| Mother, father, Maya and the body are diseased; those united with their relatives are diseased. ||3|| |

| dhubidhhaa rog s adhhik vaddaeraa maaeiaa kaa muhathaaj bhaeiaa ||8|| |
| The disease of duality is so very deadly; it causes dependence on Maya. ||8|| |

| ਰਾਜੁ ਮਾਲੁ ਝੂਠੀ ਸਭ ਮਾਇਆ ॥ |
| raaj maal jhoothee sabh maaeiaa || |
| Power, property and all Maya is false. |

| ਕੋਟਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਸੇਵਕਾਇ ॥ |
| kott maaeiaa jaa kai saevakaae || |
| Millions of Mayas are His maid-servants. |
|
| ਨਾਉ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਨਾਉ ਮੇਰੇ ਪੂੰਜੀ ॥ |
| naao maerae maaeiaa naao maerae poonjee || |
| The Name is Maya and wealth for me; the Name is my capital. |

| ਮਾਇਆ ਮਹਿ ਜਿਸੁ ਰਖੈ ਉਦਾਸੁ ॥ |
| maaeiaa mehi jis rakhai oudhaas || |
| One whom the Lord keeps detached from Maya |

| ਜਲ ਮਹਿ ਮੀਨ ਮਾਇਆ ਕੇ ਬੇਧੇ ॥ |
| jal mehi meen maaeiaa kae baedhhae || |
| The fish in the water is attached to Maya. |
|
| ਦੀਪਕ ਪਤੰਗ ਮਾਇਆ ਕੇ ਛੇਦੇ ॥ |
| dheepak pathang maaeiaa kae shhaedhae || |
| The moth fluttering around the lamp is pierced through by Maya. |
|
| ਕਾਮ ਮਾਇਆ ਕੁੰਚਰ ਕਉ ਬਿਆਪੈ ॥ |
| kaam maaeiaa kunchar ko biaapai || |
| The sexual desire of Maya afflicts the elephant. |
|
| ਭੁਇਅੰਗਮ ਭ੍ਰਿੰਗ ਮਾਇਆ ਮਹਿ ਖਾਪੇ ॥੧॥ |
| bhueiangam bhring maaeiaa mehi khaapae ||1|| |
| The snakes and bumble bees are destroyed through Maya. ||1|| |
|
| ਮਾਇਆ ਐਸੀ ਮੋਹਨੀ ਭਾਈ ॥ |
| maaeiaa aisee mohanee bhaaee || |
| Such are the enticements of Maya, O Siblings of Destiny. |

| ਪੰਖੀ ਮ੍ਰਿਗ ਮਾਇਆ ਮਹਿ ਰਾਤੇ ॥ |
| pankhee mrig maaeiaa mehi raathae || |
| The birds and the deer are imbued with Maya. |
|
| ਤੁਰੇ ਉਸਟ ਮਾਇਆ ਮਹਿ ਭੇਲਾ ॥ |
| thurae ousatt maaeiaa mehi bhaelaa || |
| Horses and camels are absorbed in Maya. |
|
| ਸਿਧ ਚਉਰਾਸੀਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਮਹਿ ਖੇਲਾ ॥੨॥ |
| sidhh chouraaseeh maaeiaa mehi khaelaa ||2|| |
| The eighty-four Siddhas, the beings of miraculous spiritual powers, play in Maya. ||2|| |
|
| ਛਿਅ ਜਤੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਕੇ ਬੰਦਾ ॥ |
| shhia jathee maaeiaa kae bandhaa || |
| The six celibates are slaves of Maya. |
|
| ਤਪੇ ਰਖੀਸਰ ਮਾਇਆ ਮਹਿ ਸੂਤਾ ॥ |
| thapae rakheesar maaeiaa mehi soothaa || |
| The austere disciplinarians and the Rishis are asleep in Maya. |
|
| ਮਾਇਆ ਮਹਿ ਕਾਲੁ ਅਰੁ ਪੰਚ ਦੂਤਾ ॥੩॥ |
| maaeiaa mehi kaal ar panch dhoothaa ||3|| |
| Death and the five demons are in Maya. ||3|| |
|
| ਸੁਆਨ ਸਿਆਲ ਮਾਇਆ ਮਹਿ ਰਾਤਾ ॥ |
| suaan siaal maaeiaa mehi raathaa || |
| Dogs and jackals are imbued with Maya. |
|
| ਬਿਰਖ ਮੂਲ ਮਾਇਆ ਮਹਿ ਪਰਾ ॥੪॥ |
| birakh mool maaeiaa mehi paraa ||4|| |
| trees and roots are planted in Maya. ||4|| |
|
| ਮਾਇਆ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਭੀਨੇ ਦੇਵ ॥ |
| maaeiaa anthar bheenae dhaev || |
| Even the gods are drenched with Maya, |
|
| ਕਹਿ ਕਬੀਰ ਜਿਸੁ ਉਦਰੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਮਾਇਆ ॥ |
| kehi kabeer jis oudhar this maaeiaa || |
| Says Kabeer, whoever has a belly to fill, is under the spell of Maya. |

