| ਜੇਤਾ ਊਡਹਿ ਦੁਖ ਘਣੇ ਨਿਤ ਦਾਝਹਿ ਤੈ ਬਿਲਲਾਹਿ ॥ |
| jaethaa ooddehi dhukh ghanae nith dhaajhehi thai bilalaahi || |
| The more they fly around, the more they suffer; they burn and cry out in pain. |

| ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਜਗੁ ਦੁਖੀਆ ਫਿਰੈ ਮਨਮੁਖਾ ਨੋ ਗਈ ਖਾਇ ॥ |
| bin sabadhai jag dhukheeaa firai manamukhaa no gee khaae || |
| Without the Shabad, the world wanders lost in pain. The self-willed manmukh is consumed. |

| ਦੁਖਿ ਸੁਖਿ ਏਹੁ ਜੀਉ ਬਧੁ ਹੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਇ ॥ |
| dhukh sukh eaehu jeeo badhh hai houmai karam kamaae || |
| These beings are bound by pleasure and pain; they do their deeds in egotism. |

| ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਫੇਰੁ ਨ ਪਵੈ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਦੁਖੁ ਜਾਇ ॥ |
| sathigur miliai faer n pavai janam maran dhukh jaae || |
| Meeting with the True Guru, you shall not have to go through the cycle of reincarnation again; the pains of birth and death will be taken away. |

| ਜੇ ਕੋ ਹੋਵੈ ਦੁਬਲਾ ਨੰਗ ਭੁਖ ਕੀ ਪੀਰ ॥ |
| jae ko hovai dhubalaa nang bhukh kee peer || |
| If you are weakened by the pains of hunger and poverty, |

| ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਕਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਕਟਿਆ ਭਾਗੁ ਬੈਠਾ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਆਇ ਜੀਉ ॥੧੧॥ |
| dhuramath kaa dhukh kattiaa bhaag baithaa masathak aae jeeo ||11|| |
| The pain of evil-mindedness is eliminated; good fortune comes and shines radiantly from their foreheads. ||11|| |
|
| ਪਤਿ ਸੇਤੀ ਜਾਵੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ਸਗਲੇ ਦੂਖ ਮਿਟਾਵੈ ॥ |
| path saethee jaavai sehaj samaavai sagalae dhookh mittaavai || |
| He departs with honor, and merges in intuitive peace and poise; all his pains depart. |
|
| ਹਰਿ ਸੇਤੀ ਸਦ ਮਾਣਹੁ ਰਲੀਆ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਦੁਖ ਖੋਵਹੁ ॥ |
| har saethee sadh maanahu raleeaa janam maran dhukh khovahu || |
| Enjoy ecstasy forever with the Lord, and do away with the pains of birth and death. |
|
| ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਸਿਉ ਸੰਗੁ ਨ ਕੀਆ ਬਹੁ ਜੋਨੀ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥ |
| saadhhasangath sio sang n keeaa bahu jonee dhukh paavai || |
| He does not join the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, and he suffers in terrible pain through countless incarnations. |

| ਹਉਮੈ ਰੋਗੁ ਗਇਆ ਦੁਖੁ ਲਾਥਾ ਆਪੁ ਆਪੈ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਖਾਧਾ ॥ |
| houmai rog gaeiaa dhukh laathhaa aap aapai guramath khaadhhaa || |
| The sickness of my ego has been dispelled, and my pain is over and done. Through the Guru's Teachings, my identity has consumed my identical identity. |

| ਚਰਣ ਕਮਲ ਕਰਿ ਬੋਹਿਥੁ ਕਰਤੇ ਸਹਸਾ ਦੂਖੁ ਨ ਬਿਆਪੈ ॥ |
| charan kamal kar bohithh karathae sehasaa dhookh n biaapai || |
| Let the Lord's Lotus Feet be your Boat, so that pain and skepticism shall not touch you. |

| ਮਨ ਬਾਂਛਤ ਫਲ ਦੇਤ ਹੈ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਜੀਅ ਕੀ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਸਾਰੇ ॥ |
| man baanshhath fal dhaeth hai suaamee jeea kee birathhaa saarae || |
| My Lord and Master is the Giver of the fruits of the mind's desires. He knows all the useless vanities and pains of the soul. |

