਖ ਕਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਨਾਸੁ ॥੨॥ |
| sagal dhookh kaa hoeiaa naas ||2|| |
| all suffering comes to an end. ||2|| |

| ਪਾਪੀ ਕਉ ਲਾਗਾ ਸੰਤਾਪੁ ॥੧॥ |

| The sinner is now suffering in despair. ||1|| |

| anik janam bahu jonee bhramiaa bahur bahur dhukh paaeiaa || |
| Wandering around through countless incarnations, I endured pain and suffering in so many lives, over and over again. |

| ਮਾਨਿ ਆਗਿਆ ਸਰਬ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਏ ਦੂਖਹ ਠਾਉ ਗਵਾਇਓ ॥ |

| Accepting the Command of the Lord's Will, I have found total peace; the home of suffering has been destroyed. |

| Whatever God does, accept that with pleasure; in comfort and in suffering, meditate on Him. ||1|| |
