| ਮੋਹ ਬਿਆਪੇ ਕਿਛੁ ਸੂਝੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੬॥ |
| moh biaapae kishh soojhai naahee gur sabadhee har paavaniaa ||6|| |
| They are engrossed in emotional attachment; they do not understand anything at all. Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, the Lord is found. ||6|| |

| gur sabadhee sehasaa dhookh chukaaeae || |
| Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, skepticism and suffering are dispelled. |

| ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਿਬੇਕੁ ਸਦਾ ਆਪੁ ਵੀਚਾਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੩॥ |
| anthar bibaek sadhaa aap veechaarae gur sabadhee gun gaavaniaa ||3|| |
| Those who have discriminating minds, continually examine their own selves. Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, they sing the Lord's Glorious Praises. ||3|| |

| ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਹਰਿ ਸਰਿ ਵਾਸਾ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥ |
| ahinis preeth sabadh saachai har sar vaasaa paavaniaa ||5|| |
| Day and night, they are in love with the True Word of the Shabad. They obtain their home in the Ocean of the Lord. ||5|| |
|
| ਜੀਵਤੁ ਮਰੈ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਮੈਲੁ ਚੁਕਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੬॥ |
| jeevath marai gur sabadh beechaarai houmai mail chukaavaniaa ||6|| |
| One who dies while yet alive, and contemplates the Word of the Guru's Shabad, is rid of this filth of ego. ||6|| |

| ਪੂਰੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਸੁਣਾਇਆ ॥ |
| poorai sathigur sabadh sunaaeiaa || |
| when one listens to the Shabad, the Word of the Perfect True Guru. |

| ਪਿਰ ਕੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਰਹੈ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੀ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਿੰਗਾਰੁ ਬਣਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥ |
| pir kai sehaj rehai rang raathee sabadh singaar banaavaniaa ||5|| |
| She remains intuitively attuned to the Love of her Beloved; she makes the Word of His Shabad her decoration. ||5|| |
|
| ਦੂਜਾ ਭਾਉ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਜਲਾਇਆ ॥ |
| dhoojaa bhaao gur sabadh jalaaeiaa || |
| through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, they burn their love of duality. |
|
| ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਸਬਦੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥ |
| poorae gur kai sabadh dhhiaaeeai sabadh saev sukh paavaniaa ||5|| |
| Through the Shabad, the Word of the Perfect Guru, we meditate on the Lord. Serving the Shabad, peace is found. ||5|| |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਭਉ ਭੰਜਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੮॥੧॥੩੪॥ |
| naanak naam milai bho bhanjan gur sabadhee sukh paavaniaa ||8||1||34|| |
| O Nanak, they receive the Naam, the Name of the Lord, the Destroyer of fear; through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, they find peace. ||8||1||34|| |

| ਅਗਮੁ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਸਭ ਤੇ ਊਚਾ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਲਖਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ |
| agam agochar sabh thae oochaa gur kai sabadh lakhaavaniaa ||1|| |
| The Inaccessible and Incomprehensible Lord is the highest of all. Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, He is known. ||1|| |

| ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਿਞਾਪੈ ॥ |
| poorae gur kai sabadh sinjaapai || |
| He is realized through the Shabad, the Word of the Perfect Guru. |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਜੀ ਮਇਆ ਕਰਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਵਾਰਣਹਾਰੁ ॥ |
| naanak har jee maeiaa kar sabadh savaaranehaar || |
| O Nanak, when the Dear Lord shows kindness, He adorns His bride with the Word of His Shabad. |

| ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਆਰਾਧੀਐ ਜਪੀਐ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਮੰਤੁ ॥ |
| gur sabadhee aaraadhheeai japeeai niramal manth || |
| Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, worship and adore Him, and chant His Pure Mantra. |

| ਨਾ ਹਉ ਨਾ ਮੈ ਨਾ ਹਉ ਹੋਵਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਬਦੁ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥੧॥ |
| naa ho naa mai naa ho hovaa naanak sabadh veechaar ||1|| |
| I was not, I am not, and I will never be anything at all! O Nanak, I dwell only on the Word of the Shabad. ||1|| |
|
| ਸਚਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਸਚੁ ਮਨਿ ਘਰ ਹੀ ਮਾਹਿ ਉਦਾਸਾ ॥ |
| sachaa sabadh sach man ghar hee maahi oudhaasaa || |
| The True Word of the Shabad abides in their true minds; within the home of their own inner beings, they remain detached. |
|
| ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਚਾ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਸਾਚ ਸਬਦਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥੨॥ |
| naanak saachaa man vasai saach sabadh har naam samaavai ||2|| |
| O Nanak, the True One shall come to dwell in your mind. Through the True Word of the Shabad, you shall be absorbed in the Name of the Lord. ||2|| |

