ਏਹਾ ਕਾਇਆ ਰੋਗਿ ਭਰੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਹਉਮੈ ਰੋਗੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥ |
eaehaa kaaeiaa rog bharee bin sabadhai dhukh houmai rog n jaae || |
This body is filled with disease; without the Word of the Shabad, the pain of the disease of ego does not depart. |

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਵਿਸਰਿਆ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥੨॥ |
naanak naam dhhiaaeiaa sukhadhaathaa dhukh visariaa sehaj subhaae ||2|| |
O Nanak, meditating on the Naam, the Name of the Peace-Giving Lord, his pains are automatically forgotten. ||2|| |

ਨਾਨਕ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਜੀਵਦਿਆ ਮੁਏ ਹਰਿ ਵਿਸਰਿਆ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇ ॥੨॥ |
naanak manamukh jeevadhiaa mueae har visariaa dhukh paae ||2|| |
O Nanak, the self-willed manmukhs are in a living death; forgetting the Lord, they suffer in pain. ||2|| |

ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਤਾ ਉਬਰਹਿ ਨਾਹਿ ਤ ਬਧੇ ਦੁਖ ਸਹਾਹਿ ॥੧॥ |
naanak guramukh hovehi thaa oubarehi naahi th badhhae dhukh sehaahi ||1|| |
O Nanak, if he becomes Gurmukh, then he shall be saved; otherwise, he is held in bondage, and suffers in pain. ||1|| |

ਏ ਮਨ ਐਸਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਖੋਜਿ ਲਹੁ ਜਿਤੁ ਸੇਵਿਐ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਦੁਖੁ ਜਾਇ ॥ |
eae man aisaa sathigur khoj lahu jith saeviai janam maran dhukh jaae || |
O mind, search for such a True Guru, by serving whom the pains of birth and death are dispelled. |

ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਅਤਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਲਗਾ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮੈ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ॥ |
dhoojai bhaae ath dhukh lagaa mar janmai aavai jaae || |
In love with duality, they suffer terrible pain; they die, and are reincarnated, and continue coming and going. |

ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਜੇਤੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਰੇ ਦੁਖੁ ਲਗੈ ਤਨਿ ਧਾਇ ॥ |
dhoojai bhaae jaethae karam karae dhukh lagai than dhhaae || |
But those actions which are performed in the love of duality, cause only pain to the body. |

ਮਨਹਠਿ ਭੇਖ ਕਰਿ ਭਰਮਦੇ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ॥ |
manehath bhaekh kar bharamadhae dhukh paaeiaa dhoojai bhaae || |
Through their stubborn-mindedness, and by wearing their disguises, they are deluded; they suffer in pain from the love of duality. |

ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਲਾਗਾ ਜਲਤਾ ਕਰੇ ਪੁਕਾਰ ॥ |
dhoojai bhaae bahuth dhukh laagaa jalathaa karae pukaar || |
In love with duality, he endures terrible suffering, and burning, he cries out in pain. |

ਜਿਨ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਵੀਸਰੈ ਵਡੜੀ ਵੇਦਨ ਤਿਨਾਹ ॥੧॥ |
jin maeraa saahib veesarai vaddarree vaedhan thinaah ||1|| |
Those who forget my Lord and Master shall suffer in terrible pain. ||1|| |

ਸੁਖ ਦੁਖ ਦਾਤਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਿਫਤਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੪॥੭॥ |
sukh dhukh dhaathaa gur milai kahu naanak sifath samaae ||4||7|| |
One who meets with the Guru, the Giver of pleasure and pain, says Nanak, is absorbed in the Lord's Praise. ||4||7|| |

ਬਾਹਰਿ ਢੂਢਤ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਘਰਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਘਟ ਮਾਹੀ ਜੀਉ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
baahar dtoodtath bahuth dhukh paavehi ghar anmrith ghatt maahee jeeo || rehaao || |
By searching around on the outside, you shall only suffer great pain; the Ambrosial Nectar is found within the home of your own being. ||Pause|| |

ਆਵਤ ਕਉ ਹਰਖ ਜਾਤ ਕਉ ਰੋਵਹਿ ਇਹੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਨਾਲੇ ਲਾਗਾ ॥ |
aavath ko harakh jaath ko rovehi eihu dhukh sukh naalae laagaa || |
When things come, he is pleased, but when they go, he weeps and wails; this pain and pleasure remains attached to him. |

