ਜਮ ਡੰਡੁ ਸਹਹਿ ਸਦਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ॥੪॥ |
jam ddandd sehehi sadhaa dhukh paaeae ||4|| |
They are beaten by the Messenger of Death with his rod, and they suffer in constant pain. ||4|| |

ਪਰਤਖਿ ਪਿਰੁ ਘਰਿ ਨਾਲਿ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਵਿਛੁੜਿ ਚੋਟਾ ਖਾਇ ॥੩॥ |
parathakh pir ghar naal piaaraa vishhurr chottaa khaae ||3|| |
Your Beloved Husband is now manifest before you in your own home, but you are separated from Him, and you suffer such pain! ||3|| |

ਤਬ ਤੇ ਦੂਖ ਡੰਡ ਅਰੁ ਖੇਦਾ ॥ |
thab thae dhookh ddandd ar khaedhaa || |
then he suffers pain, punishment and sorrow. |
 |
ਜਾਸੁ ਜਪਤ ਸਗਲਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਲਾਥਾ ॥੬॥ |
jaas japath sagalaa dhukh laathhaa ||6|| |
Meditating on Him, all pains are destroyed. ||6|| |

ਕਲਿ ਕਲੇਸ ਭੈ ਭ੍ਰਮ ਦੁਖ ਲਾਥਾ ॥ |
kal kalaes bhai bhram dhukh laathhaa || |
My troubles, conflicts, fears, doubts and pains have been dispelled; |

ਦੂਖੁ ਅੰਧੇਰਾ ਘਰ ਤੇ ਮਿਟਿਓ ॥ |
dhookh andhhaeraa ghar thae mittiou || |
Pain and darkness shall depart from your home, |
 |
ਭਉ ਖੰਡਨੁ ਦੁਖ ਭੰਜਨੋ ਭਗਤਿ ਵਛਲ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਇਓ ॥੫॥ |
bho khanddan dhukh bhanjano bhagath vashhal har naaeiou ||5|| |
The Destroyer of fear, the Dispeller of pain, the Lover of His Saints - these are the Names of the Lord. ||5|| |

ਮੁੰਧ ਰੈਣਿ ਦੁਹੇਲੜੀਆ ਜੀਉ ਨੀਦ ਨ ਆਵੈ ॥ |
mundhh rain dhuhaelarreeaa jeeo needh n aavai || |
For the bride, the night is painful; sleep does not come. |

ਸਾ ਧਨ ਦੁਬਲੀਆ ਜੀਉ ਪਿਰ ਕੈ ਹਾਵੈ ॥ |
saa dhhan dhubaleeaa jeeo pir kai haavai || |
The soul-bride has grown weak, in the pain of separation from her Husband Lord. |

ਧਨ ਥੀਈ ਦੁਬਲਿ ਕੰਤ ਹਾਵੈ ਕੇਵ ਨੈਣੀ ਦੇਖਏ ॥ |
dhhan thheeee dhubal kanth haavai kaev nainee dhaekheae || |
The soul-bride is wasting away, in the pain of separation from her Husband; how can she see Him with her eyes? |

ਧਨ ਨਾਹ ਬਾਝਹੁ ਰਹਿ ਨ ਸਾਕੈ ਬਿਖਮ ਰੈਣਿ ਘਣੇਰੀਆ ॥ |
dhhan naah baajhahu rehi n saakai bikham rain ghanaereeaa || |
The soul-bride cannot live without her Husband; the night is so painful for her. |

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾ ਧਨ ਮਿਲੈ ਮਿਲਾਈ ਬਿਨੁ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ॥੧॥ |
naanak saa dhhan milai milaaee bin preetham dhukh paaeae ||1|| |
O Nanak, the bride meets Him when He causes her to meet Him; without her Beloved, she suffers in pain. ||1|| |

ਨਾਨਕ ਕਾਮਣਿ ਹਰਿ ਵਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਗਲੇ ਦੂਖ ਵਿਸਾਰੇ ॥੨॥ |
naanak kaaman har var paaeiaa sagalae dhookh visaarae ||2|| |
O Nanak, the soul-bride attains her Husband Lord, and forgets all her pains. ||2|| |

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰੇ ਮਿਲੀਐ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਨਿਵਾਰੇ ॥ |
anthar our dhhaarae mileeai piaarae anadhin dhukh nivaarae || |
Enshrining Him deep within her heart night and day, she meets her Beloved, and her pains depart. |

ਮਾਇਆ ਬੰਧਨ ਟਿਕੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਖਿਨੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਸੰਤਾਏ ॥ |
maaeiaa bandhhan ttikai naahee khin khin dhukh santhaaeae || |
Bound by Maya, the mind is not stable. Each and every moment, it suffers in pain. |

ਨਾਨਕ ਮਾਇਆ ਕਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਤਦੇ ਚੂਕੈ ਜਾ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਏ ॥੩॥ |
naanak maaeiaa kaa dhukh thadhae chookai jaa gur sabadhee chith laaeae ||3|| |
O Nanak, the pain of Maya is taken away by focusing one's consciousness on the Word of the Guru's Shabad. ||3|| |

