| Emotional attachment to Maya rules deep within all. |

| ਜਿਨਿ ਕੀਤੇ ਜਾ ਤਿਸੈ ਪਛਾਣਹਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੪॥ |
| jin keethae jaa thisai pashhaanehi maaeiaa mohu chukaaeidhaa ||14|| |
| When one realizes the One who created him, emotional attachment to Maya is dispelled. ||14|| |
|
| ਇਕਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਗਰਬਿ ਵਿਆਪੇ ॥ |
| eik maaeiaa mohi garab viaapae || |
| Some are engrossed in emotional attachment to Maya and pride. |
|
| ਆਗੈ ਮੋਹੁ ਨ ਚੂਕੈ ਮਾਇਆ ॥ |
| aagai mohu n chookai maaeiaa || |
| Even in the world hereafter, emotioal attachment to Maya does not leave him. |
|
| ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਸਭੁ ਰੋਗੁ ਕਮਾਇਆ ॥ |
| maaeiaa mohu sabh rog kamaaeiaa || |
| Attached to the love of Maya, he earns nothing but disease. |
|
| ਏਹੁ ਸਰੀਰੁ ਸਭ ਮੂਲੁ ਹੈ ਮਾਇਆ ॥ |
| eaehu sareer sabh mool hai maaeiaa || |
| This body is the source of all Maya; |
|
| ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਬਣਾਇਆ ॥ |
| maaeiaa mohu hukam banaaeiaa || |
| By the Hukam of His Command, He created attachment to Maya. |
|
| ਮਾਇਆ ਮਾਈ ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਪਰਸੂਤਿ ਜਮਾਇਆ ॥ |
| maaeiaa maaee thrai gun parasooth jamaaeiaa || |
| Maya, the mother, gave birth to the three gunas, the three qualities, |

| ਸਾਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਮੁਕਤਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਦਾ ॥੫॥ |
| saachai sabadh sadhaa hai mukathaa maaeiaa mohu chukaaeidhaa ||5|| |
| Through the True Word of the Shabad, he is liberated forever; he renounces emotional attachment to Maya. ||5|| |
|
| ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਭਰਮਿ ਨ ਪਾਏ ॥ |
| maaeiaa mohi bharam n paaeae || |
| In attachment to Maya and doubt, the Lord is not found. |
|
| ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ ਕਾ ਏਹੁ ਪਸਾਰਾ ॥ |
| maaeiaa moh kaa eaehu pasaaraa || |
| The expanse is the manifestation of emotional attachment to Maya. |
|
| ਕਿਸ ਹੀ ਜੋਰੁ ਦੀਬਾਨ ਮਾਇਆ ਕਾ ॥ |
| kis hee jor dheebaan maaeiaa kaa || |
| Some have the power of authority and Maya. |
|
| ਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਨਹ ਜੋਹੈ ਮਾਈ ॥ |
| gur miliai neh johai maaee || |
| Meeting with the Guru, one is not watched by Maya. |
|
| ਕਮਲਾਕੰਤ ਕਰਹਿ ਕੰਤੂਹਲ ਅਨਦ ਬਿਨੋਦੀ ਨਿਹਸੰਗਾ ॥੬॥ |
| kamalaakanth karehi kanthoohal anadh binodhee nihasangaa ||6|| |
| Lord of Maya, miracle-worker, absorbed in delightful play, unattached. ||6|| |
|
| ਭੈ ਭਇਆਨਕ ਜਮਦੂਤ ਦੁਤਰ ਹੈ ਮਾਇਆ ॥ |
| bhai bhaeiaanak jamadhooth dhuthar hai maaeiaa || |
| The Messenger of Death is terrifying and horrendous, and sea of Maya is impassable. |

| ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਸਰਣਿ ਗਹਤ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਕਿਛੁ ਭਉ ਨ ਵਿਆਪੈ ਬਾਲ ਕਾ ॥੧॥ |
| prabh kee saran gehath sukh paaeeai kishh bho n viaapai baal kaa ||1|| |
| Holding tight to the Sanctuary of God, peace is found, and one is not afflicted by the fear of Maya. ||1|| |