| ਤਬਲਬਾਜ ਬੀਚਾਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਣਾਇਆ ॥ |
| thabalabaaj beechaar sabadh sunaaeiaa || |
| The Drummer, the Guru, has announced the Lord's meditation, through the Word of the Shabad. |
|
| ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਖੋਟਿਅਹੁ ਖਰੇ ਕਰੇ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਵਾਰਣਹਾਰੁ ॥ |
| sathigur khottiahu kharae karae sabadh savaaranehaar || |
| The True Guru converts the counterfeit into genuine; through the Word of the Shabad, He embellishes and exalts us. |
|
| ਸਚੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਦਰਬਾਰੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਨੀਸਾਣਿਆ ॥ |
| sach thaeraa dharabaar sabadh neesaaniaa || |
| True is Your Court. It is proclaimed and revealed through the Word of the Shabad. |

| ਸਚਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਣਿਆ ॥ |
| sachaa sabadh veechaar sach samaaniaa || |
| Meditating deeply on the True Word of the Shabad, I have merged into the Truth. |
|
| ਸਚਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਸਾਲਾਹਿ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਈਐ ॥ |
| sachaa sabadh saalaahi sach samaaeeai || |
| Praising the True Word of the Shabad, they merge with the True Lord. |
|
| ਓਨਾ ਖਸਮੈ ਕੈ ਦਰਿ ਮੁਖ ਉਜਲੇ ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਹਾਇਆ ॥੧੬॥ |
| ounaa khasamai kai dhar mukh oujalae sachai sabadh suhaaeiaa ||16|| |
| In the Court of their Lord and Master, their faces are radiant; they are embellished and exalted with the True Word of the Shabad. ||16|| |
|
| ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਨੀਸਾਣਿ ਠਾਕ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ॥ |
| sachai sabadh neesaan thaak n paaeeai || |
| No one blocks the way of those who are blessed with the Banner of the True Word of the Shabad. |
|
| ਤਨ ਮਹਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਅਗਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਬੁਝਾਈਐ ॥੧੯॥ |
| than mehi thrisanaa ag sabadh bujhaaeeai ||19|| |
| Within the body is the fire of desire; through the Word of the Shabad, it is quenched. ||19|| |
|
| ਸਚਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਅਲਖੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਹਾਵਣਾ ॥ |
| sachaa purakh alakh sabadh suhaavanaa || |
| The True Lord is Unknowable; through the Word of His Shabad, we are embellished. |
|
| ਮਹਲਾ ਮੰਝਿ ਨਿਵਾਸੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਵਾਰੀਆ ॥ |
| mehalaa manjh nivaas sabadh savaareeaa || |
| In the Mansion of the Lord's Presence, she has made her home; she is adorned with the Word of His Shabad. |
|
| ਸਬਦਿ ਸਵਾਰੀਆਸੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੀਵਿਆ ॥੨੨॥ |
| sabadh savaareeaas anmrith peeviaa ||22|| |
| But she who is adorned with the Word of His Shabad, drinks in the Amrit of His Nectar. ||22|| |
|
| ਸਚਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਿ ਕਾਲੁ ਵਿਧਉਸਿਆ ॥ |
| sachaa sabadh beechaar kaal vidhhousiaa || |
| Reflecting on the True Word of the Shabad, death is overcome. |
|
| ਢਾਢੀ ਕਥੇ ਅਕਥੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਵਾਰਿਆ ॥ |
| dtaadtee kathhae akathh sabadh savaariaa || |
| Speaking the Unspoken Speech of the Lord, one is adorned with the Word of His Shabad. |
|
| ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਲਾਹਿ ਸੁਖੀਏ ਸਚ ਵਾਲਿਆ ॥ |
| sachai sabadh salaahi sukheeeae sach vaaliaa || |
| Those who praise the True Word of the Shabad, abide in the peace of Truth. |
|
| ਸਚੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਫੁਰਮਾਨੁ ਸਬਦੇ ਸੋਹਿਆ ॥ |
| sach thaeraa furamaan sabadhae sohiaa || |
| Your Command is True; we are adorned with the Word of Your Shabad. |
|
| ਢਾਢੀ ਕਰੇ ਪਸਾਉ ਸਬਦੁ ਵਜਾਇਆ ॥ |
| dtaadtee karae pasaao sabadh vajaaeiaa || |
| His minstrel spreads His Glory, singing and vibrating the Word of His Shabad. |
|
| ਭੈ ਭਉ ਘੜੀਐ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਵਾਰਿ ॥ |
| bhai bho gharreeai sabadh savaar || |
| Through this Fear of God, we are adorned with the Word of the Shabad. |
|
| ਸਬਦਿ ਰਤੇ ਮੀਠੇ ਰਸ ਈਖ ॥੩॥ |
| sabadh rathae meethae ras eekh ||3|| |
| Attuned to the Word of the Shabad, one becomes sweet, like the juice of the sugar cane. ||3|| |
|
| ਸਬਦੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਿ ਛੁਟੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਇ ॥੨॥ |
| sabadh beechaar shhuttai har naae ||2|| |
| Contemplating the Word of the Shabad, we are emancipated through the Name of the Lord. ||2|| |
|
| ਸਬਦਿ ਮਰੈ ਫਿਰਿ ਮਰਣੁ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥ |
| sabadh marai fir maran n hoe || |
| One who dies in the Word of the Shabad, shall never again have to die. |
|
| ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਨਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| poorae gur kai sabadh pashhaanaa ||1|| rehaao || |
| Through the Shabad, the Word of the Perfect Guru, I recognize God. ||1||Pause|| |
|
| ਏਕੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਦੂਜਾ ਹੋਰੁ ਨਾਸਤਿ ਕੰਦ ਮੂਲਿ ਮਨੁ ਲਾਵਸਿਤਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| eaek sabadh dhoojaa hor naasath kandh mool man laavasithaa ||1|| rehaao || |
| There is only the One Word of the Shabad; everything else shall pass away. Let this be the fruits and roots of your mind's diet. ||1||Pause|| |
|
| ਕੋਕਿਲ ਹੋਵਾ ਅੰਬਿ ਬਸਾ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਬਦ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥ |
| kokil hovaa anb basaa sehaj sabadh beechaar || |
| If I were to become a cuckoo, living in a mango tree, I would still contemplate the Word of the Shabad. |

