| He created the world, with its various colors, species of beings, and the variety of Maya. |

| You are squandering this life uselessly in the love of Maya. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਬਾਬਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਰਚਨਾ ਧੋਹੁ ॥ |
| baabaa maaeiaa rachanaa dhhohu || |
| O Baba, the splendor of Maya is deceptive. |
|
| ਧੰਧਾ ਥਕਾ ਹਉ ਮੁਈ ਮਮਤਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ॥ |
| dhhandhhaa thhakaa ho muee mamathaa maaeiaa krodhh || |
| Entanglements end, and egotism dies, along with attachment to Maya, possessiveness and anger. |
|
| ਤਨੁ ਜਲਿ ਬਲਿ ਮਾਟੀ ਭਇਆ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਮਨੂਰੁ ॥ |
| than jal bal maattee bhaeiaa man maaeiaa mohi manoor || |
| The body is burnt to ashes; by its love of Maya, the mind is rusted through. |
|
| ਕਾਹੇ ਗਰਬਸਿ ਮੂੜੇ ਮਾਇਆ ॥ |
| kaahae garabas moorrae maaeiaa || |
| You fool! Why are you so proud of Maya? |
|
| ਆਖਣੁ ਸੁਨਣਾ ਪਉਣ ਕੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਰਤਾ ਮਾਇਆ ॥ |
| aakhan sunanaa poun kee baanee eihu man rathaa maaeiaa || |
| This speaking and listening is like the song of the wind, for those whose minds are colored by the love of Maya. |
|
| ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਅੰਧੁ ਹੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ ਗੁਬਾਰ ॥ |
| thrai gun bikhiaa andhh hai maaeiaa moh gubaar || |
| In the corruption of the three qualities, there is blindness; in attachment to Maya, there is darkness. |
|
| ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਵਿਸਾਰਿਆ ਜਗਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲਿ ॥ |
| maaeiaa mohi visaariaa jagath pithaa prathipaal || |
| In attachment to Maya, they have forgotten the Father, the Cherisher of the World. |
|
| ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਹੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਚਉਥਾ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਇ ॥ |
| thrai gun maaeiaa mohu hai guramukh chouthhaa padh paae || |
| The three qualities hold people in attachment to Maya. The Gurmukh attains the fourth state of higher consciousness. |
|
| ਇਹੁ ਸਰੀਰੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਕਾ ਪੁਤਲਾ ਵਿਚਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੁਸਟੀ ਪਾਈ ॥ |
| eihu sareer maaeiaa kaa puthalaa vich houmai dhusattee paaee || |
| This body is the puppet of Maya. The evil of egotism is within it. |
|
| ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਵਿਸਾਰਿਆ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਦਾਤਾਰੁ ॥ |
| maaeiaa mohi visaariaa sukhadhaathaa dhaathaar || |
| In emotional attachment to Maya, they have forgotten the Great Giver, the Giver of Peace. |
|
| ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਆਪਿ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਚੁਕਾਇ ॥ |
| aapae hee aap man vasiaa maaeiaa mohu chukaae || |
| He Himself abides in the mind, and drives out attachment to Maya. |
|
| ਮਾਇਆ ਜੇਵਡੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਨਹੀ ਸਭਿ ਭਵਿ ਥਕੇ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥ |
| maaeiaa jaevadd dhukh nehee sabh bhav thhakae sansaar || |
| There is no pain as great as the pain of Maya; it drives people to wander all around the world, until they become exhausted. |
|
| ਗੁੜੁ ਮਿਠਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਪਸਰਿਆ ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਲਗਿ ਮਾਖੀ ਪਚੈ ਪਚਾਇ ॥੧॥ |
| gurr mithaa maaeiaa pasariaa manamukh lag maakhee pachai pachaae ||1|| |
| Maya spreads out like sweet molasses; the self-willed manmukh is stuck like a fly, rotting away. ||1|| |
|
| ਲੈਦਾ ਬਦ ਦੁਆਇ ਤੂੰ ਮਾਇਆ ਕਰਹਿ ਇਕਤ ॥ |
| laidhaa badh dhuaae thoon maaeiaa karehi eikath || |
| Gathering the wealth of Maya, you earn an evil reputation. |
|
| ਓਤੈ ਸਾਥਿ ਮਨੁਖੁ ਹੈ ਫਾਥਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਜਾਲਿ ॥ |
| outhai saathh manukh hai faathhaa maaeiaa jaal || |
| Mankind is also with them, trapped in the net of Maya. |
|
| ਮਾਇਆ ਕਾਮਿ ਵਿਆਪਿਆ ਸਮਝੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗਾਵਾਰੁ ॥ |
| maaeiaa kaam viaapiaa samajhai naahee gaavaar || |
| Engrossed in Maya and sexual desire, the fool does not understand. |
|