| ਅਨਦ ਬਿਨੋਦ ਕਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਨੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਸੰਗਿ ਨ ਤਾਲਕਾ ॥੧੦॥ |
| anadh binodh karae har simaran this maaeiaa sang n thaalakaa ||10|| |
| He delights and enjoys meditative remembrance on the Lord; he has no attachment to Maya. ||10|| |
|
| ਤਿਸ ਹੀ ਪੁਰਖ ਨ ਵਿਆਪੈ ਮਾਇਆ ॥ |
| this hee purakh n viaapai maaeiaa || |
| that person is not afflicted by Maya. |
|
| ਮਾਇਆ ਵੇਖਿ ਨ ਭੁਲੁ ਤੂ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮੂਰਖਾ ॥ |
| maaeiaa vaekh n bhul thoo manamukh moorakhaa || |
| Don't be fooled by gazing at the riches of Maya, you foolish self-willed manmukh. |
|
| ਮਨਮੁਖ ਕਾਲੁ ਵਿਆਪਦਾ ਮੋਹਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਲਾਗੇ ॥ |
| manamukh kaal viaapadhaa mohi maaeiaa laagae || |
| The self-willed manmukhs are afflicted by death; they cling to Maya in emotional attachment. |
|
| ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਜਗਤੁ ਨਿਰਧਨੁ ਹੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਨੋ ਬਿਲਲਾਇ ॥ |
| manamukh jagath niradhhan hai maaeiaa no bilalaae || |
| The world of the self-willed manmukh is poor, crying out for Maya. |
|
| ਮਾਇਆ ਮਨਹੁ ਨ ਵੀਸਰੈ ਮਾਂਗੈ ਦੰਮਾ ਦੰਮ ॥ |
| maaeiaa manahu n veesarai maangai dhanmaa dhanm || |
| You do not forget Maya from your mind; you beg for it with each and every breath. |
|
| ਮਾਇਆ ਸਾਥਿ ਨ ਚਲਈ ਕਿਆ ਲਪਟਾਵਹਿ ਅੰਧ ॥ |
| maaeiaa saathh n chalee kiaa lapattaavehi andhh || |
| Maya and its wealth shall not go along with you, so why do you cling to it - are you blind? |

| ਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਚਰਣ ਧਿਆਇ ਤੂ ਤੂਟਹਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਬੰਧ ॥੨॥ |
| gur kae charan dhhiaae thoo thoottehi maaeiaa bandhh ||2|| |
| Meditate on the Guru's Feet, and the bonds of Maya shall be cut away from you. ||2|| |
|
| ਏਨਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਣੀ ਮੋਹੀਆ ਨਿਤ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਭਰਮਾਈਆ ॥ |
| eaen maaeiaa mohanee moheeaa nith firehi bharamaaeeaa || |
| This Maya fascinates and entices them; they wander continually in doubt. |
|
| ਨਿਰਭਉ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿਆ ਨਾਲਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਰਚਾ ॥ |
| nirabho naam visaariaa naal maaeiaa rachaa || |
| Forgetting the Naam, the Name of the Fearless Lord, he becomes attached to Maya. |

| ਮਾਇਆ ਕਾਰਨ ਬਿਦਿਆ ਬੇਚਹੁ ਜਨਮੁ ਅਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਾਈ ॥੩॥ |
| maaeiaa kaaran bidhiaa baechahu janam abirathhaa jaaee ||3|| |
| For the sake of Maya and money, you sell knowledge; your life is totally worthless. ||3|| |
|
| ਲਾਲਚ ਲਾਗੇ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ਮਾਇਆ ਭਰਮ ਭੁਲਾਹਿਗਾ ॥ |
| laalach laagae janam gavaaeiaa maaeiaa bharam bhulaahigaa || |
| Clinging to greed, you have wasted your life, deluded in the doubt of Maya. |
|
| ਮਾਇਆ ਸੁਤ ਦਾਰਾ ਦੂਖਿ ਸੰਤਾਪੀ ਰਾਮ ॥ |
| maaeiaa suth dhaaraa dhookh santhaapee raam || |
| The mortal suffers in pain, from attachment to Maya, children and spouse. |
|
| ਮਾਇਆ ਸੁਤ ਦਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਚੋਗ ਚੁਗੈ ਨਿਤ ਫਾਸੈ ॥ |
| maaeiaa suth dhaaraa jagath piaaraa chog chugai nith faasai || |
| Maya, his children, his wife and the world are so dear to him; he bites the bait, and is caught. |
|
| ਨਾਨਕ ਤੀਜੈ ਤ੍ਰਿਬਿਧਿ ਲੋਕਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਵਿਆਪੀ ॥੩॥ |
| naanak theejai thribidhh lokaa maaeiaa mohi viaapee ||3|| |
| O Nanak, in the third watch of the three-phased Maya, the world is engrossed in attachment to Maya. ||3|| |
|
| ਕਰਣ ਕਾਰਣ ਸਮਰਥ ਅਪਾਰਾ ਤ੍ਰਿਬਿਧਿ ਮੇਟਿ ਸਮਾਈ ॥ |
| karan kaaran samarathh apaaraa thribidhh maett samaaee || |
| The Infinite, All-powerful Lord is the Creator, the Cause of causes; erasing the three-phased Maya, we merge in Him. |