ਆਪੇ ਦੁਖ ਸੁਖ ਭੋਗਿ ਭੋਗਾਵੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੋ ਅਨਰਾਗਾ ॥੨॥ |
aapae dhukh sukh bhog bhogaavai guramukh so anaraagaa ||2|| |
The Lord Himself causes him to enjoy pleasure and endure pain; the Gurmukh, however, remains unaffected. ||2|| |

ਦੇਖਿ ਅਦ੍ਰਿਸਟੁ ਰਹਉ ਬਿਸਮਾਦੀ ਦੁਖੁ ਬਿਸਰੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਈ ਜੀਉ ॥੩॥ |
dhaekh adhrisatt reho bisamaadhee dhukh bisarai sukh hoee jeeo ||3|| |
Seeing the unseen Lord, you shall be amazed and delighted; forgetting your pain, you shall be at peace. ||3|| |
|
ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਸਦਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਡੂਬਿ ਮੁਏ ਵਿਣੁ ਪਾਣੀ ॥੧॥ |
manamukh firehi sadhaa dhukh paavehi ddoob mueae vin paanee ||1|| |
The self-willed manmukhs wander around, suffering in constant pain; they drown and die, even without water. ||1|| |
|
ਹਉਮੈ ਜਗਤੁ ਦੁਖਿ ਰੋਗਿ ਵਿਆਪਿਆ ਮਰਿ ਜਨਮੈ ਰੋਵੈ ਧਾਹੀ ॥੧॥ |
houmai jagath dhukh rog viaapiaa mar janamai rovai dhhaahee ||1|| |
The world is afflicted with the painful disease of egotism; dying, only to be reborn, it cries out in pain. ||1|| |
|
ਸੰਧਿਆ ਤਰਪਣੁ ਕਰਹਿ ਗਾਇਤ੍ਰੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਬੂਝੇ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੨॥ |
sandhhiaa tharapan karehi gaaeithree bin boojhae dhukh paaeiaa ||2|| |
He says his evening prayers, and makes offerings of water, and recites his morning prayers, but without true understanding, he still suffers in pain. ||2|| |
|
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਬਹੁਤਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਲਾਗਾ ਜੁਗ ਚਾਰੇ ਭਰਮਾਈ ॥ |
bin sathigur saevae bahuthaa dhukh laagaa jug chaarae bharamaaee || |
Without serving the True Guru, he suffers in terrible pain, and throughout the four ages, he wanders aimlessly. |

ਜੰਮਣੁ ਮਰਣੁ ਸਿਰ ਊਪਰਿ ਊਭਉ ਗਰਭ ਜੋਨਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ॥੨॥ |
janman maran sir oopar oobho garabh jon dhukh paaeae ||2|| |
Birth and death hang over their heads, and being reborn from the womb, they suffer in pain. ||2|| |
|
ਅਨਿਕ ਜਨਮ ਵਿਛੁੜੇ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਕਰਮ ਕਰੈ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀ ॥ |
anik janam vishhurrae dhukh paaeiaa manamukh karam karai ahankaaree || |
Separated from the Lord for countless lifetimes, the self-willed manmukh suffers in pain, engaged in acts of egotism. |
|
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਭੂਖੇ ਦਹ ਦਿਸ ਡੋਲਹਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਈ ॥ |
manamukh bhookhae dheh dhis ddolehi bin naavai dhukh paaee || |
The self-willed manmukhs are hungry, wandering around in the ten directions; without the Name, they suffer in pain. |

ਜਰਾ ਮਰਾ ਤਾਪੁ ਸਭੁ ਨਾਠਾ ਗੁਣ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਨਿਤ ਗਾਵਹੁ ॥੩॥ |
jaraa maraa thaap sabh naathaa gun gobindh nith gaavahu ||3|| |
The pains of old age and death shall all depart, when you constantly sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord of the Universe. ||3|| |

ਊਠਤ ਬੈਠਤ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਦੂਖੁ ਦਰਦੁ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਭਾਗਾ ॥ |
oothath baithath har gun gaavai dhookh dharadh bhram bhaagaa || |
Standing up and sitting down, he sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord; his pain, sorrow and doubt are dispelled. |