| ਏਕਸ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਭ ਧੰਧੁ ਹੈ ਸਭ ਮਿਥਿਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਮਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| eaekas bin sabh dhhandhh hai sabh mithhiaa mohu maae ||1|| rehaao || |
| Without the One, all entanglements are worthless; emotional attachment to Maya is totally false. ||1||Pause|| |
|
| ਮਾਇਆ ਕਾ ਰੰਗੁ ਸਭੁ ਫਿਕਾ ਜਾਤੋ ਬਿਨਸਿ ਨਿਦਾਨਿ ॥ |
| maaeiaa kaa rang sabh fikaa jaatho binas nidhaan || |
| All the pleasures of Maya are tasteless and insipid. In the end, they shall all fade away. |
|
| ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ ਪਰੀਤਿ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਸੁਖੀ ਨ ਦੀਸੈ ਕੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| maaeiaa moh pareeth dhhrig sukhee n dheesai koe ||1|| rehaao || |
| Cursed is emotional attachment and love of Maya; no one is seen to be at peace. ||1||Pause|| |
|
| ਮਾਇਆ ਜਾਲੁ ਪਸਾਰਿਆ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਚੋਗ ਬਣਾਇ ॥ |
| maaeiaa jaal pasaariaa bheethar chog banaae || |
| Maya has spread out her net, and in it, she has placed the bait. |
|
| ਬਿਨੁ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਰਤਿਆ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਸਭੁ ਛਾਰੁ ॥੧॥ |
| bin saadhhoo sangath rathiaa maaeiaa mohu sabh shhaar ||1|| |
| Without being attuned to the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, all attachment to Maya is just dust. ||1|| |
|
| ਅਨ ਕਉ ਮਤੀ ਦੇ ਚਲਹਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਕਾ ਵਾਪਾਰੁ ॥ |
| an ko mathee dhae chalehi maaeiaa kaa vaapaar || |
| They give instructions to others, and then walk away, but they deal in Maya themselves. |
|
| ਬਾਬਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਇ ॥ |
| baabaa maaeiaa bharam bhulaae || |
| O Baba, Maya deceives with its illusion. |
|
| ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਣੀ ਸੁਤ ਬੰਧਪ ਘਰ ਨਾਰਿ ॥ |
| thrisanaa maaeiaa mohanee suth bandhhap ghar naar || |
| The enticing desire for Maya leads people to become emotionally attached to their children, relatives, households and spouses. |
|
| ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਣ ਕਾਮਿ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਮਾਇਆ ਫੀਕਾ ਸਾਦੁ ॥੬॥ |
| bin gun kaam n aavee maaeiaa feekaa saadh ||6|| |
| Without virtue, nothing is of any use. The taste of Maya is bland and insipid. ||6|| |
|
| ਇਉ ਸਰਪਨਿ ਕੈ ਵਸਿ ਜੀਅੜਾ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੋਇ ॥ |
| eio sarapan kai vas jeearraa anthar houmai dhoe || |
| just so, they are under the power of the snake Maya, as long as their hearts are filled with ego and duality. |
|
| ਮਾਇਆ ਭੂਲੇ ਸਿਧ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਸਮਾਧਿ ਨ ਲਗੈ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥ |
| maaeiaa bhoolae sidhh firehi samaadhh n lagai subhaae || |
| The Siddhas wander around, deluded by Maya; they are not absorbed in the Samaadhi of the Lord's Sublime Love. |
|
| ਤੀਨੇ ਲੋਅ ਵਿਆਪਤ ਹੈ ਅਧਿਕ ਰਹੀ ਲਪਟਾਇ ॥ |
| theenae loa viaapath hai adhhik rehee lapattaae || |
| The three worlds are permeated by Maya; they are totally covered by it. |
|
| ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਨਾ ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਜਾਇ ॥੫॥ |
| bin gur mukath n paaeeai naa dhubidhhaa maaeiaa jaae ||5|| |
| Without the Guru, liberation is not attained, and the double-mindedness of Maya does not go away. ||5|| |
|
| ਮਾਇਆ ਕਿਸ ਨੋ ਆਖੀਐ ਕਿਆ ਮਾਇਆ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਇ ॥ |
| maaeiaa kis no aakheeai kiaa maaeiaa karam kamaae || |
| What is called Maya? What does Maya do? |

| ਸਬਦੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰੀਐ ਮਾਇਆ ਕਾ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਜਾਇ ॥ |
| sabadhae houmai maareeai maaeiaa kaa bhram jaae || |
| Through the Shabad, egotism is conquered and subdued, and the illusion of Maya is dispelled. |
|
| ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਮੇਰੈ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਕੀਨਾ ਆਪੇ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਏ ॥ |
| maaeiaa mohu maerai prabh keenaa aapae bharam bhulaaeae || |