| ਹਰਿ ਕੰਠਿ ਲਗਿ ਸੋਹਿਆ ਦੋਖ ਸਭਿ ਜੋਹਿਆ ਭਗਤਿ ਲਖ੍ਯ੍ਯਣ ਕਰਿ ਵਸਿ ਭਏ ॥ |
| har kanth lag sohiaa dhokh sabh johiaa bhagath lakhyan kar vas bheae || |
| Held in the Lord's loving embrace, I look beautiful, and all my pains have been dispelled. By the loving worship of His devotees, the Lord has come under their power. |

| ਹੁਕਮੁ ਨ ਜਾਣੈ ਬਹੁਤਾ ਰੋਵੈ ॥ |
| hukam n jaanai bahuthaa rovai || |
| One who does not know the Hukam of the Lord's Command cries out in terrible pain. |
|
| ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮਰਹਿ ਅਹੰਕਾਰਿ ਮਰਣੁ ਵਿਗਾੜਿਆ ॥ |
| manamukh marehi ahankaar maran vigaarriaa || |
| The self-willed manmukhs die in egotism-even their death is painfully ugly. |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਸਭੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿਆ ॥੧॥ |
| naanak bin naavai sabh dhukh sukh visaariaa ||1|| |
| O Nanak, without the Name, everything is painful, and happiness is forgotten. ||1|| |

| ਮਨਮੁਖ ਕਰਮ ਕਰੇ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀ ਸਭੁ ਦੁਖੋ ਦੁਖੁ ਕਮਾਇ ॥ |
| manamukh karam karae ahankaaree sabh dhukho dhukh kamaae || |
| The self-willed manmukh does deeds in egotism; he earns only pain and more pain. |

| ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਹੁ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਜਿਤੁ ਦਾਲਦੁ ਦੁਖ ਭੁਖ ਸਭ ਲਹਿ ਜਾਤੀ ॥ |
| har har naam japahu man maerae jith dhaaladh dhukh bhukh sabh lehi jaathee || |
| Chant the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, O my mind; through it, all poverty, pain and hunger shall be removed. |
|
| ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਸੁ ਪਿੰਜਰ ਮਹਿ ਬਿਰਹਾ ਨਹੀ ਸੋ ਪਿੰਜਰੁ ਲੈ ਜਾਰਿ ॥੧॥ |
| naanak jis pinjar mehi birehaa nehee so pinjar lai jaar ||1|| |
| O Nanak, that human body, in which there is no pain of separation from the Lord-take that body and burn it. ||1|| |
|
| ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਭਾਣੈ ਜੋ ਚਲੈ ਸਭਿ ਦੁਖ ਨਿਵਾਰਣਹਾਰਿ ॥ |
| gur kai bhaanai jo chalai sabh dhukh nivaaranehaar || |
| But she who walks in harmony with the Guru's Will, shall be spared all pain and suffering. |
|
| ਮਨਮੁਖ ਅਗਿਆਨੀ ਮਹਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਦੇ ਡੁਬੇ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿ ॥ |
| manamukh agiaanee mehaa dhukh paaeidhae ddubae har naam visaar || |
| The ignorant, self-willed manmukhs suffer in terrible pain; they forget the Lord's Name and drown. |
|
| ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਚੁਕਈ ਜਲਦੀ ਕਰੇ ਪੂਕਾਰ ॥ |
| thrisanaa kadhae n chukee jaladhee karae pookaar || |
| Her desires are never satisfied, and she burns and cries out in pain. |
|
| ਤੇ ਦਿਨ ਸੰਮਲੁ ਕਸਟ ਮਹਾ ਦੁਖ ਅਬ ਚਿਤੁ ਅਧਿਕ ਪਸਾਰਿਆ ॥ |
| thae dhin sanmal kasatt mehaa dhukh ab chith adhhik pasaariaa || |
| Remember the terrible pain and suffering of those days, now that you have spread out the net of your consciousness far and wide. |

| ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਤਨਿ ਵੇਦਨ ਗੁਰ ਬਿਰਹੁ ਲਗਾਵੈ ॥ |
| maerae man than vaedhan gur birahu lagaavai || |
| My mind and body are afflicted with the pain of separation from the Guru. |
|
| ਭਾਗਹੀਨ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਚੋਟਾ ਖਾਵਹਿ ॥ |
| bhaageheen bhram chottaa khaavehi || |
| while the unfortunate ones wander around in doubt, enduring painful beatings. |
|
| ਦੁਖੁ ਤਦੇ ਜਾ ਵਿਸਰਿ ਜਾਵੈ ॥ |
| dhukh thadhae jaa visar jaavai || |
| They forget the Lord, and they suffer in pain. |
|
| ਦੁਖ ਭੰਜਨ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਅਮੋਲੇ ॥ |
| dhukh bhanjan nidhhaan amolae || |
| O Destroyer of pain, Priceless Treasure, |
|
| ਅਨਦੁ ਭਇਆ ਨਿਕਸੀ ਸਭ ਪੀਰਾ ਸਗਲ ਬਿਨਾਸੇ ਦਰਦਾ ਜੀਉ ॥੨॥ |
| anadh bhaeiaa nikasee sabh peeraa sagal binaasae dharadhaa jeeo ||2|| |
| I am filled with bliss, and all my pains have been taken away. All my suffering has been dispelled. ||2|| |

| ਦੁਖ ਭੰਜਨ ਸੁਖ ਸਾਗਰ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੇਤ ਸਗਲ ਆਹਾਰੇ ਜੀਉ ॥੨॥ |
| dhukh bhanjan sukh saagar suaamee dhaeth sagal aahaarae jeeo ||2|| |
| The Destroyer of pain, the Ocean of Peace, the Lord and Master gives sustenance to all. ||2|| |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਨੁ ਕੀਆ ਦੁਖ ਭੰਜਨਿ ਰਤੇ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਸਾਲੀ ਜੀਉ ॥੪॥੩੨॥੩੯॥ |
| naanak dhaan keeaa dhukh bhanjan rathae rang rasaalee jeeo ||4||32||39|| |
| O Nanak, the Destroyer of pain has given this Gift; I am imbued with the Love of the Delightful Lord. ||4||32||39|| |

| ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਦੁਖ ਭੰਜਨਹਾਰਾ ॥ |
| sukhadhaathaa dhukh bhanjanehaaraa || |
| He is the Giver of Peace, the Destroyer of pain. |
|
| ਲੇਪੁ ਨਹੀ ਜਗਜੀਵਨ ਦਾਤੇ ਦਰਸਨ ਡਿਠੇ ਲਹਨਿ ਵਿਜੋਗਾ ਜੀਉ ॥੩॥ |
| laep nehee jagajeevan dhaathae dharasan ddithae lehan vijogaa jeeo ||3|| |
| Filth does not stick to the Giver, the Life of the World. Gazing upon the Blessed Vision of His Darshan, the pain of separation departs. ||3|| |

| ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸਦਾ ਫਿਰੈ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਭੂਲਾ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੨॥ |
| anadhin sadhaa firai bhram bhoolaa bin naavai dhukh paavaniaa ||2|| |
| Night and day, it wanders around endlessly, deluded by doubt; without the Name, it suffers in pain. ||2|| |
|
| ਜਮਪੁਰਿ ਬਧਾ ਦੁਖ ਸਹਾਹੀ ॥ |
| jamapur badhhaa dhukh sehaahee || |
| Bound and gagged in the City of Death, they suffer in terrible pain. |
|
| ਕਾਲੁ ਨ ਚਾਪੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਨ ਸੰਤਾਪੈ ॥ |
| kaal n chaapai dhukh n santhaapai || |
| Death does not crush him, and pain does not afflict him. |
|
| ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਜਲਦੀ ਫਿਰੈ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਪਿਰ ਬਹੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੨॥ |
| anadhin jaladhee firai dhin raathee bin pir bahu dhukh paavaniaa ||2|| |
| Night and day, day and night, they burn. Without her Husband Lord, the soul-bride suffers in terrible pain. ||2|| |
|
| ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਨ ਪਾਏ ਦੁਖੋ ਦੁਖੁ ਕਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ |
| bin sathigur saevae sukh n paaeae dhukho dhukh kamaavaniaa ||7|| |
| Without serving the True Guru, they find no peace; they earn only pain and misery. ||7|| |
|
| ਕੂੜੁ ਕਮਾਵਨਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਲਾਗੈ ਭਾਰਾ ॥ |
| koorr kamaavan dhukh laagai bhaaraa || |
| They practice falsehood, and suffer terrible pain. |
|
| ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਦੁਖੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਸਮ ਕਰਿ ਜਾਨਣਿਆ ॥੮॥੧੦॥੧੧॥ |
| naanak naam milai vaddiaaee dhukh sukh sam kar jaananiaa ||8||10||11|| |
| O Nanak, one who obtains the Greatness of the Naam, looks upon pain and pleasure as one and the same. ||8||10||11|| |