ਸਿਮਰਿ ਮਨਾ ਦਾਮੋਦਰੁ ਦੁਖਹਰੁ ਭੈ ਭੰਜਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇਆ ॥ |
simar manaa dhaamodhar dhukhehar bhai bhanjan har raaeiaa || |
O my mind, remember the Lord in meditation; He is the Destroyer of pain, the Eradicator of fear, the Sovereign Lord King. |

ਰੋਗ ਸੋਗ ਸਭਿ ਦੋਖ ਬਿਨਸਹਿ ਜਪਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੁਰਾਰੀ ॥ |
rog sog sabh dhokh binasehi japath naam muraaree || |
All illnesses, sufferings and pains are dispelled, by chanting the Name of the Lord. |

ਕਾਲੁ ਕੰਟਕੁ ਲੋਭੁ ਮੋਹੁ ਨਾਸੈ ਜੀਅ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਬਸੈ ॥ |
kaal kanttak lobh mohu naasai jeea jaa kai prabh basai || |
The pains of death, greed and emotional attachment simply vanish, when God comes to dwell in the soul. |

ਕਲਿ ਕਲੇਸ ਮਿਟਹਿ ਭ੍ਰਮ ਨਾਸਹਿ ਮਨਿ ਚਿੰਦਿਆ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਈਐ ॥ |
kal kalaes mittehi bhram naasehi man chindhiaa fal paaeeai || |
Our pains and troubles shall be eradicated, and our doubts shall be dispelled; we will receive the fruits of our minds' desires. |

ਸੂਖ ਦੂਖ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਜੋਨਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਲਿਖਿਓ ਲੇਖ ॥੧॥ |
sookh dhookh mukath jon naanak likhiou laekh ||1|| |
Pleasure and pain, liberation and reincarnation, O Nanak, come according to one's pre-ordained destiny. ||1|| |

ਖੇਦੁ ਨ ਦੂਖੁ ਨ ਡਾਨੁ ਤਿਹ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੀ ॥ |
khaedh n dhookh n ddaan thih jaa ko nadhar karee || |
Those who are blessed with the Lord's Glance of Grace suffer neither torture, nor pain, nor punishment. |

ਝੂਰਤ ਝੂਰਤ ਸਾਕਤ ਮੂਆ ॥ |
jhoorath jhoorath saakath mooaa || |
The faithless cynic dies in sorrow and pain; |

ਢੇਰੀ ਜਾਮੈ ਜਮਿ ਮਰੈ ਗਰਭ ਜੋਨਿ ਦੁਖ ਪਾਇ ॥ |
dtaeree jaamai jam marai garabh jon dhukh paae || |
One who has such a mound as this, dies and suffers the pain of reincarnation through the womb. |

ਦੁਖ ਕੇ ਫਾਹੇ ਕਾਟਿਆ ਨਾਨਕ ਲੀਏ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੩੦॥ |
dhukh kae faahae kaattiaa naanak leeeae samaae ||30|| |
God has cut away the noose of my pain; O Nanak, He has merged me into Himself. ||30|| |

ਦਰਦ ਨਿਵਾਰਹਿ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਆਪੇ ॥ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇ ਤੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਧ੍ਰਾਪੇ ॥੩੪॥ |
dharadh nivaarehi jaa kae aapae || naanak thae thae guramukh dhhraapae ||34|| |
He Himself removes the pains of the Gurmukh; O Nanak, he is fulfilled. ||34|| |

ਦੁਖ ਸੁਖ ਉਆ ਕੈ ਸਮਤ ਬੀਚਾਰਾ ॥ |
dhukh sukh ouaa kai samath beechaaraa || |
They look upon pleasure and pain as the same. |
 |
ਦੂਖ ਦਰਦ ਤਿਹ ਮਿਟਹਿ ਖਿਨਾਹੂ ॥ |
dhookh dharadh thih mittehi khinaahoo || |
is cured of his pain and sorrow in an instant. |
 |
ਹੋਵਤ ਆਏ ਸਦ ਸਦੀਵ ਦੁਖ ਭੰਜਨ ਗੁਰ ਗਿਆਨ ॥ |
hovath aaeae sadh sadheev dhukh bhanjan gur giaan || |
Forever and ever, the Guru's wisdom has been the Destroyer of pain. |

ਹਤੇ ਦੂਖ ਜਨਮਹ ਮਰਨ ਸੰਤਸੰਗ ਪਰਤਾਪ ॥ |
hathae dhookh janameh maran santhasang parathaap || |
The pain of birth and death is removed, by the power of the Society of the Saints. |

ਖੇਲਤ ਖੇਲਤ ਆਇਓ ਅਨਿਕ ਜੋਨਿ ਦੁਖ ਪਾਇ ॥ |
khaelath khaelath aaeiou anik jon dhukh paae || |
Playing, playing, I have been reincarnated countless times, but this has only brought pain. |