| Emotional attachment to Maya is created by my God; He Himself misleads us through illusion and doubt. |
|
| ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚਿ ਸਹਜੁ ਨ ਊਪਜੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ॥ |
| maaeiaa vich sehaj n oopajai maaeiaa dhoojai bhaae || |
| Within Maya, the poise of intuitive balance is not produced. Maya leads to the love of duality. |
|
| ਬਿਨੁ ਸਹਜੈ ਸਭੁ ਅੰਧੁ ਹੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਗੁਬਾਰੁ ॥ |
| bin sehajai sabh andhh hai maaeiaa mohu gubaar || |
| Without intuitive balance, all are blind. Emotional attachment to Maya is utter darkness. |
|
| ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬਾਝੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਓ ਸਭ ਮੋਹੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਜਾਲਿ ਜੀਉ ॥੩॥ |
| sathigur baajh n paaeiou sabh mohee maaeiaa jaal jeeo ||3|| |
| but without the Guru, no one finds You. All are enticed and trapped by Maya. ||3|| |
|
| ਤਿਥੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ ॥ |
| thithhai maaeiaa mohu chukaaeiaa || |
| By His Grace, I have shed emotional attachment to Maya. |
|
| ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਚੇਤੈ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਬਿਕਲੁ ਭਇਆ ਸੰਗਿ ਮਾਇਆ ॥ |
| har kaa naam n chaethai praanee bikal bhaeiaa sang maaeiaa || |
| You do not remember the Name of the Lord, and you become confused by Maya. |
|
| ਖੀਰੁ ਪੀਐ ਖੇਲਾਈਐ ਵਣਜਾਰਿਆ ਮਿਤ੍ਰਾ ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਸੁਤ ਹੇਤੁ ॥ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਸੁਤ ਨੇਹੁ ਘਨੇਰਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਸਬਾਈ ॥ |
| kheer peeai khaelaaeeai vanajaariaa mithraa maath pithaa suth haeth || maath pithaa suth naehu ghanaeraa maaeiaa mohu sabaaee || |
| You drink milk, and you are fondled so gently, O my merchant friend. The mother and father love their child so much, but in Maya, all are caught in emotional attachment. |
|
| ਇਹੁ ਧਨੁ ਸੰਪੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਝੂਠੀ ਅੰਤਿ ਛੋਡਿ ਚਲਿਆ ਪਛੁਤਾਈ ॥ |
| eihu dhhan sanpai maaeiaa jhoothee anth shhodd chaliaa pashhuthaaee || |
| This wealth, property and Maya are false. In the end, you must leave these, and depart in sorrow. |
|
| ਇਹੁ ਮੋਹੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਤੇਰੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਨ ਚਾਲੈ ਝੂਠੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਲਗਾਈ ॥ |
| eihu mohu maaeiaa thaerai sang n chaalai jhoothee preeth lagaaee || |
| This emotional attachment to Maya shall not go with you; it is false to fall in love with it. |
|
| ਸਖੀ ਮੰਗਲੋ ਗਾਇਆ ਇਛ ਪੁਜਾਇਆ ਬਹੁੜਿ ਨ ਮਾਇਆ ਹੋਹਿਆ ॥ |
| sakhee mangalo gaaeiaa eishh pujaaeiaa bahurr n maaeiaa hohiaa || |
| O my companions, sing the Songs of Joy. My desires have been fulfilled, and I shall never again be trapped or shaken by Maya. |
|
| ਜੋ ਮੋਹਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇਦੇ ਸੇ ਛੋਡਿ ਚਲੇ ਦੁਖੁ ਰੋਇ ॥ |
| jo mohi maaeiaa chith laaeidhae sae shhodd chalae dhukh roe || |
| Those who focus their consciousness on emotional attachment to Maya must leave; they depart crying out in despair. |
|
| ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿਆ ਵੇਖਣੁ ਸੁਨਣੁ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥ |
| eihu man maaeiaa mohiaa vaekhan sunan n hoe || |
| This mind is enticed by Maya-it cannot see or hear. |
|
| ਹੋਰੁ ਕੂੜੁ ਪੜਣਾ ਕੂੜੁ ਬੋਲਣਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਨਾਲਿ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥ |
| hor koorr parranaa koorr bolanaa maaeiaa naal piaar || |
| False is other reading, and false is other speaking, in the love of Maya. |
|
| ਪੜਿ ਪੜਿ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਬੇਦ ਵਖਾਣਹਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ ਸੁਆਇ ॥ |
| parr parr panddith baedh vakhaanehi maaeiaa moh suaae || |
| The Pandits, the religious scholars, constantly read and recite the Vedas, for the sake of the love of Maya. |
|
| ਪੰਡਿਤੁ ਪੜਿ ਪੜਿ ਉਚਾ ਕੂਕਦਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥ |
| panddith parr parr ouchaa kookadhaa maaeiaa mohi piaar || |
| The Pandits, the religious scholars, read and read, and shout out loud, but they are attached to the love of Maya. |