| ਰਜ ਗੁਣ ਤਮ ਗੁਣ ਸਤ ਗੁਣ ਕਹੀਐ ਇਹ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਭ ਮਾਇਆ ॥ |
| raj gun tham gun sath gun keheeai eih thaeree sabh maaeiaa || |
| Raajas, the quality of energy and activity; Taamas, the quality of darkness and inertia; and Satvas, the quality of purity and light, are all called the creations of Maya, Your illusion. |

| ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਅਰੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਚੂਕਾ ਚਿਤਵਤ ਆਤਮ ਰਾਮਾ ॥੩॥ |
| thrisanaa ar maaeiaa bhram chookaa chithavath aatham raamaa ||3|| |
| Thirst and desire for Maya and doubt depart, remembering the Lord, the Supreme Soul. ||3|| |
|
| ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਬੇਦ ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਹੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਅੰਧੁਲਉ ਧੰਧੁ ਕਮਾਈ ॥੩॥ |
| saasathr baedh thrai gun hai maaeiaa andhhulo dhhandhh kamaaee ||3|| |
| The Shaastras and the Vedas keep the mortal bound to the three modes of Maya, and so he performs his deeds blindly. ||3|| |
|
| ਮਾਇਆ ਮਦਿ ਮਾਤਾ ਰਹਿਆ ਸੋਇ ॥ |
| maaeiaa madh maathaa rehiaa soe || |
| They are asleep, intoxicated with the wine of Maya. |
|
| ਪੜਿ ਪੜਿ ਲੂਝਹਿ ਬਾਦੁ ਵਖਾਣਹਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਗਵਾਈ ॥੩॥ |
| parr parr loojhehi baadh vakhaanehi mil maaeiaa surath gavaaee ||3|| |
| Reading and studying, they argue and debate; attached to Maya, they lose their awareness. ||3|| |
|
| ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਕੀਆ ਜਿਨਿ ਆਪੇ ਆਪੇ ਦੂਜੈ ਲਾਏ ॥੨॥ |
| maaeiaa mohu keeaa jin aapae aapae dhoojai laaeae ||2|| |
| He Himself created love and attachment to Maya; He Himself attaches the mortals to duality. ||2|| |
|
| ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਖੁਆਇਆ ਦੁਖੁ ਖਟੇ ਦੁਖ ਖਾਇ ॥ |
| houmai maaeiaa mohi khuaaeiaa dhukh khattae dhukh khaae || |
| Lost in egotism, Maya and attachment, the mortal earns pain, and eats pain. |

| ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਮੇਲਹੁ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਤੂਟਿ ਗਈ ਮਾਇਆ ਜਮ ਜਾਲੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| kar kirapaa maelahu sathasangath thoott gee maaeiaa jam jaalee ||1|| rehaao || |
| Have mercy on me, Lord, and unite me with the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, so that I may be released from Maya's noose of death. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਛੋਡਿ ਦਾਸੀ ਕਉ ਸਿਮਰਹਿ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਅੰਧ ਅਗਿਆਨਾ ॥ |
| thaakur shhodd dhaasee ko simarehi manamukh andhh agiaanaa || |
| The blind, ignorant, self-willed manmukhs forsake their Lord and Master, and dwell on His slave Maya. |

| ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਭ ਮੋਹੀ ਮਾਇਆ ॥੧॥ |
| bin sathigur sabh mohee maaeiaa ||1|| |
| Without the True Guru, all are enticed by Maya. ||1|| |
|
| ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਮੂਠਾ ਹੈ ਮੂੜੁ ॥ |
| maaeiaa mohi moothaa hai moorr || |
| In love and attachment to Maya, the fool is plundered. |
|
| ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਕੜੇ ਕੜਿ ਪਚਿਆ ॥ |
| maaeiaa mohi karrae karr pachiaa || |
| In love and attachment to Maya, the mortals are sad, and are consumed by sadness. |
|
| ਮਾਇਆ ਲਗਿ ਭੂਲੋ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥ |
| maaeiaa lag bhoolo sansaar || |
| Attached to Maya, the world is deluded and confused. |
|
| ਪੇਖਤ ਮਾਇਆ ਰੰਗ ਬਿਹਾਇ ॥ |
| paekhath maaeiaa rang bihaae || |
| Gazing on Maya's illusion, its pleasures pass away. |
|
| ਪੂਰਨ ਹੋਤ ਨ ਕਾਰਜ ਮਾਇਆ ॥ |
| pooran hoth n kaaraj maaeiaa || |
| and his affairs of Maya are never completed. |
|
| ਤ੍ਰਿਬਿਧਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਰਹੀ ਬਿਆਪਿ ॥ |
| thribidhh maaeiaa rehee biaap || |
| The three-phased Maya infects all. |
|
| ਤੂਟੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ ਪਿਆਰ ॥ |
| thoottae maaeiaa moh piaar || |
| Love and attachment to Maya are broken. |

| ਮਾਇਆ ਕਾਰਣਿ ਕਰੈ ਉਪਾਉ ॥ |