| ਪਾਂਚ ਪਚੀਸ ਮੋਹ ਮਦ ਮਤਸਰ ਆਡੀ ਪਰਬਲ ਮਾਇਆ ॥ |
| paanch pachees moh madh mathasar aaddee parabal maaeiaa || |
| It is defended by the five elements, the twenty-five categories, attachment, pride, jealousy and the awesomely powerful Maya. |

| ਬੀਬੀ ਕਉਲਾ ਸਉ ਕਾਇਨੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ਆਕਾਰੈ ॥੩॥ |
| beebee koulaa so kaaein thaeraa nirankaar aakaarai ||3|| |
| You are married to Maya, O Formless Lord, and so You have taken form. ||3|| |
|
| ਸਗਲ ਭਵਨ ਤੇਰੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ ॥ |
| sagal bhavan thaeree maaeiaa moh || |
| All the worlds have been fascinated and enchanted by Your Maya, O Lord. |

| ਜੈਸੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਗਲਤੁ ਰਹੈ ॥ |
| jaisae maaeiaa mohi praanee galath rehai || |
| Just as the mortal remains engrossed in attachment to Maya, |

| ਰਾਮ ਰਵੰਤਾ ਜਾਣੀਐ ਇਕ ਮਾਈ ਭੋਗੁ ਕਰੇਇ ॥ |
| raam ravanthaa jaaneeai eik maaee bhog karaee || |
| One who knows the All-pervading Lord, eats up the one mother - Maya. |

| ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਜਲਾਏ ॥ |
| maaeiaa mohu sabadh jalaaeae || |
| Attachment to Maya is burnt away by the Word of the Shabad. |
|
| ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਈ ॥ |
| maaeiaa mohi bahuth dhukh paaee || |
| In attachment to Maya, they suffer in terrible pain. |
|
| ਮਾਇਆ ਮੂਠਾ ਸਦਾ ਬਿਲਲਾਇ ॥੨॥ |
| maaeiaa moothaa sadhaa bilalaae ||2|| |
| Enchanted by Maya, it cries out in suffering forever. ||2|| |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਜਲਾਇ ॥੪॥੪॥੧੬॥ |

| O Nanak, attachment to Maya is burnt away through the Word of the Shabad. ||4||4||16|| |

| ਪਾਖੰਡ ਭਰਮ ਉਪਾਵ ਕਰਿ ਥਾਕੇ ਰਿਦ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਮਾਇਆ ॥ |
| paakhandd bharam oupaav kar thhaakae ridh anthar maaeiaa maaeiaa || |
| Practicing hypocrisy and superstition, people have grown weary of the effort, but still, deep within their hearts, they yearn for Maya, Maya. |

| ਮਾਇਆ ਮਮਤਾ ਤਨ ਤੇ ਭਾਗੀ ਉਪਜਿਓ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਗਿਆਨੁ ॥ |
| maaeiaa mamathaa than thae bhaagee oupajiou niramal giaan || |
| Attachment to Maya has run away from my body, and immaculate spiritual wisdom has welled up within me. |

| ਅਤਿ ਲੁਬਧ ਲੁਭਾਨਉ ਬਿਖਮ ਮਾਇ ॥ |
| ath lubadhh lubhaano bikham maae || |
| It is lured by the poisonous lure of Maya. |
|
| ਧੂੰਮ ਬਾਦਰ ਸਭਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਸਾਜ ॥ |
| dhhoonm baadhar sabh maaeiaa saaj || |
| All the show of Maya is just a cloud of smoke. |
|
| ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਬਹੁ ਭਰਮਿਆ ॥ |
| maaeiaa mohi bahu bharamiaa || |
| He wanders in attachment to Maya. |
|
| ਸਭ ਮਦ ਮਾਤੇ ਕੋਊ ਨ ਜਾਗ ॥ |
| sabh madh maathae kooo n jaag || |
| All are intoxicated with the wine of Maya; no one is awake and aware. |
|
| ਜਾਰਉ ਐਸੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਕੁਟੰਬ ਸਨਬੰਧੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ ਪਸਾਰੀ ॥ |
| jaaro aisee preeth kuttanb sanabandhhee maaeiaa moh pasaaree || |
| Burn away any love of family and relatives, which increases your attachment to Maya. |

