| ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਥਿਰੁ ਕੋ ਨਹੀ ਬੂਝੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਈ ॥੫॥ |

| Without the Word of the Shabad, nothing shall endure. Through understanding, peace is obtained. ||5|| |

| Without the Word of the Guru's Shabad, no one is emancipated. See this, and reflect upon it. |

| ਜੁਗ ਚਾਰੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਉਤਮੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਿ ॥ |
| jug chaarae naam outham sabadh beechaar || |
| Throughout the four ages, the Naam is the ultimate; reflect upon the Word of the Shabad. |

| ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਚਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥੨॥ |
| gur kai sabadh sach liv laae ||2|| |
| Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, lovingly attune yourself to the True Lord. ||2|| |

| ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਪੰਚ ਸੰਘਾਰੈ ॥ |
| gur kai sabadh panch sanghaarai || |
| Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, they conquer the five thieves. |
|
| ਹਉਮੈ ਦੂਜਾ ਸਬਦਿ ਜਲਾਵੈ ॥ |
| houmai dhoojaa sabadh jalaavai || |
| Through the Word of the Shabad, they burn away their ego and duality. |
|
| ਤਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪਾਏ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੁ ਵਖਾਣੈ ॥੧॥ |
| thaa prabh paaeae gur sabadh vakhaanai ||1|| |
| And yet, if he chants the Word of the Guru's Shabad, he finds God. ||1|| |

| ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਰੀਧੇ ॥ |
| gur kai sabadh anthar sehaj reedhhae || |
| Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, they find intuitive peace and poise deep within. |

| ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਸਬਦਿ ਜਲਾਏ ॥ |
| houmai maaeiaa sabadh jalaaeae || |
| Ego and Maya are burned away by the Word of the Shabad. |
|
| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬਾਣੀ ਮੀਠੀ ਲਾਗੀ ॥ |
| guramukh baanee meethee laagee || |
| To the Gurmukhs, the Word of God's Bani seems so sweet. |
|
| ਸਬਦਿ ਮਨੁ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥ |
| sabadh man rangiaa liv laae || |
| The mind is attuned to the Word of the Shabad; it is lovingly attuned to the Lord. |
|
| ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗੁ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਉਤਰੈ ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਸਮਾਲਿ ॥੯॥ |
| har rang kadhae n outharai gur saevaa sabadh samaal ||9|| |
| The color of the Lord's Love never fades away; serve the Guru, and dwell upon the Word of the Shabad. ||9|| |

| ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਰਿਦ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਧਾਰੈ ॥ |

| Those who implant the Word of the Guru's Shabad within their hearts |

| ਕਵਨੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਜਿਤੁ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਹਰੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |

| What is that Word by which the dirt of the mind is removed? ||1||Pause|| |

| ਕੋਟਿ ਪੁੰਨ ਸੁਣਿ ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਬਾਣੀ ॥ |
| kott punn sun har kee baanee || |
| Hearing the Word of the Lord's Bani is equal to giving millions in alms. |

| ਗੁਰ ਪੁਛਿ ਲਿਖਉਗੀ ਜੀਉ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਨੇਹਾ ॥ |
| gur pushh likhougee jeeo sabadh sanaehaa || |
| I will ask the Guru, and write His Word as my love-note. |

| ਸਬਦੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਗੁਰਿ ਦਿਖਾਇਆ ਮਨਮੁਖੀ ਪਛੁਤਾਣੀਆ ॥ |
| sabadh saachaa gur dhikhaaeiaa manamukhee pashhuthaaneeaa || |
| The Guru has shown me the True Word of the Shabad. The self-willed manmukhs will regret and repent. |
|
| ਰਸਿ ਪ੍ਰੇਮਿ ਮਿਲੀ ਜੀਉ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਹਾਵੈ ॥ |
| ras praem milee jeeo sabadh suhaavai || |
| Tasting His Love, she meets Him, through the Beautiful Word of His Shabad. |

| ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਮੇਲੀ ਤਾ ਪਿਰਿ ਰਾਵੀ ਬਿਗਸੀ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬਾਣੀ ॥ |
| sathigur maelee thaa pir raavee bigasee anmrith baanee || |
| Meeting the True Guru, she is ravished and enjoyed by her Husband Lord; she blossoms forth with the Ambrosial Word of His Bani. |
|
| ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਮੁਠੀ ਜੀਉ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦ ਕਰਾਰੇ ॥ |
| dhoojai bhaae muthee jeeo bin gur sabadh karaarae || |
| She is cheated by the love of duality, without the Word of the Guru's Shabad. |
|
| ਕਾਮਣਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੀ ਸਹਜੇ ਮਾਤੀ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਵੀਚਾਰੇ ॥ |
| kaaman rang raathee sehajae maathee gur kai sabadh veechaarae || |
| That wife who is intuitively imbued with the color of His Love, contemplates the Word of the Guru's Shabad. |
|
| ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੈ ਮੇਲਾ ਤਾ ਪਿਰੁ ਰਾਵੀ ਲਾਹਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੰਸਾਰੇ ॥ |
| gur sabadhai maelaa thaa pir raavee laahaa naam sansaarae || |
| Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, the soul-bride meets her Husband Lord, who ravishes and enjoys her. The Naam, the Name of the Lord, is the only profit in this world. |

| ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੀ ਜੀਉ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੁ ਵੀਚਾਰੇ ॥ |
| ahinis rang raathee jeeo gur sabadh veechaarae || |
| Imbued with His Love night and day, she contemplates the Word of the Guru's Shabad. |

| ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੁ ਸੇਵੇ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰੇ ॥ |
| gur sabadh saevae sach samaavai vichahu houmai maarae || |
| One who serves the Word of the Guru's Shabad is absorbed in the True Lord; she eradicates egotism from within. |
|
| ਕਾਮਣਿ ਬਿਨਉ ਕਰੇ ਜੀਉ ਸਚਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੀਗਾਰੇ ॥ |
| kaaman bino karae jeeo sach sabadh seegaarae || |
| The soul-bride offers her prayers to You, to adorn her with the True Word of Your Shabad. |
|
| ਸਚਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੀਗਾਰੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕਾਰਜ ਸਵਾਰੇ ॥ |
| sach sabadh seegaarae houmai maarae guramukh kaaraj savaarae || |
| Adorned with the True Word of Your Shabad, she conquers her ego, and as Gurmukh, her affairs are resolved. |

| ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਕਰਿ ਬੋਹਿਥਾ ਜੀਉ ਸਬਦੁ ਖੇਵਟੁ ਵਿਚਿ ਪਾਇ ॥ |
| raam naam kar bohithhaa jeeo sabadh khaevatt vich paae || |
| Make the Lord's Name your boat, and install the Word of the Shabad as the boatman. |
|
| ਆਪਿ ਕਰਾਏ ਕਰੇ ਆਪਿ ਜੀਉ ਆਪੇ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਵਾਰੇ ॥ |
| aap karaaeae karae aap jeeo aapae sabadh savaarae || |
| He Himself acts, and inspires others to act; He Himself embellishes us with the Word of His Shabad. |
|
| ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਪਾਏ ਜਾ ਹਰਿ ਭਾਏ ਰਸਨਾ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਹਾਏ ॥ |
| sadhaa har ras paaeae jaa har bhaaeae rasanaa sabadh suhaaeae || |
| You shall obtain the everlasting essence of the Lord when it pleases the Lord; your tongue shall be adorned with the Word of His Shabad. |
|
| ਨਾਨਕ ਮਾਇਆ ਕਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਤਦੇ ਚੂਕੈ ਜਾ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਏ ॥੩॥ |
| naanak maaeiaa kaa dhukh thadhae chookai jaa gur sabadhee chith laaeae ||3|| |
| O Nanak, the pain of Maya is taken away by focusing one's consciousness on the Word of the Guru's Shabad. ||3|| |

| ਓਅੰ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕੀਓ ਅਕਾਰਾ ॥ |
| ouan guramukh keeou akaaraa || |
| ONG: The One Universal Creator created the Creation through the Word of the Primal Guru. |

| ਉਆ ਡੇਰਾ ਕਾ ਸੰਜਮੋ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਨੁ ॥ |
| ouaa ddaeraa kaa sanjamo gur kai sabadh pashhaan || |
| You shall come to realize the way to that place, through the Word of the Guru's Shabad. |
|
| ਰਹਤ ਰਹਤ ਰਹਿ ਜਾਹਿ ਬਿਕਾਰਾ ॥ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥ |
| rehath rehath rehi jaahi bikaaraa || gur poorae kai sabadh apaaraa || |
| Your evil ways shall be slowly and steadily blotted out, by the Shabad, the Incomparable Word of the Perfect Guru. |
|
| ਖੇਦ ਮਿਟੇ ਸਾਧੂ ਮਿਲਤ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬਚਨ ਸਮਾਇ ॥ |
| khaedh mittae saadhhoo milath sathigur bachan samaae || |
| Troubles are removed, when one meets with the Holy; immerse yourself in the Word of the True Guru. |

| ਏਕ ਅਖਰੁ ਹਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਬਸਤ ਨਾਨਕ ਹੋਤ ਨਿਹਾਲ ॥੧॥ |
| eaek akhar har man basath naanak hoth nihaal ||1|| |
| One whose mind is filled with the One Word of the Lord, O Nanak, becomes totally blissful. ||1|| |

| ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿਮਾਨ ਅਖਰ ਹੈ ਜੇਤਾ ॥ |
| dhrisattimaan akhar hai jaethaa || |
| In the visible universe, the Word is seen. |
|
| ਕੀਨੇ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਇਕ ਆਖ੍ਯ੍ਯਰ ॥ |
| keenae raam naam eik aakhyar || |
| were created from the One Word of the Name of the Lord. |
|
| ਨਿਰਮਲ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਤੇਰੀ ਬਾਣੀ ॥ |
| niramal niramal niramal thaeree baanee || |
| Pure, Pure, Pure is the Word of Your Bani, |
|
| ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਜਪਿ ਭਏ ਨਿਹਾਲ ॥ |
| gur kaa sabadh jap bheae nihaal || |
| Chanting the Word of the Guru's Shabad, they become ecstatic. |
|
| ਤਿਉ ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਮਨਹਿ ਅਸਥੰਮਨੁ ॥ |
| thio gur kaa sabadh manehi asathhanman || |
| so does the Guru's Word support the mind. |
|
| ਸਬਦੁ ਸਤਿ ਸਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਬਕਤਾ ॥ |
| sabadh sath sath prabh bakathaa || |
| The Word of His Shabad is True, and True are those who speak of God. |
|
| ਬਾਣੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਬੋਲੈ ॥ |
| baanee prabh kee sabh ko bolai || |
| The Bani of God's Word is spoken by everyone. |
|
| ਇਹ ਫਲ ਤਿਸੁ ਜਨ ਕੈ ਮੁਖਿ ਭਨੇ ॥ਗੁਰ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮ ਬਚਨ ਮਨਿ ਸੁਨੇ ॥੬॥ |
| eih fal this jan kai mukh bhanae || gur naanak naam bachan man sunae ||6|| |
| - these blessings come to one who, through Guru Nanak, chants the Naam with his mouth, and hears the Word with his ears. ||6|| |
|
| ਲਾਹਾ ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਖਟਿਆ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥ |
| laahaa har dhhan khattiaa guramukh sabadh veechaar || |
| The Gurmukh earns the profit of the wealth of the Lord's Name, contemplating the Word of the Shabad. |
|
| ਤੂ ਕਰਹਿ ਸੁ ਸਚੇ ਭਲਾ ਹੈ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਬੁਝਾਹੀ ॥ |
| thoo karehi s sachae bhalaa hai gur sabadh bujhaahee || |
| Whatever You do is good, O True Lord; this understanding is obtained through the Word of the Guru's Shabad. |

| ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਤਿ ਸਰੂਪੁ ਹੈ ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਬਣੀਐ ॥ |
| sathigur kee baanee sath saroop hai gurabaanee baneeai || |
| The Word of the True Guru's Bani is the embodiment of Truth; through Gurbani, one becomes perfect. |
|
| ਤਾ ਅਪਿਉ ਪੀਵੈ ਸਬਦੁ ਗੁਰ ਕੇਰਾ ਸਭੁ ਕਾੜਾ ਅੰਦੇਸਾ ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਵੈ ॥ |
| thaa apio peevai sabadh gur kaeraa sabh kaarraa andhaesaa bharam chukaavai || |
| Then , they drink in the Nectar, the Word of the Guru's Shabad; all burning, anxiety, and doubts are eliminated. |
|
| ਏਹੁ ਅਖਰੁ ਤਿਨਿ ਆਖਿਆ ਜਿਨਿ ਜਗਤੁ ਸਭੁ ਉਪਾਇਆ ॥੧॥ |
| eaehu akhar thin aakhiaa jin jagath sabh oupaaeiaa ||1|| |
| This Word is spoken by the One who created the whole universe. ||1|| |
|
| ਸੇ ਭਗਤ ਜਿਨੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਾਲਾਹਿਆ ਸਚੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਨੀਸਾਣੁ ॥ |
| sae bhagath jinee guramukh saalaahiaa sach sabadh neesaan || |
| Those who, as Gurmukh, praise You are Your devotees; they have the insignia and the banner of the Shabad, the True Word of God. |

| ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਤਿ ਸਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਜਾਣਹੁ ਗੁਰਸਿਖਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਕਰਤਾ ਆਪਿ ਮੁਹਹੁ ਕਢਾਏ ॥ |
| sathigur kee baanee sath sath kar jaanahu gurasikhahu har karathaa aap muhahu kadtaaeae || |
| O GurSikhs, know that the Bani, the Word of the True Guru, is true, absolutely true. The Creator Lord Himself causes the Guru to chant it. |