| ਬਿਨੁ ਰਾਸੀ ਸਭ ਖਾਲੀ ਚਲੇ ਖਾਲੀ ਜਾਇ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥ |
| bin raasee sabh khaalee chalae khaalee jaae dhukh paavaniaa ||5|| |
| Without true wealth, everyone goes empty-handed; going empty-handed, they suffer in pain. ||5|| |

| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜੋਰੁ ਕਰੇ ਕਿਆ ਤਿਸ ਨੋ ਆਪੇ ਖਪਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੩॥ |
| guramukh jor karae kiaa this no aapae khap dhukh paavaniaa ||3|| |
| Who can oppress the Gurmukh? One who tries shall perish, writhing in pain. ||3|| |
|
| ਦੁਖੀਏ ਨਿਤਿ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਬਿਲਲਾਦੇ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਨ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੬॥ |
| dhukheeeae nith firehi bilalaadhae bin gur saanth n paavaniaa ||6|| |
| These miserable people wander endlessly, crying out in pain; without the Guru, they find no peace. ||6|| |
|
| ਹਉਮੈ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਭੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਗਵਾਏ ॥ |
| houmai maeraa sabh dhukh gavaaeae || |
| all the pains of egotism, selfishness and conceit are eliminated. |
|
| ਮੈਲਾ ਖਾਇ ਫਿਰਿ ਮੈਲੁ ਵਧਾਏ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮੈਲੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ |
| mailaa khaae fir mail vadhhaaeae manamukh mail dhukh paavaniaa ||7|| |
| eating filth, the self-willed manmukhs become even more filthy. Because of their filth, they suffer in pain. ||7|| |
|
| ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਇਸੁ ਮਨਹਿ ਨਚਾਏ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਕਪਟੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੪॥ |
| maaeiaa mohu eis manehi nachaaeae anthar kapatt dhukh paavaniaa ||4|| |
| The love of Maya makes this mind dance, and the deceit within makes people suffer in pain. ||4|| |
|
| ਸਚੈ ਨਾਇ ਦੁਖੁ ਕਬ ਹੀ ਨਾਹੀ ॥ |
| sachai naae dhukh kab hee naahee || |
| With the True Name, pain shall never afflict you. |
|
| ਹਰਖੁ ਸੋਗੁ ਸਭੁ ਮੋਹੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥ |
| harakh sog sabh mohu gavaaeiaa || |
| Pleasure and pain, and all emotional attachments are gone. |
|
| ਹਲਤੁ ਪਲਤੁ ਤਿਨੀ ਦੋਵੈ ਗਵਾਏ ਦੁਖੇ ਦੁਖਿ ਵਿਹਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥ |
| halath palath thinee dhovai gavaaeae dhukhae dhukh vihaavaniaa ||5|| |
| They forfeit both this world and the next, and they pass their lives suffering in pain and misery. ||5|| |
|
| ਸਰੀਰਹੁ ਭਾਲਣਿ ਕੋ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਜਾਏ ॥ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਲਹੈ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਵੇਗਾਰਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ॥ |
| sareerahu bhaalan ko baahar jaaeae || naam n lehai bahuth vaegaar dhukh paaeae || |
| Those who look outside the body, searching for the Lord, shall not receive the Naam; they shall instead be forced to suffer the terrible pains of slavery. |

| ਕਾਲੁ ਨ ਜੋਹੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਨ ਸੰਤਾਪੇ ॥ |
| kaal n johai dhukh n santhaapae || |
| Death does not see them, and pain does not afflict them. |