| ਆਇਓ ਲਾਭੁ ਲਾਭਨ ਕੈ ਤਾਈ ਮੋਹਨਿ ਠਾਗਉਰੀ ਸਿਉ ਉਲਝਿ ਪਹਾ ॥ |
| aaeiou laabh laabhan kai thaaee mohan thaagouree sio oulajh pehaa || |
| He comes in search of profits, but he is entangled in the enticing illusion of Maya. |
|
| ਸਗਲ ਪਰਾਧ ਏਕੁ ਗੁਣੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਛੋਡਹ ਦਾਸਿ ਭਜਹਾ ॥ |
| sagal paraadhh eaek gun naahee thaakur shhoddeh dhaas bhajehaa || |
| He is full of sins, and he has not even one redeeming virtue. Forsaking his Lord and Master, he is involved with Maya, God's slave. |

| ਬਿਸਰਿਓ ਧੰਧੁ ਬੰਧੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਕੋ ਰਜਨਿ ਸਬਾਈ ਜੰਗਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| bisariou dhhandhh bandhh maaeiaa ko rajan sabaaee jangaa ||1|| rehaao || |
| I have forgotten the entangling affairs of Maya, and I spend my life-night fighting with evil. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਗਏ ਮਨ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ ਗੁਰਿ ਕਾਢੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦ੍ਰੋਹੰ ॥ |
| kilavikh geae man niramal hoee hai gur kaadtae maaeiaa dhrohan || |
| Sinful resides have been wiped away, and my mind is immaculate. The Guru has lifted me up and pulled me out of the deception of Maya. |

| ਮੋਹਨਿ ਸਿਉ ਬਾਵਰ ਮਨੁ ਮੋਹਿਓ ਝੂਠਿ ਠਗਉਰੀ ਪਾਈ ॥੧॥ |
| mohan sio baavar man mohiou jhooth thagouree paaee ||1|| |
| The mad-man's mind is enticed by Maya, the enticer; he has taken the intoxicating drug of falsehood. ||1|| |
|
| ਝੂਠੋ ਮਾਇਆ ਕੋ ਮਦ ਮਾਨੁ ॥ |
| jhootho maaeiaa ko madh maan || |
| False is intoxication and pride in Maya. |
|
| ਮੋਹਨੀ ਮੋਹਤ ਰਹੈ ਨ ਹੋਰੀ ॥ |
| mohanee mohath rehai n horee || |
| The Great Enticer Maya keeps enticing, and cannot be stopped. |
|
| ਰਹਿਤ ਬਿਕਾਰ ਅਲਪ ਮਾਇਆ ਤੇ ਅਹੰਬੁਧਿ ਬਿਖੁ ਤਿਆਗੀ ॥ |
| rehith bikaar alap maaeiaa thae ahanbudhh bikh thiaagee || |
| He is rid of sin and corruption, and detached from Maya; he has renounced the poison of egotistical intellect. |

| ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਨਿ ਜਗਤੁ ਠਗਾਨਾ ਸੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਠਾਗੀ ॥੨॥੪੪॥੬੭॥ |
| kahu naanak jin jagath thagaanaa s maaeiaa har jan thaagee ||2||44||67|| |
| Says Nanak, she who has cheated the world - that Maya is cheated by the humble servant of the Lord. ||2||44||67|| |

| ਬਾਹ ਪਕਰਿ ਕਢਿ ਲੀਨੇ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਅੰਧ ਕੂਪ ਤੇ ਮਾਇਆ ॥ |
| baah pakar kadt leenae apunae grih andhh koop thae maaeiaa || |
| Taking me by the arm, You lifted me up, out of the deep dark pit of household and Maya. |

| ਆਨ ਕਾਮ ਬਿਕਾਰ ਮਾਇਆ ਸਗਲ ਦੀਸਹਿ ਛਾਰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| aan kaam bikaar maaeiaa sagal dheesehi shhaar ||1|| rehaao || |
| Other affairs of Maya are corrupt. They are nothing more than dust. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਸਿਮਰਤ ਏਕੁ ਅਚੁਤ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਬਿਨਸੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਮਾਦ ॥ |
| simarath eaek achuth abinaasee binasae maaeiaa maadh || |
| Meditating in remembrance on the One Unmoving, Eternal, Unchanging Lord God, the intoxication of Maya wears off. |

| ਅਨਾਥ ਰਞਾਣਿ ਉਦਰੁ ਲੇ ਪੋਖਹਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਗਈਆ ਹਾਟਿ ॥ |
| anaathh ranjaan oudhar lae pokhehi maaeiaa geeaa haatt || |
| Making the poor suffer, he fills his belly, but the wealth of Maya shall not go with him. |