ਕਲਿ ਕਲੇਸ ਮਿਟੇ ਦੁਖ ਸਗਲੇ ਕਾਟੀ ਜਮ ਕੀ ਫਾਸਾ ॥ |
kal kalaes mittae dhukh sagalae kaattee jam kee faasaa || |
All his struggles, sufferings and pains are dispelled, and the noose of death is cut away from him. |

ਬਹੁਤੁ ਜੋਨਿ ਭਰਮਤ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਹਉਮੈ ਬੰਧਨ ਕੇ ਭਾਰਾ ॥੨॥ |
bahuth jon bharamath dhukh paaeiaa houmai bandhhan kae bhaaraa ||2|| |
You wandered in pain through countless incarnations, weighed down by the chains of egotism. ||2|| |
|
ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲ ਪੂਰਨ ਦੁਖ ਭੰਜਨ ਤੁਮ ਬਿਨੁ ਓਟ ਨ ਕਾਈ ॥ |
dheen dhaeiaal pooran dhukh bhanjan thum bin outt n kaaee || |
O Perfect Lord, Merciful to the meek, Destroyer of pain, without You, I have no shelter at all. |

ਬਿਘਨ ਬਿਨਾਸਨ ਸਭਿ ਦੁਖ ਨਾਸਨ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਣੀ ਮਨੁ ਲਾਗਾ ॥ |
bighan binaasan sabh dhukh naasan gur charanee man laagaa || |
Obstacles are removed, and all pains are eliminated; my mind is attached to the Guru's feet. |

ਜਾ ਕੈ ਸਿਮਰਣਿ ਹੋਇ ਅਨੰਦਾ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਭੈ ਦੁਖੀ ॥ |
jaa kai simaran hoe anandhaa binasai janam maran bhai dhukhee || |
Meditating on Him, one is in ecstasy; the pains of birth and death and fear are removed. |

ਜਾ ਕੀ ਸਰਣਿ ਪਇਆਂ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਬਾਹੁੜਿ ਦੂਖੁ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
jaa kee saran paeiaaan sukh paaeeai baahurr dhookh n hoee ||1|| rehaao || |
Seeking His Sanctuary, one finds peace, and he shall not suffer in pain again. ||1||Pause|| |

ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕੇ ਦੂਖ ਨਿਵਾਰੈ ਸੂਕਾ ਮਨੁ ਸਾਧਾਰੈ ॥ |
janam janam kae dhookh nivaarai sookaa man saadhhaarai || |
He dispels the pains of countless incarnations, and lends support to the dry and shrivelled mind. |

ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਅਪਨਾ ਸਗਲਾ ਦੂਖੁ ਮਿਟਾਇਆ ॥ |
simar simar gur sathigur apanaa sagalaa dhookh mittaaeiaa || |
Meditating, meditating in remembrance on my Guru, the True Guru, all pains have been eradicated. |

ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਏ ਦਇਆਲਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਮਿਟਿਆ ਸਭ ਪਰਵਾਰੀ ॥੧॥ |
paarabreham prabh bheae dhaeiaalaa dhukh mittiaa sabh paravaaree ||1|| |
The Supreme Lord God has become kind and compassionate, and my whole family is now free of pain and suffering. ||1|| |

ਬਿਘਨ ਬਿਨਾਸਨ ਸਭਿ ਦੁਖ ਨਾਸਨ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇਆ ॥ |
bighan binaasan sabh dhukh naasan sathigur naam dhrirraaeiaa || |
The True Guru has implanted the Naam, the Name of the Lord, within me; it is the Eliminator of obstructions, the Destroyer of all pains. |

ਸਭਿ ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਦੁਖ ਲਾਥੇ ॥ |
sabh janam janam dhukh laathhae || |
I am rid of all the pains of countless incarnations. |

ਗਈ ਬਹੋੜੁ ਬੰਦੀ ਛੋੜੁ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੁ ਦੁਖਦਾਰੀ ॥ |
gee behorr bandhee shhorr nirankaar dhukhadhaaree || |
The Restorer of what was taken away, the Liberator from captivity; the Formless Lord, the Destroyer of pain. |

ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਏ ਅਨੰਦਾ ਦੁਖ ਕਲੇਸ ਸਭਿ ਨਾਠੇ ॥ |
simar simar prabh bheae anandhaa dhukh kalaes sabh naathae || |
Remembering, remembering God in meditation, bliss ensues, and one is rid of all suffering and pain. |

ਹਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਸਭੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਲਾਥਾ ॥ |
har simarath sabh dhukh laathhaa || |
Remembering the Lord in meditation, all pains and sorrows vanish. |
|
ਦੁਖ ਰੋਗ ਕਾ ਡੇਰਾ ਭੰਨਾ ॥ |
dhukh rog kaa ddaeraa bhannaa || |
The house of pain and disease has been demolished. |

ਸੰਤ ਅਸਥਾਨਿ ਬਸੇ ਸੁਖ ਸਹਜੇ ਸਗਲੇ ਦੂਖ ਮਿਟਾਇਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
santh asathhaan basae sukh sehajae sagalae dhookh mittaaeiaa ||1|| rehaao || |
In the home of the Saints, celestial peace is pervading; all pain and suffering is dispelled. ||1||Pause|| |

ਬਿਨਸੇ ਦੁਖ ਸਬਾਇਆ ॥੧॥ |
binasae dhukh sabaaeiaa ||1|| |
All my pains and sufferings are over. ||1|| |

ਫਿਰਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੂਖੁ ਨ ਥੀਆ ॥੨॥੨੧॥੮੫॥ |
fir naanak dhookh n thheeaa ||2||21||85|| |
and now, Nanak shall never again suffer pain. ||2||21||85|| |

ਦਰਸਨੁ ਭੇਟਤ ਹੋਤ ਅਨੰਦਾ ਦੂਖੁ ਗਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਗਾਈਐ ॥੧॥ |
dharasan bhaettath hoth anandhaa dhookh gaeiaa har gaaeeai ||1|| |
Beholding the Blessed Vision of His Darshan, bliss ensues, pain is dispelled, and one sings the Lord's Praises. ||1|| |

ਭਇਓ ਕਿਰਪਾਲੁ ਦੀਨ ਦੁਖ ਭੰਜਨੁ ਆਪੇ ਸਭ ਬਿਧਿ ਥਾਟੀ ॥ |
bhaeiou kirapaal dheen dhukh bhanjan aapae sabh bidhh thhaattee || |
Becoming merciful, the Destroyer of the pains of the poor has Himself devised all devices. |

ਸੁਖੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਰਹਤ ਸਦਾ ਨਿਰਲੇਪੀ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਕਹਤ ਗੁਸਾਈ ॥ |
sukh dhukh rehath sadhaa niralaepee jaa ko kehath gusaaee || |
He is beyond pain and pleasure, forever unattached; He is called the Lord of the world. |

ਜੋ ਨਰੁ ਦੁਖ ਮੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਨਹੀ ਮਾਨੈ ॥ |
jo nar dhukh mai dhukh nehee maanai || |
That man, who in the midst of pain, does not feel pain, |
|
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਭਉਕਿ ਮੁਏ ਬਿਲਲਾਈ ॥ |
bin sathigur saevae kinai n paaeiaa manamukh bhouk mueae bilalaaee || |
Without serving the True Guru, no one finds the Lord; the self-willed manmukhs die crying out in pain. |

ਆਵਹਿ ਜਾਵਹਿ ਠਉਰ ਨ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਦੁਖ ਮਹਿ ਦੁਖਿ ਸਮਾਈ ॥ |
aavehi jaavehi thour n paavehi dhukh mehi dhukh samaaee || |
They come and go, and find no place of rest; in pain and suffering, they perish. |

ਸਦਾ ਸਹਜੁ ਫਿਰਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਨ ਲਗਈ ਭਾਈ ਹਰਿ ਆਪਿ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥੨॥ |
sadhaa sehaj fir dhukh n lagee bhaaee har aap vasai man aae ||2|| |
You shall be in peace forever, and you shall not suffer in pain any longer, O Siblings of Destiny; the Lord Himself shall come and abide in your mind. ||2|| |

ਨਾਮ ਦਾਨੁ ਦੇਇ ਜਨ ਅਪਨੇ ਦੂਖ ਦਰਦ ਕਾ ਹੰਤਾ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
naam dhaan dhaee jan apanae dhookh dharadh kaa hanthaa || rehaao || |
He blesses His servant with the gift of the Naam; He is the Destroyer of pain and suffering. ||Pause|| |