| ਹੁਕਮੇ ਮੇਲੇ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਣੈ ॥੧॥ |
| hukamae maelae sabadh pashhaanai ||1|| |
| By the Hukam of His Command, He unites those who recognize the Word of the Shabad. ||1|| |
|
| ਊਤਮ ਕਰਣੀ ਸਬਦ ਬੀਚਾਰ ॥੩॥ |
| ootham karanee sabadh beechaar ||3|| |
| The ultimate action is to contemplate the Word of the Shabad. ||3|| |
|
| ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਾ ਹੋਇ ॥੨॥ |
| gur thae sabadh milaavaa hoe ||2|| |
| Through the Guru, we are absorbed in the Word of the Shabad. ||2|| |
|
| ਸਚੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਜੁਗ ਚਾਰੇ ਜਾਪੈ ॥ |
| sachee baanee jug chaarae jaapai || |
| The True Bani of the Word is known throughout the four ages. |
|
| ਸਾਚੇ ਰਾਤੀ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੁ ਵੀਚਾਰ ॥ |
| saachae raathee gur sabadh veechaar || |
| Imbued with Truth, one contemplates the Word of the Guru's Shabad, |
|
| ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਮਨਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਨਿਵਾਸੁ ॥ |
| gur sabadhee man naam nivaas || |
| Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, the Naam abides within the mind. |
|
| ਸਚੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦ ਪਿਆਰਿ ॥ |
| sachee bhagath gur sabadh piaar || |
| True devotional worship consists of love for the Word of the Guru's Shabad. |
|
| ਸਬਦਿ ਮਰੈ ਭਗਤਿ ਪਾਏ ਜਨੁ ਸੋਇ ॥੩॥ |
| sabadh marai bhagath paaeae jan soe ||3|| |
| But one who dies in the Word of the Shabad, obtains devotional worship. ||3|| |

| ਮਨੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਰੈ ਬੂਝੈ ਜਨੁ ਸੋਇ ॥੧॥ |
| man sabadh marai boojhai jan soe ||1|| |
| One whose mind dies in the Word of the Shabad, understands Him. ||1|| |
|
| ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਤਾ ॥ |
| houmai maar gur sabadh pashhaathaa || |
| They subdue egotism, and realize the Word of the Guru's Shabad. |