ਹੇ ਪੂਰਨ ਹੇ ਸਰਬ ਮੈ ਦੁਖ ਭੰਜਨ ਗੁਣਤਾਸ ॥ |
hae pooran hae sarab mai dhukh bhanjan gunathaas || |
O Perfect, All-pervading Lord, Destroyer of pain, Treasure of virtue: |

ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੈ ਸਿਮਰਨਿ ਦੂਖੁ ਜਮੁ ਨਸੈ ॥ |
prabh kai simaran dhookh jam nasai || |
Remembering God, the pain of death is dispelled. |

ਦੀਨ ਦਰਦ ਦੁਖ ਭੰਜਨਾ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਨਾਥ ਅਨਾਥ ॥ |
dheen dharadh dhukh bhanjanaa ghatt ghatt naathh anaathh || |
O Destroyer of the pains and the suffering of the poor, O Master of each and every heart, O Masterless One: |

ਨਾਮੁ ਸੁਨਤ ਦਰਦ ਦੁਖ ਲਥਾ ॥ |
naam sunath dharadh dhukh lathhaa || |
Hearing the Naam, pain and sorrow are removed. |
 |
ਸੂਖ ਦੂਖ ਜਨ ਸਮ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟੇਤਾ ॥ |
sookh dhookh jan sam dhrisattaethaa || |
One who looks upon pleasure and pain as one and the same, |
 |
ਏਕ ਆਸ ਹਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਰਖਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੂਖੁ ਭਰਮੁ ਭਉ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥ |
eaek aas har man rakhahu naanak dhookh bharam bho jaae ||1|| |
Enshrine in your heart, your hopes in the One Lord. O Nanak, your pain, doubt and fear shall depart. ||1|| |

ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਸਹਿ ਨ ਲਾਗਹਿ ਦੂਖ ॥੪॥ |
naanak thisehi n laagehi dhookh ||4|| |
O Nanak, shall not suffer pain. ||4|| |

ਦੂਖ ਸੂਖ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦੇਵਨਹਾਰੁ ॥ |
dhookh sookh prabh dhaevanehaar || |
God is the Giver of pain and pleasure. |

ਓਇ ਦਾਤੇ ਦੁਖ ਕਾਟਨਹਾਰ ॥ |
oue dhaathae dhukh kaattanehaar || |
They are the givers, the dispellers of pain. |
 |
ਨਾਨਕ ਭਰਮ ਮੋਹ ਦੁਖ ਤਹ ਤੇ ਨਾਸੇ ॥੬॥ |
naanak bharam moh dhukh theh thae naasae ||6|| |
O Nanak, doubt, emotional attachment and pain are erased. ||6|| |

ਅਨਦੁ ਭਇਆ ਦੁਖ ਨਾਠੇ ਭਾਈ ॥ |
anadh bhaeiaa dhukh naathae bhaaee || |
Happiness ensues and pain departs, O Siblings of Destiny. |

ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੂਖੁ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਗਇਆ ॥ |
janam maran dhookh bhram gaeiaa || |
The pains of birth and death, and doubt are gone. |
 |
ਦੂਖ ਸੂਖ ਮਾਨ ਅਪਮਾਨ ॥ |
dhookh sookh maan apamaan || |
pain and pleasure, honor and dishonor |
 |
ਦੂਖੁ ਦਰਦੁ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਭਉ ਜਾਇ ॥ |
dhookh dharadh man thae bho jaae || |
Sorrow, pain and fear shall depart from your mind. |
 |
ਜਿਸੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਰਾਖੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਦੂਖ ॥ |
jis prabh raakhai this naahee dhookh || |
One who is protected by God never suffers in pain. |
 |
ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਤਾ ਕਾ ਦੂਖੁ ਨਿਵਾਰੈ ॥ |
janam maran thaa kaa dhookh nivaarai || |
The pains of birth and death are removed. |
 |
ਹਰਖ ਸੋਗ ਸਹਸਾ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ਹਉ ਹਉ ਕਰਤ ਬਿਹਾਇ ॥ |
harakh sog sehasaa sansaar ho ho karath bihaae || |
In pleasure and pain and worldly cynicism, they pass their lives acting in ego. |

ਆਧਿ ਬਿਆਧਿ ਉਪਾਧਿ ਰਸ ਕਬਹੁ ਨ ਤੂਟੈ ਤਾਪ ॥ |
aadhh biaadhh oupaadhh ras kabahu n thoottai thaap || |
Their minds and bodies are distracted by pleasure and pain, and their fever never departs. |

ਨਰਕ ਨਿਵਾਰੈ ਦੁਖ ਹਰੈ ਤੂਟਹਿ ਅਨਿਕ ਕਲੇਸ ॥ |
narak nivaarai dhukh harai thoottehi anik kalaes || |
One is saved from hell, suffering is destroyed, countless pains depart, |
